[Q] TWRP doesn't allow moving files on Note 2? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

I finally made the jump from my OG4G to the Note 2, but am perplexed about something...
On the EVO, while in TWRP I could hit a "button" and my PC would recognize the phone so I could move files back and forth. I can't seem to find that in TWRP 2501 on the Note 2...
Have I lost my digital mind, or is it unavailable on this phone?

Ya we don't have that ability

To be honest, for me and it's not a huge deal simply because I transfer all the files that I know I'm going to flash to the phone beforehand. Yes it would be a nice feature, but not a huge deal.

I can copy and move files in TWRP. I can even install a ROM.
But from a USB thumb or my 1TB drive. I have never tried from my PC.
The copy and move actions are under the bottom left tile. Sorry I do not remember the tile's name. It isn't easy, so I only do it when I screw up.

(APP) Move large apps to external SD. Works great!

Hey peeps. I finally got fed up running out of storage and went searching for something to fix it. Modern combat 3 takes up 1.4 gigs and Nova takes even more. With this app I can move their external data to the external SD card freeing up more room for more games.
I didn't create this app, just wanted to let people know about it. Remember you need to use the app to open these games once you move their data, otherwise they will just re download their files again.
Feel free to ask me any questions and I'll try and help if I can.

Good. Should work fine. I noticed a couple times it wouldn't launch asphalt 7 so I checked the setting to clear cache when launching a game and that seems to have fixed it. Let me know if there are any other issues you run into.

The one I posted does more than game loft games as well. You can add any application that allows the installation of data to external cards. But whatever. Choices are good.

Back to Samsung

Guys I'm looking to bring my phone to Samsung to ask them to change some faulty components for me.
I've unlocked and rooted my phone.
So I saw that by locking my Gnex again. All my internal storage will be lost? Does that me all my titanium backups as well as my Cwm backups?
How do you guys deal with this?
Previously on my gs2. I just had to backup to my external sd card.
Anyone have any ideas?
Much appreciated
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Last time I unrooted an factory reset I just copyed all clockwork backups to one folder on SD card(virtual) as we don't have a external one. And then just copyed it all over to my laptop. Once ready just re-root phone copy/paste all files back and ur golden..
at least that worked for me.
Heaven tried on titanium files tho
Cheers

You're gonna want to take all of your personal data off before you factory reset and set it all back to stock anyways.
Takes ages to transfer backups over doesn't it. So long that it crashes. What do you mean by virtual drive?

The Galaxy Nexus doesn't have a physical SDcard. It has a "virtual" spot that acts like an SDcard. Your files are stored there, that's where you need to take your stuff from and put on your computer. If USB transfer isn't working. Put it on WiFi & stuff them all on Dropbox or use an FTP app.
My main concern is the pad lock on the boot screen. Is there anyway to remain on my flashed rom and remove the unlocked sign? Cause i just wanna do some over the counter exchange.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Don't think so.
The lock signifies u unlocked the boot loader(90%) sure bout that.
And u cant stay on a custom ROM with it locked. Unless someone found a way around it.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Someone has to find a way! My god it's quite trouble some to move them big files.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Also. If u think that the store won't be able to the the diff between u being unlocked or not. U can get "logo me" from market and change the unlocked pad lock to a pic if a locked one. So phone is still rooted unlocked but looks stock in boot process

There's an app called BootUnlocker that let's you lock and unlock your phone within android without losing root.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
You don't have to take it to Samsung you could always take it to a 3rd party phone repairer that deals with Samsung phones an doesn't care if its rooted.
Yea, its a bit pricy but worth it IMO. I paid for it and love the customization.
If u have a bit of time on or hands, u can try looking thru or system.apk file. I think its also in there but I'm not 100% on that.
Use root explorer or any other explorer and go to system/app/ and pull or system apk. Put it on or PC or laptop.
Open it with 7zip (right click , open archive. DO NOT EXTRACT) then go to red/drawable. And in the xhdpi folder look thru the pics. I believe one of them is the boot logo lock.
I'd give u exact paths and file names but I dont have my laptop on me right now.
Hope this helps

I find the most reliable way to backup your entire /sdcard contents is via ADB. I can't recall the exact syntax that works but it's so much better than trying to make it work by MTP...
adb pull /sdcard sdcard possibly? Or some variation of that. And then it just starts copying en masse, and you leave it for whatever 25-50 minutes it requires, and then you're all backed up. Restoring by adb push works well too.
If the pull gets interrupted or messed up in any way while booted into the OS, you can try again while booted into CWM Recovery. Careful when pushing entire directories back via CWM - sometimes this can leave you with messed up permissions and then you will be unable to edit/delete/create files in some places. More info about how to fix that in this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22970837&postcount=14
But yeah once you backup your entire internal storage, including whatever nandroid backup you need to get back to your custom setup, you can flash it all clear back to wiped stock without any concern of data loss.

I don't think they were on the sd card because in my gallery i can see two different types of folders one says camera and the other one says camera with a lil pic of an sd card on it and they got deleted from the first folder
If you're rooted you can use Hexamob Recovery or Undelete For Root Users. Otherwise search the Play Store for file recovery apps, but there's a chance you have to be rooted for one to work.

The longer you wait, the more likely you won't be able to recover. Those areas they were stored may get written over again. Just try. At this point it seems you have nothing to lose.

I think that's what I just said.
If you do need root for any of the recovery apps, install exynos abuse (found in these threads). It's a quick apk install and a quick button click to gain root. I just hope installing yet one more app doesn't write over those sectors. Perhaps as a last resort.

Folder with contents that won't delete

Hey all. I've been busting my brain, downloading different file managers, playing with permissions and whatnot trying to delete a couple folders left over from Skynote Rom.There's a folder named "Z" on my internal storage that won't go away. That folder houses the sky note wallpapers and an LMT pie launcher apk. Its in two spots on my internal storage and neither will delete. Though it doesn't take up much memory, its annoying to see 3 skynote wallpaper galleries in my photo gallery every time.
Is there a way to delete these items through some file manager I've yet to try or maybe even through recovery mode? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

In your CM explorer app...open settings and enable root mode.
then dump the files you want gone..
Be careful in there....the CM file manager will allow deletion of "any" file within the OS, while root mode is enabled....g

Are you saying you cannot write to the SD card with apps like OfficeSuite Pro or the camera or just that the system will not install and run programs from the SD card?
If an application is designed to save its files to the card in a folder created by said application, then yes. If the application cannot create a folder on the card, then no. That is a quick explanation.

I bet they fix that one quick.
BTW - When I went to KitKat on some of my other tabs all I had to do was reinstall the same apps (same versions) and they worked fine. The reinstall did something that made them work fine. Out of several hundred apps it was only a handful.

Is this only for 10.1 2014 with KK? Because I dont think this is KK related as Chromecast works for my Note 3 with SinLess KK ROM.
can someone quickly elaborate about extSD card issue
I've been able to grab small tid bits here and there.
does that mean that I can't store data, or that apps that for example fpse use ext sd for rom storage will no longer be able to use extSd ??
Sd card will work pretty much like on pre-Android, pre-Symbian phones.
Only good for media files, which must be stored via a pc, not say, loaded with the tablet from a nas.
Probably pics and vids taken with the Note can be saved on the card.
They force all more sophisticated users to root. Others, who enjoy being submitted to rules, even silly ones, and miss Adolf, are already using iOS and WP anyway.

Hey glad I caught this thread on time. So since you're on kitkat, you are unable to turn your device around 180 degrees. And that pretty much renders all cases useless for the typing position UNLESS you buy Samsung's pricey case that can fold without having you turn the device.
