Hello!
In the middle of the process in Advanced Ace Hack Kit something went wrong and the cmd window closed. So now when I turn on the phone it hangs in htc white screen. And now in recovery mod I only have htc default recovery with an option: “Apply sdcard:update.zip” but I get “signature verification failed”. From the forums I understand that I need somehow to install a custom recovery to get rid of signature verification and be able to flash rom again. I tried this thread: http ://android modaco com/topic/323305-18-nov-2512-r2-clockworkmod-recovery-for-htc-desire-hd with Paul's ClockworkMod recovery but unfortunately I get this error when trying to install it(image in attachment). Any ideas how to boot up the phone? Thank you in advanced.

if you can access stock recovery. Try resetting data/factory reset. It often solves the bootloops caused by software problems.
thank you for the suggestion but I have already tried every option in the stock recovery no changes so far. Does anyone know how to install custom recovery without apps from the market. And why do i get error(image in attachment) when trying Paul's ClockworkMod recovery. Are there any roms which I can flash with stock HTC recovery mode?
Problem solved. Needed to make a goldcard and then been able to flash with default RUU. Now my phone boots like it should!

Guys, I need some help from you.
I already tried to search the tread but can't found the information I would like to get.
I tried to update my Desire rom following step on this page "(h)ttp://theunlockr.com/2010/06/07/how-to-load-a-custom-rom-on-the-htc-desire/" (note I already rooted my phone, and sorry I'm new member can't post the link correctly). Everything went well till step 7. Select Apply sdcard:update.zip.... then it fail to update. So, I rebooted my desire then it can't boot up to main screen (HTC Sense). So, I entered boot loader once again and selected Recovery mode. Now, it stuck at HTC white screen and doesn't go anywhere further than that.
I guess what cause this is "I didn't change the name of recovery package in step 1" so I might break some data? (please correct me if I'm wrong)
If this the case how should I fix it? Is there any suggestion?
Thank you in Advance
Now, I'm trying to flash RUU via fastboot. The process went well. However, after complete flash, it still can't boot to main screen. Will it help if I try to flash another RUU?
P.S. Phone shakes many time when I open it and then stuck on HTC white screen...
maybe this help you

Try unrEVOked, it will install a recovery image to your phone. Then enter recovery mode, it will be Clockworkmod then you choose install zip from SD card, browse until the .zip file and select it. Note that in clockworkmod you navigate with the trackball and select by pressing on the trackball.

I can confirm, that this should fix your problem.
I had the exact issue as you last night, but managed to finally fix it by using the unrevoked software to get recovery, then erasing cache, then flashing a new rom.

How can I use unrEVOked methode? I'm trying it and now stuck by the fact that I can't boot into Android right now. unrEVOked is asked me to enable USB debugging but I can't... Is there any way to perfrom unrEVOked without booting into Android?
Tried other RUU including Froyo one but still no hope...
I have flashed a few roms onto my desire and the one i am on now is the rooted Rooted Official HTC Android 2.2 (FroYo) ROM by nickiberli! It has come to the point in time when i wish to flash another chefs rom but i dont seem to be able to enter the recovery unlike all the others.
I can try the recovery files and the phone just stays on the red triangle the scripts say permission denied. The session has been run as root/ admin but i still keep getting the same error message.
If i try Rom manager / titantium non of them can enter recovery mode to flash and clockwordmod cannot boot into it either.
I can enter the bootloader fine and the android blue recovery menu but the only options i am presented with are wipe and reboot.
In the past i have had the red triangle (after selecting recovery in the boot loader), gone into recovery mode and flashed with whatever rom i feel fit.
superuser is enabled on the phone and the apps do have the required access but why does the recovery script report permission denied?
I'd try flashing a fresh ruu to take it back to stock, then start over.
I'd check that your rom hasn't modified the update.zip if you used a fake flash.
I am not too sure what that is i just followed the guide here post #2
"•Root guide for users who have unbranded(unlocked) Desire - post #2"
rooted, flashed with the rom i mentioned and now this is where i am, i believe the rom comes rooted
I have the exact same problem.
I have CM6 installed and it's really hit and miss when it comes to getting into recovery.
I have tried holding down and power up, I have tried rom manager and I have tried reboot in CM6 and selecting recovery.
The only way I can get into recovery is through Unrevoked, although now and again rom manager will work.
I have tried multiple times today and just can't get into recovery!!!
I'm just glad it isn't just me.
Out of interest to the OP, how old is your phone? Mine is only a week old.
EDIT: Ironoically after trying several times today I managed to get into recovery using rom manager. But still, this is very hit and miss!!
Hi Guys
been searching for hours for a solution but can't find anything.
Installed Lambros Rom - all fine. I've booted into recovery to put my old rom on and I get the following error:
E: Can't Open/cache/recovery/command
--Install from sdcard--
Finding update package
Opening update package
Verifying update package
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
So i've reformatted the card, wiped the phone cache and tried several different rom and I get the same error. Using ClockWorkMod recovery and rom manager.
Can anyone help? Is this a common error?
Bootloader 0.80

