Full wipe to clear everything for 4.2.2 instal l? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

Question: I'm on a 4.1 Touchwiz rom (Macksrom) I've backed up all my pertinant data from my internal memory. Can I wipe data and internal memory and then flash fresh to remove all the duplicated data downstream in the 0 folder (created by 4.2 jellybean roms? Id like to just start fresh and run jellybean without all the extraneous touchwiz data.
Sorry, I'm going to flash the Rootbox Vanilla rom...love it. Just want to start fresh.
Is this possible? Any help appreciated.

If you do a full wipe your Google apps will not restore because you are removing the appdata in the data folder. If you're wanting to start fresh this is a great idea. I do it every so often because I flash so many ROMs.

how to wipe system

some roms ask that you wipe system as well as the normal things. ALl i see thats close to that is format system. is this what theyre talking about? i just wanna make sure before i do it in case it messes up my phone.
What recovery are you using? There should be options to wipe data/cache.

latest cwm
is that the same thing as wiping system cause it said to ipe data and cache then the dev seemed to make an effort to mention to wipe system too. heres the rom.

its cm9 kang
Format removes the partition, wiping all data, and creates a fresh system partition in it's place. I always choose format all(except sdcard) when switching ROMs that use a different base: I.e. GB to ICS, AOSP to SENSE, or even different sense versions(2.x to 3.0 or 3.5). If any doubt, just do a full wipe of cache and dalvik, then format all and you'll be safe.

[Q] Using Ti Backup from GB to ICS?

Sorry noob here but it's my understanding that I can't back up my App data and upgrade to ICS from GB, Is that correct? Is their anyway of updating to ICS and keep app data? I'm rooted and running Juggernaut ROM.
I believe most user apps and data can be restored from GB to ICS, just don't restore any system app, and keep in mind that some apps and games may not be compatible with ics and that's going to make the restoring batch get stuck, just keep that on mind

Will it Brick or Soft brick my phone if i redo a batch and it's not compatible do you know?
If you restore system apps or their app data, then it is likely, but if restored user apps have compatibility issues then you'll mostly get force closes.

quick reference
I do suggest referencing this post which has so far the best route if you're going your route. I have been able to upgrade and keep all the data using the stock upgrade in Kies for two other phones (not mine) and they have not had any issues.
I went the odin flash route and just want to remind you to wipe all the system partitions (I used Darkside SuperWipe) then flash Radio then flash ROM
hope that saves you some time.
Thanks Guys!!
Yeah, just hit batch and restore missing apps w/data. You'll be fine.

[Q] noob question on reflashing a rom

I flashed CM10 a week or so ago and I want to update to the newest version of cm10. How do I go about doing this? Is it as easy as I think? Download newest version, put it on sdcard, boot into recovery, and install from .zip or do I need to do something else? I'm sure this has been asked before l, sorry. Thanks for our help.
It's recommended to do a full wipe. Than flash the new update zip.

Does a full wipe consist of just booting into recovery and wipe cache partition, delvic cache etc.?

Anyone else know?
Preparation
Before doing the wipe, make sure you take the following precautionary steps:1. Perform a*Titanium backup*to ensure you have the latest versions of your apps saved. Its a good idea to save your internet bookmarks here too.2. Many apps have a backup/restore option so use this to back up your current settings (eg. JKay Deluxe settings, Go Launcher, Fancy Widgets, Simple Calendar etc.). Do this for such apps so that the settings can be easily restored later if required.3. Make a Nandroid backup through CWM Recovery.Be aware of any contacts with personalized ringtones etc. as these will have to be re-assigned after the wipe. There are apps on do download from the Play Store that can save these for you however.
Full Wipe
Boot into recovery
Wipe Data/factory reset
Wipe Cache
Wipe Dalvik-Cache
Wipe Battery Stats
Format /system

I would re download ROM and mods again. I'm now on 6.2 and no wifi notification notice.
Or it may be a modification causing it. I'm using 75% transparency, blue theme, and circle blue battery.

