I'm really not a noob to flashing ROMs, in fact, I got pretty good at it with my Evo before I upgraded to the Galaxy 2.
So I got the phone rooted using Odin, now I need to install Clockworkmod recovery so I can flash some custom ROM's. Everytime I install clockworkmod using Odin, when my phone reboots, I can't get service, and the buttons on the bottom aren't working. The search button now turns into the menu key.
So how can I get this working right? Do I need clockworkmod to be able to install custom ROM's? Is there another way to install clockworkmod aside from using Odin? Because Odin just isn't working.
Any help is appreciated.
Why dont you get it off the market?

I'm using ROM Manager now.
Now I keep getting:
"E: failed to verify whole-file signature"
and: "E:signature verification failed"
This comes up every time I try to use ROM Manager to backup/flash a new ROM.
What method of root did you use?

my phone is the same way, using the app, or booting into CWM it wont let me back up. I just flash the rom anyway... whatever. Not the best method, but ive installed plenty of roms and never had a problem. It would be nice to find out why though.
yeah, the problem is it isn't flashing. It just gives me that error which eventually forces me to reboot.
rom manager doesnt support this phone yet u have to odin eb30 with clockworkmod 4.0 which supports back up and restore .

So here is my issue.
I rooted the slide using eugene373 method.
(everything worked. Even ran rooted apps.)
But I wanted to add a custom rom. (MyFroyo5)
So I attempted to do the 'flash custom rom guide' but kept getting
"E:signature verification failed installation aborted" when running the first update.zip in the stock recovery.
So being "clever" I decided to get pass the stock recovery by doing the original root method. (Do an adb push update.zip /sdcard right after selecting apply update.zip)
It worked, and from clockwork I flashed the myfroyo5.zip.
BUT, the rom didn't flash correctly for some reason and my phone is stuck at mytouch slide screen
Can someone please help me to at least get back to stock so I can fix what I did wrong. Thanks.
Power off your phone
Boot up into the bootloader
Once in the bootloader start your loop in adb
Boot into recovery and good luck.
If you miss on the "offline", pull the battery and try again.
Also you were getting the signature failed because you never did the ENG build...just an FYI
Thanks for the reply. I did eventualy get my phone back. I redid the root process and flashed the teamfennix rom.
However can some one tell me more about flashing the ENG build? That's not on eugene's guide.

The guide that is in the slide rom bible is all that you need.
It has every step laid out really well.
There is also a video if you want to watch it done, its pretty simple and you shouldnt have any problems with it.
Hi Guys
been searching for hours for a solution but can't find anything.
Installed Lambros Rom - all fine. I've booted into recovery to put my old rom on and I get the following error:
E: Can't Open/cache/recovery/command
--Install from sdcard--
Finding update package
Opening update package
Verifying update package
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
So i've reformatted the card, wiped the phone cache and tried several different rom and I get the same error. Using ClockWorkMod recovery and rom manager.
Can anyone help? Is this a common error?

I dont know very well but it can be about S-on-off issue
Try disabling verification in clockwork. From memory I think its under the advanced option. It says toggle verification. Hope this helps
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
It is the signature verification but to toggle it you need to (in recovery) go to 'install update from zip' and there should be the option to toggle it.
I have the same problem. My question is whether there is anything I can do to avoid this problem the next time I upgrade to a newer version of leedroid?
BTW my HTC Desire was unrooted using the unrevoked method and I'm currently running leedroid 2.2f.
Thanks in anticipation.

I still have bootloader 0.80 - this sort of indicates I didn't upgrade to the OTA 2.2 can someone back me up on this?
If I unroot my phone to 2.1 using a gold card and then re-root do you think this will work?

^ This.
All you have to do is go into recovery, install zip file from sd, and toggle the signature verification. This has happened to me a few times; I just simply toggled it, and the ROM flashed perfectly.
sorry for ressurecting, but i have a similar problem.
wanted to install a custom rom and for some reason it failed und bricked my phone.
i boot into fastboot, but every time i want to flash a new rom, it says "signatur verfication failed" and i do not have the option to toggle it off.

You need to be in recovery, not in fastboot.
Are you even rooted and have a custom recovery image?

You need a fake flash recovery image.
AmonRa version can be found here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=689778
download it, place it on SD card. Boot into fast boot, chose run update.zip and it will boot in to the fake flash this is where you get all the option you need.
Get back to me if you have an trouble.

I have exalty the same problem as you. I have been looking all over the place for a tutorial I could follow. I even downloaded a zip signer and tried to sign the update.zip file I downloaded from the leedroid thread on xda. It did not work.
From what I understand from the above:
You have the exact problem as you

I think if you're on the leaked 2.2 rom you won't be able to use clockwork recovery successfully. You'll have to downgrade to 2.1, root, install clockwork recovery and then install the rom.
That's what worked for me.
Install Clockwork recovery.
Then boot into recovery (after a nandroid backup) and toggle off verification.
Then you won't get the error when you apply the update.zip. You must do this in recovery.
Toggle off verification in Clockwork recovery:

Cheers!
I've read all these posts, but my phone refuses to show me the clockwork recovery menu.. no matter what I do, I always get the android system recovery menu..
Please help..
Also, I cant get my phone into recovery/download mode using the 3 button combo. I've tried every possible combination, but the only way I can get to the default 'android' recovery menu is by using the ROM Manager app.

