[Q] Speed tweaks? - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm going back to stock rom, I've been having some problems with some ROMs (Gin2JB and AuroraPlay). The gaming performance is powerful, 7600 on Antutu, but it's so unstable , all my games keep crashing. I believe this is because of Adreno booster so if you know how to remove that, that would also help.
I've heard some people getting the best performance with the stock ROM and a couple good tweaks, so can anyone recommend any that are reliable and stable? Any reply would be appreciated, thanks.

Dude look no further my Rom I'd what u need, no adrenoboistr + full performance, , try it ( link in my signature)

Been on nxt l.e. always seemed to have lag and other issues. Switched to three or four others and wasn't happy with performance. Read up on TLRtheory and how he always has buttery smooth performance on stock rom/kernel. Switched this last weekend to the latest ftf .80 I think. Stock rom and lupus kernel. I must say holy crapsnacks. So much better performance on debloated stock rom. I get between 39-44fps in MC4. Also switch from go launcher to smart launcher pro. All in all so much happier. Please don't take this the wrong way. I am super appreciative of all the devs who have taken the time to make their own custom roms. And for that a big thank you bit I can't deny how bloan away I was in debloated stock rom.

Pizza_dox I would like to try out your rom some time. Maybe this weekend I will take it for a spin. I see you have made some addons. Any suggestions for best performance on your custom rom?

Yea just use my Rom as it is with mo other mods or tweaks that claim to make the phone perform better and before playing a game run into turbo mode:
Open terminal
"su"
Then
"turbo"
It will tell u in the console what it does to the device
Also If u wanna know why I chose this method:
I was sick of terrible boot up times + bad battery with other Roms so instead I made my Rom very stock like and all I added was sone tweaks and when u go into turbo the phone gets optimized,
It's unique cus u have like 2 Roms In 1
To get out of turbo mode just reboot!

Is it possible to keep it in Turbo mode all the time?
Sent from my R800at using xda premium

Yep, but the 1.4 GHz OC is bad all the time so y can manually bump it down,
Also battery will drain a bot more on standby with this on... Due to strong tweaks,

Question about Jedi Mind Trick instrustions

I want to try out the Jedi Mind Trick ROM but I have a question about the instructions before I flash it. At the end the OP says "DO NOT RESTORE DATA!!!". Can someone clarify what this means. Does that mean don't restore your apps that you backed up using titanium back up for example? Sorry for posting here but i'm new so i can't post in dev section yet.
You can restore apps, but that's all. When you get the option to restore apps only or apps+data, choose apps only.
You should never restore data to any rom, it causes issues more times than not.

I have another question about the radio. I am coming from stock GB so should I flash an ICS radio or should I be good to go the way I am? I was able to flash and I am running the ROM right now. Looks good!
Screw that, I have ALWAYS restored my apps with data on every rom and have had no issues. If you happen to have issues just reflash the rom and restore apps without data,

I have a few more questions to add to this thread. In the op the features say that there is cpu sleeper on this ROM so does that mean i dont have to download the separate app? Will it work in its own right out of the box? Also is there a way to under clock this ROM with setcpu or should I just leave it the way it is? Thanks in advance!

Sleeper script is built in. Radio should match your android version. If you are on gb now, you need to flash the uvle1 radio for ics. Communication between your radio and rom will go haywire if they don't match versions. Being able to change kernel/CPU frequencies depends in your kernel and what permissions your rom has. Play around with it, it should be fun to explore and sometimes the risk is what makes technology fun, but also creates advancement. You might discover something the rest of us haven't. This world is about sharing and discovering, but also a way to become self sufficient. The whole teach a man to fish adage

Alright I've flashed the ucle1 radio. I also installed setcpu. I set it to power save right now. Are there any setting you would recommend to maximize my battery. I don't intend to do any over clocking but rather under clocking. Has any one experimented with what max frequency would give okay and stable performance?

Settings that other people use often are irrelevant to know. We all have different apps, add-ons, and use our phones for different things. Honestly the best thing you can do is create a back up of a stable point and then play around with it. If something goes wonky, you can restore and try something different.

No need to use the sleeper app, Faux has it baked into the kernel. I'm mobile so can't link now (lazy) but should be first page on android development page for the radios easy to use flash em in recovery like the rest. The dev has been real cool about any and all questions, laid back forum over all. Its a great ROM

Oh wow, I have stock rooted gb now too and I didn't know the difference. So what would the instructions be from gb? Like when do you flash the radio? Can I use dark sides radio? Do you have to flash a kernel? If so when and which one? Otherwise it seems like dark sides instructions are more complete and easier from gb.
How long does it usually take for the ROM to settle in? I've been using it for two days now and the battery isn't worse but it's about the same as stock gb. When should I be seeing some improvements? And has anyone in nyc tried out the new note radio?
also what was the default CPU speed on this rom? I want to run it the way it is for a while before tweaking speeds. I already changed it around with setcpu and now idk what to change back to before I uninstall it.
When I was in NYC this summer, the UVLC8 radio worked very well for me.

Too bad those scores don't accurately reflect the phones performance. Scrolling is laggy as hell when browsing.
CM10 has much much lower scores but is so much faster and smoother than the leaks. I'm hoping the final build of TW makes the gs3 fly just as well...

