How do you know when an Extended Battery is full charged? - EVO 4G Accessories

I just bought an extended battery (the Sprint Store one) and when it stops charging, it doesn't show the number of chargness anymore and it doesn't show the lightning bolt on the battery once the LED light is green. So do I just leave it overnight to charge?

It will be charged by the time you wake up in the morning lol

You sure? It doesn't show the charging icon on the battery... And I doubt a bigger battery would charge that fast?

Why don't you download battery monitor widget its free and shows all stats.

Yes... SBC will get you maximum charge... if you don't use SBC then what you need to do is follow the instructions located here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=712990
Personally, I love SBC kernels. I've never had issues with them at all and it works great with my 3500mah battery.

It will not pass 1500 unless you use sbc, the stock kernel will stop at 90% but say it's at 100% to prevent overheating. So technically your initial drain will be really fast cause when you unplug your phone its really on 90% and not 100%. My phone has never overheated or any weird issue you would expect to happen.

The ONLY way you're going to get full potential out of your battery is by using SBC kernels. HTC has a charging bug where it won't let you charge past 1500, so technically it will stop(go green) you at about 90% but shows 100%. Check out this thread with a bunch of kids using 3500 batteries; they're mad because they can't charge to 100% but if they use sbc they wont have that problem lol.

Here's some info about kernels/sbc
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=894880
To flash a kernel you need to make sure you only flash a sense kernel for a sense rom and aosp kernels for aosp or you phone might not boot beyond the evo logo(nothing major its easy fix). You find a compatible kernel and grab the package and boot into recovery and flash it. I'd recommended wiping dalvik cache after flashing a kernel.
Instructions
http://androidforums.com/evo-shift-all-things-root/293666-guide-how-flash-custom-roms-kernels.html
Here below is the direct link to the kernel that I would recommend for myn. Its the netatchy toast mod cfs with hdmi built in. Good luck
http://qap.la/~netarchy/netarchy-toastmod-4.3.4-cfs-havs-less-nosbc-universal-signed.zip

i dont know but its been a day and im still at 50% so i guess i dont need sbc

I have the seidio 3500mah extended battery and they recommend charging an extra 2-3 hours after it says full. I've found this to be true; if I pull it off right when it says full it will soon drop anywhere from 30-50% of the charge.

Yeah if its sleeping 80% of the time then I would expect it to last that long but not for heavy users.

I got two extended batteries. One in the phone and one on an external charger. I never use the cable to charge anymore. I just swap the batteries when my phone dies.
Sent from my PC36100

I also have the Sprint extended.
I see people saying that the battery won't fully charge without SBC. Completely untrue.
Also untrue is that the phone will not charge past 1500. This doesn't make any sense to begin with -- why would they sell extended batteries if they don't work...? Or why would they sell it if consumers needed a special kernel that you can only get if you're rooted?
Perhaps the reason the people with 3500 batteries don't get the full 3500 charge is because most of those batteries aren't even 3500.
----
You need to cycle charge it a few times and then you'll start seeing the battery life go up. I can get at around 2 days with light usage now.
----
Honestly you don't need an SBC kernel at all, though it might extend the life a bit. It's completely a preference thing...

[Q] Battery Life Changes?

Can someone help me improve my battery life? I am currently using the MIUI ROM Made by "Ganii" and I want to save a little more battery life. Is there anything I can do to change the battery drainage? I am also using Multitasking Pro and it helps a lot but not enough. Screenshots below of my ROM info please leave comments!

I use set CPU. Some ppl argue it drains battery, but I believe if you have it set at a fast enough speed for your taste and just have a few other profiles it helps. The hugest bettery improvement for me came when I used the battery calibration app. Just drain your battery to 1% and use it. My battery life jumped from 12 hrs to 48 hrs! Also leaving Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, data and auto sync except when you need them helps.

I too have issues with the battery life of my desire z. With everything off and just sms and taking a few calls, battery only lasts up to 12 hours.
Tried several apps which didn't help either.I'm running on stock rom. Would changing roms help?
Will try set cpu and see what happens.