Maybe if you're doing a tibu restore there is something being restored from a previous backup.
Currently I'm running 6.2 (flashed 6 base then when .2 came out I only wiped caches and flashed)
Mods: new green circle battery, light saber s pen sounds.
Check the mods you have on your sd card maybe one of them are dated prior to the files that are on Sean's goo.im the naming could be throwing you off because I know that some of the mods are labeled as V3 but have been updated more than 2-3 times without actually changing the version number.

Update.......ok, i have cleaned my internal storage( as all my needed stuff on external)....i redownloaded 6.0 and update 6.2...
i wiped cache and system 3 times each, and installed base 6.0 with 6.2 update in same procedure.....
no other mods and none of my original apps restored..i have a basic system with just skynote 6.0 and 6.2 update on....but sadly still get the wifi connected message coming up ...
i must be doing something wrong..but what..lol..
any ideas??
Is it possible to get the AOSP 4.2 messaging / MMS with skynote ROM? They currently have a flash for AOSP version but it's missing the group messaging that is in the latest 4.2 version. This would eliminate the requirement for a third party app to use group messaging.

Not sure if you are doing the install correctly
Lets review...
You run a Titanium Backup backup [or other app based backup not talking nadroid here].
You restart to recovery
Wipe cache
Wipe Dalvick Cache
Go to Mounts and storage [CWM] and format /System AND /Data
You go back to main menu
You Flash the ROM
You Flash GApps Pack [there is a 2013.01.08 I have seen that is specifically for 4.2 and not 4.1 BTW]
You restart and let it boot and wait at least 5 min before touching the phone
You then download and install Titanium Backup Open it, grant root
Then you Restored ONLY User apps and data [be sure to NOT RESTORE ANY SYSTEM APPS OR DATA]
This should have you running fine if this is your process.
If you are using TWRP and used the advanced backup/Restore to restore only /data by unchecking the other stuff this WILL NOT WORK it will restore the original /data and anything new your new install placed in /data will be removed and prolly why there is a problem.
If this is the only type of backup you now hoave if you download titanium backup pro [like $6 USD] then it as an advanced option can read out things from a nandroid backup done by either TWRP or CWM and restore apps based on the data there and the only way you should restore from that back DO NOT use TWRP to restore /data.
Basically TWRP images the entire partition and just puts that back exactly as it found it before whereas runnin titanium installs the apps back WITHOUT affecting anything that is new and already present [unless its a user app that exists in the backup and was installed by the ROM then you may end up with an older version, but then if that does happen don't panic open market and go to my apps [open market hit menu key tap my apps] and it should list any and all updates based on what is currently installed and can then update the affected app maintaing your user data that was restored by the titanium restore process., but it should warn about newer and older apps I believe.
TWRP method is good, but only if using same exact ROM and you had an issue [you deleted something wrong and caused a problem or otherwise need the data back EXACTLY as it was before, and disregarding any changes since].
Ok I did all that besides the go to mount part in recovery an when I reinstalled my user apps an data I rebooted back into recovery after it sat for an 5-10 min

Do the mount part and format both /system and /data. After restore to be absolutely thorough if you restart to recovery then have it wipe cache and dalvick cache one more time [should not be needed but may help].
You should ALWAYS format /system [and cache and dalvick cache] when flashing ANY ROM [ be it a different one or an updated version] and you really should do /data as well; though as long as it is a compatible ROM [JB to a different JB for instance] you may not need to wipe /data, but if you notice odd issues not helped by usual fixes [like my Swype stopped using the user dictionary and re-installing the app completely did not help only re-flashing my ROM and being sure to wipe both /system and /data and re-building from ground up [re-downloading my apps via market>My Apps [swipe My Apps screen to the left and there is a list with EVERY app you ever downloaded in the order it was downloaded which can help] fixed it [usually happens about once every month-ish little issues build until I can't stand one and format /data on an install]. Kinda personal pref on that, but if moving to a New ROM you really should try to do a Titanium backup and still wipe /data as ROMs do install some things there.
Ok I'll do that an thanks
