Hello, I noticed today that the retail price of T-Mobile's Galaxy S4 has dropped from $629.99 to $579.99. Is this going to be the new price and for how long? Or is this just the Fathers day discount price. Thanks

I don't know the answer, but if this is the new price, I wonder if I'd be able to get the difference refunded since I only bought mine 7 days ago.
Also: Grammar; not grammer. :highfive:

Hopefully it stays at $579.99, T-Mobile didn't have any -$50 comment on the price, so the SRP should be solid.
seems like prices changed

I just got off the phone with T Mobile customer service and asked about this and they told me it is a price drop and not a limited time promotional offer.
But TMoNews is now saying that it's a limited time offer that runs through July 13th. I have a feeling that the promotion was jus tworded poorly and even their customer service people didn't understand how it was originally intended.
Update from TMoNews (See post above for link)
This limited-time promotion is available starting today, June 12, through July 13, 2013, and allows consumers to get the device for less upfront at activation than at the other major national carriers.
Bear in mind that the $579 total cost is with the purchase of an eligible plan. I don't think you can just walk into a T Mobile store and buy one for $579 outright. But I did confirm with customer service that any of the new Value Plans are considered qualifying plans. And that's great for me because my contract expires on June 22nd and I'm switching to the Value Plan and buying the S4 that day!
Also, just worth noting for fun that when I got to that TMoNews.com article there is a giant ad for Sprint at the bottom. Gotta love web ads!

Spoke to account services (retention) about this and it is in fact only going on till July 13th and they cannot give me an adjustment. I would have to return the phone first then I can buy the phone again to get it for that price. It's really stupid if you ask me as it will probably take close to a month or more for me to get a credit and by then the offer will no longer be available. Any one else have any luck getting adjustments?
BTW when you guys call, immediately ask for retention or accounts services as anyone else do not have a clue about anything..specially customer service. Just lie and say you want to cancel or something in your account is wrong.

Did you pay for the phone with a major credit card?
Some cards come with price match guarentees even if the retailers don't. So that if something goes on sale after you bought it the card company or the bank that issues it will refund the difference even if the store won't.
It's certainly worth a call to your credit card company to ask. Worst they can say is no.
haha i got the phone on june 11 the next day the price drops $50 (thats how much tax was)
I called tmobile and they said I needed to return the phone and they would ship me a new one in 2-3 days for $579.00. That won't work as I can not be without a phone for that time. He said to go to store where I bought and they may be able to refund and re-ring at $579 and keep my phone. Will post tomorrow outcome.

$549 here:

Weird NBC sells phones now. Not a bad deal at all.
This doesn't apply to prepaid does it? The reason I ask is that I don't have a valid ID with which to perform a credit check in order to qualify for the "value plans" to buy the phone post-paid.
I hope I can go to T-Mobile and buy the GS4 for this price and then put it on their $30 prepaid. Has anyone found out if this price is only for their postpaid or if I can buy the phone outright and then use it on prepaid?
Thanks

Curious to this outcome. Mine said if I brought it back I would have to pay a $50 restocking fee. The kid on the phone was a real D-bag.

I'm pretty sure you have to get a post paid plan to get the lower price. The offer is pretty clear that is applies with the qualifying plans.
But I'm also sure a T Mobile store will gladly sell you one for full price and set you up with a pre paid plan.
Sent from your phone. You should be careful where you leave that thing.

I had planned to buy the phone online or over the phone. Who knows, maybe I can try and negotiate my way to the $580 for the phone and a $30 prepaid plan.

Phone listed at $580 on their website, see if u can buy and select $30 prepaid plan the same time. If not see if you can buy online phone, order activation sim kit, and activate plan online when u get sim card.

