I'm trying to unlock a US TMo S3 so that I can use it in the UK for 2 months during a trip.
I tried the following steps from XDA Forum to unlock my S3 locked with TMo. But dialing the code *#197328640# doesn't bring up the 'secret' menu to unlock the phone.
I'm running CM 10.1 with baseband UVDLJC. Do I have to switch to a TouchWiz rom to do this? I'm not sure why it's not working in CM.
Yes, you do. Just make a nandroid of your current setup, and flash a TW ROM.

Well, there is one...
Don't Odin flash the UVDMD5 firmware. It'll upgrade your baseband to the only one this won't work with.

Great thanks. Can I update the baseband after unlocking or will that re-lock it?
You can update w/o relocking. Once unlocked, it'll stay that way.

But nandroid backup is complete image of your phone. So it will relock it back once I restore the full backup?
I highly doubt it would re lock. Flashing roms and firmware dont do that so I'd be surprised if it did.
I haven't heard of anyone having a device relock from anything.

Need help, Cant seem to get my phone updated. My phone was rooted with stock rom. Did the triangle away/superu to unroot and then flashed the stock recovery and wiped data. When i try to update it says device up to date. Kies says device is not supported. Thanks in advance.

Edit the photo and remove your IMEI number from it, you don't want someone to have that information.
Also, are you kidding? Your phone info shows 4.1.1 and the baseband is also the most current version for T889.

I never got an ota update. No multiview. I restored my stock rom from when I bought the phone 11/1. Then I just unrooted and flashed the stock recovery

I don't know what to say, I got the update and look at the baseband, etc, same as yours.

I noticed your build and baseband versions match, mine are different for some reason.

We started on 4.1.1 the update did not change the version number, only added some features.
Flash the UVALJ1 Stock ROM itself (KIES_HOME_T889UVALJ1_T889TMBALJ1_260018_REV04_user_low_ship.tar.md5) first. I can't remember where I got it, but that and resetting the device did the job for me. Just do a search for it. Then I flashed the UVALK8 injected root stock rom after flashing the UVALJ1 stock rom first.
Yes, that is messed up. Your Kernel is the old kernel.
Hopefully this will clear things up for you.
Thanks, ill try this in a bit.

So sorry, I forgot I flashed a modem. To be honest, I updated via flashing a zip from development and flashed the modem. No need to get back to unmodified for me unless I need to send it for repair.

They always come pre-rooted and never contain a recovery. So that should work for you.

Bootloader stays unlocked.
The bootloader on the T999 was never locked. Using any program to unlock the bootloader will brick the phone.

I suggest you go back to stock firmware and then try the code. Just make a nandroid and backup your pictures and stuff.
Some say it being rooted will make a code note work. Never tried myself

Thanks however Is this a fact because I would like to avoid flashing back to stock if possible. I guess it would be the safest thing to do but definitely would prefer not to.

Just make a backup of your current setup and go to a stock build. It's really easy. I always leave a backup of the stock rom on my phone in case I ever have some weird issue

Well, finally we have got KitKat and so I may ask, why you want to go back?
If you want to run 4.3 custom roms, no need to downgrade, go ahead and flash.

flash ofw with odin then flash cwm and restore backup. it worked for me
People are saying you can't flash back to 4.3 from 4.4.2, which is partially true.
Even when you flash the 4.3 firmware, you will still have 4.4.2 bootloader.
However, if you are not really fussed about the mini details, just flash it like you would normally with Odin,
then when there are problems with wifi, use custom kernels to fix it.
Otherwise, flash 4.3 then use a nand backup to restore (if you have it).

Just using odin 1.85 to flash back to 4.3 stock rom. Remember to wipe data/cache before flash
I hope this can help.
I want to update my device to N900TUVSFPH3 from fob6..do we need to unroot first, then flashing in Odin?
There is no need to unroot before flashing in Odin. One thing I highly recommend is backing up your data before flashing in case something goes wrong.

With Samsung phones, it is not always possible to revert to a previous bootloader. Unfortuantely, I don't know the Note 3 well enough to say whether it can or can't be done. Personally, I always run the latest modem and bootloader on a Samsung phone, regardless of whether it will run a stock or custom ROM.

The bootloader will not look, but it may be non-downgrade-able.
Flashing the latest stock rom via Odin will upgrade everything on the phone to the latest stock rom, including bootloader and modem.
