I'm having a very peculiar charging problem with my Note 2.
I should disclose, I'm using my S3's charger since I've misplaced mine. So I'm using a 1A charger instead of the higher capacity 2A Note 2 charger. But that still doesn't give any reason for this to happen.

As you can see in the last 3 grids (1 grid = 1 hour), my Note 2 charged from around 22% to 100%. That's 78% in 3 hours.
Then today:
Check out the last 4 grids. That's actually my phone on CHARGE! Barely 5% in 4 hours, and you can see how inconsitant the graph is!
What could be wrong??
I'm on Paranoid Android and Neak Kernel. But I remember having this problem even when I was on stock kernel, I thought flashing another one would fix this but it didn't.
Try a different cable.....though that doesn't explain the fast charging....either way, try it. I was so surprised by how different they can be.

I've tried different cables and entire chargers too. Happened again last night. Around 12 hours of charging, 6 to 35 percent.
Please help me debug this!

Similar problem here - some days my Note 2 will charge, other days it won't charge at all (doesn't even register as charging).
No obvious reason for this. Tried 4 different leads, 2 different batteries and 3 different kernels. Sometimes charging is fine, other times, no charging.
I've had to buy an external battery charger from eBay...
I have the slow charge issue if the cabke is curled up but if I lay cable out flat (no loops) it charges very fast. Not sure why it makes a difference but it does for me.

Whoa. This is weird then. My only last hope was trying a 2A charger but I guess it'll give the same results
Guys I have the same problem with all kernels available. I can say only with perseus kernel the problem can be solved. With need the options: ignore safety margins and ignore 100 ma for safe chip. With that two options the phone just charge as fast like 1500 ma. The battery will charge conpketely with 2.5 hrs.

Do you have STweaks installed? Try to do some adjustment to the "power" section and see if it helps.
I'll try those settings out. While we're on the battery topic, can someone recommend some ROM+Kernel (and settings) which give great battery life? PA+Neak is disappointing :/
Application Name?

I'm having the exact same problem on just a rooted stock rom, 4.1.2. Could I have the name of this battery monitor app so I can graph my charging rate too? I'm interested in what is going on.

I just bought an extended battery (the Sprint Store one) and when it stops charging, it doesn't show the number of chargness anymore and it doesn't show the lightning bolt on the battery once the LED light is green. So do I just leave it overnight to charge?
It will be charged by the time you wake up in the morning lol
You sure? It doesn't show the charging icon on the battery... And I doubt a bigger battery would charge that fast?
Why don't you download battery monitor widget its free and shows all stats.

Yes... SBC will get you maximum charge... if you don't use SBC then what you need to do is follow the instructions located here:

Personally, I love SBC kernels. I've never had issues with them at all and it works great with my 3500mah battery.

It will not pass 1500 unless you use sbc, the stock kernel will stop at 90% but say it's at 100% to prevent overheating. So technically your initial drain will be really fast cause when you unplug your phone its really on 90% and not 100%. My phone has never overheated or any weird issue you would expect to happen.

The ONLY way you're going to get full potential out of your battery is by using SBC kernels. HTC has a charging bug where it won't let you charge past 1500, so technically it will stop(go green) you at about 90% but shows 100%. Check out this thread with a bunch of kids using 3500 batteries; they're mad because they can't charge to 100% but if they use sbc they wont have that problem lol.

Here's some info about kernels/sbc
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=894880
To flash a kernel you need to make sure you only flash a sense kernel for a sense rom and aosp kernels for aosp or you phone might not boot beyond the evo logo(nothing major its easy fix). You find a compatible kernel and grab the package and boot into recovery and flash it. I'd recommended wiping dalvik cache after flashing a kernel.
Instructions
http://androidforums.com/evo-shift-all-things-root/293666-guide-how-flash-custom-roms-kernels.html
Here below is the direct link to the kernel that I would recommend for myn. Its the netatchy toast mod cfs with hdmi built in. Good luck
http://qap.la/~netarchy/netarchy-toastmod-4.3.4-cfs-havs-less-nosbc-universal-signed.zip
i dont know but its been a day and im still at 50% so i guess i dont need sbc
I have the seidio 3500mah extended battery and they recommend charging an extra 2-3 hours after it says full. I've found this to be true; if I pull it off right when it says full it will soon drop anywhere from 30-50% of the charge.

