Back to Samsung - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Guys I'm looking to bring my phone to Samsung to ask them to change some faulty components for me.
I've unlocked and rooted my phone.
So I saw that by locking my Gnex again. All my internal storage will be lost? Does that me all my titanium backups as well as my Cwm backups?
How do you guys deal with this?
Previously on my gs2. I just had to backup to my external sd card.
Anyone have any ideas?
Much appreciated

Last time I unrooted an factory reset I just copyed all clockwork backups to one folder on SD card(virtual) as we don't have a external one. And then just copyed it all over to my laptop. Once ready just re-root phone copy/paste all files back and ur golden..
at least that worked for me.
Heaven tried on titanium files tho
Cheers

You're gonna want to take all of your personal data off before you factory reset and set it all back to stock anyways.

Takes ages to transfer backups over doesn't it. So long that it crashes. What do you mean by virtual drive?

The Galaxy Nexus doesn't have a physical SDcard. It has a "virtual" spot that acts like an SDcard. Your files are stored there, that's where you need to take your stuff from and put on your computer. If USB transfer isn't working. Put it on WiFi & stuff them all on Dropbox or use an FTP app.

My main concern is the pad lock on the boot screen. Is there anyway to remain on my flashed rom and remove the unlocked sign? Cause i just wanna do some over the counter exchange.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app

Don't think so.
The lock signifies u unlocked the boot loader(90%) sure bout that.
And u cant stay on a custom ROM with it locked. Unless someone found a way around it.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium

Someone has to find a way! My god it's quite trouble some to move them big files.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app

Also. If u think that the store won't be able to the the diff between u being unlocked or not. U can get "logo me" from market and change the unlocked pad lock to a pic if a locked one. So phone is still rooted unlocked but looks stock in boot process

There's an app called BootUnlocker that let's you lock and unlock your phone within android without losing root.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium

You don't have to take it to Samsung you could always take it to a 3rd party phone repairer that deals with Samsung phones an doesn't care if its rooted.

Yea, its a bit pricy but worth it IMO. I paid for it and love the customization.
If u have a bit of time on or hands, u can try looking thru or system.apk file. I think its also in there but I'm not 100% on that.
Use root explorer or any other explorer and go to system/app/ and pull or system apk. Put it on or PC or laptop.
Open it with 7zip (right click , open archive. DO NOT EXTRACT) then go to red/drawable. And in the xhdpi folder look thru the pics. I believe one of them is the boot logo lock.
I'd give u exact paths and file names but I dont have my laptop on me right now.
Hope this helps

I find the most reliable way to backup your entire /sdcard contents is via ADB. I can't recall the exact syntax that works but it's so much better than trying to make it work by MTP...
adb pull /sdcard sdcard possibly? Or some variation of that. And then it just starts copying en masse, and you leave it for whatever 25-50 minutes it requires, and then you're all backed up. Restoring by adb push works well too.
If the pull gets interrupted or messed up in any way while booted into the OS, you can try again while booted into CWM Recovery. Careful when pushing entire directories back via CWM - sometimes this can leave you with messed up permissions and then you will be unable to edit/delete/create files in some places. More info about how to fix that in this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22970837&postcount=14
But yeah once you backup your entire internal storage, including whatever nandroid backup you need to get back to your custom setup, you can flash it all clear back to wiped stock without any concern of data loss.

Help restoring data

Hey thanks to all reading this. I have a problem extracting data from an old phone, sorry if this is in wrong section I'm using an s3 so came here. Situation is had s2 and dropped in water. Phone works but screen doesn't. I think it works in some spots but not enough for me to get the SD to work. When its plugged in I see the drive disappear instantly so can't get file. The file I need is a PDF I downloaded months back. It saved to my phones drive. Im not having much luck with adb and not sure I even know where to look for the PDF. I was able to view it using adobe reader. I have a nandroid but dunno where to look for his PDF. I am on a twrp recovery so kinda screw ed there and screen cast a no go. Anyone know where to look in nandroid browser for a PDF downloaded to phone mem? Any ideas are appreciated thx so much

You could try airdroid, connect to your phone wirelessly from your pc and browse files on it, then just download from phone to pcs
Wait a minute, sorry, you said you cant see the screen very much so how you gonna be able to down load an app ... duh my bad.
Ya the screen is completely black. Sound works and some background stuff but can't see anything and not sure what works

Does adb recognize the device? If so its just a matter of reading through adb for dummies (will try and find a link) to get the right command.
Or pm EarlyMon. I bet he knows the cmd

I havent tried adb too much I'm not sure if its picking it up or not, I have all the latest components but might need older ones. When I do try adb it dosent detect anything so far. Not even the s3 so not ruling it out yet. I'm so desperate I'm thinking about restoring the nandroid to s3 and see what happens. The file I need is my medical license without it I'm f'd. Its a hassle to get a new one, so much so I'm going thru this headache. About to chuck this thing

Help can't flash new roms on T-mobile s3!!!!