Store could not do it because postpaid account in which phone was bought was closed since I ported to prepaid $30 plan. Called tmobile customer service and spoke w supervisor. She could not honor price difference since they change prices daily and do not price match within 30 days of purchase date. The don't even match their own price. May try online chat later tonight as last attempt. Something does not sound right here? Any suggestions??

just got back from the Tmob store.... it was a bit of a hastle....
first i called the 800 number but they said as i bought the phone in a store i needed to go back there.
the store then said they didnt sell them for the discounted price so sry....
called another store in a nearby town, they said sure we have it for the new price.
WTF
called back to the original store and they said sry ... come down with your reciept.
got off work ... went home got reciept.. drove to store (yesterday) and they said.. oh sry you already did an exchange (bad phone) you need a manager. I say sure wheres a manager.. they said you need to come back before 5.. oh and by the way tomorrow is your last day (30 days ).
sooooo come back today... and they are like we need to exchange the phone... im like seriously... just try without exchanging first please.
so it finally worked but geez they dont make it easy.....
wow you went to hell and back for that discount. Glad you got it. I bought mine online so calling retention is my only option.

I saw it at radio Shack for $99 after I paid $199 at at&t, called them up and told them about it. They informed me that they don't offer price matching.
I informed them I would just return the phone and go buy it from the shack.
They promptly credited my account $100.
So apparently anyone can get it for $99 if they are willing to work with a customer service representative.
Hope this helps people get credited

great. Im about call them and get that $100 back. Will update for details later.
Edit: ok, so i called in and talked to the sale reps. They put me on hold for a few minutes and said since this is a promotion from Radioshack for the $99, they wont honor the deal and what they can do is give me a $25 credit on my account. So i used the comeback line and said I can just go refund the phone and get it cheaper at AT&T. Then he said i will be subject to the restocking fees from the store and disruption of service for a few days. So i accept the $25 credit and will call again to talk to a different reps to see what they can do. Will update again.
Where are you seeing this at 99$? Just looked at Radio Shack s website and its 199

yes but i was able to get $25 credit back to my account which is always nice for just calling and ask for it lol.. The CSR couldn't verify it either on the website and they said it must be a store promotion, meaning you have to go to the actual store to see the deal.
Glad you liked my post enough to steal it, please learn to write your own posts or give credit to the original writer no matter how simple it may be
Second, if you want at&t to credit your account like they did mine you have to be speaking with a cs rep manager to begin with
And for gods sake be firm and truthful when you tell them you are going to just return the phone to at&t and go buy it elsewhere.

I took a slightly different approach...
I called up AT&T, explained that I just purchased the phone last week from a corp store for 199 and wanted to be credited back 100 to match what "various retailers" (not specifying which one) offer. The lady I was speaking with balked at first. I explained that if she refused, that was okay, but then I'd have to keep calling back until I got a customer service rep that would actually take care of this.
She asked me to hold on, came back and gave me the credit. I also got the $36 "upgrade" fee credited for my troubles. (I almost felt bad at this point because I never paid or was charged an upgrade fee - it's automatically waived due to my FAN account.)
Sometimes, blunt honesty works best.
So really it's not that radioshack had it for $99, which they don't, it's just that you committed a class A misdemeanor of defrauding a merchant.
*golf clap*
Next, you could always steal one of the fake display phones and try to return it for a full credit.

Was it a very short, one or 3 day sale or something? or not for at&t? or only for certain areas? because the ones in my area never had the at&t model on sale for $99. they did a $149 sale for a couple of days but that was it.

When I ordered mine they matched the $99 Walmart price. I was told it would be $300 + Tax and I was in no way going to pay that much!
I also received free over night shipping!
Yeah they do price match and free overnight has usually been the standard for most upgrades or online sales. I was just curious to know where, be it radio shack or now walmart, they have the at&t s3 going for $99 at the present moment (not so much the past), which is why it caught my eye.
Is Walmart running that deal right now for at&t? I know they did it for Tmobile in the past.

Guys, where are you getting your Note off contract? Hopefully this thread can help members in the same situation get a galaxy note 2.
I have a pre-paid plan and do not want to be locked into any 2 year plan.
So far, it seem like only T-mobile stores are selling them for $650 + tax and that's if they want to sell it to you. What about Bestbuy? Walmart? etc.

I am currently switching from Sprint so I'm not a customer. My local T-mobile store sold it to me off contract but I had to buy a $10 pre paid card to get it activated at the store. I had already ordered a micro sim activation kit online and was planning on activating it myself.
I think it's on a store by store basis.

Yeah I'm wondering if there's any other places that I can buy the phone off contract and maybe even avoid sales tax (via online purchase). Everyone is paying about 700 for theirs.
I've visit one store yesterday but all they had were Gray only. I believe the white one are rare at the moment. They were saving it for new customers or those that are extending their contract.

