[Q] Firmare upgrade encountered an issue - Am i done for?

Yes, i'm a total noob, sorry everyone. I tried to root my T Mobile Galaxy S2 using the Kies/Odin method, and now i'm getting nothing but a screen that says "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again". I would happily follow those directions, but now Kies won't recognize my device?!?!? I also can not get back into download mode. I have no idea what to do. Is there anyone out there that can help?
Can you still turn your phone on and use it?

All you need to do is flash it using Odin. Grab the stock rom from the general forum of the galaxy s2 and flash it using Odin.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
Did/does Odin recognize the phone? If it does then go ahead and flash the stock Odin firmware package and that should take care of the problem. Same thing happenend to me and all you need to do is set everything up just like normal, go into DL mode and give Odin a few seconds to find a com port and hit start...just pretend the warning is not there.
I have the same thing ...
I was doing a stock upgrade through Kies, and my computer decided to be dumb and install a windows update and restart the computer... I now see the same thing, i had the stock rom, but it was rooted, and when I try to go back in Odin, it never recognizes the phone... Kies won't recognize the phone, neither will Odin... Am I just returning this phone or what?
EDIT: Nevermind, I only bought it 2 days ago, so I just exchanged the phone
Yes, you can flash from that screen -- I managed to brick my Vibrant that way a number of times, and as long as you get that screen (or the Android digging screen) it's recoverable. KIES should be able to recover it as should Odin -- if it DOESN'T work turn OFF the computer (all the way off) and restart it then try again.
Samsung's USB drivers have a habit of getting confused and causing flash failures both in KIES and Odin.
Be aware that if you're trying to use KIES and the "latest" firmware is a non-wipe firmware (as the updates from T-Mobile are) it will happily load onto the phone something that will bootloop into the stock recovery and refuse to start! If you get hosed like this you probably need to Odin back to the ORIGINAL firmware so you get a "full" flash, then use KIES (or ODIN) again to perform the update.

Were you able to exchange your device? And if you did, what did the T-Mobile reps ask you? and what did you tell them? I ran into the very same problem. I tried everything but I'm still stuck on that screen. I don't want T-Mobile to think I purposely did something to make the phone that way.
Hope I'm not too late to help: I had same problem and used odin to fix.
Here's what I did:
Download stock kernel in tar form from the Android devel forum. Start odin, click check box in PDA, click PDA button then select the kernel you just downloaded.
Insert usb into your phone (I left my cord connected to my computer). Start phone in download mode (up+down keys). Once it's started ib DL mode, unplug the usb cord, then after just a few moments plug it in again. If necessary, let it set a few moments until Odin recognizes the device (yellow stripe in id:com to the upper left), now click start in odin.
That fixed my problem. After that I read and reread everything I could get my hands on, but I think I tried flashing a i1900 kernel.....big duh to me, but maybe I'm not that dumb after all!! But, soon after I was able to root, and have flashed several custom ROMs since my little bump in the road.

Took mine to a store, they didn't have any white kits in stock so they told me to call and tell them that it doesn't turn on, got a replacement ordered without having to troubleshoot over the phone.
Had that happen the first day I got the device trying to root up. Accdently pulled usb while updating. All i did was Hold VOL UP + DOWN And Plug usb in and download mode came right back up and started the process all over again.
It was a success as.

Worked!

we don't have ICS... so I'm not sure if you're in the correct section. is your phone's variant the t-mobile t989 hercules s2?
don't do anything with kies, go to download/odin mode and flash a fresh download of whatever you messed up on... or I would just flash a complete stock ROM.. the ones ending with ".tar.md5".. that should save your phone.

[Q] My phone keeps showing a yellow triangle after failing upgrade

Yesterday, I was upgrading my phone via Kies. But when it was downloading to my phone, the download stayed at 0% for about an hour so I decided to cancel it. I removed the usb and closed kies. When I opened Kies, it asked me to do emergency recovery. I did that and followed the steps. But it still stayed at 0% until now.
My phone keeps showing up a yellow triangle connecting to a PC and a phone everytime I try to reboot it. And it seems it doesn't respond to the upgrade in Kies anymore.
What should I do? Please help
P.S. My phone's battery was not fully charged before the upgrade. Did that somehow interfere?