I dont know very well but it can be about S-on-off issue
Try disabling verification in clockwork. From memory I think its under the advanced option. It says toggle verification. Hope this helps

It is the signature verification but to toggle it you need to (in recovery) go to 'install update from zip' and there should be the option to toggle it.
I have the same problem. My question is whether there is anything I can do to avoid this problem the next time I upgrade to a newer version of leedroid?
BTW my HTC Desire was unrooted using the unrevoked method and I'm currently running leedroid 2.2f.
Thanks in anticipation.

I still have bootloader 0.80 - this sort of indicates I didn't upgrade to the OTA 2.2 can someone back me up on this?
If I unroot my phone to 2.1 using a gold card and then re-root do you think this will work?

^ This.
All you have to do is go into recovery, install zip file from sd, and toggle the signature verification. This has happened to me a few times; I just simply toggled it, and the ROM flashed perfectly.
sorry for ressurecting, but i have a similar problem.
wanted to install a custom rom and for some reason it failed und bricked my phone.
i boot into fastboot, but every time i want to flash a new rom, it says "signatur verfication failed" and i do not have the option to toggle it off.

You need to be in recovery, not in fastboot.
Are you even rooted and have a custom recovery image?

You need a fake flash recovery image.
AmonRa version can be found here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=689778
download it, place it on SD card. Boot into fast boot, chose run update.zip and it will boot in to the fake flash this is where you get all the option you need.
Get back to me if you have an trouble.

I have exalty the same problem as you. I have been looking all over the place for a tutorial I could follow. I even downloaded a zip signer and tried to sign the update.zip file I downloaded from the leedroid thread on xda. It did not work.
From what I understand from the above:
You have the exact problem as you
I think if you're on the leaked 2.2 rom you won't be able to use clockwork recovery successfully. You'll have to downgrade to 2.1, root, install clockwork recovery and then install the rom.
That's what worked for me.
Install Clockwork recovery.
Then boot into recovery (after a nandroid backup) and toggle off verification.
Then you won't get the error when you apply the update.zip. You must do this in recovery.
Toggle off verification in Clockwork recovery:

Cheers!
I've read all these posts, but my phone refuses to show me the clockwork recovery menu.. no matter what I do, I always get the android system recovery menu..
Please help..
Also, I cant get my phone into recovery/download mode using the 3 button combo. I've tried every possible combination, but the only way I can get to the default 'android' recovery menu is by using the ROM Manager app.

Hey guys, if you're still having this 'Signature Verification Failed" nonsense and Clockwork Mod is not letting you flash anything, check this thread (on the third page, my post tells you the fix), I just solved my own issue
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=944426&page=3
Good luck, post back if you have questions/comments, I'll check back and hopefully find you solved your problems as I have
Cheers
just try flashing clockwork mod
I am having the same exact issues. But i have found a workaround that is working for me.
When presented with the error, i go to the "Advanced" menu and select "Reboot recovery". After rebooting, on my phone, the process will start as desired
by me the same problem, it always comes E: signatur verification failed
So turn off signature verification in recovery. Should be in "Advanced".
I'll run through a history:
- Rooted my phone to S-OFF and installed a custom ROM
- Installed another custom ROM after running a 'super wipe' script
- Decided I wanted to go back, tried to get to clockworkmod recovery but I couldn't get to hboot
- Tried to re-root, got halfway and it failed. I could now get to hboot but when I get to clockworkmod recovery it shows an error logo with a danger triangle sign. When I try to boot it just stays on the HTC logo.
- The first time I tried to load Clockworkmod it said it couldn't access some /cache/ directory and now it just shows the warning icon with no error message.
I think I need to reinstall Clockworkmod, then use that to reinstall a ROM. I heard it's possible to do this by flashing a zip file from the SDcard and loading hboot. How can I do this?
Thanks!