I don't know how to use SetCPU correctly. I always encounter errors. Please help fill out what i need to in the SetCPU.
Different people have different ideas about setcpu. Some believe that you shouldn't have any profiles. Others run many profiles. Personally, I believe that if you have setcpu set for userspace or on demand the phone is then constantly trying to figure out how much performance you need, causing a slight drain. I have mine set to 1113MHz performance. And for screen of the complete minimum. It never really gets to warm and is fast for everything I need. You said you where getting errors? What kind?

Root and flash a rom. I was at 12 hours before. Also get the app 'battery calibrator' after rooting. I can't argue with 48hours... can you?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
48 hours from the miscalibrated battery indicator (which is possible from the 1% trick) or did you actually use the phone for 48 hours?
Unless it's in airplane mode, it won't last 2 days with moderate use. In particular, any usage that includes 3G will drain the battery quick unless you have a strong signal.
flash cyanogenmod nightly, or 7.0 stable...
settings on cyanogenmod w stock battery:
cpu low 245mhz
cpu high 724mhz (or something)
scheduling: powersave
display: automagic or 50%
DO NOT USE APPLICATIONS FOR TASK KILLING, let android do it.
this works for 24 hours of occasional use, phone calls, sms, browsing.
and go order 2 of the red INCREDIBLE 1800mah batteries off ebay like i did (just arrived today) for $10 total, including shipping. i'm draining the batteries in 2 of my g2's right now with wifi, btooth, max settings, and youtube HD playing constantly. after they're drained to auto shutoff, i'll charge over night, then test like i normally use the phone tomorrow.
supposedly this battery is 1.4 x the capacity of the stock g2 battery. we'll see if it really is
Letting a li-ion battery fully drain is really bad. Li-ion batteries don't last forever and after a certain amount of charges it will eventually dither. Its a lot of charges to make that happen but you should never let a li-ion battery fully deplete. Oh and there is no such thing as battery calibration for li-ion batteries.
Also to the OP you shouldn't let the world know your imei number...just a thought
dont send me pm's crying about how i hurt your feelings in a thread

the phone shuts off, before harm is done. that's my understanding. at a grand whopping total of $10 total (shipped, for two ( 2 ) of these 1800mah things) i'm not really worried.
the os is smart enough to not fully deplete the battery, ei shutting itself off. i may toss the old ones in a fire (gasp!) at some point just for fun and to make the greenies cringe.

Is battery calibration necessary?

How important is battery calibration using the apps in the market? This whole past week has been a flashing frenzy I'm sure for many of you, without a real break to calibrate battery before you flashed the next newest release.
I've lasted the same rough battery life without wiping batt stats, using a battery calibration app or cycling to 0% and all seems fine, so I'm wondering what the importance of it is.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
Just use the phone and charge the battery as needed. These batteries don't need calibrated. I have 3 and charge them all differently and they all get the same type of life.
But when you flash a rom be sure to give it time like 2-3 days before you judge battery life sometimes old battery stat files stick after flashing so make sure you calibrate these batteries as least once a month.
I use Battery Calibration everytime I flash a new rom... Isn't that what we are suppose to do?
Yes u should calibrate.. for example using stock roms for weeks I never calibrated.. got 16 hours. Flashed juggernot and beast mod got the same battery life because I didn't calibrate.. after running beast for 2 days I did my first calibration and a day later I was pushing 30 hours on one charge.
After u flash a new rom or kernel you should calibrate

Wtf? So what's happening? Is my phone ACTUALLY going to zero or its assuming i've hit zero after (X) hours? Once I calibrate, the phone should know that I haven't burned as much as it thought?
And this is after EVERY rom flash? Gets tedious?

Clockwork mod recovery. for rooted devices, power phone off, hold volume up and down then with power button and release when you see the Samsung logo.
You must have installed clockwork recovery to have this work, find instructions in the Android development sections.