Not sure how that's cheaper... from a T-Mobile store it costs $649.99 off-contract, it's $703 off wirefly. Even with California tax (8.75%) that makes the Note II $707 from the T-Mobile store. Not to mention that wirefly charges tax to CA, so... for me the wirefly price would be $764...
But yeah, my store wouldnt sell to me, as they were saving it for new and upgrading customers.
Full Purchase Price at T-Mobile Store
I purchased my GN2 yesterday at my local T-Mobile store in the white color 16GB configuration for $683.00 after taxes. I have a SanDisk Ultra 64GB microSDHX memory card class 10 for $50 from Amazon inside it....The only problem I had was when I wanted to purchase it the sales rep at the T-Mobile store wanted me to use my upgrade and I said because I buy my phones outright and he had this shocked look on his and I was like OK....But I did purchase it with no problem though and it took all of ten minutes for me....
Got mine at the T-Mo store last night. Was just over $700 with tax. Wirefly doesn't charge tax in my state but they want I think $729 off contract for it so it was still cheaper to get it from T-Mobile and note have to wait.
Called and visited several Tmo stores. All stores had stock. Most stores had both white and grey in stock. Most said their manager would not let them sell at retail while it was "new". From the way the conversations went, I think I could have talked most stores into selling me one.
One store agreed to let me purchase a white one but not a grey one.
None of the stores seemed to be running out of stock.
$649+tax.

Yeah, it's up to the managers and the two near me are greedier than most i guess.
I woke up at 10:00 in the morning and called my closest store and they had 3 Titanium Grey in stock for New activations or upgrades so I thought I would be out of luck but I went in anyways and I "upgraded" my pre-paid account to the Note 2. That is funny as hell cause that really should not be considered an upgrade as I already have to pay full price for my phones... I took em to school on that one! LOL

Not only commissions but if they run out and someone wants to come in to start a new plan then they also lose a new subscriber. I wish I could afford it at $700 but thats like paying $30/mo for two years just for the phone.

The funny thing is that some people can afford to pay a monthly bill of $100.00/month or more but if you buy your phone outright you cut that monthly fee in half and that is what pays for your phone plus more... No contract for me! :good:

Right I just mentioned that for now GS4 is unavailable for prepaid users so I had to subscribe for a contract to order it.
I did the same thing.
I have a prepaid account but I signed up for a new line and purchased the phone outright.
i know a bunch of other people on this forum did the same thing.
I am wondering if anyone canceled yet also and how they did it.
Can it be done on the live chat?
Yeah I looked on the T-Mobile site...no Galaxy S4 for prepaid phones. You have to give them your State ID and SSN to subscribe to a "no contract plan" where you pay the full price of the phone+$70/month. Which is complete bullcrap, because prepaid is the exact same thing, minus being forced to give T-Mobile your State ID/SSN for no reason at all. It's not just T-Mobile either, it's the same way with Sprint. Carriers want as much of your information as they can get; it's not enough you pay for service and the phone anymore.
My issue was much more interesting that anyone here experienced I believe.
When I ordered to my SSN and ID they haven't approve me and I was very wondering why cause I have a great credit score.
Then I contacted credit bureau and find out that my credit score fall <<400 that is unbelievable. Further speech and I realized that I've become a victim of identity theft. Now they confirmed this and recalculated my credit score as it should be. But to save time I had to order GS4 with my girfriend's papers.
Thanks GS4 that I've found identity theft so early.
The only one thing I have to do is cancel the contract once I receive it tomorrow.
So as I bought phone outright should I call somewhere to cancel it or I can just utilize sim card that I receive?
I'm also a prepaid customer, ended up buying the phone full price. Just hate the fact that even if you're paying the ful price you still have to sign up for service. I hope the only thing we have to do is give them a call and cancel the new line.

I did the same thing. I've been a prepaid customer for a year or so, and I opened a post-paid plan account so I could get the GS4. I also paid for the phone in full. I received it today and I already put my prepaid plan sim card on it. I need to cancel the post-paid plan but I'm not sure if I should do it now or wait. The sim card that came with the phone is still untouched inside the box.

