[Q] Stock Rom and CM10.1 Kernel? - HTC One X

Just registered to post this. I'm a long time lurker on the site starting back with my desire hd. I have flashed a lot of different roms and its been great. Until now. I have most recently had an HTC One X and today got the HTC ONE. I now want to sell/trade in my One X but i face this predicament: I have been using the Official CM10.1 RC on my one X until now and I have on it RC5. Recently my usb port seems to have packed in and will no longer transfer data or be recognised at all by my PC or any other computer. I want to return to stock - or at least stock based rom but I now can't go back and flash the appropriate Boot image. SO my question is: are there any sense/stock based roms that will work with the CM10.1 kernel? If anyone knows or can help that would be great.
Thanks

No, sir. It's not possible to return to stock with a busted USB connector. (Without s-off) Also there's no stock based sense ROM than would work with cm10.1 kernel.
Sorry but you gotta leave the ROM how it is.
Have you tried another cable? How about cleaning the port with compressed air?

Yeah I was pretty sure this was the case - just checking if someone such as yourself with better knowledge than I might have a last ditch solution! Saw you post a similar reply in a similar thread. I guess the £160 i would get has now shrunk to £60 (recycle value). Do you think i'd be better selling on ebay than recycling?

I think you should try to sell it first. (Make it clear that the device is broken)
If nobody wants to buy, recycle it.

Hmm just had a quick look on ebay there. Looks as though faulty devices aren't going for much any more than the £60 i've been offered - so I think i'll just recycle! Thanks for your help by the way :good:

What ROM would you like to see?!?

What sort of ROM would people like to see for the A100?!? Any particular wishes?
Personally I'd like to see a ROM that gives you slightly better battery life and the ability to under and overclock. (Tegra2 is pretty good for overclocking, no?)
That way you could set it for 1200mhz or higher for when you really need some speed, and underclock it to 600 or 800 mhz for a nice long plane trip. You should still be able to watch a couple of movies, but you'll get two hours more batterylife or thereabouts.
What I'd REALLY REALLY like to see in a future ROM, is a port of either HTCs tablet ROM or the Touchwiz ROM from the Galaxy 10.1.
Nothing beats Samsungs Touchwiz for smoothness from what I've seen, and since they use the same Tegra SoC it shouldn't be too hard to port, eh?
The HTC ROM would be pretty cool to have as an option, especially if it would be able to use the HTC Watch app.
What do you guys hope for?
First A500 ROM (Taboonay, Villain...) should be port to A100 easily ! (I hope !)
Then I'm not waiting at all for touchwiz or sense ROM cause Honeycomb is already nice...
The biggest thing on my wish list is native bluetooth PAN like the Xoom has. And tun.ko built into the kernel.
As for what ROM With ICS so close is it worth the effort to build a 3.2 ROM other then to get working drivers?
First we need a recovery. I have tried the A500 CWM with no luck. I have also contacted Koush via his blog http://www.koushikdutta.com/ requesting help with porting CWM to the A100 with no response. Anyone know how to get the ball rolling for a recovery?

Porting CWM is not the problem. In fact, the A500 CWM may work, if you can get it booted. The problem is, when you flash the recovery partition with CWM, you can no longer boot into recovery due to a checksum mismatch that the bootloader performs. The bootloader is encrypted, so can't modify it.
<Sepculation>
I am wondering though.. I believe the A100 and A500 are very similary in hardware (except the screen size). I wonder if it's possible to flash the bootloader from A500 to the A100. Kind of like downgrading the A500 from the new 3.2 back to 3.01. hmm.... i may have to visit best buy.
</speculation>

More USB goodies, and make it run games/apps as well as well as the A500. I want my Stupid Zombies and Dolphin for Pad back. Better battery life would be swell too.

So my acer a100 is rooted (since day one), I'm guessing there is no need to do a NAND unlock on these?
Also, what are the honeycomb roms (is there any?)
When i had my DINC i liked CM7 but i really dont want android < 3.2 on my tab (seems like a step backwards).