Screw calibrating and screw wiping battery stats. Use your phone as you normally do and battery life will maximize on its own with a couple charge cycles anyways. If you have battery life issues its much more likely to be an application, rom or kernel issue.... when all else fails then look to calibration or wiping of battery stats.
If you don't agree then feel free to waste your time calibrating every time you flash a new rom.

[help needed] CM7.2.0 on Defy+ (MB526) charging stops at 80%

I have been researching around on old and official threads of CM7, but still couldn't solve my problem. I really hope the forum moderators do not scold me opening a new thread asking for help on development section.
My device: Defy+ MB526
ROM: CM7.2.0-RC0-Defy-KANG (built 2 Jan 2012)
Kernel: 2.6.32.9
Everything works perfectly, and way much better and smoother than the stock GB rom.
Problem: Charging stops at 80%. I have been searching around for a workaround or patch, but nothing found so far.
Please help....

Yes, I find this issue when HF5X in use. BF5X could be full-charged however.
Perhaps it related the different nominal voltage.

Yes, this is last thing what I want to fix. Battery calibration, wiping battery stats, replacing battd from latest builds, nothing fix this.

I've the same problem on my Defy+ with WajkUIU rom.
It stoped around 82%, and I've tried to wipe batt stats in recovery, but it didn't help.
I thought that I've solved it when I did factory/data wipe becouse it gone straigt to 100% with 4196mV, but after I've recharged my phone next day it stoped at 87%.
I'll now try to do the factory/data wipe again at 87% and do the battery calibration right after.

Have you tried CM9? I am planning to try soon. Any comment, is it suitable to be our main/daily ROM at the moment?
this is the 'hard' calibration: let you battery drain fully, till it switches off. let it remain switched off, plug in your wall charger, and let it charge till it sais 100% (phone is still switched off). pull your battery (leave the charger plugged in), wait till it displays a question mark, put your battery back in, and let it charge to 100% again, thats it.

1) No I didn't, from what I read it is not recommended to use it as primary OS, it's still very experimental and camera is not working
2) Is it just about the percentage, or does it charge over 4100mV as well? Because if, as I think, it's just about showing 100%, but not really charging the bigger Defy+ battery, I'll just stick the way it is now, it's not healthy for the battery to leave it to fully die anyway
I would just like to clear a misunderstanding I've been seeing in more than just one thread.
The full charge of a Defy+ battery is around 4310 mV.
It is not around 4150 mV. My CM7.2 Nightly replaced with the latest battd from stock build charges perfectly till 100%. But its voltage level is 4160 mV, which is NOT 100%.
Please monitor the voltages for the correct reading, not just the percentages.
okay, my maximum is 4176mV and 84%. nothing more.
battery monitor widget see battery capacity 1650mAh, which is plus minus correct
edit: cm72-111213.. (with changed camera.apk, overlay.omap3.so from [] AL [] and battd from cm72-111223

For me, although with this battery bug, this ROM is way much better and smoother than the stock. I have been using CM rom back from the old days (on different brand of handphones), and hardly can replace it. With so many power sources around, I can live with this 80% bug.

Why don't you make a list of each rom you want to try, then take the time to flash each one and run each for about a week. Since battery life and performance is directly related to each users set up and personal style of use. This way in about 4 or 5 weeks you can actually make a determination on your own as to what is best for you.

Sorry, but no. I had only just started to charge, lolz... The phone was literally charging for less than 30 seconds, then I posted the screenshot ^^

In the middle of the graph, it goes from red all the way up to ~85%. The green bar below the graph also shows how long it's been charging which is DEFINITELY not 30 seconds.
best battery life is very subjective to the user. and remember that the display on this phone is power hungry to say the least. i hope that very soon all phones will come out with non removable batteries. people that need extra power can carry a portable power pack instead of an extra battery. and for those who complain about the longevity of the battery have obviously never used a phone with built in battery or done their research and are simply relying on that crutch of being able to swap the battery just because they can.
WOW...anyway....my point when i started this was that no one can tell you what works best for you...you have to figure that out on your own.

You'll be surprised, I had only just plugged it in, just then. But never mind, we're not here to argue, are we?

