Important questions regarding ROMs - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

I plan to purchase a Wind Mobile galaxy s3 tomorrow and I was wondering about the compatibility it will have with ROMs.
I have heard many different things but from what I gather it is that Wind phones are compatible with T-Mobile Roms except for the ones that include things to do with radio. I don't fully understand what this means but I hope I can get a further understanding from the community's response to this thread.
I am not sure if the Nightly even comes with a radio. If it doesn't I heard people saying it would work as long as the rom does not come with the radio. I have no idea what all this means. I hope someone can clarify
The plan I have is to buy the Wind S3 and flash CM10 Nightly straight away with the Lean Kernel. Will it work? If not, is there a way for me to fix it?
Thank you :fingers-crossed:

hey
BUMP!
Looks like people need some encouraging to answer my question

Yes the CM10 nightly will work for you ROMs and radios are mostly kept separate so you don't have to worry about that.

Patience! Its only been a few hours. Ive seen threads go for a day or two before getting answered. Just a matter of when the right person comes across it.
To answer, yes you can flash our roms, but no you cannot use our radios. I'd recommend backing up your current one in case of accidents.
Cm10 should be fine but unless its been addressed expect somewhat slow data speeds and a few other bugs.
Stock on this phone is fantastic believe it or not! So give that a fair run too.
As far as kernel, just make sure the one you use is compatible with CM.
CM roms dont include radios. Most roms dont if they are flashable in cwm or twrp. Be careful if you're using an odin flashable as many do include the radio.

"Cm10 should be fine but unless its been addressed expect somewhat slow data speeds"
Could you go in to more details about this subject? I do not understand why the data would slow down.
Thanks

Im not sure what the cause is but ive heard a lot of people complain about slow data with cm10, mostly in the modem threads. Udated modems helped for some but not much I dont think. Only other thing ive heard is that its a known issue but the cm team had no plans to address it until they have a stable release.
I haven't kept up with development on cm so you will be able to find much more and up to date info in their thread.

For me, everything works, but keep in mind I DO NOT USE THE STOCK APPS...worthless email/gmail/message. I use Handcent, and K9 email. They work perfect. I uninstall all stock apps on every rom I load, the only bug I see is screen flicker ( which has a fix), the only thing I do not like is when charging and screen is off, no led, so I never know when it is complete on the charge other than using a prog that sounds when charge is complete....I like the nightly's. I flash update every night. Also using AnTuTu speed test, I get high 9000's on the benchmark, my friggin phone IS FAST!!!!

Any stable ROMs to upgrade to?

Hey everyone,
I've been doing lots of ROM homework since the ICS update popped up on my stock but rooted 2.3.6 on tmo. Anyway I decided to freeze that device updater and pick a rom since it sounds like so many people were having issues with stock ICS. However, all the other ICS roms that have come out seem to be lacking functionality with bugs and other problems. Do these really hinder? For instance, I've been eyeing Darkside evo 3 since it seems the best but it sounds like everyone still has app hangs. AOKP has random reboots and call echo, no video cam various other roms have a mixture of those problems. If everyone is reporting problems, I ask myself "What can those ICS roms do that my GB can't that makes it worth it?" Or on the other hand, is the vast majority happy and don't bother to post their happiness and I only hear of the problems which are minority?
I ask because I get really frustrated if things don't work, especially when they did before. I get about 2 days of battery life now anyway and if I can't extend, I don't see much point. If darkside is legit, or another ics rom, should I go ahead and flash v7 or wait till v8? Also, I'm leaving the country on the 7th for a few months so I'd like something stable before then, especially when my phone is practically going to be my mobile computer.
It's really up to u what u would like... Me personally want to try them all that's way I can make my own decision... For example I was running eaglesblood and went to darkside eco. Then came the Ics update which took my root. Rerooted and flashed juggernaut which by the way is a beast. But since I not one to sit back and just settle, I jumped on infamous... There's a lot to learn from each ROM but if u want the tools are there. Don't settle. Always something is getting fixed or updated but whatever u do thank the devs... Without them we wouldn't have any of this happening.
As I said juggernaut is a beast in it's own right, I never had any issues with it. But once I flashed infamous I was super impressed of how fast all worked. Nothing has yet to f/c or give me any issues. The key to doing this is just follow instructions to a T. That's my best advice. Im new to this too but every dev def does their best to answer question as fast as they can.
Darkside 3v7 with venom kernel has been as stable as can be for me.