You have a great point here. With ICS just around the corner for this device (January IIRC) any Devs would be probably rather wait to put their effort in once that arrives.
I think it will take many polite requests for someone (Developer) to grab hold of this one. Or one of them to buy one and want to hack the heck out if it for themselves as well as us. I'm an avid hacker/tester but not a developer sadly. I wish I had more time to learn code and to develop. However, 60 hours a week (6 days) of work with a wife and 3 kids limits my free considerably.
Devs will defenetly wait for the ics to be release
Until ICS arrives I am happy with being able to root the device without unlocking the boot loader. But having a custom recovery like CWM would be great, let's wait and see what the Devs do after ICS arrives.
A solid AOSP ICS and ICS MIUI with CWM just to back up would be AMAZING...

Dude, hear hear. Once I have CWM on my tablet, I'm gonna be such a happy customer. Especially if some dev wants to port 4.0-based MIUI to it...that would be phenomenal.

Clockwork would be great so we can have the confidence to mess up our machines
The encrypted locked bootloader hinders devs from doing dev work on it. With amazing hardware, I'm hoping the devs will work this after Acer rolls out ICS next month, hopefully. I really like to have a custom recovery so I can at least do a nandroid backup in case I eff'd up even the stock ROM.
For ROMs I like, definitely CM or MIUI.

HTC One V Dead

So I bought my gf a one v and she loves it. One month after using it (stock, unrooted) it just went dead. Doesn't charge and doesn't get into bootloader (but not the QHSUSB_DLOAD and Blank Screen issue). Guy at repair told me that this was an issue with the ICS kernel causing a hard brick. Now, I naturally sent phone for repair since it is a warranty case. So far so good, lets just hope they get it done fast.
My question is though: should I root device and flash another ROM with presumably no such issues so I can avoid a future brick? I mean, I'm using a rooted desire and have no issues for over 2 years, now just didn't want to mess with the new phone of my gf and thought 'hey, lets keep it stock'... But the thought that it would die again after having it repaired is really discouraging. My gf is kind of frustraded and I don't want this to happen again. But are there such issues with custom ROMs for the One V? Like I said, I'm using the good old desire and don't know much about the one v, so I would really apreciate if you can tell me - because if such an issue is possible on custom roms, there is no point to bother flashing and voiding warranty.
Thanks for your time guys!
Well at the moment we have only modified stock ROM for this device and one custom kernel (in beta state) which is still an ICS kernel.
However you''ll never know whether this happens again or not. But one thing you can know for sure is that if you unlock the bootloader and install a custom kernel and ROM and it happens again then your are screwed because you lost your warranty.
Maybe you should wait a bit for some stable custom rom. Because an unstable and buggy ROM would make your gf even more frustrated and andgry
Oh well, thanks for the insight my friend..So, If I got this right, if I root and flash one of the current roms and it bricks again, I will still not be able to acces bootloader? And is this really a kernel issue with ICS? I'm willing to even flash a GB rom, if it is possible, in order to avoid this...gf won't mind for sure lol, if this delivers a stable phone in the future
P.S. Does this even happen with other ICS roms/on other stock ICS devices? Or did HTC just screw up on this one? I can understand a phone bricking when changing hboots or other tinkering, but just dieing like that is pretty damn stupid. And from what I read it happens to quite a few other one v users...Hope noone of you guys gets to experience this crap

1. In no other galaxy, no other planet... IT IS NOT A KERNEL FAULT! it may at well be a piece of poorly made phone. you should get another one from the warranty. I can 100% say that you will not have any problems. The kernel doesn't suddenly causes hard brick to your phone. If it does, do you know how many phones running ICS are there? Or One V's...
I have flashed alpha/beta/final kernels/roms for millions of times, no problems whatsoever.
in no way this is a kernel/soft problem. more likely the flash drive from your gf's phone, died!

