Hello,
I've been a registered user for a while now, but haven't tried to post until today. When I try to post a message containing a URL, I receive the following error:
"To prevent spam to the forums, new users are not permitted to post outside links in their messages. All new user accounts will be verified by moderators before this restriction is removed"

Can one of the moderators please verify my account?
Thanks!

As far as I know, you will need a # of post (more than 5 I think) before you are allow to insert a link in any thread. I'm not a mod, but I read about this somewhere in this site : If I'm wrong, maybe a mod can correct me with this one
Have a look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=636765 and here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=626993.
Yep, need something like 5 to 10 posts for links.
Hmm, ok, thanks. I just wanted to post a URL to my new project and gather some feedback, but I guess I'll have to lurk around longer and find some other stuff to comment on.
In the same boat as you.
But i guess its better than page on page with spam from bots
Yes, after a few posts the system and Moderators can see whether you are a genuine member or not.
In the meantime you can use links like this:
wwwdotxda-developers.com
You can always go back later and put in working links.

Had a look at your thread, posted comments, and the site; all seems in order.
As a courtesy, I have changed the links for you ... with an understanding that you will do your best to keep the thread active and help out members who post it in as best you can.
Cheers,
I cant write on nexus forum
I just wrote a "best contract deals" post for the HTC Desire, and discovered I can't post links yet ARG! So I have it saved in notepad until I've made a few more small comments like this to get enough posts to post links
Damn, I've got to wait 5 mins between posts too

As stated earlier, this process has been setup to combat spammers. I believe once you have more than 8-10 posts, this restriction is removed

What are the chances these rules can be adjusted so they aren't ridiculously frustrating? I can't post or edit my own posts without waiting 5 minutes, I can't post images or even quote images posted by other users. I've been viewing these boards everyday since I joined (about a week ago) and it's making the transition to participating VERY obnoxious

Sorry about the issues, we all had to go through it at one point. Since XDA is such a large and popular site we have been a big target for spam, so to make sure the boards arent full of ads and spam we have to make the rules a little strict. its only for 10 or so posts.

I believe you will now be out of the "initial" group, as you have 5 posts. Within the next 1 or 2 posts, it should be finished
I know that this is an old thread but I really want to post thanks to certain individuals or post in discussion forums but due to this restriction it means I'm having to spend a lot longer on the XDA site just to post what I wanted to. For instance even this post took me an extra 4 minutes...
Hi,
I just wanted to reedit a comment because a tag was missing and it said that I have to wait 2 minutes before I am allowed to do another posting.
Well, I didn't want to do another posting, I just wanted to edit an already posted comment.
Maybe this could be fixed easily...
Thanks
Rebista
Came here to try to find just the same answer. It's just editing, 2 minutes is too long to wait for something like that!
But I understand what the reasons may be. What amount of post will take this away?
thanks in advance
I would have expected you to be beyond that point now with more than 10 posts, but perhaps there are new restrictions on junior members, which should end at 30 posts when you become members.

Thanks!

Nope. Already tried, is instantly done.
Okay, so free edits come with 30 posts ...
As it just happens this very post now is my 30th post
What an unusual solution. Post in this forum and through the very act of posting everything is taken care of
lol
Just came in here to comment about the very same thing. I can understand limiting the amount of posts new users can make within a given period (helps prevent spam)....but editing a post should be excluded from this limit.

I think it's allright and something you can live with, for 30 posts. They say in their FAQ that limiting posts is the only way to control spammers (well, one of their ways) and chaos.
30 is NOT that much, when I came to this thread I tought I was to find some limit of 100 posts and THAT would be annoying.
If you plan to stay in the community, 30 posts are ok and 2 minutes are bearable. Just MY opinion
woah 30post until edit???
now isnt that like tooo much??

No, there is a 2 minute time limit between post and edit until you reach 30 posts. You can edit before 30 posts, you just have to wait a bit.
Think about what you write before clicking Submit. Use the advanced edit mode and the Preview button. Make sure you have furnished enough information in your post to help people answer your questions.
If you have any other questions, please read this guide.
I don't have any complaining about it ( I'm new junior member) cause its much nicely read and post to the good forum ( some boobs don't read and follow xda's rules)

I came to this thread via google. Shouldn't this info be in some FAQ?
I have no idea why this faq http://forum.xda-developers.com/faq.php is not linked anywhere for people to go clicky.
Conspiracy theories:
It's almost like they don't want users to find the faq.
They assumed users won't read it anyway.
They are lazy.
/runs for cover.
There's too many restrictions at xda, I mean yea they got a lot of helpful tools, but come on...but whatever...lol

I have joined in December but do not post much. I need to wait five minutes before I can even edit my posts. I understand that the moderators had to go through a horrible time before issuing this kind of hard firewall but blocking edit seems kinda unnecessary because u can't effectively spam by editing a post repeatedly but u can spam a single poster effectively using PM. I think PM should be restricted to perhaps once per day for new members and edit allowed.
What do u people think? I do not have much to share so how can I make enough valid posts? Sometimes I make a careless mistake in a post and have to wait five minutes to let everybody see my mistake.
So, should I just start spamming threads?

