First off I am new to the xda forum's and am sorry if this subject has been covered already, if so please point me n the right direction. Ok. I am having a charging problem with my EVO. When phone is on and charger plugged in it will not display that it is charging and will even prompt to charge or die when meter gets low. When phone is off it charges normally. I am running a custom rom. Thundershock. So I'm guessing this is a kernal problem but didn't want to go changing it till I maybe got more info from someone who knows more then me.. that could b anyone. If u can help me at all tux alot.

Hi I have an HTC EVO and I didn't root it or flash any custom roms on it. It's a stock ROM from Sprint. I've been having problems with charging it though; when I charge it to my charger, the phone says its charging but the number keeps going lower and lower until it shuts off. It's like it can't keep the charge but it says it's charging? What do I do? Does anyone have this issue?

I had this issue flashing a few custom ROMs and Kernels, but would always resolve itself when returning to Stock ROM.
If you didn't flash anything I would request Sprint to have the phone replaced.
Good luck!
So does this come under a warranty for sprint or is this replaced under the 7 dollar monthly insurance plan?
I think it had a one year warranty. I feel bad that I'm not for sure about this.

Thanks for responding and for the help ugh i just hope they can replace it. Have other ppl had issues with this? I've heard Sprint may or may not replace it?
Its definitely software
I have similar issues. Occasionally the phone stops charging. At first I thought it was the cable or the charger, but:
I use the same two chargers everyday, and they work fine for weeks at a time.
When the charge cable is plugged in, the white "lightning bolt" appears in the battery icon, BUT the icon animation showing the green moving charging does not start.
Pulling out the battery, and rebooting fixes it. So it must be software.
Just not sure what software. It could be something other than the OS.
Anyone narrow it down further?
My Evo:
Stock ROMs
Still on Eclair (refusing froyo updates)
I have the EVO version 003 and it seems to run just fine save for one problem that the Sprint stores have been quick to dismiss. I have a Seidio car dock and at first it appeared that I might have a bad dock as it did not charge the phone. The phone recognized the dock and went into car mode, but did not charge. When I brought it into the Sprint store last night they tested it with another evo which did charge. So the problem is obviously with the evo. But where? I've run it stock and rooted with a variety of kernels (no SBC). It charges fine through AC and I think it's fine with USB (how can I be certain?)
Help.
Does it charge when plugged into a PC via USB?
Yes. I don't know how quickly it is supposed to charge but it does charge
this issue has been seen with several kernals. so the problem is probably your fault for flashing what ever kernal you are on. flash stock unmodified kernal and try again.
Can you tell me what the issue is? I did all I could to search for the problem before posting but didn't even know what the jump off point was. I've run the phone completely stock with no positive result.

Have you flashed the original HTC Stock#15 kernel to the phone?
I've unrooted the phone and returned it to factory stock so if I'm not mistaken, it should be running #15.
how do you know it aint the dock???? how did you eliminate it as the issue????
the EVO and many new phones... have safe gaurds for protection when charging....
have you plugged another EVO into that doc? see if it charges???

They eliminated the issue when the Sprint Store got another Evo to charge on it. The battery stops charging but it still registers the cable being plugged in (by a green light in the upper left hand corner).
Read, sir, it's FTW.
I have no idea what the problem could be, but what I'd do is find someone with a set-up that does work (kernel/rom) with 0003 hardware and the dock and mimic their set up to see if that works.
Best of luck.
Slight update - the phone will not charge above 84% on usb. It's been lingering there for about 2 hours.

i stand corrected... read it twice.. but I completely miss-read it.
now that my afternoon coma is over.. I see it now.
well i dont see why sprint can deny this repair.. if a new evo was charging in front of this face.. and yours will not. and you had returned it to stock before you took it in.
I would ask to talk to his manager...
and state that if he did not do what is right.. you will send Dan H. a letter and give store location, manger name, and tech name.
The problem is that they plug the phone into the AC charger and if it charges then they assume it to be alright. USB charging (and in turn, the dock charging) is a longer issue that they are not equipped to, or do not want to, repair. That's why I'm stuck. How can I tell them there is a charging issue if it is an issue that takes hours to repair?
Resolved. Charge port was dirty. Cleaned at Sprint and all is well.

Same thing
But you get the Popup on connection, and the Charging Notification on the Status bar as well?
EDIT: Try this, Turn off your phone, Remove the battery, SIM, SDCard (ie: everything), Place for 10-15 minutes, then reassemble your phone and try again

Not working bro ((
It decreased again? Or stayed static? Remember - Charging (even 1%) takes time.
It seems something is broken. :/

Ya again 26 to 25 sometimes it works sometimes not
Got another MicroUSB Cable? Try with that. If it still doesn't work, I would assume it to be a hardware issue.

I (probably) have the same problem.
Got an HTC Wildfire a few days ago. Didn't come with the original charger & cable.
The charger I got is 500mA. Problem is, it's barely charging and sometimes even discharging (while it's plugged in)
I've installed a couple of widgets to look into it (Battery Mix & CurrentWidget)
Battery Mix clearly shows the phone discharging while plugged in (as a graph), CurrentWidget says it's getting under 50mA (ranging from 15-45)
Right now it's off & charging. The battery was around 13% when I switched it off. Waited about 30 min, then turned it back on, it was at 42%.
I'm trying to exhaust all other options before I go out and get new hardware.
I'm wondering why the charger is only giving it <50mA and wondering if the problem lies with it, the battery, the cable or the phone itself.
Yes, I know I know this question has been asked a million times on here. I have tried looking through past forums & none hold my unique problem. Just please, help you guys. OH MY GOD! My phone will not hold its charge and ive literally tried EVERTHING. I have a nexus galaxy and one night it decides to not charge after I connect to about 3 different chargers. I take it to Sprint & they tell me the port is busted so they replace it & it works fine. I charge it at home & the little battery icon says its charging but the battery itself is getting lower & lower. That makes no sense. How could it obviously say its charging but the freaking battery not charge? so I go in again & they give me a new battery. Still to no avail. I even bought a new charger and when I come home to charge it, the battery gets lower as if its not being charged. the lock screen says its charging but when I log into the phone & check the battery options on settings, it says its not. its so frustrating and I don't know what else to do. please help! is it probably something internally wrong with the phone to where I have to replace it to a whole new one?
I have never had such problems but you changed all possible hardware relating from your nexus what about software?
Maybe a complete new stock 4.2.2 flash could help. Have you tried it?
swyped with my galaxy nexus on purity rom with fancy kernel
hi guys, i am having a problem with my note 2. when i plug it in to charge, the charging light goes on and the lightning symbol shows up on the battery. but the problem is that it is not charging. the battery level stays the same and does not go up. does anyone know what the problem is? thanks in advance.
I don't really think you're going to get any help in this forum, I've posted 3 topics without any response.... :/
I could be wrong , though
Have you check and seen if it's the battery or have you turn your phone off to see if your would change up?
Yeah. I've tried that. The computer won't recognize the phone.