If you don't wish to tolerate any issues then i would stick with stock. The name of the site is xda-DEVELOPERS.
infamous
think i'm in the same boat as the op. want to try a custom rom instead of official ics. i tried to flash infamous v2.5 from gb 2.3.6 but i got the dreaded boot loop. flashed it multiple times with no different result so i'm restoring my nandroid backup right now.
i read the whole infamous thread and everyone seems to say it's super stable so i'm not sure what i might have done wrong.

you have to do exactly as op directs... im looking to switch here today with the new chimera rom. only issue i had was now with the infamous 2.4.5.1 radio signal is lost. imma research on that later. love infamous but im so always ready to try new things i wana see what the fuzz about chimera is. just recheck your steps and enjoy. took me on the first try to get infamous. but again best of luck on whichever rom you decide to use. everything will have hang ups here and there. its developing, it happens. nothing is perfect but if you know any ways to make it so then implement your own time and start creating your own.
its best i can recommend. then again everyone is entitled to their own opinion.:good:
If you want stable with good support the only one to go with is Cyanogenmod 9.
If you want the second best ROM and the one I use its Root Box Rom.

intended in full pun, i did say it was my opinion due to its what i have used, im currently on or wanna try. i didnt put a gun to his head stating he has to get any rom in particular. those are the ones i had flashed and tried out. how can i opiniate on any rom that i havent flashed myself..... does it make any sense? in regards of going for first? what does that even mean? as stated above, i only gave my opinion on working roms that i used. intended in full is the fact that the individual that asked the question asked for the responders personal opinions. so with that said i'll extend my freedom of speech to say, this site is for developers that help us out to get the maximum of our devices, if your a developer then create your own and publish it. dont bash nobodies work. their time invested is FREE. only thing they have its the donations we make. with that said i bid you well and happy flashings

So true. Sorta want to put this in my signature. I was thinking the same thing. Whether ROMs are good or bad is mostly opinion, unless they don't boot or something. I tried most of the ROMs mentioned above and honestly, even though I'm not using any of them now, they were all okay. Just didn't fit my preferences.

yeah, i followed the exact instructions in the infamous thread. finally got it to work when i used the darkside superwipe prior to flashing the rom. had just been doing the "wipe data/factory reset" option in cwm recovery prior to that.
so far it's great. really smooth. not sure i'll ever take time to learn the programming skills necessary to do any software development so i'm glad there are lots of people here doing it for me. :good:
i just flashed chimera vs hercules and im speachless....it has sooooo many tweaks enabled by user that it just blows your mind.. *just stating my opinion* ill be back later and will let you know how is the vanilla ROM...so far im still loving this chimera with all hits user options but i have to try as many as i can so i can give a true opinion. might ned to do a lil radio research but other than that im deff making chimera my ride or die!!! happy flashings!!

between the 3 ROMs i addressed the only issue i have had its i lost my 4g on chimeravshercules. but imma do some research and find radios to flash unto it and see if that helps my issue. other issue i seen is the desktop f/c but since yesterday it has only happened twice. its lightning fast for the most part and i LOVE the fact that i can customize as i want.as for juggernaut v5.0, itsa beast no issues i seen and for infamous the only prob i had was it installed team win recovery v*** which i dont care much for. reverted back to my backup and reflashed and worked great again. so until i get the vanilla ROM thats all i can input.:victory:
Im using Mr. X stock tmobile ics version, very stable and i havent had a problem with it so its been my dd since it came out. You should try it out...All you need to do is read the OP carefully and do what it says.

If your still in gb go with beastMOD 5.0. Hands down the best rom on gingerbread, followed by juggernaut 5.0. If you want a stable ics rom go with DARKSIDE v7. Amazing rom.

AOKP is working out some final kinks, but once it is done I think it will be the best.
Same boat here. ICS is just trash for me. My calls suck on low signal and wifi calling has a 3-4 second delay and thats with stock. I did all clean installs to ICS and wiped and wiped and wiped and it didn't change a thing. I tried Darkside before the official ICS drop and wifi calling was worse but regular calls were better. I was hoping AOKP would be ready by now. I'm going to have to go back to GB. I don't really want to but I can't really use my phone as a damn phone most of the time. I guess the trade off is having it look cool and making calls with GrooveIP at home.
May try Darkside and Beastmod before restoring GB stock rooted. I really really want to keep Apex.
Update-
Darkside is nice. Camera is better, wifi calling echo is gone too. Getting the weird dialing out after calls drop though.

I dont understand?
Do you mean the stock update in a zip format to flash on the phone? check the Samsung site?
Or do you mean roms supporting the new jb release.. if so check the development threads, plenty of the devs are working on updates for it, most likely not out yet
I was looking for the same thing.
In my case, stock rooted JB CWM flashable. I would like to move to JB without chancing the counter. I figured since I have CWM already I would like to flash JB without touching CWM. I haven't seen an ROMS based on the official JB release, or are there?
Bacon rom is stock debloated. Rogers based though. Just need to add att apn
I'm looking for the same thing. Been searching for hours and can't find just a stock rooted AT&T 4.1.1 cwm flashable zip. Does anyone know where one is? Can't believe it is this hard to find.

I have been looking for one as well for days.
I just want a AT&T LK3 which has been rooted, Dodexed, zip aligned with SupeSU in there.
I want to modify it myself, so I want to start from the beginning.
Unfortunately people in here aren't on the ball like over in the Tmobile or Sprint forums. Over there the day their's got offically released, there was an Odin install and a CWM install also immediately. But here no one has released one yet.
Bummer is I don't know how to do it myself or I would. There are many experienced people on here whom I am sure could do it in like 10 minutes. I really wish someone would.
I can't stand people who complain about the devs here. The sense of entitlement makes me sick.

