[Q] E:signature verification failed ClockWorkMod - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys
been searching for hours for a solution but can't find anything.
Installed Lambros Rom - all fine. I've booted into recovery to put my old rom on and I get the following error:
E: Can't Open/cache/recovery/command
--Install from sdcard--
Finding update package
Opening update package
Verifying update package
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
So i've reformatted the card, wiped the phone cache and tried several different rom and I get the same error. Using ClockWorkMod recovery and rom manager.
Can anyone help? Is this a common error?
Bootloader 0.80
Baseband 32.42.00.32U_5.09.00.20

I dont know very well but it can be about S-on-off issue

Try disabling verification in clockwork. From memory I think its under the advanced option. It says toggle verification. Hope this helps
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

It is the signature verification but to toggle it you need to (in recovery) go to 'install update from zip' and there should be the option to toggle it.

I have the same problem. My question is whether there is anything I can do to avoid this problem the next time I upgrade to a newer version of leedroid?
BTW my HTC Desire was unrooted using the unrevoked method and I'm currently running leedroid 2.2f.
Thanks in anticipation.

I still have bootloader 0.80 - this sort of indicates I didn't upgrade to the OTA 2.2 can someone back me up on this?
If I unroot my phone to 2.1 using a gold card and then re-root do you think this will work?

^ This.
All you have to do is go into recovery, install zip file from sd, and toggle the signature verification. This has happened to me a few times; I just simply toggled it, and the ROM flashed perfectly.

sorry for ressurecting, but i have a similar problem.
wanted to install a custom rom and for some reason it failed und bricked my phone.
i boot into fastboot, but every time i want to flash a new rom, it says "signatur verfication failed" and i do not have the option to toggle it off.
hboot 0.80

You need to be in recovery, not in fastboot.
Are you even rooted and have a custom recovery image?

You need a fake flash recovery image.
AmonRa version can be found here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=689778
download it, place it on SD card. Boot into fast boot, chose run update.zip and it will boot in to the fake flash this is where you get all the option you need.
Get back to me if you have an trouble.

I have exalty the same problem as you. I have been looking all over the place for a tutorial I could follow. I even downloaded a zip signer and tried to sign the update.zip file I downloaded from the leedroid thread on xda. It did not work.

From what I understand from the above:
You have the exact problem as you

I think if you're on the leaked 2.2 rom you won't be able to use clockwork recovery successfully. You'll have to downgrade to 2.1, root, install clockwork recovery and then install the rom.
That's what worked for me.

Install Clockwork recovery.
Then boot into recovery (after a nandroid backup) and toggle off verification.
Then you won't get the error when you apply the update.zip. You must do this in recovery.
Toggle off verification in Clockwork recovery:

Cheers!

I've read all these posts, but my phone refuses to show me the clockwork recovery menu.. no matter what I do, I always get the android system recovery menu..
Please help..
Also, I cant get my phone into recovery/download mode using the 3 button combo. I've tried every possible combination, but the only way I can get to the default 'android' recovery menu is by using the ROM Manager app.

Hey guys, if you're still having this 'Signature Verification Failed" nonsense and Clockwork Mod is not letting you flash anything, check this thread (on the third page, my post tells you the fix), I just solved my own issue
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=944426&page=3
Good luck, post back if you have questions/comments, I'll check back and hopefully find you solved your problems as I have
Cheers

just try flashing clockwork mod

I am having the same exact issues. But i have found a workaround that is working for me.
When presented with the error, i go to the "Advanced" menu and select "Reboot recovery". After rebooting, on my phone, the process will start as desired

by me the same problem, it always comes E: signatur verification failed

So turn off signature verification in recovery. Should be in "Advanced".

[Q] Stuck in hboot after manually applying OTA update.

I tried a manual install using "[Guide] How to apply the new OTA 3.29.651.5 when you have clockwork and s-off" (posted there too)
After the update, I'm stuck in HBOOT and can't start the phone at all.
Booting into recovery gives me a red exclamation. Doing up+volume, starts the stock recovery. It shows the error "E:can't open/cache/recovery/command"
I tried updating to a stock rom or a custom recovery (renaming each one to update.zip) but all of them fail the signature verification. I do have the "show known file type extensions" option set to visible, so I don't think it's the update.zip.zip problem I saw here.
Phone was rooted.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm phoneless

What H-Boot version do you have? I would try going here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=791019 and downloading the PC36IMG.zip file posted, rename it to PC36IMG.zip (make sure that if you hide file extensions in Windows, you don't have .zip on 2x) put it on the root of your SD card, go into bootloader...it will detect the file and when it asks you if you want to run the update, do it and it will update your system. Should fix you right up!
Thanks for the help! I actually just figured it out myself. I renamed the file I tried initially on the OP of the thread I mentioned and renamed that to update.zip. Updated in the stock recovery and it worked from there. Unrevoked still worked after (though S-Off didn't)
I tried the way you mentioned before, but it told me "old version." and wouldn't go through. I have hboot 0.97 now, which is probably the cause of the problem, plus S-ON, which I thought was OFF before.