Hey guys, if you're still having this 'Signature Verification Failed" nonsense and Clockwork Mod is not letting you flash anything, check this thread (on the third page, my post tells you the fix), I just solved my own issue
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=944426&page=3
Good luck, post back if you have questions/comments, I'll check back and hopefully find you solved your problems as I have
Cheers
just try flashing clockwork mod
I am having the same exact issues. But i have found a workaround that is working for me.
When presented with the error, i go to the "Advanced" menu and select "Reboot recovery". After rebooting, on my phone, the process will start as desired
by me the same problem, it always comes E: signatur verification failed
So turn off signature verification in recovery. Should be in "Advanced".
Hopefully I didn't goof up to bad. I have the Sprint Samsung Epic 4G touch. I installed samsung Kies, used Odin3 v1.85 to flash SPH-D710_Zedomax_Kernel.tar . That went fine, it re-booted, I have the super user icon. I downloaded set cpu to try and over clock a little, but it wouldn't let me overclock. Now when I enter the boot loader to install a kernel or rom from zip, i get the error "Signature Verification Failure" all I can do from there is re boot. I installed Rom Manager, got the clockwork mod from there, but I still have the same problem using that. Please help. Hopefully I didn't do anything wrong for my first post.
Look in advanced options I think it is for toggle signature verification in CWM.

Thank you. I will give that a try.
Well, I updated to the latest clockwork, and tried to reboot into clockwork recovery end got this : E: failed to verify whole-file signature E:signature verification failed. I also didn't see the option for signature verification.

It sounds like you're trying to flash the rom from Rom Manager. It won't work. Flash this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1268037
Then try it from recovery. Should work just fine.

Thank you. Odin is running with the correct file. Phone is in android system recovery <3e> and the usb cable is connected. Odin recognized the phone and I hit start. It has now been over 5 minutes, how long should I wait for something to happen ? I think I might try this on my laptop, something just isn't right.
Still no luck. Can I reset everything so it is just like it came from the sprint store?

Wait a second. You shouldn't be running Odin in the stock recovery. It should be in download mode, not recovery.
THANKS to everyone that has helped with this ! With your help, a lot of research, a lot of trial and error, and quite a bit of Jim Beam, I was able to work everything out. I am now running the Starburst Rom, Zedomax V3 dirty kernel, able to overclock, and all is well. THANKS !
I'm getting this error too when trying to flash the Midnight ROM. I don't see any advanced options to disable the signature verification.

That is the android recovery you need CWM to flash roms .... You need to hold Vol down and power to get to download mode then use odin to flash a kernel with cwm when you have CWM use that to flash rom
I used odin to flash and installed cwm.
Hold Vol up And power to get to cwm ..... Which kernel with cwm did you flash it sound like it didn't work

Sucess! just installed the latest version of zedomax with odin and all is well. Thanx for help.
So, I'm pretty sure I bricked my phone. Any help turning this around would help greatly. Here's how I got here. Plan was to Flash CyanogenMod 10. I rooted with no problems. Installed clockwork Mod on my phone. Created a backup of the stock Rom through ClockWork. Then backed up data to my removable SD card. I moved the CM-10 zip to the phone. Launched into recovery. Ran zip and it completed. On first boot got stuck on the CyanogenMod splash screen. After toying around with it (I believe clearing data in recovery). I finally got it to boot and went to install the Google apps zip the same way. That's when the real trouble started, now I can only get it to show the Samsung boot screen and then a blank screen.
I have attempted several How-to unbrick threads. However, the same thing happens to each one. I'll get them to work through Odin, but the phone will restart and go back to the same screen.
Thank you in advance for any help!
Just factory reset/wipe cache and dalvik and flash cm10 again, if I understand correctly you did not follow those steps when you flashed first time and those steps are necessary to be stable.

Did all that and attempted to run the CM zip in recovery can up with an error and stopped installation. Error is right after Installing update it say,

E: Error in /sdcard/CyanogenMod 10/cm-10-20121012-NIGHTLY-d2att.zip

I've been trying to move a new copy the CyanogenMod to the phone but I can't because it won't connect to the computer now. I can get it to download mode but don't know what to use. I attempted to use a stock file but the phone just reboots into black screen.

When I first tried flashing CM9/10 on my phone I got the same error. Weird thing is I didn't do anything special to fix it... I just went through a couple Touchwiz roms then a couple weeks later I tried a couple different AOSP ROM's and all of a sudden CM10 works now :s
Try a factory reset through recovery and see if you can flash any other ROMs or something.

Hi guys,
I am in a state of panic at the moment and really need your help. My galaxy note 2 (N7100) was on 4.1.1 and it used to restart every 15mins so I decided to flash the 4.1.2 via odin to fix it (as data factory reset wasn't helping at all).
So I flashed the rom (4.1.2) from sammobile through odin 3.07 and straight after the flashing process completes, the device restarts and goes to recovery 3e and gives me the following error:
Installation started
bla bla

e: failed to verify whole-file signature (in red)
e :failed to verify whole-file signature (in red)
e: signature verification failed
Installation aborted
Then if i choose to reboot device, it gets stuck at the samsung logo :'( and I cant do anything then. I can go to recovery again but even if i wipe everyyyything it doesnt make any difference.
I can install CWM recovery through odin and access it but I don't know what to do with it as I cant flash anything from there.
No matter what reigon stock rom I flash, it is not letting me get past through the samsung logo and straight after odin flash it goes to recovery 3e giving the error mentioned above.

what region you device belongs to , as you said you got CWM did you try with a custom rom ?
Since u can't put a custom ROM on the sd card I suggest u take our the sdcard put put it in a adapter then download a custom ROM and copy it to the sdcard then put it back into or phone and boot into recovery wipe all the phone and then flash the ROM from SD card to phone.
Unless u got a faulty recovery then it will work this way.
Ps. You can only do so if your phone is rooted.
