Hey all. I'm happy to say that I'm coming back to the gs3. Development seems to have exploded since I was last here (which is awesome). I just have a couple of questions I'm hoping someone can help me with. First off I see some 4.2.2 roms (like cm10.1). When I was on the note 2 flashing one of those roms would do some crazy sh*t to my sd card (basically create a new directory called "0" and move stuff there). Undoing it was kind of a mess when going back to an older rom. Does the same thing happen on the gs3?
Secondly, I quickly looked over some of the newest roms available under the original dev thread and most of them, under "what's not working," simply say "you tell me." Now, from previous experience this usually means there are next to no bugs. Is this true? If not, what are the most commonly seen bugs now on the "built from source" roms like cm10.1, slim bean, PAC man, and aokp? Also miui (these are my favs).
Thanks in advance guys!

It depends...there are a lot of ports in the thread so i don't know how they would effect your library. Each ROM has their own up/downfall depending on what you want from your phone, but that's up to you.
As far as your second question, again it is hit and miss. The devs usually post something they run on their own phone and ask for ideas from the community on what they would like added, if possible. Do a nand and flash around until you find a good candidate for your needs.

Thanks for the response. While I am aware that every rom is different and that flashing them is the best way to get my questions answered, the issue of 10.2 roms creating a new directory on the sd card was a well known issue on the note 2 forums. And it only applied to 10.2 roms. Again does anyone know if the same thing happens on the gs3?
Thanks.

as mentioned above there are some roms that create a "0" folder but for me ive only had this happen to me when flashing jelly bam i never got that when i flashed cm10.1 and as far as the bugs thing you mentioned that really depends on your device and what you use it for, me and my girlfriend have had cm10.1 for a while but my phone never has issues but hers has issues sometimes it all really depends on your phone if it plays nice with the rom or if its going to reject it. For the most part there shouldnt be any issues and if there is maybe its the use your putting into the device is something it cant handle that well my phone cant handle multiview that well because it really heats up and other people it works fine so just depends. hope this helps

It's something that TWRP has tried to mitigate within their recovery, but they still recommend not flip-flopping back and forth.
Please see this TWRP FAQ for more information.

I recently been following AOKP of Task, but it doesn't seem to work well for me. The entire thread is turning into a **** storm and I can't keep up with 100 posts an hour to find out what I should do. I would like to just flash back to normal and keep root. What would be the best route to do this. I thought about flashing the stock rom thats stickied, but I dont want to brick my phone, so I thought I would ask first. Would it be safe to flash one of the debloated stock roms? thanks for any help

I am on the same boat as the OP--well, kinda... since I haven't flashed a custom ROM yet, but I am about to; however, I'd like to have the option to restore to right before pre-flash. What is THE BEST method of backup so that EVERYTHING is back to pre-flash state? I am talking about all my accounts, apps, data, and even the location of all my icons on the screen... I am currently rooted and have Titanium Backup, but I don't know if it can do a "full" backup like I just described or not. I back up my apps and data often and I have restored them (even transferring from one device to another), but like I said, not a "full" backup/restore. I am on Verizon and have the CWM recovery by the way which does the backup but the folder date shows as 1970 or something... just an FYI in case that makes a difference for better or worse..
Thank you in advance!

What do you mean by "this" when you say this does not back up my IMEI?! Are you talking about the CWM backup? Do tell please... what does that mean really? So I may end up bricking my phone by simply restoring it back using the back up I made with CWM?!

Although he adds a lot of cool features, it is not stable enough yet for me to be happy using it on a consistent basis. The fact that he responds to everyone by basically telling them to go f*ck themselves doesn't make me want to waste time encouraging him to waste his. I'm going to try to flash back to a stock rom.

you can't blame a dev/rom for you shortcomings when it comes to YOU ultimately deciding to flash THEIR software. IT WAS YOUR CHOICE, he didn't hold a gun to your head and say FLASH THE F*CKING ROM. You did it! Take responsibility for your own actions!

I'm not going to instigate but you may want to start backing up efs in the future so you can restore your imei if something happens. Its pretty rudimentary stuff, that Dev who wrote illusion rom for the i9100 used to back it up for you while flashing.
Download HC-kTool (its free) to backup your EFS before flashing. If certain people had taken the precautions that they should have before flashing ANY rom then there would not have been a problem.
Task's & Ktoonsez AOKP is the smoothest/best rom for the SGS2 & SGS3, as well as a stable dailey driver.