Ok I'm glad I make you sick...so lets move on.
My point was that the devs/whomever on here are well experienced on doing this sort of thing and can do something this simple in practically no time. As I said, the other forums had all that on day one.
I am not asking for a fully modded rom, I just want the basics so I can mod it myself.
I don't think I am acting entitled, I can't change my oil in my car or fix my dishwasher, so I call people who actually know how to do it. Same thing here.
I appreciate what everyone does here, but you KNOW that they have a CWM flash just sitting on their hard drives that they fixed up BEFORE they started doing any mods, so I am just asking anyone who already did what I was asking for to release that cause you know the devs already did it anyway. I would say PRETTY PLEASE if it would help.
I am not trying to be a pain or come off that way.
I can modify a rom myself, but I need a starting point to work with is all.
Here's some Pepto for your stomach.

[Q] T-Mobile Modems

So, I was doing some reading around a few of the majors posts and realized that I should probably update my modem. I'm running an older version of CM10 nightly (11-14, really stable and hesitant to upgrade to CM10.1 due to a few issues it still has). The modem I have is still the Out-of-Box modem that came with the phone. If I update to UVLJA per the modems post, is there anything else I need to do other than flash the modem? What are the benefits of updating the modem?
Thanks
Ref modems post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31409259
Just flash and reboot. I've done a few and find the latest to be best for me with signal in places I usually didn't get a signal. Although it might have a negative effect also. It depends on where you are located, what buildings you are in and so forth.
Great, thanks. Just flashed the new modem and the connection seems smoother already.

Good news
You can safely update to CM10 12/16. That's the last CM10 nightly. I ran that build for weeks and never had a problem.

Some people including myself experienced issues with that nightly, I had reboots with it and calls having delay issues (it would ring but I could not answer it until after the 3rd or so ring)... besides he isn't asking which is the latest nightly he should use.
Giving opinions on closely related topics is no longer allowed here? Thank you for pointing out the issues with reboots. I have not personally experienced them, however.

I just went on a modem flashing rampage.. Don't know if it's best to let the radio sit or not but I found the UVLI3 modem to be best for me according to speed test. I'm in the NY/CT area and used the sonic tools modem flashing kit. I Got 13mps which isn't bad lol

[Q] Happy to say: coming back to gs3

Hey all. I'm happy to say that I'm coming back to the gs3. Development seems to have exploded since I was last here (which is awesome). I just have a couple of questions I'm hoping someone can help me with. First off I see some 4.2.2 roms (like cm10.1). When I was on the note 2 flashing one of those roms would do some crazy sh*t to my sd card (basically create a new directory called "0" and move stuff there). Undoing it was kind of a mess when going back to an older rom. Does the same thing happen on the gs3?
Secondly, I quickly looked over some of the newest roms available under the original dev thread and most of them, under "what's not working," simply say "you tell me." Now, from previous experience this usually means there are next to no bugs. Is this true? If not, what are the most commonly seen bugs now on the "built from source" roms like cm10.1, slim bean, PAC man, and aokp? Also miui (these are my favs).
Thanks in advance guys!

It depends...there are a lot of ports in the thread so i don't know how they would effect your library. Each ROM has their own up/downfall depending on what you want from your phone, but that's up to you.
As far as your second question, again it is hit and miss. The devs usually post something they run on their own phone and ask for ideas from the community on what they would like added, if possible. Do a nand and flash around until you find a good candidate for your needs.

Thanks for the response. While I am aware that every rom is different and that flashing them is the best way to get my questions answered, the issue of 10.2 roms creating a new directory on the sd card was a well known issue on the note 2 forums. And it only applied to 10.2 roms. Again does anyone know if the same thing happens on the gs3?
Thanks.

For the most part there shouldnt be any issues and if there is maybe its the use your putting into the device is something it cant handle that well my phone cant handle multiview that well because it really heats up and other people it works fine so just depends. hope this helps

It's something that TWRP has tried to mitigate within their recovery, but they still recommend not flip-flopping back and forth.

Note 2 is GREAT but the size did get to me after a while. Didn't bother me at first but over time I noticed it more and more.

Wanted: A solid KitKat ROM w/o all the bugs

I am trying to cut out all the hit and miss of picking blindly here., so please bear with me.
I am looking for a solid KitKat ROM that's not all buggy. Something fairly vanilla would be fine as I customize my setup (Xposed and such). I have tried to read through the various ROM threads but only end up with a headache with all the various issues posted by folks; I do understand that it may just be that one person having an issue but then again... it may not.
So, what ROMs have you all used that were solid and did not have to babysit 24/7 to make it work?
I've been using Sphinx rom for the longest time. It's a stock based rom. It gives me the best battery life of any rom I have every flashed on my g pro.

Flash back to stock jelly bean 4.1.2 the 10k version, flash custom jellybean kernal then install xposed or whatever i get a solid 2 days easy with atleast 4 hours screen time per charge.
Give PACE a shot, that stuff was solid for DAYSSS for me.
Everything else is always hit or miss for me.
PAC-ROM because three is better than one
Waka waka waka...
Btw, I want to win the lottery too, but it's about the same odd as getting a bug free ROM.
