ROFL, he doesn't need to install CWM Recovery just to wipe all. He has stock recovery where he can do wipe data and cache or just put a code in the dialer.
Just shut off the phone and turn it on by pressing Home button + Power and you will get into stock recovery, then wipe data and cache.
i tried many ways like pressing the code in the dial pad, rebooting, wiping cache/data, reflashing but nothing happens

Try flashing another firmware
Sent from my GT-S5660 using xda premium
a new firmware would fix it why would u like 2.3.4 when the latest is 2.3.6, try to flash DXKT4 and then make a factory reset hope this helps
I would suggest, you give a shot to the new CyanogenMod 7.2
Follow this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1381355
I tell you, it is much more reliable than you might think. Moreover, because of the custom kernel, you can select some pre-installed CPU governor, so that your GIO become even a bit faster.
Good Luck
Hi,
First, i would like to know, you are upgrading from what firmware to what firmware? is it one package firmware or full package?
I would suggest you to flash it again, but this time, using the full package firmware. After that, don't forget to wipe data/cache, and then factory reset, all via recovery mode.
My exp about upgrading:
- from S5660DXKC3 (froyo, one package) to S5660DXKP6 (gingerbread, one package)
- unstable, lagging, wasteful of battery (bottom line is, disappointed)
Note that xkp6 2.3.6 on xda thread has been modified, on sammobile its a clean rom

Dear Friends,
I bought an "olleh" galaxy gio and updated it to 2.3.6 from Odin.
Now the"Olleh" logo do not show and in its place samsung generic logo show on startup.
Main problem is, since update, my "auto-rotate" option rotates screen in opposite directions and when switching on wifi or BT, it just shows "Error".
No detail of error is shown.
Except that everything is fine. Calling, texting and gaming...
I used the following ROM to update:
S5660XXKTF_S5660DBTKT1_S5660XXKT4_HOME.tar.md5
Please help me with WIFI as I need it very much and could save me alot.

When flashing with ODIN:
Make sure you flash the right firmware! If you flashed any firmware, it also flashes their model's and Country's: modem, csc, kernel, system, etc...
Thus resulting wifi, data, bluetooth, and connectivity errors.
Find the right Stock ROM for your Gio model here. Then use ODIN to flash it.
Yesterday, I installed Debian 2.3.7 rom after GS3 mod cm9 rom. And then, I realized I couldn't play HQ youtube video in Debian rom, so I decided to install CM7 by phiez. But I got a boot loop and then a error in CWM: "E.:Can't copy META-INF/com/google/android/update-binary. Installation aborted".

I am running cyanogenmod v9 and entering this into the dialer did nothing, even after pressing the call button.
Might need to flash the UVLH1 radio 1st before flashing the stock recovery.
1. install/flash stock ROM 1st.
2. Once installation completed Reboot to custom recovery.
3. install/flash stock recovery.zip.
4. Power off to verified stock recovery.

SGH-T989_UVLH1_Stock_Recovery.zip

I found the above links in a different thread, it's not my work, I forgot whose work it is but that should work. You have to flash the uvlh1 radio too. You should also flash the reset for the flash counter. The link to the thread is below.

Unfortunately I have not been able to resolve the USB issue and am sending in the phone. I realized only after performing the factory reset that this would not delete all of my personal data, including apps, so things like Rom Manager are still in place. All I want to do is completely wipe the device. As far as I know it is impossible to do this without root, and rooting requires functioning USB. Is there any way for me to remove these files or root without USB?

In a earlier post you said you are running CM9. If that is true, you are already rooted. FYI... ROM Manager is baked into the CM ROMS, so factory resetting it will not erase ROM Manager, but will restore the phone to a "wiped" CM9 base.
What recovery are you running, CWM, TWRP, etc...? In either event, you can flash TDJ's Darkside Superwipe and all of your personal data will be wiped.
I am no longer rooted and am back to the stock recovery. Is it still possible to superwipe?
edit: nope, I get a "signature verification failed" error.
for clarification, I flashed SGH-T989_UVLH1_Stock_Odex_zipaligned_signed.zip and SGH-T989_UVLH1_Stock_Recovery.zip from CloudTown3's post, and since then have performed a factory reset on the device. I still have ROM Manager and presumably traces of other apps I would like to remove before sending in the device.