Thx dude, I was sort of wondering how this could really be a kernel problem, since the guy over at the repair told me so - 'Its a kernel issue with ICS'... well, I hope he was really wrong and the device we receive (hopefully soon) will be proper

That guy should really make his homework. In no way a kernel can brick the phone. If this was true, the phone will not boot and work for weeks in the first place. Its not like the kernel has a "time-bomb" inside and it triggers when it is set.
As I said, it is a phone problem, something hardware has failed.
Hopefully it will be fixed for you gf and she will not have any problems in the future.
It happens in India too
My htc one v got bricked suddenly while using it. Forums at internet says it happens if battery charge goes below certain limit. Mine it went down to 24%
It happened to me when my battery level was 14%. now I have to pay 200$ for repairs. (because I live in Iran.)

But is this all right: did this happen to you: Lag on YouTube and other apps after installing a Fresh Official Stock ICS ??
Should I make a ''scandal'' at Acer Service and claim my fkin money back (because im tired of going back every week to acer: always having a lot of lagg on youtube and other apps and they change 3 times the motherboard and still not workin' good, i want to hear what u say) ?!!
P.S: Thanks for you help pio
I rooted and installed a custom ROM pretty much the day I got my A100 (2 months ago). Never had any lag problems with it and I use Youtube almost daily. Before you throw the tablet back in Acer's face I would suggest going with one of those. Follow the instructions carefully and you shouldn't have any problems.

Yes, I made this before sendin the 5th time to ACER SERVICE

OK for one, your language is starting to get offensive, i understand your obvious frustration, but some of the names being used aren't necessary.
Second, you obviously dislike the tablet, revert it back to stock ICS and return or sell it and buy an apple product or something newer.
The fun part of android is the custom ROMs, tweaking it to run better, and just playing with it. You don't want that, you want a device that runs like a tegra3 and runs 100% perfect at all times, but want it from an old device with a poor stock kernel and ROM. We've offered some advice, you can take it or leave it, its your choice, of course.
Try custom ROMs, even cm10, it may help your performance issues.
Try a custom kernel, on a stock ROM it may help smooth it out as well.
Stay stock and live with its performance.
Sell/return the a100 and see about getting a different device that does what you want and go with that instead. Be sure to test it heavily for what you want, games, YouTube, whatever you want most.
If its been through that many repairs and performs the same each time, its safe to say you will never be happy on stock with the a100.

Its been pretty well documented that Acer's implementation of ICS on this tablet was rather lacking, but a few tweaks and a custom kernel later and this thing flies. So you need to ask yourself. Should I sell this tablet or should I try a custom ROM. If you have had the thing for 6 months its pretty unlikely that Acer will give you your money back.

[Q] Happy to say: coming back to gs3

Hey all. I'm happy to say that I'm coming back to the gs3. Development seems to have exploded since I was last here (which is awesome). I just have a couple of questions I'm hoping someone can help me with. First off I see some 4.2.2 roms (like cm10.1). When I was on the note 2 flashing one of those roms would do some crazy sh*t to my sd card (basically create a new directory called "0" and move stuff there). Undoing it was kind of a mess when going back to an older rom. Does the same thing happen on the gs3?
Secondly, I quickly looked over some of the newest roms available under the original dev thread and most of them, under "what's not working," simply say "you tell me." Now, from previous experience this usually means there are next to no bugs. Is this true? If not, what are the most commonly seen bugs now on the "built from source" roms like cm10.1, slim bean, PAC man, and aokp? Also miui (these are my favs).
Thanks in advance guys!

It depends...there are a lot of ports in the thread so i don't know how they would effect your library. Each ROM has their own up/downfall depending on what you want from your phone, but that's up to you.
As far as your second question, again it is hit and miss. The devs usually post something they run on their own phone and ask for ideas from the community on what they would like added, if possible. Do a nand and flash around until you find a good candidate for your needs.

