Im in a HSPA+ area. When my 4G signal dips below 1 bar, I get a small letter "e" showing up directly above the smallest signal bar. To me,that means I'm receiving EDGE. Am i correct in this? Am i on EDGE, or is there just no 3G icon on this phone, and I'm actually on 3G?
That has got to be EDGE. I have a 3G showing on mine.

Ive looked but cannot even find where those network settings are located. Can someone direct me there so i can see if i might have something disabled.

Do i need to be rooted for this?
I went into the phone dialer and dialed it and hit send. I receive the following message, "connection problem or invalid MMI code".
HSPA+ was called 4G for some and 3.5G for other.....on the e980 there"s no "3g" icon.....in fact the HSPA+ that you refer is 4G on this phone, when you"re in a area with real 4G...then you"ll see 4G LTE icon...it was unclear at some time if lte was 4G or rather HSPA+....

Why the 4g icon dont show in the notification bar, It only show the 3g. AOKP dindt support 4g?
And sorry for my english :/
I don't recall AOKP ever having the "4G" icon. Mine always said H or 3G. If your phone almost never says H, you're either in a bad territory or you have the older SIM card (which I do also) that won't always connect to HSPA+ connections

I downloaded skygo onto my nexus, I keep getting a message stating 3g streaming is not enabled.
I'm on full bars connectivity, data enabled, 2g unchecked, I see h and 3g on the signal, can't see what else I'm supposed to do.
Any ideas?

Is there any app or dialer code that i can use to set the mobile network type.. Ex: keep it on HSPA+ :15 or HSDPA :8? Seems like i got to keep restartin my phone alot to get my data to work at normal speed...
P.S. ive already did the *#*#4636#*#* it just goes back to WCDMA preferred

I've never had an issue with T-Mobile until the last month, and I thought maybe my Note 2 was going wonky but the Note 3 does the same thing. Basically it likes to mostly switch from LTE to EDGE or even GPRS sometimes, and it's driving me insane. If you do *#2263# in the dialer it brings up the network settings and you can force LTE/WCDMA only, but then it never drops down to the battery saving UMTS, which I want to do. There has to be a way to just plain disable EDGE/GPRS completely, or at least change the priority to where it doesn't ever go to those unless it has zero signal of either HSPA, UMTS or LTE. Any ideas?
/sadface. Bump just in case no one saw this.
WCDMA=UMTS
*#*#4636#*#*
Choose phone info
Set to WCDMA only
You won't connect to lte this way but it'll disable the fallback to edge/gprs.
Also, I'd change your apn settings to use the epc.tmobile.com apn instead of the fast.tmobile.com if
you're going to force wcdma.

Same here I'm not sure if its the carrier(sprint) or the phone I hardly get signal most of the time it shows no bars on status bar but when I make a call 2 bars show up I've called sprint in my area I should have full bars and the have no record of a tower issues so at this point not sure if it a phone issue