Yeah if its sleeping 80% of the time then I would expect it to last that long but not for heavy users.
I got two extended batteries. One in the phone and one on an external charger. I never use the cable to charge anymore. I just swap the batteries when my phone dies.
Sent from my PC36100
I also have the Sprint extended.
I see people saying that the battery won't fully charge without SBC. Completely untrue.
Also untrue is that the phone will not charge past 1500. This doesn't make any sense to begin with -- why would they sell extended batteries if they don't work...? Or why would they sell it if consumers needed a special kernel that you can only get if you're rooted?
Perhaps the reason the people with 3500 batteries don't get the full 3500 charge is because most of those batteries aren't even 3500.
----
You need to cycle charge it a few times and then you'll start seeing the battery life go up. I can get at around 2 days with light usage now.
----
Honestly you don't need an SBC kernel at all, though it might extend the life a bit. It's completely a preference thing...

Well if you do in fact see difference in charging speed, then why would not Samsung supply this kind of charger with S3 instead of 1A one? I assume this would be another feature to brag about (now charging twice as fast as ordinary charges or something). So I would assume it's either not true (placebo effect) or it's infact shall be having bad influence on battery. We need somebody with electrical degree probably to render final verdict.
BlackBerry has a rapid charger for the Playbook and they actually tell you there's no problems to use it on their handsets. I think the reason for not including it is that the price is so much higher - retail $50 vs $25. Same as iphone and ipad chargers.
I use my Play book charger almost exclusively with my S3 - and the Playbook has sat unused on the shelf for over 6 months.
Charging speed is controlled by the kernel, so you could technically charge with any charger in existence but the kernel will only allow the phone to charge at a preset amount. The stock charger is under this voltage cap so other chargers will charge faster, but as I said, it is capped. So I wouldn't worry about it.

I've tried with my OEM sgs3 and sony vita charger. The phone draws the same current on both. So yes placebo. And to answer if charging at a higher current is bad for the battery, it depends on the battery cell. But usually charging at a higher current does shorten it's life.

What about in reverse? Can I charge Nexus 7 with lower amperage S3 charger? Any ill effects?
I use a Motorola charger because it has two usb females
Sent from my SGH-I747M using xda app-developers app
As long as a USB charger puts out the required 5v it will do fine. The device will pull as many amps as it wants out of the charger up to the max capacity of the charger. If the charger cant put out as many amps as the device wants, the device will just charge slower at the lower amperage.
As slower charging heats up batteries less and stresses them less, this isnt a problem at all unless you are in a hurry. I charge mine at night and could care less how fast it charges.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
Over drawing current from a charger isn't a great idea. Most chargers are designed to run at 80% max current for short periods if you run them higher they can do a number of bad things.

I use my stock charger at night when I don't care how long it takes to charge (it takes a ridiculous ~8hrs to charge). When I need a quick boost I use my old HTC charger and HTC cable. I think the output amps is higher but it seriously only takes an hour to fully charge my S III.
Mine takes 6 hours to go from 10% to 100% using the included samsung charger and cable. That seems like a long time.
Mine takes 2 or 3 hours. 6 hour charge might are the chargers with slow charging. My dad has a slpw charger till he changed it. Have you tried changing chargers?
It's USB 2.0 so it's expected to be slow. The 3.0 port would have been bigger. Samsung sacrificed charging speed for aesthetic. To be the thinnest tablet they've ever made.
This is the first tablet for me and in effects.....too much slow on charges. Fortunately I use only at home. A part that....it's a bomb !!

My 3 years old Note II - N7100 is acting weird since few months, when I connect to charger it takes more than 12 hours to full charge. I connect it to charger overnight, and when I see in the morning it's just around 60%, it charges 60% in 8-9 hours.
But this keeps changing, few nights ago it charged only 20% overnight.
I changed my 3 years old battery thinking that might be a problem, bought Intex 2500mah one , same problem. Changed chargers, I usually use my Note 5's original charger but no use. I was using custom Rom - Eclipse, then flashed original Rom but still problem persist. I thought my usb port must be faulty so ordered usb flex from eBay and changed it, but didn't work, actually after installing new usb flex, my mic stopped working but charging showed same - 12+ hours time, so returned it.
So what you think is the problem? Should I buy new original battery or try another usb flex? I am frustrated. Sorry for long Question.

Try to test using a different cable... and also check if your adapter is working properly...
most of the time the cable is at fault...
Install app galaxy charging current and see what current your charger and cable is giving should be around 1500. Most of time cable and charger is at fault. Hope it helps

I had the same problem that it's located on charger metallic electrolitic capacitors (390 uF 10V). I changed both for 470uF 16V and now it's working fine again.

I removed charger port, sprayed some WD 40, cleaned with earbuds and as I mentioned I have also tried replacing USB Flex, did not work.

I had the same problem. Mine solved by charging the device couple of times while it's off. Now the device gets charged in 2-3 hours.
Problem solved, after trying everything changing cable worked. My note 5 cable charges my note 5 fast but same cable takes 20 hrs to charge note 2, combination of note 5 adapter and gionee cable worked. Now it takes around 2 hours to full charge my note 2.
Thanks everyone.
