I just got the S4, an upgrade to my old LG G2X. Just had a question.
On my G2X, I had it stock rooted and somehow was able to modify permissions for each app from the settings. I would click on the app and scroll down to the bottom and see all the permissions for the app. I could tap each permission individually and it put a white line through the permission disabling it. I don't remember if it was app or kernel or something that aloud me to that and trying find if someone knows what I am talking about and if it would work for the S4?

You can do that using root explorer or rom toolbox. Change apps permissions to different settings if that's what you mean.

I've recently flashed my phone to use the SRF 1.2. I love this ROM, however it removed the stock alarm clock app. I really enjoyed using the stock alarm clock especially for its 'smart alarm' among various other option it came with. I know that there are plenty of great alarm apps out there but does anyone know how to get the original stock alarm back on the SRF 1.2 ROM?
Thanks in advance!
I love the stock alarm! the easy wake feature that brings peaceful music before the real alarm is tities

Thanks for your quick response! I've downloaded the app directly onto my phone and tried installing but it gave me an 'Application not installed' error. Do you have it's not letting me install this app?
I've also tried copy-paste into the system/app folder using the Root Explorer. However, since the folder is a read-only folder I was unable to paste it in. Is this what you meant by "push it to system/app"?
Also, do you know if this app comes with the original ringtones?
When you use root explorer, you need to switch permissions to read-write (rw). Then push to system/apps. There is a little grey botton on the top in root explorer, select it so it says rw.

Oh good info.
Do we/is there a thread that has a list of the stock apps for quick/easy downloading?

Thank you for the instructions. I was able to install it on my SRF 1.2 ROM. However, for some reason, it didn't have the Smart Alarm feature and was also missing most of the original alarm sounds. Does anyone have any idea on how to get these and to retrieve the Smart Alarm feature?
(Not a direct solution to your problem...) I know I was a bit heartbroken over losing the stock clock but I found a recommendation somewhere to try Alarm Clock Plus. I like it, so while you figure this out, you might give it a shot. It has some good and similar features. Not perfect but a good alarm clock app.

You aren't by any chance talking about the eclair clock, are you? The one on froyo is different than the one from eclair. What were you on before you flashed syndicate 1.2?

I like the slide unlock feature, but I would like to change the secondary (camera) option. Any way to make it a different app?
Yes and No.
Yes, if you are rooted, you can use a custom ROM that permits this. I am a CodeName Adroid user and you can set multiple 'targets' on the lockscreen that point to whatever app you like. You can also just change the one camera shortcut to point to something else. I am sure that many other ROMs allow for this too!
No, if you are not rooted. I'm not 100% sure on this, but there are no apps or command lines that allow you to change it without being rooted first!
My advice? Try CodeName Android as a new ROM. It's awesome!
Bummer. Thanks for the info!

you can use widget locker to do this, but it replaces the lock screen.
So I make an app folder on the home screen to contain several apps. each time after I tap and open an app from the folder, the app willopen. After I close the app and return to the home screen, the folder remains open. I have to tap the back key or tap somewhere else to make the folder close. Is there a setting to make the folder close each time I tap and open an app in it?

Oic thx.
The only way I was ever able to get around this common annoyance that seems like it's easily fixed by the OEM... was to install 'Folder Locker' on my Note 1 and I also had it on my EVO 3D.
Hi guys.
So i manged to remove the camera shortcut from the lockscreen using sqlite.
1. settings storage
1.1 settings.db
1.2 system
1.3 (search for) short and you will find "set_shortcuts_mode"
1.4 change the value to 0 and camera goes away.
Any idea on how to remove the phone?

Different apps, no and no 2 or 3 does nothing tried.
Can you explain more how you did this?
Can you edit the build.prop file to do the same thing?
In the lockscreen setting with MM you can take camera off and put any app in that spot. maybe the call too.
I don't think you can remove call button due to emergencies. Which is actually a good idea. Granted anything can be done using root and modifying framework files.

After flashing stock marshmallow through odin on sprint SM-N910P "thethring and wifi hotspot" option disappeared from the menu i have tried every other possible solution out there on the web but same result any help would be greatly appriciated.
I also have a question.
I'm on stock 5.1.1 and Tethering and Wifi Hotspot don't seem to work for me. I can enable Wifi Hotspot on phone but the device is not discoverable by other devices. Does this have something to do with Tethering and Hotspot being locked by the carrier?

same boat here. I've tried ##DATA# and installed tx_ hotspot mod, but still couldn't get hotspot back. Please help.
I formatted data and system, restored an old backup, got the toggle and settings back... they disappeared again so I repeated the steps and the they didn't come back again.
for now, a (dirty) workaround is:
1. install Activity Launcher from Google Play
2. change the menu to All Activities
3. scroll down to Settings and tap it
4. scroll down to Hotspot and long-press it
5. tap Create Shortcut
you will now have access to the normal Hotspot settings from your home screen where you can enable/disable/adjust it.
Activity Launcher will need to stay installed but it's a vey small app and you can hide it from your App Drawer.

You my man is a savior!
I lost mine from installing xposed module which created the csc features. I can rename the feature.xml to .bak and get the hotspot setting back but I will lose some features from the xposed module.

If I leave the feature.xml that the module created, the hotspot in settings disappear. If I delete/rename the feature.xml and reboot the hotspot setting reappears. The module I used is wanam mm module in xposed.

using ES note editor, I see a few entries relevant to hotspot/tether around 80% down the list, and there was one other about mid list. I don't have an advanced text tool handy for searching so im doing it old school lol
@wanam any ideas what might be causing this?

I was messing around with this and switch menu_off to menu_on but no go.
<CscFeature_Wifi_ConfigMenuStatusForHotspot20>DEFAULT_ON,MENU_OFF</CscFeature_Wifi_ConfigMenuStatusForHotspot20>
Didn't want to mess around to much in there. Your method will do for now.