I agree. On my device, the TW rom out-performs CM10 (M2) in almost every way. Especially with Google Now, voice search, and battery life. I love CM10, but I have to give credit to Samsung on this one. Maybe its because they hired Steve Kondick.
I'm sure once they release their JB source, that will help a lot with custom ROMs.

Compared to stock kernel you might experience higher performance but at a cost. It might include bugs and make the phone unstable. There could be memory leaks which mean you would have to reboot the phone very often to keep it functional, it will begin to lag after a few days of use.
The memory tunings can increase user interface performance but also often at cost of poor multitasking and higher battery drain as Android continuously in the background swaps apps in and out of memory. A general higher battery drain is also normal for many of the kernels or at least used to be half a year ago.
Stick to stock kernel unless you really need the extra performance or try to find a custom kernel with only very small modifications. Overclock and undervolt are two "safe" modifications that does not change the behavior of the kernel, that is as long as it is not overdone. The success rate of undervolt and over clock depend allot on your handset and can differ allot. Some can safely overclock to 1.8Ghz, others can hardly keep it at 1.4Ghz for the old Xperia Arc.
If you have root access, you can install "MinFreeManager" app to manually tune memory parameters, these are reset at reboot of your phone and it is safe to try different values. If you find stock ICS slow, you can increase the memory limits for Hidden, Content and Empty apps to improve user interface experience. It will be at a cost worse multitasking, and could cause higher battery drain if you have too many widgets and services installed to fit in the memory after updating the memory settings.
Thank you so.much for your information

overclock problem

I just downloaded the Thor kernel and every time I try to over clock it to 2ghz it says it worked then I exit out of ROM toolbox and go back into it and it turns it all the way back down to 800mhz?
Try a different OC app. Such as voltage control
I've tried 3 different OC apps and they say that its at 2ghz then I run antutu and I get really low scores then I go back into the OC app and it says 800mhz?

Just a little friendly advice.. honestly I would do a lot more reading before you start OCing that high. The touchwiz/CM difference is at the most basic level of what you need to know to be messing with kernel settings, and while it's obviously up to you what you do with your phone, there's a lot you should learn between what rom your running, and what you're trying to do now.

Never mind, guess you said it was cm 10.1. What rom are you using to get to 2ghz?? And on cm? I've been searching all over for a kernel that worked for cm based roms on 4.2+ and haven't found anything. Anyway, try locking the clock speed (there should be a box you can check). If that doesn't work, try changing the governor to "performance". This will lock your phone at the max clock speed (that you have it set to, not the limit the kernel allows). If none of those work, it's probably because it's a phone safeguard -- you're not supposed to have it clocked that fast, it'll overheat your phone. The highest clock speed I've seen is 1.9ghz and that's PLENTY fast in my opinion
Sent from my GT-N7105 using xda premium
I already know that tw is touchwiz and cw is clockwork, I just didn't know if cm was cm or tw. I get what ROMs and kernels are and I understand over clocking, I just don't get why when I try to oc to 1.8ghz it works perfectly fine then when is use 2.0ghz it kicks it back down to 800mhz? The kernel I'm using is the Thor kernel, one of the people on the forums put a pic up of them getting 22,000 on antutu with their note 2 with the exact same setup that I have and it just doesn't work with me whenever I try to do a benchmark is when it kicks it back down. I know that every phone reacts different to over clocking and undervolting and everything but I just don't get why it kicks me back down?
Each processor is a little different. Yours might not be able to handle 2ghz so it might kick back down to protect itself from overheating/crashing. Just a guess
Sweet! Finally found what I've been looking for! Yeah just try a different governor, mine works (and sticks) at 2GHz

The Real GPU OC Script

First off I would like to say no disrespect to others who have had scripts for overclocking the GPU for 3D and 2D graphics. After thoroughly dissecting the phone the 2D graphics never really get overclocked. If you check sys/devices/platform/kgsl0 or kgsl1 gpuclk files both will always say 200000000 the minimum. So the 2D part 228751000 from other scripts never really works. I found a way to keep it at max all the time 3D at 320000000 and 2D at 228751000 using int.d script . So for anybody who wants the GPU-OC script that really works try it out. Just flash and reboot that's it 2D will stay at 228751000 and 3D will stay at 320000000 at all times. Runs like a champ on my phone. You be the judge if you works for you or not.

I was just sitting here thinking that my battery had been draining much faster lately. Trying to connect the dots. Then I realized that I started noticing the decrease about the time I flashed this GPU over clock. So, hascanyone else noticed this? Also my phone gets hot as Sh*t while playing Dead Trigger... What are your thoughts? I have a 3800Mah battery. Running ASDEVS Galaxy S Bean v10.5 and hot cakez kernel. Slightly over clocked cpu but it always has been with no noticeable difference until recently..

Anything that overclocks... whether it be your processor or your gpu will get hotter because it takes more voltage which causes more heat. I just flashed this to check it out, but I would imagine the battery life is going to decrease since the clock speeds are going up. Speed comes at a price.
Just an update. I uninstalled the script and battery lasted about twice as long. Phone didn't burn my hand during Dead Trigger either.
