My guess is the middle or end of July and key lime pie by October since that's when the Moto X might be released and Google wants to have Motorola flagship phone on the newest version of android.Im thinking they wont release a new nexus device this year and the Moto X will be there nexus for this year with stock android and a few good customizations such as their 3 ring clock widget, quick setting, smart actions etc. from Razr HD line of phones.

We all thought they wouldn't release a nexus device last year, but then they hit the nexus 4 to the market. I really don't know any more. They have become less predictable. Which I really don't mind. I kind of enjoy the guessing game. I think I can surely say key lime pie (4.3 possibly) will be released this year.

yea i totally agree with you but it would be no point of a nexus device this year since they already got the nexus 4,Galaxy s4 google edition, htc one google edition and the sony xperia z google edition maybe... since that's still a rumor.

This.
Also, I believe 4.3 will drop sometime this fall, around Oct. or Nov., because that's when the next Nexus is rumored to be released.
And apparently, it is likely going to be made by LG again and not Motorola as suggested above.
I'm just waiting to be able to run an AOSP ROM with Bluetooth AVRCP. So I guess as soon as they release the source ...
thanks for all the feedback.
I wonder what new features Google could possibly pack into 4.3? I think 4.3 will be a minor update, then KLP will hit us hard!!
Google need to slow it down so everyone can catch up to the latest Android operating system. To many updates and os versions make it hard for developers. One or two updates is good enough google keep going and going.

So obviously the best course of action is to bump them.
To the OP: No one knows anything about KLP-- no concrete details have been leaked or officially announced thus far. But I think it's very safe to assume that you should not expect it until Q1 or Q2 2013.
Sorry for my curiosity.

We literally just got Jellybean . . . . . . .

The Google guys can't be that retarded to release a new version of android when there are no other phones with jelly bean besides the nexus s and gnex. I think the next major update (aka klp) will be announced june - july 2013. Till then we will get minor updates (4.1.2, 4.1.3...)

A new nexus is always released with a new system version if history is to repeat itself.
Nexus One - Eclair/Froyo
Nexus S - Gingerbread
Galaxy Nexus - Ice Cream Sandwich
Nexus 7 - Jellybean
Assuming history is followed we should be able to expect a new version with the next nexus. But we must keep in mind googles plan for 1 major update/year and with that in mind it could be June when we get our next major release.
The waiting game begins...

the rest is just him speculating anyways, which accomplishes nothing other than to sort of semi-satisfy your "blind curiosity" that is clearly you just trying to blind us with the fact that you're LAZY to look it up yourself.
Go to rumor sites if you want speculation, this is NOT rumor site, and this forum for the Nexus even less-so.

Krispy Kreme is the name of a brand chain doughnut stores not a sweet dish.
Definitely google will not name Krispy Kreme.
Most likely it will be Key Lime Pie and will be released around Christmas time (Thus the Candy Cane).
I think releasing a new os just after releasing jb would piss off customers. I mean I know this community is all about the next update but why not just allow the defragmentation to even out instead of making I worse. I personally believe if anything that Google will not release anything until next year if anything. Did you guys forget about the announcement of jb just a few months ago. Google would be stupid to update to a new is version. So soon. They already had ICS and jb in a year + span. Did t they say they would do at least two a year or less to reduce fragmentation?

You are so right! Google should just lay off all of their developers until next year.
I don't know if you know anything about software development, but it is a neverending process. You don't put a new version out and then stop working for 6 months. The dev's at Google are working at least 40 hours a week on nothing but Android. When enough changes are made to the current version that warrants a release, that is when it happens. They are not going to wait on OEM's and carriers to update their existing products first.