So your phone magically regained battery life?
You can clearly see the green charging bar in the middle, not to mention the fact that battery graphs don't go up by themselves.
I was using BlackICE 37 w/ the newest Air Kernel for a while and was experiencing some really good battery life!
I then tried Slim ROM with the same kernel and the battery life was ok...I'm now using the Samurai Kernel and I'm liking it!
Sorry no screenshots, but I have had 17hrs at 50% (about 7hrs were standby cuz I was asleep and didn't plug my phone in to charge over night!)
I'm on AOKP and Franco kernel its pretty good for me, I'm not getting 36 hours a charge but its better than put of the box.

That's okay, neither is the person that claimed they were.

The purpose of this thread is not just to help me in finding a rom that will give me some battery life but is also an opportunity to compare various types of rom + kernel in circulation as there are significant combinations of these do not take it as a joke but I think the comparison is the best solution to see what can be achieved with this device best regards

No I'm sorry if you took my comment as being strong, I was just trying to give you and whomever else some advice. Yes people can share what they like and what combinations they are using but again each users setup and each users personal style of utilizing their phone will be the final determining factor as to what is best for them. Did not take this thread as a joke at all.

is in fact what I would do with this thread is to gather a bit 'of screen and then publish them on the start page so as to assist new users in selecting the ROM according to their needs, then of course every result will be based on usage of 'but if you can get many statistics can make an average of everyone!

[Urgent] Irregular charging problem!

I'm having a very peculiar charging problem with my Note 2.
I should disclose, I'm using my S3's charger since I've misplaced mine. So I'm using a 1A charger instead of the higher capacity 2A Note 2 charger. But that still doesn't give any reason for this to happen.

As you can see in the last 3 grids (1 grid = 1 hour), my Note 2 charged from around 22% to 100%. That's 78% in 3 hours.
Then today:
Check out the last 4 grids. That's actually my phone on CHARGE! Barely 5% in 4 hours, and you can see how inconsitant the graph is!
What could be wrong??
I'm on Paranoid Android and Neak Kernel. But I remember having this problem even when I was on stock kernel, I thought flashing another one would fix this but it didn't.
Try a different cable.....though that doesn't explain the fast charging....either way, try it. I was so surprised by how different they can be.

I've tried different cables and entire chargers too. Happened again last night. Around 12 hours of charging, 6 to 35 percent.
Please help me debug this!

Similar problem here - some days my Note 2 will charge, other days it won't charge at all (doesn't even register as charging).
No obvious reason for this. Tried 4 different leads, 2 different batteries and 3 different kernels. Sometimes charging is fine, other times, no charging.
I've had to buy an external battery charger from eBay...
I have the slow charge issue if the cabke is curled up but if I lay cable out flat (no loops) it charges very fast. Not sure why it makes a difference but it does for me.

Whoa. This is weird then. My only last hope was trying a 2A charger but I guess it'll give the same results
Guys I have the same problem with all kernels available. I can say only with perseus kernel the problem can be solved. With need the options: ignore safety margins and ignore 100 ma for safe chip. With that two options the phone just charge as fast like 1500 ma. The battery will charge conpketely with 2.5 hrs.

Do you have STweaks installed? Try to do some adjustment to the "power" section and see if it helps.
I'll try those settings out. While we're on the battery topic, can someone recommend some ROM+Kernel (and settings) which give great battery life? PA+Neak is disappointing :/
Application Name?

I'm having the exact same problem on just a rooted stock rom, 4.1.2. Could I have the name of this battery monitor app so I can graph my charging rate too? I'm interested in what is going on.
Looks like it is Battery Monitor Widget (pro) from 3C, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ccc71.bmw.pro

The fix is using perseus kernel and ticking the options says "ignore unstable power".
It used to charge at 600, now it charges at 1700..

Do you know where to get this kernel/guide to install it? I'm still a bit of a noob with the whole android rooting scene.
Thanks!

Hmm it says Perseus Kernel is not a stock Kernel. I'm using Paranoid Android so I can't use it I guess?
Is there something like this in NEAK kernel?
