So I am seeing allot of complaining about battery life and the Camera. I have not seen any issue other than the screen lag in full HD. Though it does lag as you move on screen it does not seem to effect the recording. It even takes crisp snap shots while recording.
The camera itself seems to be much better. Not sure why others are having issues other than they are not setting the camera up or something.
Battery life is fine and have seen allot of others say the same.
Here are some shots that where taken on auto today and some screen shots of the battery stats. Video to come shortly and I hope this will clear up some miss information that is floating around.
I've gotten mixed results. Daylight pics look good but night shots have quite some noise. Will do more tests later(its getting dark here). Battery performance... Well i flashed yesterday so it's too soon to tell.

I have found camera to be really Good.
And regarding battery life, if you turn on the Extended standby mode; it is amazing.
I noticed some lag while focusing on auto mode(no flash) on the first pic. Didnt happen on the second one.

Nice feedback everyone. I think we all know the digital zoom is poop but that is pretty much all devices. I can say that shooting in low light is a bit of a challenge and will for sure give some mixed results but if you play with it a bit you can still get a good shot as can be seen in some of the shots. I will play with the video some tomorrow.
Forgot to add the battery stats was with stamina off and no helper apps. I am interested to see how long it will go with it on.

Flash my ROM (see sig)
did u try calibrating the battery with any of the free software on the market !
i used to get 3 hours "seriously" out of this phone ... after deploating and calibration it can last 12 hours with heavy use !
I've started using an external battery charger (one of the official lg ones from Ebay) and an extra battery, and just swap them out when my phone dies, and I've noticed on the few occasions where I charge my phone by plugging it in, even though it says 100% (and I've done all the battery calibrations and everything) it doesn't last as long as when I pop in a fully externally charged battery.
My device battery life also got better in comparison to the first days i used it. But for some reason i experience some strange usage right now.
For example:
In the morning from 7 - 10am 100%... later 10% in 15 minutes, with phone in standby-mode.
I checked after i'd make a phonecall, hardware consumption for radio was on 99,9%. After reboot it was ok again, but later hardware consumption for the screen was at high level. Strange... everyday a new experience.
Turning LTE off helped my Spectrum last 24+ hours. I turn 4G on whenever I really need it, though. And with 4G on all day, I can get 12-16 hours under moderate use.

+1, better battery life than stock ROM
I have honestly never seen a phone go through battery quite like this one. I love the phone to death. It feels solid in the hand, and the screen quality is amazing. But I can't deal with the battery going like this. I input a new APN so it would just use HSPA+ .. but does that actually stop the LTE radio from searching? (I am in a non-LTE area)

amoled phones consume less battery because amoled hasnot edge to edge backlight and pixels have light themselves.

Yes our screens are a big consumer of power but there are plenty of disadvantages to AMOLED: heat, image burn (like a plasma tv), image quality and longevity of the screen. The more pixles that are lit the more power it uses, to the point that it uses more power than IPS with large areas of the screen are lit. This along with image retention is why CM7/9/10 has black as a background for everything and stock doesn't. Think of it as LED/LCD TV's vs Plasma. Similar power curves between them.
BTW the little program above dropped my idle power usage to only 5% over 8 hours. I will be trying it with cm10 to see if I get similar results.

I had an Atrix and an Atrix 2. Battery life was good, and bad.
It all depends on how you use. Use it a lot and always have the screen on it's going to go fast. I have a friend who can get a couple days off her Ion.
Let it die. Plug it in, leave it on the charger until it's full. I did that and noticed a HUGE difference in battery life.

Ya mine varied quite a bit by rom too.. I had fantastic life on my atrix with a customized version of CM7.2.
Ya thats true, i actually resorted to looking at quite a lot of reviews and run down tests and ive never seen so many mixed reviews haha... some said it was terrible some said it was solid.
It all depends on how you use the phone my Sk17i (Xperia mini pro) can make through 1 day by draining at least 5% without using it (custom Rom obviously xD)

Ah, another Photon refugee. Hope to see you have the same impact here as you did in the Photon forum. I am at 33+ hours with 71% battery remaining and Zdbox says that I still have >50 hours left (I sure as hell don't believe that). That being said, I am running a Hyperion 4200mah battery that has been great. I also have 54 frozen apps (including TouchWiz - I use ADW) and that has to help. Yesterday I downloaded Easy Battery Saver and am running it in intelligent mode and that seems to have had a large impact. We all know that battery life is a fragile thing and personal usage has the biggest influence. I don't use the phone alot, I am not on any social media and I'm usually on wifi. I'm sure that is a factor even though I'm on the Web a lot. Frankly, I' so happy with the setup that I'm currently running that I have not found a compelling reason to install a custom ROM.
Also, I don't auto update anything just to make sure that I update only on wifi.
Dschoms, I have no doubt at all this has a huge impact on it. I am always on my social media and what not. So again, sure that plays a role.
As for the battery, is that one of the thick ones? Like the extended one for the Evo?
And I was quite active on the Photon forums mostly testing and some aiding. Though most of that was working on kernels with Joker. But I'll help where I can.
And thanks for everyones input thus far. Appreciate it.