Look for a USB JIG (eg. in eBay)! With that you may switch to download mode. Then you should reflash the firmware via Odin.
Or take the phone to the warranty repair centre!
Sent from my SGS using Tapatalk & Swype
Before committing yourself to buy a jig from ebay, and since obviously you want to regain control of your sgy asap, if you are up to it, you can assemble a diy jig if you follow the procedure from here:

I gave up on Kies, biggest pile of **** I have EVER saw in my life. Thanks to the advice of some others I downloaded ODIN for PC and flashed the new firmware rather than using KIES. I will use Google for backing up the phone. One thing you can try is turn on USB Debugging in the Devoloper Options in the Settings menu

Yeah your pretty safe with ODIN as you are flashing official firmware. Custom ROMS can be a different story make sure you back up your contacts with Google or something just in case, turn USB Debugging on, install Samsung USB drivers and make sure your lead doesn't come unplugged from the computer halfway through the flash there are couple of good guides online, I'll link it for you when I get home from work

There may be but I just didn't want to waste any more time on it so I gave up on it! Check this screen shot for your
s note problem. I'm guessing this feature only works with the stock Samsung keyboard as I am using SwiftKey and don't have this option anymore.....unless there is something turned off in sk? Good luck

[Q] Kies 4.1.1 update not working for me

I bought my GS3 yesterday and wanted to update it to 4.1.1. Now i went home. downloaded the kies software. plug my phone in and downloaded the drivers. I then go to kies and it pulls up the update notification. I start the update and after the "downloading firmware update components" the screen dissappears and kies shuts down. Nothing else happens. I'm seriously pissed and confused because i don't understand. Talked with Samsung live chat several times and they give me the same step by step trouble shooting. Has anyone ever encountered this or is there a way I can officially update it, just not through Kies? I do not want cyanogen or root. I would like the official update. thanks
Mine had lots of issues. First off make sure you're running Kies as an administrator. When you run the update just walk away for about 10 minutes because it does go blank on the screen even though it's still going. That said I don't believe kies went away I think that only the update screen went away while it ran. At some point I determined that my USB 3.0 port was a problem and I had to switch to my other one which was USB 2.x. I don't know if it was the type of port that mattered or the fact that they were both on the front and just plugged up to the motherboard. I actually think the USB 3.0 has come loose inside because it doesn't work for the phone now either.

I Need the files to downgrade my Note 7 update to the one with the Green battery Icon

Dose anyone have the firmware to revert my Note 7 (SM-N930V) back to before the update
that stops charging at 60% and gives me back the green icon and 100% charge?
I just tried my very first Odin download and it was sort of a success I suppose,
never done it before. So that was cool.
my baseband version im running now is: N930VVRS2PHE
rather then what the update provided via the update which was: N903VVRS2APK1
UPDATE I totally have my green icon back! If you need the files for a verizon SM-n930v message me

Okay so the files for the Samsung downgrade are going to be attached below
Download Odin and install http://odindownload.com/SamsungOdin/#.WC9HM_krJqw
Download the Zip file depending on your model which can be found in Settings>About Phone>Model Number
http://www.theandroidsoul.com/galaxy-note-7-firmware/
(the version i had that was updated by samsung was listed under the baseband version your are going to keep a eye on this and make sure that it changes)
last but not least Unzip the files you downloaded from Odin & Android Soul
Open Odin and then insert the files one by one into there listed homes so put AP where AP is and BL where BL is and so on and so on.
There is not home for Home it was just kinda sitting there for me but it still worked anyways
Connect your phone via usb cable and put it in download mode
How to Enter Download Mode on Samsung Galaxy Note 7
Method 1
1. Power off your Note 7 – also wait while the shut down operation is completed.
2. Now press and also hold (at the same time) the Power, the Volume Down and the Home buttons.
3. Keep pressing these keys until the download mode is displayed on your smartphone.
4. When done you can connect your device with your computer as Odin will recognize your Galaxy Note 7.
press start on Odin once it says it is connected on Odin and download the files and let it do its thing mine took about 15mins
after its done download via Playstore
Package Disabler Pro and turn off android system updates so it wont automatically update
also go to you settings and turn off the update so it wont do that either
The warning message and battery should be back to normal a green icon and no message when you unlock your screen or charge it
Mines been working great so until the note 8 comes out im fine with this phone right now it nothing has slowed down or anything battery is doing just fine as well and it charges past 60% all the way to 80%
I didnt know what i was doin but now i know so if you have any more questions please feel free to comment below and ill be happy to help as much as I can

My phone updated to the N930A APK1 version, I tried to root my phone, failed, and this AP files recovered and restored my phone back to green 100% battery.
Then just use package disabler to block the update to 60%.
Note: will work only on the "green battery" replacement phone for at&t.
For package disabler, message me (not sure if allowed to post links as replies)