If you paid full price for the phone it's only $50/mo. The other option is to pay $149 up front for the phone, then it's $70/mo.

It's only $50 if you unlimited talk/text+500MB data pool. If you want prepaid with unlimited data it's $70.

The new plan $50/mo including data. But you need to be out of contract to use it.

Ok I was thinking that it included 2.5 gb data, but that's an extra $10. So it's $60 if you want 2.5 gb or $70 if you want unlimited.

sim locked?
I ordered mine yesterday night am planning to cancel service and use the phone also out of the country. Reading carefully through threads, but cannot find an answer: is the t-mobile S4 sim-locked? If yes and I paid the full price, can I get an unlocking code from t-mobile? Thanks

Same thing with me. I am trying to decide when to cancel the new line. SIM card is untouched in the box.
Waiting to see who cancels first and how the process went.

I also want to use the S4 on the $30 prepaid plan, and therefore intended to go the route of buying the phone with a $50 line and then cancel it.
I tried to buy online, but it told me I needed to contact a sales rep to complete the order. After starting an online chat with a sales rep, it turned out they required me to pay an additional $400 deposit. (I am pretty sure I never had an incidence with my credit rating so I am not sure why) As I intended to move over to pre-paid, I asked about the policy of how to get back the deposit if I cancel the line before the 1 year is up after which you automatically get back the deposit. After that she started to accuse me of committing fraud! and that t-mobile is not in the business of selling phones. I then asked her how asking about cancellation would violate their new un-carrier marketing and she asked me "where I came up with such a thing as un-carrier". She then simply canceled my order and hung up on me.
I don't think I have ever been accused of committing fraud before for wanting to pay a store over $1000 to buy their product!
I then tried to order again to get a more knowledgeable and competent representative. Unfortunately this time my bank decided t-mobile was "committing fraud" because they thought a $1000 was an unreasonably large amount for a internet transaction.
After the bank unblocked my credit card, because I told them I really do want to spend that much on a phone, I tried it again. Unfortunately on the third time the "account verification department " declined my request without an explanation of why they wouldn't take my $1000.
So I spent about 3 hours on the phone with t-mobile on Monday and I still don't have a S4 I don't think I have ever had a company as adamant to not taking my money as t-mobile. Now I'll have to wait till the 15th before I can try and buy it in a store
Does anyone know what might have gone wrong, or how to convince t-mobile to sell me a phone?

That's horrible. The reps are obviously just confused with the whole new setup. Every rep I talk to gives me a different story on how/when my classic plan will convert over to the new value plan.

Reps are stupid. I would try and see if you can get it price matched at best buy and buy it there. They should since it will be off contract and you're paying full price. I just don't think they have it in stock yet.

Looks like you won't be able to do it before 15 except asking your relative/friend to do it for you, as I've done it.
Their credit dept haven't approve me since I had credit alert on my credit history due to identity fraud.
Your situation, did they tell you why you should pay 400 deposit?
Have u ever had their postpaid account before? Cause if you've never cancelled their contracts before and had no issues with credit score then I'd suggest to contact credit score bureau and figure out from there why you've been declined.
Anybody know yet if full price purchases are included, or upgrades only? No consistent answer from BB yet and not a peep from Samsung. More and more this seems like a "shoot from the hip" effort by Samsung with little thought other than a knee jerk response to try and stem the market-share bleeding due to the iPhone 6 and the iPhone Plus Bendy.

