Hi, let me explain my problem:
I have a desire with power button broken.
last 6 months i use it normally wiht a rooted room (but s-on). When i want to turn on the device I pull off and on the battery twice.
Recently i installed an application and after a reboot the device keeps stuck in the initial splash animation.
So, i ONLY can access to HBoot (0.93 S-on). But i can't enter to recovery to erase userdata and format all and reboot a new room (as usual) because Hboot enter key is the ****ing power button XD.
I tryed to S-OFF in linux with alpharev 1.8 or revolutinary when showing splash but they start and suddenly stop because smthg was wrong.
So the only thing i can do is send basic HBoot commands.
any idea?

You can download Quick Boot (Reboot) from market. Use it to Reboot, Recovery, Bootloader or Power Off.
Anyway, you're posting this in wrong section, should be in Q&A.

Mate, his device is not even reaching the bootanimation, I wonder what kind of market you suppose him to have to use it in splashscreen or bootloader?

Haha.. I got confuse with his statement " When i want to turn on the device I pull off and on the battery twice." So I thought he can boot the phone Wrong section wrong answer
Thanks anyway
Code:
[strike]fastboot oem gencheckpt[/strike]
Good development you've got going here.
Mate flash an original wwe stock rom with its own flash utility (just run the executable) but you will loose root after that use the alpharev utility once your phone has started.

I had this same problem a while ago. Tried many apps to work around power button (mine was stuck "pressed"). Got to the point where I couldn't do anything without getting into recovery. Used a spare phone until I ordered the flex cable assembly from Ebay.. $40 or so..
Despite many years of working with electronics, it was still quite nerve racking to swap the part out... you have to re-use your camera module and a couple plastic parts stuck to the original (on back of volume buttons i think).
Read instructions and watched videos online several times before starting, and again as I did the work, and size/fit was ever so slightly off... but everything works now and I am a relieved and happy camper
I see the development is active for 4 days now.

Recently switching from a iPhone to HTC One X I was absolutely loving my new phone for almost a month. But all of a sudden yesterday the screen stops working. It simply does not display anything. But the touch screen still works, and phone works too(if i swipe i can hear the phone unlocking, press home it vibrates, etc, basically phone is working, but display is not). This is not the first time this happened. It happened 3 days ago for about an hour and the screen started working by itself after the hour. But after the last time the screen stopped working it hasn't come back on(i was hoping it would, but it has been 2 days). Also i feel like I should mention this, both times the screen stopped working i was using Nes.Emu(a NES emulator). The screen didn't turn off suddenly, at first the screen stopped responding, stuck at like an image. I noticed the phone was working even then, but the screen just wasn't responding. After that i locked the phone and the display went dark, and hasn't come back on since. I even boot into bootloader and it still wasn't working.
Now i wont get any warranty as i unlocked the bootloader thus voiding the warranty. Currently have ARHD 6.1.0 rom on it. I have no idea what to do. I was guessing somehow going back to stock, then relocking the bootloader before taking it to HTC, dunno if they'll do it under warranty. But thats not my biggest issue. I am travelling South Asia this summer(bought the phone from India), and basically dont know how the hell do i even give it to an HTC support center, cause I'll have to come back to the support center to pick it backup and i wont be in any place that long.
Tried holding the power button for 30 seconds?
try running an RUU that matches your cid/sw version (1.29.XXX.11).
Look here for the RUU that matches your sw version. Don't forget to flash stock recovery and run fastboot OEM lock before you run the RUU.

Will running an RUU that matches my CID return me to stock firmware? I thought that only updated the Hboot or something?
Yeah, it also re-locks the phone.
Its worth a try. Can you not even get the bootloader up? Poer button + vol down?

Yeah, I assume i can get into bootloader since the rest of the phones works fine. But the screen does not even work in bootloader. I will try doing what you suggested, but kind of hard without the screen.
It sounds like Hardware fault rather than software.

Yep, but i want to be on default software with a relocked bootloader before i send it to HTC. Since you're a Docomo user i'll assume you're from India. I was wondering if you have any idea about HTCs service in India? How much time do you think will it take them to sort this issue out?
Can't you use recovery mode and restore a backup?
Before you start with the emulator again you could test for a few days without it and see how your screen responses?
Other things you can try is flash a different rom?
Even return to stock is an option to investigate?
Reading your story it doesn't look like a hardware failure but more as a software bugger.
Just a taught.

Yes, it returns the phone to the stock state. RELOCK before using the RUU. Install the correct stock recovery before relock. A link to stock recoveries are in the cwm thread.