Did you wipe before flashing the stock zip? Weird, maybe ask KRZ-2pa if he left ROM manager in the stock ROM he made? You are able to flash these zips from stock recovery? I get file verification errors. I tried factory reset and wipe caches from stock recovery.
I don't fully understand how it works with Rom Manager staying as a default app after I performed a factory reset. I guess I should have removed it manually while still rooted. It is located in "system/app/RomManager.apk". For some reason this file survives a factory reset. If there were any way to remove that file, I think that's all that is necessary. It makes me wonder if there are other things i'm not noticing that should also be removed.
Hi,
Two nights ago my wonder became very slow and task killing, unlike usual, didnt help. So i decided to take deeper action and using zedbox, i chose system programs (via root) and ended almost all the tasks (system and non system). I had done this before and i didnt have any problems but, this time the system started rebooting. It keeps rebooting as soon as i stop using it or make a call, so i literally cannot keep it on; it is Cycle Rebooting.
What do i do?
Thanks in advance
You might have accidentally removed or changed a certain periodic settings.
Certain programs or processes tends to run not at all times but at certain time and month only.
Try to wipe dalvik and cache. Then reflash your ROM and gapps(if needed). (this is if you're using Custom ROM's)
If it is stock ROM. Simply do a restore using ODIN.
Then use seeders in your device to reduce lag.

If you're using CM9 based or CM10 based. Just reflash it and wipe dalvik and cache.
If you're using Stock GB ROM (original samsung) restore using ODIN.
Seeders can be found in the General Section of Galaxy W.

Hmmm. Usually that should work. But its a good experience for everyone. Thanks for the feedback. Will look through it once again.
So iv rooted, and using goo manager (can't use Odin because I don't have PC and this was easier) I flashed the latest version of twrp. I first did a nandroid backup and then tried to flash PAC ROM 4.4.2 nightly and cm11 neither worked (I have tried others since then) each time it says "no md5 file found". Its not the end of the world if I have to use the stock ROM for a while till I sort this out.. But when I flashed my nandroid backup I got stuck in a bootloop now I don't know what to do. I can get to twrp still and download mode if nessessary
Please help im a bit of a noob but I'm not stupid and have flashed ROMs on 3 devices successfully. Thanks in advance! I would be greatful for a fix to either of these problems.

If you're using a Linux machine there is a program called heimdall (if I recall correctly) that is supposed to be similar to Odin. I have no personal experience with it so I suggest Google and the search function here.
There is an option in twrp to check for md5 make sure you're not having it Check for it or it will fail, I ran into the same issue after I started playing on my s3 never had that issue on other devices but I do on this one. You can also try using cwm.
For the boot loop try a factory reset a lot of times it will fix it. Also keep in mind that 4.3 roms take a long time to boot the first time after flashing. Check in the development section enewman17 has a stock 4.3 restore it will put the phone back like it would have been immediately after the 4.3 OTA (except warranty bit in download mode will still show a count and be in red letters) even down to stock Samsung 3e recovery.

I was on stock ROM on the rogers-canadian variant which should be the same as the at&t variant I think anyway I cant find the checkbox for "check md5" in twrp do u know where to look? Also can I flash cwm.zip through twrp?(if twrp will allow me) or will this cause more problems. I think there must be a way to fix my problems but I'm pas the extent of my knpwledge . also I think there must be an issue with the stock backup that is causing the bootloop don't know how to fix it. Not working still after multiple factory resets and advanced wipes
Thanks guys I really need help with this
Since you have the i747m (Canadian version), I think it would be best to start from scratch.
Were you running a stock 4.3 ROM?
I would love to start from scratch but I can't flash ROMs and I get a bootloop when I try to use my backup. So I can't boot into system and its the same as the i747 just without the att bloatware and rogers instead
Just flash the stock rooted ROM from xda. Just search for s3 pre-rooted roms , download, and flash via Odin

Thanks sounds simple enough but I will have a hard time getting a windows PC to use. In the meantime is there anything else I can try? Is it possible to flash cwm through twrp or does that not work? If it does will it harm the Odin process to go back to stock? And will USB debugging work if no OS is installed on phone... How does that work?

You probably need to format your internal SD card from twrp (the option where you have to type the word "yes") I believe it's under advanced wipe settings. I would backup anything important from your internal card, then format it. Then try doing whatever you're trying to do (flash a certain rom or restore a certain backup). I had a similar issue last week. I couldn't flash roms or restore backups because the phone would reboot into a bootloop when twrp tried wiping the data partition.
If you can't get into a rom or connect to a computer to backup your internal cards contents, you may have to use the file manager inside twrp to backup to your external SD card.

Not sure sorry.. And I could be wrong but I think if you flash stock from Odin, it wipes your internal memory as well. If that's the case, I would backup whatever rom/backup you plan on using to your external memory and try my advice.
Other than that, not sure what to suggest. I can only advise based on what I have personally done in the past.

I use twrp on the n7 and its exellent. I tried it with the s3 and always had random problems after a flash or restore. I switched to Phil's cwm touch and have nor had a problem in months and I flash or restore almost daily.
I am on stock based custom rom on my i747m (canadian) TWRP 2.7.0.0 works perfectly, no issues.
Just in-case someone doesn't know they have newer version of twrp for both Us and Canadian versions.