Hi there, @rushless - Please post questions in the Q&A section - thanks.
The $200 gift card only applies if you TRADE IN an existing smartphone. I don't believe it excludes phones purchased at full cost, but I'm not 100% certain.
The gift card is a Best Buy thing, so I'm not sure why you're expecting Samsung to chime in. Samsung is offering their own similar promotion, however. If you activate a new Note 4 and trade in an existing smartphone elsewhere, Samsung will cut you a check for $200 - $(trade in value of phone), provided you send them proof.
Samsung is working with best buy on this one, so we get the best buy $200 gift cert. Instead of the $200 rebate check.
That works for me, since we'll get the full purchase amount on our best buy credit cards, and will earn reward zone credits based on that amount. ($20 on two phones, I I'll turn around and just apply the gift cert. In store as a payment on our credit card once we complete the sale.
The deal only works with a two year contract. That is how the process works and was verified by Best Buy and how their sales system is set up. Samsung regional rep also confirmed that is how Best Buy is doing it.
Samsung also stated that is how it should work for everyone else, but by the way Samsung set the process up for the others, not sure how they can control that. Looks like Samsung is going to have a big cluster
fook on their hands.
So I just got back from BB and I went all through the process and everything was going perfectly AND THEN I get to the very end where they are gonna place the pre-order for my black note 4 for me and the computer would not let them do it... they told me "the system has turned off pre-orders for both the black and white note 4" I asked to speak to a manager and he said he does not know if they hit their limit or if it is a technical problem and he took my info and is going to call me back (unlikely). I cannot see how they could have hit their limit as the girl that helped me told me when I got there that they have not had many pre-orders at all and she was excited to take my order!!! I cannot believe this, I am so pissed off right now... I am going to try another more reliable BB tomorrow morning but I am afraid that the result will be the same.... ;-/ I have not heard ANYONE ELSE having THIS issue.... UNREAL...

I just checked online, and it looks like the preorders are blocked online as well now. could be they are sold out already, which is odd, because our local store has very few preorders.
I wonder if you could preorder at our store and have it moved to your local store?

It HAS to be a technical problem!!! The manager I spoke to said each store has their own separate limit so I really doubt that is the issue here... I am going to be so pissed off if I don't get in on this promotion... the girl that helped me said they literally had like NO pre-orders so far... there is NO way this is a limit issue... What is your location??? I tried today at the Deptford, NJ store... I find it weird that it happened to us both on the same day at almost the same exact time... this is leading me to believe it was a system issue and not a sell-out issue... I am hopeful for better results at the Mt. Laurel, NJ store tomorrow...

I'm in Wilmington, DE. The only advantage getting from BestBuy is you get the money right away. We can get the promotion from everywhere because the promotion is run by Samsung, so I'm not sweating. I think BB stopped this globally for Verizon note 4, they removed the preorder option from the website, however, not for AT&T and others.

Verizon note 4 was never on the website for pre-order... i checked every single day for the past 3 weeks, so they did not remove anything, it was never there... and I am still betting on something wrong with the system... I am not waiting for a check from samsung that might not even come for 6-8 weeks, BB HAS TO HONOR THE ADVERTISEMENT CONSIDERING THEY ARE STILL PUTTING THAT FRIGGIN SIGN OUTSIDE EACH MORNING RIGHT NOW. I GUARANTEE YOU I GET THEM TO TAKE MY PRE ORDER ONE WAY OR ANOTHER. WATCH ME.
According to a Samsung chat I had yesterday, the $200 off the note 4 with a old phone DOES work when buying note 4 at full price. Just had a chat yesterday. Best buy did tell me it had to be upgrade but straight Samsung, they said it works full retain at Best Buy.

Full price should work, with caveat
So if you check out the fine-print on the best buy preorder site (can't post the link because I'm a lurker...) it does not say you have to sign a new 2-year agreement. There IS another Best Buy site that indicates "must be eligible for upgrade," but does NOT explicitly state that you have to sign a new agreement. I'll be picking up my pre-ordered full-price (no new contract) Verizon Note 4 tomorrow around noon Eastern, and hope they don't try to insist a new contract is necessary for the $200 trade-in deal (I am eligible for an upgrade, but want to keep my unlimited data). If they do, I'll be calling my state attorney general to complain. I am not a lawyer, but the fine print published online does not indicate a new carrier agreement is necessary, nor does it point to a location where such a statement is made.

Upgrade eligibility means your line is nearing the end of its service agreement and you qualify for subsidized pricing. Both youmention are saying the same thing. The promotion requires a 2 yr agreement and trade in of any working device in the best buy trade in system. I used to work for best buy as a mobile phones sales lead on and off over the years as s part time job.
I traded in my S5 today. Got $245 for it. I paid $250 for it off of Clist 3 weeks ago and got 2 otter box cases, 64GB micro SD card and two chargers so I can sell the cases and the chargers if I want. BestBuy matched Verizon's $699 price and I got $245 off instantly for my trade-in. Walked out the door paying $494. I have mine on the Verizon Allset prepaid plan.
No upgrade or new activation here and I got the $200 off plus they matched Verizon at $699 and the manager told me to keep my trade-in. He tried to pull that BS with upgrade but he changed his mind about 5 minutes later. Out the door at $482

Oh ok. I thought somehow I may have gotten screwed.
ATT has really screwed around with their plans and phone upgrades.
They want to boost the "access" charge on the share plans and after you add up the price for the phone charge and the upcharge it's closing in on $975 to get the 64GB phone.
Anyway to do any better than this?