The edit restrictions stop at your 30th post when you go from Junior Member to Member.
PM's aren't really an issue, but spam definitely is.
You can post in your device's General, Q&A, Accessories, and Themes and Apps forums, surely you can find something to share if you desire it strongly enough to open a new thread about it?
I would advise using Advanced edit mode and the Preview button.
I know you were joking, but I would advise against spamming threads or else you may find your posts deleted and a PM from a mod in your inbox.
If people want to contribute, they will find a way.
About spamming, you totally missed my point. I was not being serious, but I was not joking either. I was just pointing out that the very rule to prevent spam may encourage flood of useless (not technically spam) posts from new members just to raise post count. That would prevent them from being verified though.
Also, the official rules are clearly mentioned in proper place and I am not interested in challenging them if they are justified. I was asking for personal opinion of experienced people whether it really is necessary to block edit to prevent spam. I am not a moderator and have not managed spam in life and have little idea about the measures necessary to control them. This is no accusation thread just an opinion thread.
Edit: I am eager to contribute and will do so as soon as I find something I can contribute.
I think we users should have the right of getting at least a basic explanation. If you are eager to provide official response, kindly explain the reason. I have been in several forums with new user restrictions (including PM restrictions) but never this. Things obviously can be different here I do not know I just found this annoying and could not guess any necessity for it. That is why I posted. I will be more careful with errors while posting in future. Besides, people here seem to be tolerant to mistakes.

I may be wrong about this but I believe that VB considers editing a post to be the same as actually making a completely new post. If you see what I mean....
Therefore the time restriction between making individual posts also applies to editing posts.
I have 25 posts. I STILL am forced to wait 2 minutes before I am allowed to edit a post. If I haven't proved after 25 posts that I am not a troll or a spammer, how many posts will it take?

I don't understand why we have to wait 2 minutes before we're allowed to edit a post. I completely understand the 2 minute restriction on making new posts or threads but making us wait 2 minutes to fix a typo or attach more information to a post baffles me.

It is for spam control so people could not edit in links afterwards. I believe it is because the 2 minute restrictions are being applied to all junior members, and it is not possible for this attribute to be distinguished between junior members with 9 posts or 19 posts or 29 posts. Once you become a member with 30 posts, posting restrictions are lifted. It also could make people proofread a bit better before they click submit...
First of all, I love this forum, It's been teaching me how-to-Android very well and I'm grateful for that.
But please tone down the annoying restrictions, let me at least EDIT my post without a 5min timer.
Also captcha every time (well, every 5 minutes to be exact) is painful to me, I have limited vision and I have to zoom and get close to the monitor to read a captcha.
Believe me I'm not a bot, rest assured I'm not here to do any harm, just to read and help when I can.

Welcome to XDA Developers. Sorry for the restrictions, but as you've guessed, they are SPAM prevention measures.
I believe some of the restrictions will be lifted after making 10 meaningful posts. That's the requirement to be able to post in developer forums as well however, developer forums are also intended for the developers.

I don't want to sound wrong (like angry or arrogant) but I don't care about the developer forums, I didn't register here aiming to post there, in fact I'm not a developer I wouldn't have anything useful to post there even if I could. Just want to say that I'm not those types that just want to rush ten posts to spam that particular forum.
Guess I will stick with the Thanks button, no captcha and no waiting time as far I noticed.

You know, everybody is passed by this filter system.
Therefore it's useless to grumble, be patient and you will see that soon you will be able to post everywhere
Post replies in ot thread and after several posts you are able to do all things...
(Off topic is just a timepass thread)
I believe your motives are benevolent, but you have to understand how many registers this site gets daily, and how many bots and spammers do try to get in, as well as people with nothing intelligent to post attempting to metastasize throughout the forums. These restrictions are not aimed at you personally, and if the mods cherry picked every user they thought might not need them instead of letting said user go through annoyance for ten posts, then they would be wasting valuable time.
Just keep at it my friend, your persistence will pay off; only 4 more posts to go!
We're rooting for you
