Question about Jedi Mind Trick instrustions - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

I want to try out the Jedi Mind Trick ROM but I have a question about the instructions before I flash it. At the end the OP says "DO NOT RESTORE DATA!!!". Can someone clarify what this means. Does that mean don't restore your apps that you backed up using titanium back up for example? Sorry for posting here but i'm new so i can't post in dev section yet.

You can restore apps, but that's all. When you get the option to restore apps only or apps+data, choose apps only.
You should never restore data to any rom, it causes issues more times than not.

Alright thanks that clears things up. Time to give it a try.

Some reason I'm not able to download pics from mms, anyone one else have that problem? Other than that been running flawless I'm really happy with this rom

I have another question about the radio. I am coming from stock GB so should I flash an ICS radio or should I be good to go the way I am? I was able to flash and I am running the ROM right now. Looks good!

Screw that, I have ALWAYS restored my apps with data on every rom and have had no issues. If you happen to have issues just reflash the rom and restore apps without data,

Most if them well update from the store its be best if u updated them from store but if the app won't work reinstall ..data on gb is going to be different on ics watch out

If we need a ICS radio, where would one find the modified radio? TIA

I have a few more questions to add to this thread. In the op the features say that there is cpu sleeper on this ROM so does that mean i dont have to download the separate app? Will it work in its own right out of the box? Also is there a way to under clock this ROM with setcpu or should I just leave it the way it is? Thanks in advance!

Sleeper script is built in. Radio should match your android version. If you are on gb now, you need to flash the uvle1 radio for ics. Communication between your radio and rom will go haywire if they don't match versions. Being able to change kernel/CPU frequencies depends in your kernel and what permissions your rom has. Play around with it, it should be fun to explore and sometimes the risk is what makes technology fun, but also creates advancement. You might discover something the rest of us haven't. This world is about sharing and discovering, but also a way to become self sufficient. The whole teach a man to fish adage

Alright I've flashed the ucle1 radio. I also installed setcpu. I set it to power save right now. Are there any setting you would recommend to maximize my battery. I don't intend to do any over clocking but rather under clocking. Has any one experimented with what max frequency would give okay and stable performance?

Settings that other people use often are irrelevant to know. We all have different apps, add-ons, and use our phones for different things. Honestly the best thing you can do is create a back up of a stable point and then play around with it. If something goes wonky, you can restore and try something different.

No need to use the sleeper app, Faux has it baked into the kernel. I'm mobile so can't link now (lazy) but should be first page on android development page for the radios easy to use flash em in recovery like the rest. The dev has been real cool about any and all questions, laid back forum over all. Its a great ROM

Oh wow, I have stock rooted gb now too and I didn't know the difference. So what would the instructions be from gb? Like when do you flash the radio? Can I use dark sides radio? Do you have to flash a kernel? If so when and which one? Otherwise it seems like dark sides instructions are more complete and easier from gb.

How long does it usually take for the ROM to settle in? I've been using it for two days now and the battery isn't worse but it's about the same as stock gb. When should I be seeing some improvements? And has anyone in nyc tried out the new note radio?

also what was the default CPU speed on this rom? I want to run it the way it is for a while before tweaking speeds. I already changed it around with setcpu and now idk what to change back to before I uninstall it.

When I was in NYC this summer, the UVLC8 radio worked very well for me.

First things first for future references please post questions in the Q&A section. I understand this is development but this thread is for rom, fixes, and mods most of the instructions and such will be inside the threads. Now that you know here is the answer most roms will work with cwm all you have to do is download them and put them in the root of your sd card. After doing that reboot to recovery make supre you wipe and wipe once again and then go ahead and flash your new rom reboot phone and boom follow instructions. Make sure you back up your apps but I recomend not to restore system apps or data you can do it but sometimes it causes problems.
I must warm you do not pay attention if you get some trolls in here but make sure for the future you post in the righ sections