Thanks for the response. While I am aware that every rom is different and that flashing them is the best way to get my questions answered, the issue of 10.2 roms creating a new directory on the sd card was a well known issue on the note 2 forums. And it only applied to 10.2 roms. Again does anyone know if the same thing happens on the gs3?
Thanks.

Thanks.

as mentioned above there are some roms that create a "0" folder but for me ive only had this happen to me when flashing jelly bam i never got that when i flashed cm10.1 and as far as the bugs thing you mentioned that really depends on your device and what you use it for, me and my girlfriend have had cm10.1 for a while but my phone never has issues but hers has issues sometimes it all really depends on your phone if it plays nice with the rom or if its going to reject it. For the most part there shouldnt be any issues and if there is maybe its the use your putting into the device is something it cant handle that well my phone cant handle multiview that well because it really heats up and other people it works fine so just depends. hope this helps

It's something that TWRP has tried to mitigate within their recovery, but they still recommend not flip-flopping back and forth.
Please see this TWRP FAQ for more information.
Can I ask why you switched back to the S3 from the note 2?

Welcome back! The S3 is a wonderful phone, good enough for the full 2 year contract IMHO.

Note 2 is GREAT but the size did get to me after a while. Didn't bother me at first but over time I noticed it more and more.

[BOUNTY] MHL HDMI over USB out for D2ATT

This has apparently intermittently worked over the life of this device. It is currently not working with any of the latest 4.2X roms. SO, I am going to offer a USD$50.00 Bounty to anyone who adds this code to the repository of AOKP or CM10.1.
I have never offered a bounty before for anything, so if someone wants to fill in the blanks for me, feel free to do so. Nuts and bolts, is: I will put 50 bucks into this fix. If anyone else wants to add to the fund, lets put it together somehow. Escrow or something? Or just gents honor? I have a proper MHL 11 pin cord with USB Power for this device. I am technically able, just not a programmer...
Bump. Any takers or suggestions?
No takers so far. Too bad. I really wish I don't have to go back to a stock rom. PLEASE, if anyone out there can do this, more than myself would be happy, I'm sure...
so if i understand correctly, when running a custom ROM on AOSP-based 4.2.x, MHL doesn't output at all?
wish i saw this sooner to try that out. i just left CM10.1.2 to try out TW 4.1.2.

That appears to be correct. It was working with 4.1.2 as I understand, was broken in 4.2.x, I haven't tried it with 4.3.x yet, as it is still very beta for anything. If you wish for this to be fixed, add a me too to this thread, or even better, pledge a small amount (that needs to be worked out still somehow... If you have any ideas on how that could be done let me know).
Still offering this, for cm 4.3 preferably.
Slim bean thread claims working but did not for me. Please try and report back. Problems often occur with PSU or cable used.

mhl hdmi working d2att 4.2.2
I'm running liquid smooth 2.4 d2att (4.2.2) and I've got HDMI working after recovering from a soft brick. I think installing the "stock kernel" fixed it for me but my kernel Info still shows as lean kernel 3.4 which came with the ROM.
This is what I did first
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2314841
Obviously I wasn't reading nor did I understand what I was doing but I installed this
http://d-h.st/KhR
Which is clearly not meant for my d2att so I got the brick.
Did the SD card did trick on my 32gb SD card (my phones only 16gb and lol in that forum claimed you had to match SD size with internal storage for it to work, but it worked first try for me.)
I had to reflash the updated boot loader with Odin to fix the brick and then I was back to installing random stuff to fix hdmi
This is the "stock kernel" that got my HDMI working... Im still not sure this is a kernel or what happens when you install it over a different kernel but HDMI worked after installing
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1992483
I did a backup post brick and I'm not sure if I should tempt fate by trying out a different ROM with hopes I can get HDMI on them. Its sad but I'm not sure why no one cares to fix hdmi
I'm on cm11 by Jerome and working fine for me only problem is home screen goes portrait