Yeah, it does approximately double the thickness of the phone, but the replaceable battery was the determing factor for getting the S3 over the HTC. I use the GPS a fair amount and the larger battery was more desireable. Actually there were two things that I disliked about thd S3. One was the thinness and the other was the slickness of the case. I think the thicker battery gives the phone a better feel in my large hand. As for the slickness, I went to Home Depot and purchase an aerosol can of Plasti-Dip and coated the battery cover with a rubberized coating. Now I have a heftier phone with a non-slip surface and insane battery life. (2 days and two hours on the current charge with a THEORETICAL 55% and 32 hours lefT, LOL)
That's super rad. I may have to look into that non slip grip idea. Sounds like a good plan. Thanks for the info.

Battery life is going to vary by user. EVERYONE uses the phone for different things.. So the person who occasionally text, looks something up may get extensive battery life, but a user who's online quite a bit.. Syncing FB, Emails constantly, will kill battery quicker. So it's a matter of making adjustments to conserve if that's what you prefer... Screen brightness to dimmer setting, Screen off at 15 Secs inactivity, Email sync to longer duration between, FB sync off, Little things like that will increase the life overall. Programs like Juice defender work awesome as well. leaving the network connected when not in use is a huge battery drain.. send to airplane mode or turn off data will help. I've done these things on all my Galaxy (EPIC). Do a search, you'll see some tips around here..
Yeah I'm akways on my phone. Sending e-mails and texts and all that jazz. Thanks.

I use juice defender to help when i have my screen off, it'll disable data. (Can still get text messages just no email sync and such) turns back on with screen on. But it's all on the usage.. Can always invest in an extended life battery if you feel the urge. Makes the phone a bit thicker.. but gives ya longer battery life.
Yeah. I'm not super worried about the battery life and what not. Was just curious.

Guys,I'm thinking of buying this phone.I think the specs are great but I saw many reviews of it being laggy and slow on lollipop and other issues such as overheating and terrible battery life.
I know that it has a qhd screen which will drain battery more quicker but i saw screen on time of 1:30 - 2:30 hours only which i think is really bad considering it has 3000mah battery.
So guys, is it really bad on lollipop?I don't know if it is better on latest version because i saw reviews from june-july.
I need an honest opinion because I'm really fed up with lag on my xperia sp and now I want a lagfree phone.

The phone is a beast, especially considering that it costs 1/3 of current Galaxy S6 or even 1/4 of Note 5.
Battery life is better than S6, in par with Note 5.
Performance is great, camera is great, speaker is great, battery is good, software isn't bloated like Touchwiz.
Only thing that annoys me is slowish updates (because it's not main flagship anymore, G4 is) and washed out blacks since it's LCD screen.
Other than that I think its a great device and I'm happy that I will be using it for another year.
Thanks for the reviews guys.Hopefully i'll get it soon
Hey everybody,
Long time Android user here as well as strictly nexus owner. My Nexus 6 took a a dump the other day and I need a phone pretty quickly. I don't have a ton to spend and I'm leaning towards the 5x. I know there were plenty of performance issues reported by a fair amount of people especially relating to the camera. I'm a ferret owner and I enjoy getting some great shots. My N6 was pathetic most times at getting anything decent (even with them sitting still). Will I regret this camera (speed, not quality) or is the performance improved post 6.0.1 update? Does the camera open up properly by double tapping the power button or does it freeze all the time like on my N6? Also, how bad is the loudspeaker? Have the updates for the 5x done as good of a job as they were supposed to in the lag/jank department?
Bonus: how is it on the N preview?
Thanks in advance guys. I always appreciate you all taking time out to help
Sent from my SM-G920V using XDA-Developers mobile app
I've had no performance issues with mine. I believe 2 of the 7 or so monthly OTA updates did address performance issues for those who were though.
My camera always launches with a double tap and it's quick and snappy. HDR+ pictures come out considerably quicker than my N5 though disabling HDR+ would still be recommended for moving subjects such as a fast critter.
I haven't had any issues with RAM personally but if you are the type of person that likes to load up lots of background services it's possible the 2GB of RAM could become a limitation.
For the $200 Google Fi deal there is nothing that can compete. At $400 there are options though the 5x still competes well with its top notch camera and screen quality.
Well that's good to hear. I don't download a ton of apps or anything like that. Lots of pictures, podcasts, and some surfing of the web. I just cant stand how bad my n6 handles getting a QUICK picture. It's literally 10 secs or more sometimes to load the app. It has not aged well compared to my n5

Yea, I first had mine full stock for a week. Battery lasted for about 3-4 hours of SoT with Data On; 4h with WiFi. Performance was impecable, really fast and snappy. Never had problems with camera like other people had. Yes it takes 2 seconds to do a HDR+ pic, but I cant see the difference between normal and HDR+, so I leave it off mostly so its really fast. Then, I rooted my phone as the Type C cable that I ordered arrived. ( You should order a USB C to USB-A converter, because it doesnt come with the phone, and that is the most stupidest thing ever). After the root, 8-12 h of SoT, buttery smooth performance with Interactive Governor tweaks on PureNexus with Phasma Kernel. So yea, it's freaking awesome so far.
The only con for me personally is that it gets really hot and really fast if the screen is on. If you skype, it's so hot sometimes that my fingers sweat, and If i put the screen on my ear, it almost stings. Resting it for a few seconds turns it back to 29C ,but yea. This phone is just so hot sometimes. Havent tried streaming, but youtube doesnt make it that hot, its arround 39 wich is normal. If you dont root, and your phone gets hotter than 44-46C, your big cpu core will throttle and you will feel an impact in performance(but that really rarely happens, only if you multitask like me)
Overall, 9/10 phone, worth the money. I switched from my broken M7, and did the right choice
Thank you very much. Really appreciate the feedback
