[Q] Anyone considering returning the E4GT due to bad battery life?

I am one of the unfortunate souls who is experiencing terrible battery life due to the AndroidOS bug. I feel like I spend half my waking hours trying to figure out what is causing it and doing different things to my phone improve my battery life.
I'm definitely getting sick of it and while I realize that Samsung/Sprint may eventually come out with a software update that fixes the problem, I'm not sure I'm willing to wait since it could take months (and the issue was supposedly fixed for GS2 phones in 2.3.4).
At this point, I'm considering going back to the Moto Photon--it's battery life is simply amazing. My only issue with the Moto is its unusable camera.
Anyone else getting as frustrated as I am and considering jumping ship to another phone?

What have you done to fix it?
Are you saying that you still have the bug even aftera factory reset ?

Why not just take it back and have them give you a new one since you obviously have a defective phone?
Also how many hours are you actually getting out of the battery?
I don't see any other phone worth switching to and I have had them all. Each with their own specific problem. But this one here is as good as it gets

I've tried just about everything that has been mentioned in the AndroidOS/battery life thread (reset, wifi, autosync) but I'm still getting only 12 hours of battery life on a good day, 8 hours on a bad day
I might try exchanging the phone, but I'm hesitant to do so due to the LOS bug (I have not experienced this with my phone as of yet).
Honestly, while I love the phone in many other ways, I'm about to throw the thing out the window since 8 hours of battery life is simply not acceptable to me

That doesn't mean anything to me. What's the display on time? How good/bad is the cellular signal?

Exchange it bro. Ive had two of these phones so far and none had this problem. I'm getting like 24-30 hours battery with like 4-5 hours screen on time. This phone had awesome battery. Download an apps called better battery stats. This will show wakelocks and processes that are draining the battery. Good luck man.

On a good day, the display is on for less than 30-45 min. On a bad day, the phone display time is somewhere between 90-120 minutes.

I pulled 16 hours ojt of my battery yesterday with over 12 on wifi and i was at 40 percent. I have to use wifi at work as i have no signal and when i do get signal its roaming. I would say that my conditions at work are far from ideal but this phone is great. My old phone would die before 1130(evo shift).

Yeah bro that's awful. I would take that back immediately. There is no sense in that. U definitely have a bug in that phone. Good luck.

mine doesn't seem to get the android os bug unless i'm on a custom kernel. 1 week stock, no problems, 3 days on custom problems each day, back to stock + root and no problems for 48 hrs.
i still have to be 100% sure that my phone didn't like the kernel though so another test will be coming up after a few more days of observation.

I had the issue with the stock kernel and custom kernels. I'm just going to hold out until we can get a AOSP build and hope that using as little of Samsung's code fixes it.

I'm on stock and have nothing out of the ordinary installed. Out of curiosity, do you have a google account with full sync turned on?

Lol 8 12 hours isn't bad with a stock battery and 4.5 inch screen. If you are in a poor reception area it could be that. Otherwise you have alot of Apps running in the background.
My advice : root it and extended battery.

I average 15-20 hours easily on a charge, with a full sync google account
Everything Sync'd Listed below:
- Google+ Notifications
- Music
- Books
- Contacts
- Gmail
- Picasa Web Albums
- Calendar
If anything else can be Sync'd I have not run across it. I also have my Tapatalk set to notify me of PM's, and updates to Subscribed topics, I removed the accuweather widget because it only updates every 3 hours and installed Weatherbug Elite and set it to update every 30 minutes. On top of all that I browse the web regularly to visit sites that are websense'd at work, and I play dungeon hunter 2, and asphalt 6 on my lunch break. At home the phone sits on my desk until its time to pass out, only used for my Rift Mobile authenticator.

Why does the bug seem to affect the gs2 more than other phones? For example, I've never seen it mentioned on the photon forums

I didn't have this problem on my evo and I don't have it on my gs2.

i use my phone a lot while im at school throughout the day , i last using wifi and 3g, and if needed i can do a quick charge while i study in the car but i lasted to 60% using 3g for a few hours

[Q] Terrible Battery Life (>60% drain in an hour)

Recently I have been getting horrible battery life on my Verizon Galaxy Nexus. I am running the stock 4.1 ROM but I have root.
Here is an example that just happened. I am just browsing the internet on my phone, have full 4G coverage but have been on it constantly for this test but the battery drained >60% in a little over an hour!?
Also I had manually turned the brightness all the way down to not wake up my girlfriend.
WiFi and Bluetooth are off too.
This is crazy! Does any one else get this bad of battery drain?