Hi I might have erased something on my phone. I have flashed roms before but something must have gone wrong. I flashed a cm10 rom and it messed my folders up by creating a folder on the phones memory (I forgot what it was called)I tried moving the folders out of it because my files looked ok and something happened where it erased my external 64gb and crashed my phone( it became unresponsive when trying to move the data to my pc. I flashed the stock rom using odin and it took ok I rerooted and installed twrp and tried to flash different roms but they all stay at the boot screen. Wierd thing is I can restore/backup just fine. i just can't install custom roms. I also saw something that i never noticed before in my folders on the phones internal memory I will provide a pic. Are those usb folders normal ? I can't access them though. Someone please help what can I do to be able to flash roms again? Also before anyone mentions it I tried with clockwork same issue.

Flash new ROM. Factory reset.
Yeah, I think I know what's happening, enter the sdcard folder, and if you see a folder in there called "0", all of your stuff should be there. This happened to me while using CM10.

That's what happens on cm10.1 just look in your 0 folder.

Thanks for the help guys yes i'm Puerto Rican and I already knew about the 0 folder issue and the work around (i do look at this site quite frequently but don't post much because i look before posting) but the problem happened when i tried to move the items from that folder to my pc. The fact is it just stopped transfering files completely my phone shut off it erased my external 64gb sd card and it pretty much corrupted the internal storage thank god i was able to factory reset with odin. However even after i factory reset with odin i couldnt flash roms. Thats why i posted this thread, and also to make sure that those usb folders were normal (which i found out were normal to see) Reflashed Odin factory rom 3 times in a row and that seemed to clear up the issue. Like i said thanks for all the help and sorry if it seemed like i was noobing. :good:

Model number is galaxy nexus?

My phone model number says galaxy nexus. But I know it's SGH-T999. is this a build prop thing?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
It can be, did you flash a Google Wallet zip?
Yup. Is that why?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
I personally don't use Google Wallet, but I'm pretty sure we have to edit the build.prop to make it install. I think you can change it back afterwards.
Thanks it doesn't bother me. Just curious

Be advised that Mobile Odin can brick you if you don't change it back (it works differently because it thinks you have a different phone). TriangleAway may also.

Just go back into root file explorer, you should start at root ( "/" )
Go one folder up, then find "system", go into that folder
Next, mount the folder "read/write" by clicking the small icon in the upper right hand corner
Scan to make sure you see BOTH
build.prop
and
build.prop.bak
If you do, then delete the "build.prop" (NOT the one with .bak)
Then, once that is deleted, rename the build.prop.bak to build.prop
Then reboot into recovery, clear cache / clear Dalvik cache and reboot. You'll be back to normal.
I know it might not bother you, however you will find that some apps force close sometimes for no reason - it's because they've been "optimized" for the Galaxy Nexus build when you're phone is running different hardware.
It's good to put it back to the proper build - it will "optimize" again when you first reboot (it will say "Android is Upgrading")
aaaand you'll be back to normal. It will not affect Wallet as long as you've already set it up
Thank you guys. Great help

[Q] S Note Sync Loss Data

I did factory reset and setup everything from scratch again.
I just noticed that when I sync the S Note from Samsung Account, only some latest notes got sync, while the older are gone. Is there limit capacity for Samsung account S Note?
There isn't.
Welcome to the world of Samsung.
Where nothing is supposed to work as said.

So, what is the best and more safe way to backup the snotes? Dropbox or something else? Did anyone use dropbox fro backing up snotes? It may backup one by one or all together? Any proposal for this matter?
I did restore few times before and successful. Just this one fail me.

Απ: [Q] S Note Sync Loss Data
Thanks for the tip. And when I need to restore I just copy back this folder to thw phone memory? Do you know if this method keeps except the files also the folders and general all my creations (drawings, memos etc)?
Yep everything created with s note is stored there. Just move that folder back and forth roms.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
I don't trust S-Note at all, one time I opened it and it said syncing, it then proceeded to delete one of my notes. Samsung support said they will look into it but have'nt heard anything further. Now I back up my snote folder regularly just in case.

Sorry, my english are not perfect. What do you mean with "and forth roms"?
I mean if I wipe internal memory as well while flashing and then copy over my s note folder to a different rom then it works perfectly.

In theory yes but unless u know what ur doing it'll never happen, as its more than just moving files around, u need to know how to decompile and recompile because the data ur looking for can't just be moved around