This is just one example (if you read my OP) about the **** storm that apparently threads easily turn to. I in no way blamed Task for a ****ty rom or anything of that sort. I stated it wasn't working well for me. Something, if you've tried to follow his thread at all, he states quite frequently; not everyone will receive the same results from his roms. In which case, if its not happening to him, he doesn't care. Which he is completely in titled to do, seeing as he's the one working his a** off on it. All I asked was the best route in which I could safely flash back to rooted stock before I just jumped into anything and brick my phone. I tried searching and couldn't find anything. Thank you for your useful contribution to my thread, I now understand that developing a rom for Task is just a fraction of the work it takes to deal with all the useless posts contributed.
If anyone else has any other suggestions, I would appreciate it. Thank you

We are off topic here. Lets get it clear here. You all like his work and how he he deals with people here on xda is not my problem alright. I use to be there and had his rom in my sig and fallowed his thread since day one. You all know that.

Not trying to **** storm your thread...just want to give fair warning that we do not know where the IMEI is stored at this point and if these two folks have a PROVEN back up procedure, I'm all ears as are several others.
I plan to purchase a Wind Mobile galaxy s3 tomorrow and I was wondering about the compatibility it will have with ROMs.
I have heard many different things but from what I gather it is that Wind phones are compatible with T-Mobile Roms except for the ones that include things to do with radio. I don't fully understand what this means but I hope I can get a further understanding from the community's response to this thread.
I am not sure if the Nightly even comes with a radio. If it doesn't I heard people saying it would work as long as the rom does not come with the radio. I have no idea what all this means. I hope someone can clarify
The plan I have is to buy the Wind S3 and flash CM10 Nightly straight away with the Lean Kernel. Will it work? If not, is there a way for me to fix it?
Thank you :fingers-crossed:

Patience! Its only been a few hours. Ive seen threads go for a day or two before getting answered. Just a matter of when the right person comes across it.
To answer, yes you can flash our roms, but no you cannot use our radios. I'd recommend backing up your current one in case of accidents.
Cm10 should be fine but unless its been addressed expect somewhat slow data speeds and a few other bugs.
Stock on this phone is fantastic believe it or not! So give that a fair run too.
As far as kernel, just make sure the one you use is compatible with CM.
CM roms dont include radios. Most roms dont if they are flashable in cwm or twrp. Be careful if you're using an odin flashable as many do include the radio.

Could you go in to more details about this subject? I do not understand why the data would slow down.
Thanks
Im not sure what the cause is but ive heard a lot of people complain about slow data with cm10, mostly in the modem threads. Udated modems helped for some but not much I dont think. Only other thing ive heard is that its a known issue but the cm team had no plans to address it until they have a stable release.

For me, everything works, but keep in mind I DO NOT USE THE STOCK APPS...worthless email/gmail/message. I use Handcent, and K9 email. They work perfect. I uninstall all stock apps on every rom I load, the only bug I see is screen flicker ( which has a fix), the only thing I do not like is when charging and screen is off, no led, so I never know when it is complete on the charge other than using a prog that sounds when charge is complete....I like the nightly's. I flash update every night. Also using AnTuTu speed test, I get high 9000's on the benchmark, my friggin phone IS FAST!!!!

I dont understand?
Do you mean the stock update in a zip format to flash on the phone? check the Samsung site?
Or do you mean roms supporting the new jb release.. if so check the development threads, plenty of the devs are working on updates for it, most likely not out yet
I was looking for the same thing.
In my case, stock rooted JB CWM flashable. I would like to move to JB without chancing the counter. I figured since I have CWM already I would like to flash JB without touching CWM. I haven't seen an ROMS based on the official JB release, or are there?
Bacon rom is stock debloated. Rogers based though. Just need to add att apn
I'm looking for the same thing. Been searching for hours and can't find just a stock rooted AT&T 4.1.1 cwm flashable zip. Does anyone know where one is? Can't believe it is this hard to find.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
I have been looking for one as well for days.
I just want a AT&T LK3 which has been rooted, Dodexed, zip aligned with SupeSU in there.
I want to modify it myself, so I want to start from the beginning.
Unfortunately people in here aren't on the ball like over in the Tmobile or Sprint forums. Over there the day their's got offically released, there was an Odin install and a CWM install also immediately. But here no one has released one yet.
Bummer is I don't know how to do it myself or I would. There are many experienced people on here whom I am sure could do it in like 10 minutes. I really wish someone would.
I can't stand people who complain about the devs here. The sense of entitlement makes me sick.