Enable WiFi as it uses less power than 4g.
Also, it seems as if you are playing a game there...which is probably sucking data up and our screens use a lot of power.
Also check to see if any rogue apps are running and when they are running. I use Autostarts in the market to disable apps running in background unnecessarily.

its kinda normal i mean not a surprise least to say. 4g lte will do that to the battery especially weak 4g signal while browsing the internet. I get about 10 to 15 hours on extended battery that i got free from sprint. 1st thing is call Verizon and explain that you have very bad battery drain and than 4g is unusable so that you can maybe get a free extended battery. i don't know if Verizon will do that but its worth a try. 2nd i turned off the NFC chip/android beam because i got no use for it and it seems that battery drains little bit slower. 3rd don't leave your battery/cellphone on charging cable all night. its not good for the battery, unplug it when its fully charged and you can leave it on standby because it doesn't drain much on standby. 4th turn down brightness i mean way down lol. I don't use automatic brightness which to me seems to drain battery because when you are outside it adjust the brightness to full/maximum. 5th I only use lte when i am downloading something, most of the time its off. 6th i set my screen sleep to 30 seconds. before its was 2 minutes and battery was draining like crazy. small changes make big difference. try it, hopefully it helps.

Use AK kernel and 4.2 xylon ...best battery and performance... perfect combination

What is ak kernel never heard of it, Franco,trinity an glados maybe, xylon are you kidding that just a sh1tty kang of cm an aokp ported to aosp 4.2.1.

Xylon is one of the better 4.2.x ROMs out there.

I personally prefer pa and cm, once they are updated an stable on 4.2.1 they will take over once again, you always get unofficial ported versions early like xylon and jellybro but they are short lived, they are only for people who can't wait an need a 4.2.1 cherry picked rom right away, in couple of weeks xylon will disappear as everyone moves back to cm an pa, I remember jellybro cm10 unofficial was all the rage for a month until cm made CM10 official last time, xylon is just doing what jellybro has always done releasing an early ported version until its official from the bigger groups.

I can mostly agree with that. I personally prefer CM too but even on 4.1.2 I stick with Jellybro because it always has new stuff merged days earlier compared to official CM nightlies.
I go with Xylon right now because it's the most frequently updated ROM, has most features ported over and the dev is very friendly.

I would look at any recently updated or newly installed apps if you think there is a problem. But constant usage for an hour will eat up a ton of battery. Did you have a browser tab open that was constantly pulling data (i.e. using a lot of resources)?

Oh yea, my battery life is horrible! And that is with a brand new extended battery ( 2100, not 3800 ). I get about 4 hours out of it, and that is with 4G off, Wifi off, BT off, 1 widget and a battery saving program running ( One Power Guard ). I have basically had to "un-smart" the phone, which means turning off all the cool features I bought it for. I have found I have a phone with the USB charging port problem, so I am going to fix that and see if it gets better. If not, not sure what I am going to do. But I see such a wide range of responses to the battery question ( some get 12 hours, some get 4 hours ) that I am wondering if they updated the hardware at some point.

I believe its really the Samsung`s hardware and the weak radio they put into the phone. I had 3 different Samsung phones and i keep getting same problems. I think weak radio is to blame for high battery drainage because they use all the power just to connect to the tower. Lots of times i would take trips down to lake of Ozarks in Missouri. With htc and motorola phones (htc epic 4g and Motorola photon) i had a great signal with a minimal battery drainage. Even driving thru middle of nowhere i had signal but few weeks back i took a trip again and my galaxy nexus had no signal at all and it died in 5 hours probably of constant search of signal/tower. I just can`t wait for the new Motorola phones (no physical keyboard please) to come out for sprint. They just have awesome radios; hopefully they won`t change that.

Well good to know I'm not alone... I guess. I just feel like I used to get a lot better battery life.
I did get one of the dock chargers a few months back with an extra battery, and whatever battery isn't in my phone has always been stuck in the charger. Now that I think about that, that may be toasting these batteries.
I might try and take this in to Verizon and get something out of them. Maybe I can get something for all the money I have been paying for insurance for the last year.
Like EVOSerb said, maybe they'll give me an extended battery (I have one, but it was a $10 one from EBay that gets the same battery life as the stock).

Phone keeps shutting off

Over the past couple weeks my sons phone started to have a couple issues. These are the first issues we've experienced since we got the phone when it was first released. The first two problems were that it started dying real fast and I mean in a couple hours with zero usage. Before the problem started we were getting 15-20 hours with moderate usage. The second issue was that at any point in time it would shut down and it would take a charger to be plugged in to restart it (even though it wasn't dying).
When this started it was completely stock. Since then here are the steps I've taken...
1) checked battery stats, Android OS was always on top at around 70%. No rogue apps
2) loaded CPU Spy, the phone seemed to be sleeping normally
3) remove sd card
4) shut off wifi
5) factory reset (didn't stop the issues)
6) went into the stock recovery and wiped data and cache (I've since heard this may cause an issue in the stock build)
7) loaded a custom recovery (Agat)
8) loaded CM10 (this seems to have fixed the problem with it dying quickly)
And it just shut off out of no where. Is there something else I can try?