He can't report stolen because you have proof of purchase from PayPal. Swappa is checking if phone is under contract or not. If it is under contract you not allowed to post for sale. Read this : https://swappa.com/faq
I personally buying and selling on swappa and never had problems.

I wouldn't worry too much on AT&T. They aren't like T-Mobile. If someone stops paying off a phone on AT&T, they don't blacklist the phone. Instead they ding the persons credit and go after them that way. T-Mobile does it different and will blacklist the phone.

BTW.. IF you get phone and go at&t store with PayPal receipt and register phone on your account how someone who you get phone from can blacklisted? You legally purchased phone and now is register on your account. Other person have no access to it anymore as he is not owner.
If you want to pay full price, I would say go for t mobile note 5, cheaper and much better as bootloader unlocked, you have chance of getting root or flash rom for faster update.
If you still want at&t note 5, keep eye on bestbuy deals for samsung phones on at&t next plan, on this plan you have to pay for phone in installments over period you decide. In a similar deal at time of launch of note 5, I got $200 for trading in a smartphone (which I purchased on ebay for $30), $45 for getting the phone on at&t next and wireless charger as promo deal. I went for 30% downpayment ($222) + tax on full price ($59.2) and paid with gift cards I got and remaining 36.2 with my credit card. The rest $518, I am paying in installments over 28 months (Which I can pay anytime and get my device unlocked). Basically I got phone for $554, which was sweet deal for me. You will still have to pay $15 activation fee, which is $45 (I guess) for on contract phone.

I don't think you understand what I am talking about. Lots of people have had this problem. If the contract is not paid off, the person who sold the phone did not own it, get it? AT&T owns it till it is paid off.

That's what started this is their "new" policies about not really providing subsidized phones anymore.

You got phone for $30(old phone from ebay)+$222 (down payment)+$518 (for 28 months) = $770. Unless I got my math wrong...
I got my phone from swappa for $540, phone was never activated. Brand new.

You got it wrong
I paid $30 for phone from ebay + $222 down payment + $59.2 tax + $518 for 28 months - $200 gift card for trade in - $45 giftcard for getting phone on at&t next - Wireless charger ( which I think is worth $30) = $554.2
I used gift card to pay for down payment and tax

At&t next is different than getting phone on contract. Right now my phone is not on 2 year contract, I am paying $15 for line (and $80 for share data plan), if I have got it on contract that would have raised that to $40.
If you are on very old type of plan, those you can not get now then you shouldn't go with at&t next.

I think I am on the same plan as you but I have 3 phones on it at $15 per. I read the fine print and if I upgrade, they raise that to $40. I have 10GB shared data plan.
For my Note 3 I bought a T-mobile and a $10 plan and swapped out SIM card. Rooted, etc, etc
Trying to figure out how to go now as cheap as possible without getting a Blacklisted phone. and screwing up my Plan.

I don't think you understand what I am talking about. Lots of people have had this problem. If the contract is not paid off, the person who sold the phone did not own it, get it? AT&T owns it till it is paid off.

No. If you paid in full even from third party you own it. At&t is charging person who you purchased phone full price or remaining of balance on phone on next bill. I had exactly this situation. I purchase phone and ask at&t for unlocking sim card code. Phone was not paid in full and they did not want me to send it. Then I get my pay pal receipt and go to at&t store, present them that I purchase this phone from third party. They switch phone to my account and told me they will charge account that phone was buy on for remaining balance. I get my unlocking code two days later. They told me that phone is on my account and is paid in full according to my account.

Glad it worked out for you. Others have had different experiences, thus my questions.
Some people don't complete contract, report phone stolen, sell it, , IMEI/ESN is blacklisted.
