So i found this method on CM7 Website somewhere
for my Google G2, works on most phones
Lets you lock WCDMA ONLY on your device so you are
always on a 3G/4G (HSPA) tower say bye to E! or anything else.
Make sure you always the newest radios
link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1059347
Dial *#*#4636#*#* on the dialer.
Select Phone Information.
Scroll down to "Set Preferred Network Type".
Select WCDMA Only. and hit home and reboot,
ive used it on my g2
mytouch 4g
inspire
atrix
evo
and more!!
jsut try it
Myt4g runs at 4-5mb In orlando FL, with latest radio
hope it helped
so what happens when you leave the 3g/4g area or go to an area where there is only edge? do you just lose data all together? i would rather have edge than have no data at all
it will connect to edge and G etc.

What's our latest radio?
My phone was set to this when I tried to change it. I get 5-6mb. Good tip nonetheless.

Nice! Make sure to hit the back button instead of home or it won't save the changes.

Isn't this just setting 3g only from the power widgets menu in cm7? I Dont even bother with 2g anymore since I live in the city. i barely run out 3g signal where I live so it's not that bad

I can not select WCDMA Only, it will not select it. I can select WCDMA Preferred. Is that just as good?
Also, when I do select WCDMA Preferred, if I hit the back key it sets back to GSM only. If I hit the home button after I select WCDMA only it is still on WCDMA only if I check again, but when I reboot and check once again it is on GSM only. I can not seem to get this to stick.
Thanks for the tip, will give it a try
It won't work if your on WiFi. Gotta be on t-mobile network.

yeah just an FYI...all this is doing is only allowing your device to stay locked to wCDMA...thats it its not in any way enhancing your speeds or signal. Your phones does this automatically anyway except if you do this, now you wont have signal anywhere there is no wCDMA signal, but there is GSM. So technically this isnt any type of signal enhancement, if anything its actually worse for signal and youll have more dropped calls because your device wont be able to toggle to GSM if it needs to
so what should we have it set on?

Changing to 3g and 2g

Hey guys I was wondering if y'all knew of an app or trick that will let me switch from my 4g to 3 or 2 in a snap without going through dialing stuff and etc? I want to be able to surf the net using 2g or 3g when I'm not at home. When I'm home I use wifi. Thanks!

Can't change apn

I flashed the urban karnage 1.5 today and now my cell signal is no longer set up correctly. This rom does not let you set you manual apn's. Anybody's thoughts on why I am only getting 3g where I used to get lte?
Thanks

I managed to get into the APN settings and make the correct changes but it was useless I still could not get on the HSPA network that I could get on my stock rom

Network mode

Hey all.
I am on wanamlite 2.7 and perseus 32.1
I have recently activated 3g on my phone.
I am on airtel which is a gsm carrier but 3g runs on wcdma only if I am correct.
Now the problem is I get 0 signals if I select wcdma only or 2g if I select gsm only. Now how can I select gsm for mobile network and wcdma for 3g. In auto mode I get almost 0 signals. It is very annoying to change it every time.

You can't select dual mode like for mobile 2G and for data 3G
WCDAMA only is 3G only
GSM only is 2G only
Auto mode mode means your device will get connected to 3G whenever there is 3G network available, in case you are in area where 3G is not available it will connect to 2G.
when you are selecting WCDMA and not getting signal that suggest there is no 3G network available in your area.
it is advisable to keep Auto. so whenever there is 3g available you will get connect to it, and you can see 3G on status bar, when there is active data sync going on, it will be changed to H/H+
while whenever there is only 2G network available you can see E symbol in status bar.
If you have issue with Auto mode, then just try selecting network manually.
K thanks dr.
But the main prb is I am in my room.
If I select wcdma only then it connects to 3g otherwise in auto mode it stays in 2g mode.

This can happens with poor netwok, if 3G have very poor signal and 2G having strong sometimes it prefers 2G
while you select WCDMA it forces to select 3G.
I get 1 forth or half signal in auto mode otherwise constantly full in gsm only. Irrespective of any other settings...
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
you men you getting 1/4 th of 2G while auto, and full while GSM only
OR you are saying 1/4th or half of 3G network?
when you have less signal just check in setting-about phone-status - network type
---------- Post added at 02:21 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:49 PM ----------
one more thing, though it have least chance..
if you are using other country ROM, then just try flashing indian ROM modem
you can get it from my stock ROM thread post#6
Ok I am on wanamlite 2.5 and csc indian changed via csc changer app.
If I select auto mode and am on wifi then I will get full signal (the 4 bars I am talking about).
If I select gsm still 4 bars and in wcdma 0 bars or no connection.
If I disable wifi.
In auto I get 4 bars if I am connected to 2g data or edge and e sign.
If it gets 3g signal with 3g or h or h+ sign I get 2 bars.
Edit:
Outdoors I get 4 bars with h+.
But indoors 1 or 2 bars with h+ or h or 3g but 4 bars with e or wifi.
I don't know if it was due to outdoors or wanamlite downgrade or csc change to inu.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
Also if I enable wifi I don't get 4 bars untill I reboot or go back and forth from gsm only and auto mode.

That's clearly suggests you have poor network in your room, but having strong network for edge(2g)
Here nothing can be helpful except airtel itself
Changing csc actually do nothing, if you want to try then just flash indian modem, this may be more tuned for our network.
Otherwise just change operator, we Indian have number portability, why to worry.

before flashing i wanna make sure modems are backwards compatible because I am on wanamlite 2.5 ubdll3.
and I don't think the latest modem ma6 was released back then.
so updating only modem is enough ?
and should it be flashed with pda tab only ?
Not released date but modem from india may have some fine tuning for Indian network
Yes download tar file from post i shown you previously and flash with pda tab of odin.
Indian modem will have letter 'dd' that is important.
Latest indian modem is ddlk6

Extract it, you will get individual .tar files for bootloader,Kernel,Recovery and Modem.
Install required with PC/Mobile Odin.

No that one is not latest but from ll7 rom
One you have described in quoted is perfect and extracting that file, you will find modem.tar that one is latest for India.
I don't think it have compatibility issue.
Wait I am updating link here
Edit here is latest for India

ok thanks I flashed the modem from ma6 file and now have baseband/modem = N7100DDDLK6
will report on signals after testing a bit.
If you have network issue then it not going to to help you as i said earlier, but at least it will rule out rom issue.

Any way to disable EDGE/GPRS

I've never had an issue with T-Mobile until the last month, and I thought maybe my Note 2 was going wonky but the Note 3 does the same thing. Basically it likes to mostly switch from LTE to EDGE or even GPRS sometimes, and it's driving me insane. If you do *#2263# in the dialer it brings up the network settings and you can force LTE/WCDMA only, but then it never drops down to the battery saving UMTS, which I want to do. There has to be a way to just plain disable EDGE/GPRS completely, or at least change the priority to where it doesn't ever go to those unless it has zero signal of either HSPA, UMTS or LTE. Any ideas?
/sadface. Bump just in case no one saw this.
WCDMA=UMTS
*#*#4636#*#*
Choose phone info
Set to WCDMA only
You won't connect to lte this way but it'll disable the fallback to edge/gprs.
Also, I'd change your apn settings to use the epc.tmobile.com apn instead of the fast.tmobile.com if
you're going to force wcdma.
