I have my Xperia Arc (LT15a Rogers) running the LT15i Generic World (4.0.2.A.0.62) ROM, and with the imminent update to ICS 4.0.4 soon, I'm wondering how the update will work for my device.
Will running a different ROM from what it originally came with (Rogers-branded LT15a) affect my updating process? Or is it all dependent on the SI number under the battery? Also, is the update supposed to be OTA, or available through SEUS or something?
Can someone please help me? =S

Your phone only checks for updates for the version currently running on your phone. That aside, why would you wait for Rogers to release it when it likely won't be directly root-able (and since I assume you have a carrier-branded device, you can't unlock your bootloader except through the paid method to root) and won't be out for weeks.
The LT15a generic America ROM was released a few days ago, bloat-free and root-able. Use that.
(On a separate note, OTA is only for incremental updates. i.e. 2.x.x to 2.x.y, 2.k.m to 2.k.n, 4.0.w to 4.0.v, etc. Major updates between versions must be done through PC Companion.)

What was the final official Gingerbread ROM for North American Arc S from Sony before they switched to ICS earlier this year? I want to step back from ICS and check phones performance with the Gingerbread. Arc S still gets laggy with ICS.

As far as I know, it was Android 2.3.4. The build number is 4.0.2.A.0.62. This is the latest official GB release in Germany and it should be in the USA, too.

No, the last official release is build 4.0.2.A.0.69 but as far as I know it is not released worldwide (but nevermind, you can install it with no worries). You can find more info (and download link) here:

Thanks much folks. Just want to make sure that .69 is for LT18a not LT18i... I know you can flash it regardless but I want to try North American release....

You need ICS firmware aswell, ICS kernels work only on ICS firmware, GB kernels work only on GB firmware.

Don't mix Stock ICS Kernel 4.1.A.0.562(ICS 4.0.3) with 4.1.B.0.431 firmware i did the same mistake and i had the sony Logo appearing repeatly. to make your fone boot correctly just flash any kernel based on 4.1.B.0.431 (ICS4.0.4) with any ROM (stock or custom)based also on 4.1.B.0.431 only
Man, read a little bit the threads at Android Development.
Some roms, you don´t need to unlock your bootloader to install.
About battery, if you have good signal strengh, you only need to root your phone and remove bloatware (sony apps) and your battery will start to last. I use stock ICS 4.0.4 rom with Stock kernel, stock baseband, and my battery usually lasts from 24 to 48 hours.
I use a program called 'No Cpu Frills' and set my cpu to the minimum of 133mhz and to the maximum of 1024mhz, even my phone being an Arc S.
The rom you´re going to use depends more on what you want from your phone. Some roms are designed for games, others for business, others just for ego (lol) and etc...
We have many good Roms for Xperia Arc and Arc S here. Take some days and test them... only you can say for sure what is best for you.
I, for example, before getting back to stock, used a lot the IceBean 4.2 (It´s xperia S´ rom with modifications. Very sexy, indeed.)
Good luck on your quest... =)

If you have unlocked your boot loader you cant install OTA updates or any official Sony updates. To get official Sony update from PC Companion or Sony Update service or Over the air you need locked boot loader. To install official Sony firmware on a device with unlocked bootloader you need to have a tool called flashtool installed on your PC.
Has anyone with more abilities than me tried flashing Xperia S on Arc s Phone?
I know nothing about packing and unpacking kernels and systems...
But if it serves as a meter on my experiences, I've flashed all of Arcs Firmwares successfully, unlocked bootloader, Installed Custom firmwares on it, Cyanogenmod (4.1 and 4.2.2), P.a.c (4.2.2), MIUI. All sucessfully and used them for a long time.
As I know from friends that Arcs firmware can be flashed on Arc. Neo L firmware can be flashed onto the Xperia Play etc...
So would you know if with a little bit of tinkering Xperia S could be flashed on Arc S?
Or, if it is just bluberish?

Better not to try. You might hard brick your device. That means, that your device will be unrecoverable.

Hi guys,
I am getting my new Xperia Style tomorrow. People say it is just the T-Mobile Version of the T3. Can I savely Flash it with the newest T3 Firmware D5103_18.1.A.2.25 to debrand it and have it as a "real" T3 then?
Thanks,
Timiboy

I don't know, you can try it tho, then report here :good:
So I checked it..sort of The box says XPeria T3, meaning that it is 100% identical. I uninstalled all T-Mobile stuff and except of the start up logo all is like a standart T3. I will Keep it like that until Lolipop comes out. than I will debrand it!