Have you checked the battery. Take it out and place on flat surface and spin it if it spins get a new battery.

Maybe I'm wrong but I read that he flashed Agats kernel then flashed CM 10. I believe you can't use a TW based Kernel on CM builds? That may cause serious problems.

He was having issues on stock. Then he loaded up custom roms.
But yeah check the battery that's what the quick dying might be.
Mines started dying even tho it said it had 70-80% battery left. Bought a new battery problem solved.

I'm going to head out and pick up a new battery once the Sprint store open this morning. Then I'm planning on bringing it completely back to stock and hopefully that takes care of it.
My wife is threatening me that if we need to get him a new phone that she'll give him her iphone 4 and buy an iphone 5 for herself. I need to make sure I get this phone back up and running properly so that doesn't happen. lol

I went to the Sprint store this morning and he didn't even have to test the battery to know it's defective. I guess batteries get swollen at a certain point and from that point on it will hold less and less of a charge and start shutting down spontaneously as it gets worse. Needless to say I have another Samsung battery on order and will be getting this back to as stock as I can.

[Q] CM 10.1 Battery issues.

Greetings, its been a while since ive visited the forums, but i did a bit of searching and didnt find anything. I upgraded to CM10.1 a couple of weeks ago and have been having terrible battery life compared to CM10. At first i figured it might be just a new rom (i had to do a full wipe before everything started working normally) and the battery had to normalize. But no, its been 2 weeks or so and 3 updates and the same crappy battery life. I looked at the battery usage and this is from today, but it was the same last friday when i started looking at it.
I can believe 15 mins, or 20 mins of screen time. Not 45. Ive been at work... working. So i dont know, maybe its a bug, but im barely making a work day without having to plug the phone in. Can anyone help out?

Try a new kernel. 10.1 is a bit of a battery killer. All stock-like ROMs are. I use LeanKernel, but I don't believe he utilizes your s2. Try ktoonsez?

Disaster suddenly

Hi all: I have been posting in the CM11 ROM for this device but I figured I would post my issues here and see if anyone has any insight or experiences.
I was on CM11 for 4 days with stability, speed and life was great. Last night I randomly got a reboot when looking at twitter. Fine, no big deal. 2 minutes later it happened again. Odd. I went into the play store and then it froze. I had to research and found out how to reboot it. Once rebooted, it would restart again. So, I went into TWRP, wiped Everything and then refreshed the ROM. Within 1 minute it froze again.
I flashed Stock and sure enough it froze on me. Noe I am annoyed and went to bed and figured I would deal with it this am. I plugged it in last night under 10% battery. Woke up 8 hours later and its at 14%. 2 hours since and its now at 17%. Clearly something is wrong.
Full disclosure---i bought a best buy geek squad refurbished unit and have done so many times with tablets with no problems. I am still within my 45 day return window and will probably just exchange for a new one since the refurbished price is the same as it was. Sadly, I wish they would give me a new one for the black friday price.
Has anyone had such experiences or have a clue what went wrong? Thanks

How did you flash the ROM? Tell each steps on how you flashed it. Did you mess with the CPU clock speed or anything? Did you also have any battery problems readings before flashing? I did a dirty flash of cm11 in which led to problems later, so I'm now on stock rooted and still works fine with no freezes. Probably tarp crashed? Happened to me.

I rooted via odin. I them used twrp manager to get the recovery and did a total clean flash. Wiped everything including system. NO I did not have any battery issues nor did I mess with cpu clock speed ( don't even know how ). All I did was use xposed to try the mutliwindow solution and downloaded lux and a material theme. Nothing out of the ordinary I don't think.

Either the battery is bad or could be something with the software. The only time when mine reboots is when I use to Much ram and it freezes. Other than that no problems.

I plugged it into another outlet. The outlet I always use charges me iPad and note 4 without a problem. I left for an hour and sure enough I got home and the tablet was at 100%. Yay. I started downloading my apps and noticed while still plugged in, the battery was at 95%. Odd. I took out the charger and Bam, rebooted. Off to best buy.

Wow it restarted and now shows 7 percent. I'll let you know what bb says.

Similar experience
I had a similar experience with my 2012 Nexus 7,it turned out that the connections between the charging port, battery and device were all faulty. They weren't soldered together properly when the device was manufactured (not as rare a condition as we are lead to believe either, regardless of manufacturer). I was lucky the I was able to take the device apart to check the problem without leaving any evidence that I had opened it, and I was able to exchange it. So from my experience, that kind of error always appears to relate to some form of battery issue. Also had it happen to me with a Galaxy S4, however it wasn't anything to do with the device itself, it was damaged connections on the battery.