Using Ra 2.3( dont be alarmed when u see screen pixelation by the way-it's an onscreen bug that wont harm ur phone).
U can run any rom froyo 2.2 roms or 2.3 gingerbread roms.
U don't like CM7 -me either its too plain looking for me- I use my phone as a phone and media player- I don't get anything out of overclocking it - all that does is eat battery faster.
The rom I use is SNS 1.5.... it is snappy, does everything that I need in a rom including masking my wireless tethering(I was using some fancy newer 3.0 and 2.1 sense roms loaded with that ciq sprint spyware and got a "cease and desist letter from sprint about my usage! Since sns 1.5 -has ciq elements purposely stripped out- I'm in the pink without Sprint all up in my business...
Best rom for EVO 4G
Hello,
I tried a lot of roms on my evo but I found the perfect setup for me:
**********
Phone: HTC EVO 4G, hwr 003
ROM: gingerbread-evo-deck-1.3d from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1078558
Kernel: SavagedZen-2.2.1-CFS-HAVS
Launcher: GoLauncherEx
GPX fixer: GPS_Supersonic_FIX_Flash3 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...2&d=1311002339
SetCPU settings:
Main: 1075200-245000 InteractiveX Set on Boot
Profiles:
- Temp > 40C 245-245 PowerSave Priority 100
- Battery < 25% 245-245 PowerSave Priority 95
- Battery < 70% 883-245 InteractiveX Priority 65
- Battery < 85% 998-245 InteractiveX Priority 55
- Charging 1190-245 InteractiveX Priority 45
Note that I do not use an Screen Off profile (Thanks to Rodope) because InteractiveX have it inside.
**********
I want to share this setup because cannot find any issues, everything working very fast.
If you aren't super happy w aosp try a senseless rom w more or aggressive freedom v.9. You will get that polished feel and look and all the HTC goodies.
Worth a shot.
One of my FAVORITE roms that i ran for a really long time was the ava rom. Heres the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1049750
I would always go back to that rom from any others i tried. I say definitely give thag one a go!

CM7 is king baby! I suggest u try a nightly. It has so many nice features built in. To be honest though all the AOSP roms are very similar. U just have to find the one that you like best. I just tried VaelPak and it is pretty nice. It has one nice unique feature...u can actually undervolt it through the settings.

DARKSIDE Dev Team CM7 Hybrid

Hey guys as I am almost done with this Rom, before I finish and release i would like to know what you guys want to see in it? The DARKSIDE really cares about user feedback its the only way development gets better. Let me know. Which launcher do you want to use, ADW (stock in cm7), Launcher2 (AOSP,and my favorite), or Touchwiz (SGS2 stock). Did you want some stock apps sammy included because you have grown to use it. Like I said let me know, but know just cause you ask doesn't mean I will deliver, I also gotta look at what's best for the rom. Thanks again. Lets turn this development section around and bring it back.
Welcome to the DARKSIDE!!!

I personally do not like the adw launcher like on CM7. I prefer stock or TW. I have grown accustomed to these two and are the smoothest I have used. Adw has cool features, but I would like this phone as close to stock as possible. If people want adw it's in the market. Or you can add a flashable zip for each?
Either way do what you have to, to make this ROM the best possible and smooth and I am happy.

Hello, you seem new to this. The difference between CM7 and Juggernaut, BeastMOD, Domination, Bombardier, and Android Zombie (AKA TouchWIZ ROMs, I like to call them Touch****) ... the difference is that CM7 is made from the stock gingerbread builds, and then the kernels/System files are ported to the device. TouchWIZ on the other hand is full of bloat, which makes it run slow, and isn't as tweaked and optimized as CM7. CM7 would always be far better than Touch****.

To be honest, all the ROMs out for our phone are pretty darn good. I think the first thing you need to ask yourself is if you want to keep touchwiz features, or go with something like CM7/9 or MIUI.
If you want something close to stock, but with a few tweaks, CleanGB is going to be your best bet. One of the ROMs that's a bit older, but one of my favorite ones is the ERA EI22 based ROM, Legendary is the name of it.
If you want one of the CM ROMs, then CM7 will give you the best battery life, but CM9 is the most recent. Not great on battery though as that OS is supposed to run with a minimum RAM which our phone doesn't even have. So that's slightly to be expected.
As for themes, you gotta check out the themes section and see what you like for yourself. Same thing with ROMs. Check a few of them out and see what suits you best.
Head over to the Development section and the Themes section and peruse around for a bit. You'll certainly find something you like. With the devs we have now, this is seriously one of the best phones out there right now.
Hayzoos is totally on point with his answer. I would prioritize on what you want from your phone. What is #1 #2 etc..
If you like the stock touchwiz and your main priority is to stay as close to stock with a theme then roll with CleanGB and get a great theme, there's plenty.
If your #1 priority is theme then goto the themes section and find the one you like best and use the appropriate ROM that supports it.
If you are sick of your stock touchwiz then you have 3 choices. CM7 has the best battery life and you can get themes from the market and change it on a whim. However CM9 is the newest build of Android(Ice Cream Sandwich). There is still a couple awesome themes but they will need to be flashed through recovery just like the EL30 themes.
MIUI has probably the best customization but always keep in mind with our AOSP builds(MIUI, CM7, CM9) Sprints Visual Voicemail won't play nice and if you depend on it then go with the EL30 roms/themes. There are of course alternative voicemail options but it will take a few to set it up correctly.
No matter what you choose you are going to learn a new respect for what our device can do so don't get frustrated and happy flashing!!