Well it seems that i am just out of luck. It turns out the RUU that I will be needing 1.29.720.11 is not yet available for download
I do have a Nandroid backup of my stock rooted rom if it will work somehow
That's all you need.
I encountered the exactly same problem as you did. HTC replaced the main board and battery for me, problem solved. Hope this helps

Thanks for the offer iTeeXDA, but i managed to get back to stock(using nandroid backup). The issue seemed to be that i had named the folder of the backup rom(no spaces).
Now what should i do next? I imagine i should be reflashing stock recovery right? Then relocking the bootloader? Will i run into issues cause i came back to stock from a nandroid backup?
EDIT:So, ok, i went back to stock recovery and relocked bootloader. Phone keeps booting into hboot after i relock bootloader. I've unlocked the bootloader again and the phone seems to have booted
If u can't see anything then HTC people also won't be able to see anything..so go ahead with the phone as it is..n as somebody has already told u that they will be replacing your board the firmware is gonna be gone anyways..I guess I am correct here ...
N this is India man..here HTC people cannot even tell the screen resolution of the phone..forget about the bootloader..happened with me when I took my Note to Samsung ..

Hi guys, well I'm a new HTC One X owner and I just jumped ship from the iPhone. I had jailbroken my iPhone several times with only minor problems in the past so I thought I'd give it a try on the One X. Unfortunately, I think I've really screwed something up and now when i boot it up, it vibrates and then hangs at the HTC Quietly Brilliant screen. So here's what I did:
I downloaded Hasoon2000's HTC One X All-In-One v.1.1 kit. I followed the instructions and as far as I could tell, everything worked fine. The bootloader was unlocked and I was able to root the phone. However, after installing a couple of apps which all crashed when I tried to run them (it made the phone restart), I decided to do a factory reset and do it again. So i held onto the power button + volume down and went into the Bootloader and tried to reset it which then took me to the CWM 5.8.4.0 screen. I then did the factory reset there which led me to where I am now.
Could someone please tell me where to proceed from here to bring it back up and running normally again? As you can probably tell, I know next to nothing about Android so I would really appreciate some patience and step by steps. I've already scoured Google looking for a solution but I could never understand what people were talking about. If you need any more information to give you a better diagnosis, please let me know and maybe tell me how to find the information
Thanks a lot people, any help would be much appreciated!

Sorry, I'm embarrassed to say that I'm not sure exactly what you mean. By that, do you mean did I install a non-stock OS? If so, then the answer would be no. I did flash the recovery with CWM 5.8.4.0 but I have a feeling that, that's not what you meant.

Thanks a lot man! Could you...please tell me how to do that? I saw a few threads discussing soft-bricks and they suggested downloading some stuff and then plugging the phone into the PC and typing some commands into cmd. But when I connect my phone into my PC i get no response, even when I'm in the Bootloader screen.
And also, does it matter which version of the official firmware i get? I saw people mentioned RUU files but it had to match my phone's version. Does this have anything to do with that?
I believe you should just plug the phone and run your factory ruu and that would do it and bring the phone back to stock.
Heres where u can get the ruu, am not sure whats the codename for the international hox but i think this is it. Please make sure you are using the correct ruu for your phone.

You should probably read up before trying this again. If you can hold the power button and volume down. It should bring you into a menu. You should press the volume down button until fast boot is highlighted and then press the power button to select it. Download htc sync and install the drivers. Go to the one x development section and download the ruu for your device. Then run the ruu.

Thanks a lot for the responses guys. That link you gave me says that they are ROMs for Endeavor, is that the same as a ruu? And also, how do i figure out which ruu is right for me? I'm in Switzerland and my carrier is Orange but I see several ruus there under orange but none of them are for Switzerland and there are even different version numbers. In my current state, is there a way for me to find out which version I need?
By the way, when I try to connect my phone to my PC in fastboot mode and open cmd prompt and type in "fastboot getvar cid", i get "'fastboot' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file." If i click Fastboot on my phone and then HBOOT whilst plugged into the PC, i get a few lines on my phone saying that it "Failed to open USB master mode" and then "please plug off USB".

okay, I didn't realise I had to install fastboot on my PC. So i just configured it following the directions here: http://dottech.org/tipsntricks/2153...ows-computer-for-use-with-your-android-phone/
and now when my phone is hooked up to my PC and i type "fastboot getvar cid" into cmd prompt, i get this:
cid: None
finished. total time: 0.004s
So what does this mean?
Download an app from the marketplace and see what that comes up with. Also go into settings about phone software information then software number. What is the software number?

You are going to need to find out wich ruu version u need. I dont know how carriers identify themselves on europe. After you identify it get into the bootloader menu get on fastboot and the open the ruu you downloaded the software should do everything by itself. Btw if you do this your going back to stock that means no root no cwm or wtever you had your going to have to do everything again but at least you got the phone working. Once you identify the ruu you need i would not download the latest version just in case the carrier fixed the root method or something. Again i dont know much about how europe works and how bossy carriers are about rooting/unlocking bootloader. You can try asking on that same thread for the one you need. Someone elsr might have an answer. Good luck.
Ps. Am not sure if you are going to need to relock the bootloader in order for the ruu to run. Can someone shed some light on this?
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda premium
Btw before you do that have you tried getting on the recovery??? Can you get on cwm?? If u can do that i believe there no need to flash the ruu instead just flash a different rom maybe??? Did you get to make a backup before this happened??

Thanks a lot joker96. I can get into CWM, so how would i flash a different rom? Unfortunately, the only backups I made are of my personal files and apps, I didn't think to backup anything else.