That red triangle is HTC's recovery mode. You should manage to get root via one click root and then flash clockwork normally. In the app.
Thanks. What exactly is one click root? Have googled it but not sure which it is.
I think you might mean this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857537
But that seems to require that I can boot into a ROM in the first place? I can't get past the HTC logo at all.

No that is S-OFF. You need S-OFF if you want to flash custom rom. This is what I meant http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
Thanks again. Just to clarify, on hboot it tells me it's 'S-OFF' at the top of the screen. I should run the one click utility anyway, right?
I don't think superone click works on dhd but I could be wrong. Haven't read up on it in a long time.
But back to original question on hand. I made a guide in the general section for this exact issue. It titled stuck in hboot. Their I have a link for cwr in a pd98 format(flashable through hboot).
It should work for you. I did notice that the modelid in the txt is different but was told it should work for dhd with no modification but I have not confirmed as I have an inspire. If it doesn't work let me know and ill make the change quickly and uplaod a new one. Its a simple change. If you want to can try. Simply change the model I'd to pd98100000 from pd9812000
Thank you, I will try that now.
...And it worked! Thanks all

I have a similar problem. I tried to flash a galaxy rom on to my htc evo 4g and now my phone wont boot up. I actually need instructions on how to do this. When I try to flash recovery it goes into HBOOT and also goes into bootloader. But when I try recovery it goes to the white HTC Evo 4g screen and immediately goes back to Hboot. Iv tried to download a clockworkmod custom recovery img and flash it as a PC36IMG zip. It finds the zip and says parsing PC36IMG but doesn't ask if I want to flash it and goes back into bootloader. I renamed the recovery image "Recovery" and the Zip "PC36IMG" as instructed from a different website. I can ONLY use this method because my micro port is broken.
Also when I downloaded the recovery image there were two choices. Recovery image and recovery touch image. We should I go with?

I tell you how to over come this:
1) Throw your phone into the trash can
2) Buy a new one
3) Come back to xda
4) Read all the tutorials once again
5) Read them again
6) Re-read them
7) Now do whatever you want.
This method works perfectly for any noob...

Sorry but what are you talking about an EVO 4g in the DHD forums??...BTW, in the zip file you need a .txt file to be able to be flashed. If that file is missing then the hboot will never detect the .zip file.
Besides, if you have an unlocked bootloader you won't be able to flash recovery in that way. You can do it using fastboot flash commands...
Hi all it's the first time I post here because it's the first time i need to post here
You are all fantastic guys thanks for all!
Ok I got my HTC Wildfire S Europe unbranded, S-ON, Bootloader unlocked via HTCdev.
I can't install ANY recovery on it.
Here's what i've tried:
- Putting P**.img in sdcard. The sd has been firstly not goldcard and then i have "goldcarded" it.
- Flash the recovery by fastboot (fastboot flash recovery recoveryname.img)
Everytime i try to flash the operation comes successful but, when I try to boot to recovery, it stucks forever on HTC Logo.
What do I make wrong?
I can't install any rom because everyone comes in .zip ...
Root your phone, install Rom manager from the play store and select "Download Clockworkmod Recovery" then "Flash Clockworkmod Recovery"
SOunds like the issue I had, I couldn't install it either, until someone pointed out that I needed a CDMA version of the recovery (CWM).

Try that. My new issue is that it freezes on CWM< maybe you won't have this issue, let me know.

Try that. Install using fast boot if you can't install it in hboot.
It's CWM 4.0X.X (forgot exact numbers)
It worked for me, my phone no longer freezes and I was able to install roms without any issues.
It correctly flashed but when I boot into recovery it stucks as always at HTC Logo.
But why?
I would contact this guy.

I don't remember any 4.0.X.X recovery for the wildfire S... strange.
@OP - Try alquez's CWM recovery.
Here: http://www.mediafire.com/?p2p88udo32m9xcg
Place the zip in the root of your SD Card, reboot into bootloader by pressing Vol + and Power, let it scan..... bla bla bla it will install.
Then enter Recovery and see if that works. That's the only way I see possible. Or try the above recovery.
Good luck!
I have alredy tried alquez's recovery.
I remember that firstly it said "Cid Error" then after i goldcarded my sdcard it said "Main Version is Older" and it didn't install.
BTW the main reason I'd like to flash a recovery is that I'd like to root again the phone after the last update. The only method I've seen is to flash root.zip via cwm because other one-click programs no longer works.
It looks like it's a damned phone...
