I'm really not a noob to flashing ROMs, in fact, I got pretty good at it with my Evo before I upgraded to the Galaxy 2.
So I got the phone rooted using Odin, now I need to install Clockworkmod recovery so I can flash some custom ROM's. Everytime I install clockworkmod using Odin, when my phone reboots, I can't get service, and the buttons on the bottom aren't working. The search button now turns into the menu key.
So how can I get this working right? Do I need clockworkmod to be able to install custom ROM's? Is there another way to install clockworkmod aside from using Odin? Because Odin just isn't working.
Any help is appreciated.
Why dont you get it off the market?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
I'm using ROM Manager now.
Now I keep getting:
"E: failed to verify whole-file signature"
and: "E:signature verification failed"
This comes up every time I try to use ROM Manager to backup/flash a new ROM.
What method of root did you use?
The one in this thread; from the video:

my phone is the same way, using the app, or booting into CWM it wont let me back up. I just flash the rom anyway... whatever. Not the best method, but ive installed plenty of roms and never had a problem. It would be nice to find out why though.
yeah, the problem is it isn't flashing. It just gives me that error which eventually forces me to reboot.
rom manager doesnt support this phone yet u have to odin eb30 with clockworkmod 4.0 which supports back up and restore .
if my epic wont boot up normally and stays on the black screen and the samsung logo and doesnt boot into recovery mode, does that mean its bricked?
You need to odin back to stock ec05. Its pretty simple. There is a post here on the forums that has step by step instructions. MAKE SURE you don't use your stock usb cable that came with your phone when you odin it back to stock, it will really screw up your phone.
Sent using my overclocked 1.44 GHz Samsung Epic running legendary ROM beta : samurai v1.0.4
No if its hard bricked it wont do anythingbthe fact that u have it doing anything im thinking u tried to root or flash a rom imporperly and soft bricked it. You need to go to this thread it has step by step instructions of how u use odin to restore firmware to your phone http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1052813
i just saw one where i odin this file in pda section
SPH-D700-DG27-8Gb-REL.tar
And a pit file
Is that what your talking about
yeah i flashed the:
epic4g.stock.recovery.ec05.zip file

Not necessarily. Try to get into download mode (hold the 1 key on the keyboard and power button). If you cannot get into that, then try searching both QA and General forums for the word "Brick" and scan through some threads.
There are many methods of trying to rescue a possible brick.
Off top my head:
Pull out the battery and SD card. Leave battery out for 20mins. Put battery back in and try download mode again.
Remove battery again and leave out. Connect the charging cable with no battery in the phone and try download mode again.
Yes odin the stock firmware click the link i posted and follow the instructions exactly take your time read every step before doing it and you will be fine the first boot may take alot longer so dont be worried give it time if you have issues with odin not recognising your phone try all your usb ports then try a different cable if no dice. Delete the samsung driver restart your pc install the driver again then restart pc again and try . I had alot of issues with the usb cable that came with my epic but the best one i have found is a gold tipd micro usb cabke radio shack sells only like 30 dollars and works every time. If u have more problems and cant grt it to work pm me ill help u. Otherwise good luck

Here is a link with the stock recovery file in the OP.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1027904&highlight=stock+recovery
ok i got it up and running again. it has the green clockwork do i need to remove that and install stock recovery
You dont need to . U can leave clock work installed it will not harm your phone. And as long as your on a stock rom you can still accept ota updates
i just downloaded the update and i restart and install and it is just staying on the black screen with the samsung logo and website. this happened before.
Ok mabye there is a problem with the ota do the odin thing again
---------- Post added at 04:15 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:13 PM ----------
Then install this in clockwork http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1340055
That is a spin on the gingerbread rom done by acs. Just like i said odin the tar download that rom put on your sd card boot into clockwork recovery wipe data wipe cache wipe davilk cache 3 times each then choose install zip from sd card choose that acs rom and let it flash
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted
That's the message i get when i pulled battery out because it didn't do anything so i put it into clockwork.

If this is the OTA you are talking about, Odin again and do not put clockwork on. Boot into stock recovery and apply update.zip.
odin what?

Odin the stock EC05 tar, here is one place you can get it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1052813
Then you can 3 finger into the stock recovery, then you can install the update.zip. You are just trying to get the OTA to install at this point right?
yes im just trying to get ota to install

OK cool, then do what I said above and you should be able to install the update.zip. You only have to check the reboot box in the top screen of Odin and if you are stuck all the Odin instructions are in the thread I pointed you to.
ok so i odin that rar file and im on 2.1
do i need to save the EI22 update file to sdcard and do the update from system recovery because it didnt work
Hi,
I tried to downgrade my Telus SGS3 to 4.1.1 but Odin failed at 75% and now my device is bricked. I can get to download mode easily. I tried Kies, but could never connect to the device even though I have all drivers installed correctly. I tried to reflash 4.2.2 but also failed the same way. I then tried to flash Cyanogen using CWM. I first tried to flash CWM using heimdall but also failed (error claiming interface failed). I then converted the recovery.img to .tar.md5 (7zip to tar and md5sum to md5) and flashed using Odin which went fine and was able to boot into CWM. I put both the ROM and gapps on the SDCARD and flashed from CWM but I got an error stating that (cwm failed to verify whole-file signature). I even tried to flash using adb sideload which seamed to finish 100% but when rebooting it returned the same signature error.
Please any advice. What bothers me is that I have done this many times before and never went into any issue. If I could at least make Kies connect to recover the damn thing.
PS: my GS3 is SGH-i747M and I downloaded the ROMs from sammobile and update-samsung
Thanks
SOLVED ...
I do not get it! I used a Samsung Galaxy Nexus cable and "voila" it worked from the first time!

Hi,
I have a samsung gt-n7100 it hangs on the samsung galaxy note II logo and afterwards the android bot appears to be loading...then a red exclamation marks pops up and many error messaged appear such as failed to mount efs etc.
Android System Recovery is - KOT49H.N7100XXUFNE1
I have tried odin3, but it fails every single time....failed to write to nand in short.
I tried using the recovery pit and 4.1.2 recovery files, but same it fails every time and I have noticed that on the phone sometimes there is invalid magic string.
I am thinking that it could be the bootloader since it cannot be downgraded, but the link nd3 bootloader to flash is down and can't try that, but it can be anything.
Can anyone suggest anything? maybe even a way to flash phylz recovery and then flash a custom rom?
Am clueless and any help is appreciated.
Thanks!
use different ver. of odin or kies recovery.
what info do you have in odin?
hey I had same problem stuck on logo and could not use odin becouse of same problem. so it was long time ago and I dont remember in details but what I did was, I used microSD. moved rom files in it and installed them with recovery.Sorry my english is weak but if you dont have cwm recovery or twrp recovery try to find them for odin.I think I did not have them working too but I found recovery to installed with odin and It worked.no NAND error or things like that.so try to install recovery with odin and then put rom files on sd card(if you have it).since then I haven't tryed to install any stock rom using odin becouse I still have that NAND error and I dont want my phone to die in my hands . GOOD LUCK!
Are you using the original Samsung USB cable? Tried different USB ports?