Oh derp sorry I completely forgot. You would download a different rom and follow the guides on the thread to install it. Wipe davlik cache, cache and data. Try ARHD.

Well the thing is, I'm not 100% sure what I did. First I did a factory reset on CWM and everything worked fine, but when my phone rebooted, I realised CWM was still there. What i wanted was to go back to square one, as in no recovery and no root. So i went back into recovery and wiped some other stuff, and that's when this happened. I know, I'm a total idiot, I don't know what i was thinking
Yea a different rom to what you had maybe that one had problems. ARHD is Android Revolution HD any other rom would work though. Just pick one from the development section.

Well i just took a look at the ARHD thread and I'm stuck on the second line of instructions: "Download "Super Wipe" script & place it on your SD card (optionally if coming from earlier version of my ROM, obligatory if coming from stock or other custom ROM)"
I have no access to my SD card, when i plug it into my PC, nothing happens because all i can do is go into recovery and bootloader.
Just a question, if I try to use the wrong ruu, what would happen?
Alright, so I'm just completely at a loss here.
Bought an HTC One X off ebay several months ago [like 5 months], phones been working no problem.
Today, the Jelly Bean update comes: GREAT!
Try downloading, nothin' doin.
Phone gets stuck at the "development purposes only" screen during update, a screen I have never seen and does not pop up during normal boot.
Hard restart phone, now saying sim card not found.
Try to factory reset both through phone menus and the recovery menus, both of those get stuck on the same screen.
Can't use my phone to make phone calls, not getting the update.
Been surfing forums for a few hours now, no idea what to do.
Halp?
Dude, this is the international one x section, go to the AT&T forum and DO NOT EVER install anything here unless you want a brick.
Oh yeah, try flash a RUU

Well ****, i thought this was the right one
I ran the RUU for the att one x, and now it works, but says I have no sim installed. So I have a phone that turns on, crashes during update, and cant make calls.
I have an HTC One M9, all stock, locked, and untampered with but I cannot boot into Recovery. I can boot into Download mode, and the Bootloader but when I try to go from the Bootloader to the Recovery menu it gives me the red triangle exclamation point and then does nothing. I've talked to Verizon no service and they just read from the screen, hold the vol button blah blah blah. Talked to best guy's geek squad and they had no clue what a Bootloader or Recovery mode were, so I'm here where I know the community is all about phones. Anyway I've tried factory resetting from the menu and going looking for Recovery I've tried with SD and SIM removed, I've tried with both removed before after and during a FR. Same result. I'm thinking either someone had installed spyware on the device or this app called Google Device Policy are doing me from accessing it? I'm trying right now to find out of somehow I have a Corp over stock return cause everything I've come across on that device policy app says it's used by Corps and the government for tracking device usage. It doesn't appear in any list I've been able to find for native apps installed on HTC or more specifically the M9. Hopefully here I won't get asked why I want to boot into Recovery, hahaha.
Well it seems this one even stumps the pros. At the minimum I thought someone would have heard of that Google Device Policy app and commented. Well tomorrow I'm contacting my insurance co and seeing if this would qualify as a defect and try to have it replaced. I mean I can't get locked out of my phone cause I'd have no way to reset it in order to get back into it. One last thing, I was able to select to disable that policy app but disabled or not I still have no recovery menu. And of course it's not one that can be uninstalled.
I've also considered that my soon to be ex may have placed a spy app on the device. From what I've read they can prevent the device being FR, I'm assuming to prevent themselves from being uninstalled. Some require root which my device says that it has not been, and she is not savvy enough on her own to accomplish. I can FR from the menu but I'm not sure this doesn't stimulate a FR or something crazy like that... Which again I think would require root... And around we go again. Hey crazy ex's while going thru divorce can make you a little noidded, which maybe I am but it still doesn't trump the fact that I have no recovery and there's this strange app on the phone I can see and maybe something I can't???

Thanks man, you are a lifesaver. I just updated my HTC One M8 to marshmallow and couldnt find the right combination to enter recovery. I tried everything and nothing worked until THIS!
i cannot believe how ridiculously difficult HTC made it do get into stock recovery.
I had SAME problem for hours!! trying to load the stupid stock recovery. i tried Labtofers instructions pressing all 3 buttons after selecting "recovery" in menu. then i tried Android revolution rom said press vol up then power. didn't work. (but they did say try other combinations). then tried vold down and power. it just got back to bootloader and download mode. . then I read this thread, and after hold power THEN CLICK VOL UP! did it. (tks guys). this instruction should be in ALL the recovery OP threads. so stupid HTC os sometimes. (... and I still can't xxxx install OTA update from phone, even though my new replacement phone is completely stock!)

This is my second M9, and my first M9 already had so many problems before also. rant over. sorry had to get that out. the how to get to stock recovery was just last straw today. peace)

Just a sidenote: It's explained in the FAQ of the ReadMe thread which is pinned at the top of the General and the Q&A section. So this thread is not the only place where the key combination gets mentioned.