Gingerbread: December 2010
Honeycomb: Febrary 2011 (Fast/Temp/OnlyForTablet OS to compete with tablet market)
Ice Cream Sandwhich: October 2011
JellyBean: July 2012 (and I think it was anticipated to lunch the nexus 7 in the "right time" to compete with other tablets)
I would say the release a new OS once a year in normal condition.
My guess:
Key Lime Pie: November 2013 (Completely interface redesign, finally an homogeneus interface maybe)
I think we will see some JB updates with stability and interface fixes, 4.1.2, 4.1.3, 4.1.4, etc

What?!? If anything, Apple's icon pack (AKA iOS7) should make Google and Samsung rest easy...
It's really nothing more than an icon pack (ludicrous redesign BTW.. to think those clowns had the guts to mock Touchwiz's colors for being "toy-ish" LMFAO!!) plus the usual round of rip-offs from Android and Windows... They haven't fixed any of that piece of software crap's major handicaps.
Plus, it's just been previewed (and only on iPhones which makes me think they are pretty behind in development), it won't be available until this fall.
iOS is the WORST major mobile operating system around.

Sure, they are always welcome, but for today there isn't a single thing that REALLY NEEDS to be updated with this phone. Yeah right - Google should do weekly upgrades because you're "bored" - FFS. Do you even think before posting this ramble or what?
I was thinking earlier today about what is to come in the future of android. I am thinking that 5.0 key lime pie (if google even decides to call it that) will be card based with a new style launcher that will change everything people think about when they hear the word android. I think it's going to be a huge update.
I want to know what everyone else thinks that 5.0 is going to be like.

Why must there be? There are unofficial versions, just use those. Are you expecting Sony to keep every single phone they ever released up to date? There must be hundreds by now (okay that was a hyperbole, 48 according to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony_Xperia), noone can keep up with that. If you must blame anyone or anything for the short while that phones are getting updates, blame Android because it's so hard to install on hardware (compared to more classic PC OS's like Windows and Ubuntu/Pick-Your-Favorite-Linux-Distro). Not even the Galaxy Nexus got an update to Android 4.4, and if there was one Nexus that was most like our Fuji-phones it was that one. So if our generation's Nexus isn't even getting any updates anymore, how do you expect a non-Nexus device to get that update.
Seriously, I don't like this either, so ever since KitKat I haven't run a stock ROM. Now you've learned that if stock updates are important to you, you should get a Nexus or a Google Play Edition device. Sony has been known not to be very good in providing long term updates ever since the Xperia X10 (their very first Android phone). And if you can't afford to get a new phone every 2 years (because that's how long it'll be relevant), you should stop being so sensitive about updates and be happy with what you have.

Best not buy a HTC, support isn't great there either. The One X(L) isn't going beyond Android 4.2. If this is important to you, there's only q Nexus, a Google Play Edition phone or maybe a Motorola Moto X but we still have to see how long Motorola is going to support phones now they're part of Google.
And indeed we wouldn't be much without Rayman or bilchen. But it's like this for the vast majority of Android devices.

had some on 4.3, but with 4.4 I have too many to be stable as dayly driver.
i guess they all use the same kernel (open semc), that could explain why the all have it?
but... why do some people claim to have no reboots, and others have em 'all the time'?
i'm now on nature rom (4.1) and no problems at all, it's a great rom, but i really like 4.4 as well.
will there be a stable kernel/version soon?

Seriously, I don't like this either, so ever since KitKat I haven't run a stock ROM. Now you've learned that if stock updates are important to you, you should get a Nexus or a Google Play Edition device. Sony has been known not to be very good in providing long term updates ever since the Xperia X10 (their very first Android phone). And if you can't afford to get a new phone every 2 years (because that's how long it'll be relevant), you should stop being so sensitive about updates and be happy with what you have.

First of all, the XS it's not just another phone sony launched, its a flagship device that only got two major updates (one actually cause ics should have been out of the box) so I at least expected 4.2 or 4. 3, even Galaxy s2 got them
second, the galaxy nexus didn't get 4.4 because of Texas instruments (supposedly) and as long as other oems continue to update it means it's possible and we have every right to complain about it

You're absolutely correct that Galaxy Nexus lack of KitKat is due to Texas Instruments. Similar, Xperia S ain't getting 4.2 and above due to Qualcomm, not Sony.

Ok then my mistake, but how would you then explain the galaxy s2 getting updates with a snapdragon s2?