[Q] Can't boot or flash anything on HTC Desire

Hi guys...
Well, I'm a total noob when it comes to Android in general, but I know a thing or two about rooting... The thing is... I managed to flash Oxygen ROM and it was all good... But then I tried to flash a stock HTC ROM and now I can't boot (red triangle) or even get into the recovery! All I can access is fastboot, HBoot and Android recovery. Whenever I try to flash files it sais "Signature failed" or something like that, and even when I tried to do it with the HBoot menu using a stock HTC ROM it kinda went like this: everythin OK except Radio_V2 (Bypassed) and HBoot (Error) so yeah... My Desire is now unusable and I have to use my crappy Xperia X10 Mini... HELP!
SOLVED: Thanks for the help!
Have you tried putting the update.zip (recovery) back on the sd card?
And what rom did you use?
If that does not work use a RUU, there are plenty of threads in Q&A on how to do that.

Tried the update.zip you provided, got the following error:
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:Signature verification failed
Installation aborted
Before my problems I used the latest stable Oxygen ROM, after it was the newest (European) Stock ROM for HTC Desire I could find.
And yeah... How do I use an RUU when I can't even boot the phone? I mean, it's an exe, is it not? Can u help me out a little more? sorry for my newbieness n_n
(GAH, I miss my Desire already T^T)
First disable signature verification in recovery, option can be found under 'install zip from sd' and try again.

The only option I have to "install from zip" is "Apply sdcard:update.zip" from the Android System Recovery (2e) menu, since yeah... Amon RA was removed when I tried to flash the stock rom... I've screwed up quite bad, haven't I?
Well yes you screwed up but it should not be to much trouble fixing it. Next time you flash a rom make sure it's designed to be flashed on a rooted desire.
But this guide should help to get the phone unrooted and working again, then you should be able to root again.

Tried to use that method now, got the following:
Reads the zip file and asks to update using it, I press Vol+ (yes) and the process of updating starts... After a while it vibrates and I see the following:
BOOT OK
BOOTLOADER Bypassed
RADIO_V2 Fail-PU
RADIO_CUST OK
RECOVERY OK
SPLASH1 OK
SYSTEM OK
USERDATA OK
Partition update fail!
Update Fail!
Do you want to reboot device?
<VOL UP> Yes
<VOL DOWN> No
I press VOL UP...
Aaaand I'm met with an infinate HTC boot screen... nothing happens.
When I try to enter recovery...And it's the same deal, met with the HTC boot logo... nothing ever happens... What can I do?! : /
Okaaay, this is embrassing... Just had to run an offical RUU with the phone in Fastboot... God I'm so stupid... Thanks anyways, guys!
Hehe, grattis Erik!
lol good to hear u solved it out

[Q] Rooting gone wrong/ I've made a big mistake

Hi everyone, I'm hoping someone can help me out here because I've screwed up somehow and would like to un-do whatever it is I've done. I'm trying to think straight so I hope what I type out ends up making sense .
1. Right now, my phone works. I'm stuck on a rooted pre-OTA stock rom. I unrooted once, but was not able to flash the OTA update via the stock recovery. I still have a use-able phone so I'm doing better than some people in threads I've read about.
2. I tried to root it with gfree. I don't think it worked, and some errors came up during the process. I used the first method then skipped to 0.2 per the wiki. Using g-free verify tells me everything is alright. supercid, sim lock, etc.
3. I am s-off, but earlier I couldn't get gfree verify to work (my own error I'm certain) and assumed I screwed up. Rom manager and root explorer never gave me prompts for superuser permissions, but I was s-off. I didn't think I rooted correctly and used the rage against the cage method.
4. Right now, I'm apparently s-off and rooted. I can't flash any roms though. I use rom manager to flash the latest recovery, it says it works and then when I reboot to recovery it stays stuck on the HTC splash screen. Battery pull takes me back to the pre-OTA rom. Recovery only recently stopped working though.
Ultimately, I need to get recovery back somehow, and then I'd return my phone back to an unrooted state with the stock 2.2 rom since I can't seem to handle rooting to well. Since I have no clockwork mod recovery, not really sure what to do to get this process rolling. If someone can help me get recovery back, and then help me flash roms again I'd definitely appreciate it. I have noone to blame but myself here.
If it ends up mattering, I do have adb installed and can use that if need be, and like I said my phone still boots up. I don't have a brick but something crazy is going on.