Ok I'm glad I make you sick...so lets move on.
My point was that the devs/whomever on here are well experienced on doing this sort of thing and can do something this simple in practically no time. As I said, the other forums had all that on day one.
I am not asking for a fully modded rom, I just want the basics so I can mod it myself.
I don't think I am acting entitled, I can't change my oil in my car or fix my dishwasher, so I call people who actually know how to do it. Same thing here.
I appreciate what everyone does here, but you KNOW that they have a CWM flash just sitting on their hard drives that they fixed up BEFORE they started doing any mods, so I am just asking anyone who already did what I was asking for to release that cause you know the devs already did it anyway. I would say PRETTY PLEASE if it would help.
I am not trying to be a pain or come off that way.
I can modify a rom myself, but I need a starting point to work with is all.
Here's some Pepto for your stomach.

Your mechanic and dishwasher repairman work for free? No? The devs here do. Not the same thing at all.
No one owes you anything. You want it that bad, learn how to do it yourself. I'm sure people will appreciate it.

He did JB Rooted odin thing and didn't overwrite recovery or cache.
Worked for him.
I have been testing out some roms and like most of them but there is some feature that each is missing that just bugs me and I can't use the rom or the rom will be incredible bogged down and slow even without many apps installed. I don't play games, just have some websites to peruse and social network apps.
I'm on Jedi 6 . I tried Infamous, CM10 and AOPK and some others that wouldn't even boot or the lock screen was missing.
What I'm looking for is stable, doesn't have to be the latest greatest, smooth and the notifications and ringer must be linked. I can't stand having them separate and Yes i use tasker but it's a bandaid not a fix.
I know I need to test everything to find what I like but I can't, it's exhausting and I'm already tired from the few months I've had this and the voice issues I have. I really want to leave Android altogether but money wise it's not in the cards for me.
So I am asking for help, help a fellow not be insane from his phone.
Seriously ....if you don't learn up, do some reading and trouble shoot issues....you'll never be happy with any rom. A little bit of work is sometimes required.....then any rom should work great.
What we do with these phones is amazing....but we are basically "hacking" them....and there will always be glitches to smooth out. If that's not your cup of tea....Odin the stock rom, unroot and call er a day.
Good luck!

I was stock. Had issues with that as well. I'll take this as sell your phone and get an iPhone you newbie. That's fine. Waiting on the September conference. Was just looking for some input to help me out.

Woah, woah, woah bro did you just say iPhone. The sacred word Lol.
But bro although some of us at XDA might sound harsh at times please look at the material and the points that we are trying to bring across to you. And I think kj brought the point across perfectly. ROMs will have bugs and sometimes people aren't there to help so you will have to dig around and find things out yourself.
And if you have trouble with certain ROMs all I can say is talk to the thread maintainers of the ROMs you are running and ask them for performance enhancing suggestions.
Also make sure you are on the latest radio, and that you are doing a full wipe prior to installation.
And to answer your last question, go to settings-sounds-volumes and uncheck the link ringtones and notifications box. And you are good to go.
If my suggestions aren't working. Send me a pm and I will do everything I can to help you out.
Hit that thanks if I helped

My friend ....you seem to have missed the point of my post. Yes....you will almost always have issues. But unless you actually have a hardware issue.....they can almost always be fixed. But if you flash, have an issue....give up and flash something else....then you'll probably be happier with an iPhone. Most definitely.
Androids and rooting and using custom roms takes some work. If stock caused you issues too....then either something strange is going on or you may very well have a hardware problem.
I'm not attacking you....I'm trying to help and being realistic.

I am trying to cut out all the hit and miss of picking blindly here., so please bear with me.
I am looking for a solid KitKat ROM that's not all buggy. Something fairly vanilla would be fine as I customize my setup (Xposed and such). I have tried to read through the various ROM threads but only end up with a headache with all the various issues posted by folks; I do understand that it may just be that one person having an issue but then again... it may not.
So, what ROMs have you all used that were solid and did not have to babysit 24/7 to make it work?
I've been using Sphinx rom for the longest time. It's a stock based rom. It gives me the best battery life of any rom I have every flashed on my g pro.

Flash back to stock jelly bean 4.1.2 the 10k version, flash custom jellybean kernal then install xposed or whatever i get a solid 2 days easy with atleast 4 hours screen time per charge.
Give PACE a shot, that stuff was solid for DAYSSS for me.
Everything else is always hit or miss for me.
PAC-ROM because three is better than one
Waka waka waka...
Btw, I want to win the lottery too, but it's about the same odd as getting a bug free ROM.