Okay I just finished rooting it...didn't realize how simple it was. Honestly, I'm looking for the coolest looking, yet best performance hardware and battery ROM I can get. I want to be impressed by what I can now do with my phone.
Also another question, when I go to load my ROM and theme, do I have to factory reset my phone? If so, will I lose my sprint service information or is that saved? I don't have any of the sprint account information so I don't want to do anything to jeapordize losing service.
If you were in my shoes, what ROM and theme would you suggest I try first? Make me go >_>

And please keep in mind that I am using gingerbread EL30.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA
Try AOKP b29. Flash it and leave your phone alone a bit. It will automatically reboot probably 2 times during the process. Then reboot recovery again and flash GAPPS.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
"Cool looking" is relative to you. If you want to stick with Gingerbread, then for best battery life grab CM7 then download some themes from the Play store (market) to throw into the theme changer.
If you want to stick with a TouchWiz ROM and like greens, then CleanGB is for you. If you like blues then The People's ROM has that. There are a bunch of different colored themes in the Themes subforum with screenies in the threads.
Can anyone answer my question about will I lose my sprint account information? Will I jeapordize my service?
Can anyone link me to a ROM that will work with EL30? 2.3.6? A ROM with fast performance and amazing battery life. Just link me!
But please tell me before I do any of this that I will not lose my service or anything related to entering any sprint account Information.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA
If you are already rooted you will lose nothing. Your Sprint service is never in jeapordy unless you do something horribly wrong. If you have saved your contacts on Google you can have them restored on any android phone or firmware. You did not specify if you liked Touchwiz or not, what kind of colored themes...no one can make these decisions for you. In Development is all the ROMs...they say so in the title. Most recent are always at the top. They are ALL good. Save yourself and everyone else some trouble and at least read the first few posts of each and then decide. The Developers went through a lot of their free time for no pay to make the ROMs and write about all the features. Give them the courtesy of reading about them and hitting the Thanks button for them.

No theme manager in cm9, that is CM7. AOSP ROMs do not come with all the Touchwiz niceties. You have to look through threads like the CM9 tips thread in General forum. This is why I linked you to clean GB. Now you would need the MTD version.

Please understand that you just converted your phone from bml to Mtd. You can not just flash any rom now. You can flash mtd roms. If you wish to go back to bml you have to use Odin and restore partitions. I am just telling you this because if you attempt to flash a bml rom you will boot loop the phone or get stuck at the boot screen and complicate yourself. There is a thread specifically for the voicemail and the ported vvm app from the et4g phone which will work with cm9. When using cm9 you have to go into the dialer settings and make sure your phone number is listed in the voicemail settings and not *86. It is to your advantage to read all of the old alpha cm9 thread and this new one currently available. You will learn a lot about cm9 and you will appreciate it even more

One thing I noticed is that my battery drains super fast now that I put CM9 on my phone. Does this occur for anyone else? Any good tips besides that CM9 battery optimization guide that's on the CM9 status page?

I use the 4.0.4 test build for cm9 and my battery life is great. Standby especially seems to be way better, and that was my only original issue with battery on cm9 to begin with.

Looking for nice ROMs for my Galaxy SIII

OK people !
I Got My Samsung When It Came Out, I Rooted it and Activated It The Next Day.... I Am Now Tired of The Stock ROM I Have and Wanted You Guys To Point Me In The Right Direction of Some Cool Looking ROMs. If You Guys Could Post Me Some Links, I Would Greatly Appreciate It.!
Thank You!
Not to be rude or anything but all one has to do is look at some of the popular ROMs in the development sections to get a pretty good idea. The popular ones tend to always be near the top, provide great documentation and support, and provide pictures and videos to get you a great idea of the experience. Just spend 30 minutes looking over the various options, and flash a few to see which one you want to stick with. Flashing ROMs is so easy nowadays that it really is just a matter of how much time you are willing to spend playing around with them. I'm waiting for Jellybean ROMs before I really make the jump and satisfied with the performance of stock (with Nova launcher) until those JB ROMs become pretty stable and can be used everyday.
You really can't go wrong with any rom currently out. I've tried them all out and they won't disappoint. I'm currently running Freeza's rom and though it's touchwiz based, he really changed it up.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28157789
Other great TW roms (in no specific order)
Strongsteve's Odexed Blue
Clark44's FreeGS3
Phantomhacker's Blazer Rom
Try each one out

Hey thanks for the recommendations. I just got the phone yesterday and so far im enjoying the stock experience and yes im even enjoying touch wiz. Which of these roms offer the best battery life? That's what I'm looking for currently on the touch wiz rom.