Hey thank you so much for a response! I tried this with two sd cards because I didn't have any luck. I tried that exact command and flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-clockwork-3.0.2.4-vision.img and each time it returns flash_image: not found
It definately is on my sd card.

Im fairly certain I had to flash it to root with the rage method, vol + pwr screen says "vision pvt eng s-off hboot 0.76.2000 (pc1010000)"
With adb it gives me the same error, but I used rom manager to flash 2.5.1.3 so I have a recovery again. I have one good nandroid of the rom im stuck on.
My next issue is that I tried to flash the stock rom with root from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=836042 and something isn't right. I wipe data/cache and then go to install zip from sdcard (manual recovery) and select the rom. What happens after is it tells me the normal messages it gives when flashing and "welcome to vision" but when the flash is done instead of giving me the option of "reboot system now" it goes back to the install zip for sd card menu like the flash never happened (and it will not boot past the htc screen)

Maybe it's a bad recovery. You said you flashed 2.5.1.3, so ROM Manager should work. Try flashing 3.0.2.4 through there now. If not, I suggest downloading Fastboot.

Thanks for the guide! I followed it with no issue, I rebooted into recovery; it first hung on the HTC screen, rebooted, vibrated and then booted back into the OS. So anyway, instead of 2.5.1.3, I'm on 3.0.0.5 now.
I went down to 2.5.1.3 and downloaded cm6.1 via rom manager. It told me this : E: can't open '/sdcard/..location (bad) installation aborted. tmp/recovery.log was copied to sdcard
I tried enom's froyo themed rom next, heres what recovery tells me:

E Can't symlink /system/bin/su
E Failure at line 19:

I also tried to download an updated superuser from the market, it says installation unsuccessful package file was not signed correctly.

If this is the Gingerbread OTA, you'll need everything as stock. If it's the "OTA" with Superuser thrown in, you'll need CWM Recovery 3+ (2.5* formats the system in yaffs, 3+ formats it in EXT).
This is just the ota update with wifi calling still 2.2, Im unrooted and stock recovery again

Help flashing - having huge problems

I'm really not a noob to flashing ROMs, in fact, I got pretty good at it with my Evo before I upgraded to the Galaxy 2.
So I got the phone rooted using Odin, now I need to install Clockworkmod recovery so I can flash some custom ROM's. Everytime I install clockworkmod using Odin, when my phone reboots, I can't get service, and the buttons on the bottom aren't working. The search button now turns into the menu key.
So how can I get this working right? Do I need clockworkmod to be able to install custom ROM's? Is there another way to install clockworkmod aside from using Odin? Because Odin just isn't working.
Any help is appreciated.
Why dont you get it off the market?

my phone is the same way, using the app, or booting into CWM it wont let me back up. I just flash the rom anyway... whatever. Not the best method, but ive installed plenty of roms and never had a problem. It would be nice to find out why though.
yeah, the problem is it isn't flashing. It just gives me that error which eventually forces me to reboot.
rom manager doesnt support this phone yet u have to odin eb30 with clockworkmod 4.0 which supports back up and restore .

Problem in installing a custom recovery for HTC Desire HD

Hello!
In the middle of the process in Advanced Ace Hack Kit something went wrong and the cmd window closed. So now when I turn on the phone it hangs in htc white screen. And now in recovery mod I only have htc default recovery with an option: “Apply sdcard:update.zip” but I get “signature verification failed”. From the forums I understand that I need somehow to install a custom recovery to get rid of signature verification and be able to flash rom again. I tried this thread: http ://android modaco com/topic/323305-18-nov-2512-r2-clockworkmod-recovery-for-htc-desire-hd with Paul's ClockworkMod recovery but unfortunately I get this error when trying to install it(image in attachment). Any ideas how to boot up the phone? Thank you in advanced.

if you can access stock recovery. Try resetting data/factory reset. It often solves the bootloops caused by software problems.
thank you for the suggestion but I have already tried every option in the stock recovery no changes so far. Does anyone know how to install custom recovery without apps from the market. And why do i get error(image in attachment) when trying Paul's ClockworkMod recovery. Are there any roms which I can flash with stock HTC recovery mode?
Problem solved. Needed to make a goldcard and then been able to flash with default RUU. Now my phone boots like it should!