For me they have all basically been the same in regards to battery life. At a minimum I can pull 16 hrs on battery with 4+ hrs of screen on time with each rom. I'm not really into playing games on my phone so that helps. However, battery life is really user dependent because we all use/set up our devices differently...so what may end up being good for me may not be the best battery life for someone else. Definitely give each one a try though and see which works best for you
I'm definitely going to try them all, but god damn are all TW roms almost 1gb in size? I thought sense roms with big @ half the size.

Not all of them but if they're full of addons, such as FreeGS3 by Clark, then it can get big. Freeza's rom is probably the smallest coming in at about 498MB

Clark44 rom is so big because he includes Aroma installer which lets you pick and choose what mods you would like to include, therefore all mods and tweaks are downloaded. Hth

Devs should start making Bare Bone versions.Just out of Blazer 1.7 i removed over 40 uneded apk files! That slimed the rom by almost 200mb,but its still too large when cm is only 200mb.
Removing all this junk improves speed and battery life greatly.

If you want to get into AOSP roms, CM10 is running pretty smooth even though it's still in preview builds. Nav bar mods and inverted gapps look really good as well.

No offense but a question like that is not going to get u an answer.. word has it all 4 main tw roms are basically running the same mods and it comes down to looks right now.. plus it kinda depends on your own set up..
I switched to odexed blue because I like blue.. I would make a nandroid and try a couple of them.. flash a different Rom and try em for a day or two each.. see what works best for you. That's the beauty of xda.. you have options..

I don't think that's necessarily true. I've seen a few people post that FreeGS3 is noticeably smoother and less laggy than Blazer. Not knocking Blazer since it may have some other features that people prefer.
For my previous phone (EVO 3D), I tried several Sense ROMs and there was a significance difference in performance among them. Is it such a stretch to assume that a similar variance would be present in custom TW ROMs?

Well I wouldn't know as I've only tried stock, freeza's fre3 and blue odex since coming over from the og epic.. I guess my "word has it" comment came from reading http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=29890564 <-- that
I guess my point is obviously people like all these roms, or they prob wouldn't always be the top four threads all day long...
It really depends on your own preferences as they all appear to be stable and running well..
Again my advice, pick one and flash it.. if u feel like trying something else then try that too.. If somethIng goes wrong restore your backvup.. again.. the beauty of xda.

I get your point but the beauty of XDA is also in the ability to solicit opinions to make an informed decision. I don't think my question was that out of line. It's not as open ended as simply asking what the "best" ROM is.

[Q] sgs3 lag help

Hi, ill try to be quick
I am on stock android 4.1.1 rooted. stock kernel. power saving mode off. full battery. half storage space still empty. Everything should be running smoothly.
The problem is that when I go to play games like nova 3 or modern combat 4, there is a significant amount of lag and stuttering and loss of frame rate.
Sgs3 is a good phone and this is a good processor even though its not the international version...
Does anyone know what might be happening?
Thanks
Have you tried to get the update? You are behind a little. The latest stock version is 4.1.2, build MD4. Not sure if that's your issue but it might help. You may need to do a factory reset as well.
I just noticed that you are rooted. You should back everything up, download all the new stuff from freeza's thread, wipe, and flash.

In the mean time, can anyone give confirmation that these applications run on this phone?

Just a thought... why did you suggest freeza's thread (this is a custom rom right)? Would cyanogenmod work? I have been trying to find time to flash to that and get a kernel for overclocking.

So basically you guys are just saying to update to latest firmware. I'll try that when I get time but it hasn't helped any before. I guess I'll try again...
Thanks for the help so far
People said they had better smoothness with the newest kernel and such...so like said above, just flash the WHOLE rom, not just the firmware, because the firmware will only affect your mobile data reception, not the performance of your phone.

Crossbreeder might help a little but I'm just looking why my phone isn't able to run these applications. This phone should be able to run them fine but mine lags like crazy.
Anyone else have any other ideas?
I would recommend changing the kernel to one which you can tweak a little. Change the governor and such. That way you can get a more performance based tune for the games. This should eliminate the lag and choppy results your getting now. I know with ktoonsez KT747 kernel and the different tweaks in the Team Kernelizers thread you can actually save several different profiles if you wish to run one for battery saving, another for performance.
Also keep in mind the games with the issues, are these online games that are relying on a data connection? Could the lag be a data speed issue and not a processor speed issue?

Thank you. These can be online games but the campaign is just as laggy if not worse. I guess my next option is to flash a new kernel and then to overclock after that. My question is that why would this devise not be able to run these applications?
Well thanks for the help everyone. If anyone has gotten either of these games to run on this device or have any other ideas feel free to say something.
Thanks
