When I try to upgrade and initialization through kies it shows up please check the serial number and enter it again, but the serial number is right.
And also when i try to upgrade it while phone is connected ,it downloads the firmware and installation starts but the phone didnt goes to download mode while installing after 100% of installation it comes with an error that it doesn't recognize the phone.

can anyone help me in this matter?

I gave up on Kies, biggest pile of **** I have EVER saw in my life. Thanks to the advice of some others I downloaded ODIN for PC and flashed the new firmware rather than using KIES. I will use Google for backing up the phone. One thing you can try is turn on USB Debugging in the Devoloper Options in the Settings menu

Yeah your pretty safe with ODIN as you are flashing official firmware. Custom ROMS can be a different story make sure you back up your contacts with Google or something just in case, turn USB Debugging on, install Samsung USB drivers and make sure your lead doesn't come unplugged from the computer halfway through the flash there are couple of good guides online, I'll link it for you when I get home from work

There may be but I just didn't want to waste any more time on it so I gave up on it! Check this screen shot for your
s note problem. I'm guessing this feature only works with the stock Samsung keyboard as I am using SwiftKey and don't have this option anymore.....unless there is something turned off in sk? Good luck

[Q] Firmare upgrade encountered an issue - Am i done for?

Yes, i'm a total noob, sorry everyone. I tried to root my T Mobile Galaxy S2 using the Kies/Odin method, and now i'm getting nothing but a screen that says "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again". I would happily follow those directions, but now Kies won't recognize my device?!?!? I also can not get back into download mode. I have no idea what to do. Is there anyone out there that can help?
Can you still turn your phone on and use it?

Please select recovery in kies and try again

All you need to do is flash it using Odin. Grab the stock rom from the general forum of the galaxy s2 and flash it using Odin.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
Did/does Odin recognize the phone? If it does then go ahead and flash the stock Odin firmware package and that should take care of the problem. Same thing happenend to me and all you need to do is set everything up just like normal, go into DL mode and give Odin a few seconds to find a com port and hit start...just pretend the warning is not there.
I have the same thing ...
I was doing a stock upgrade through Kies, and my computer decided to be dumb and install a windows update and restart the computer... I now see the same thing, i had the stock rom, but it was rooted, and when I try to go back in Odin, it never recognizes the phone... Kies won't recognize the phone, neither will Odin... Am I just returning this phone or what?
EDIT: Nevermind, I only bought it 2 days ago, so I just exchanged the phone
Yes, you can flash from that screen -- I managed to brick my Vibrant that way a number of times, and as long as you get that screen (or the Android digging screen) it's recoverable. KIES should be able to recover it as should Odin -- if it DOESN'T work turn OFF the computer (all the way off) and restart it then try again.
Samsung's USB drivers have a habit of getting confused and causing flash failures both in KIES and Odin.
Be aware that if you're trying to use KIES and the "latest" firmware is a non-wipe firmware (as the updates from T-Mobile are) it will happily load onto the phone something that will bootloop into the stock recovery and refuse to start! If you get hosed like this you probably need to Odin back to the ORIGINAL firmware so you get a "full" flash, then use KIES (or ODIN) again to perform the update.

Were you able to exchange your device? And if you did, what did the T-Mobile reps ask you? and what did you tell them? I ran into the very same problem. I tried everything but I'm still stuck on that screen. I don't want T-Mobile to think I purposely did something to make the phone that way.
Hope I'm not too late to help: I had same problem and used odin to fix.
Here's what I did:
Download stock kernel in tar form from the Android devel forum. Start odin, click check box in PDA, click PDA button then select the kernel you just downloaded.
Insert usb into your phone (I left my cord connected to my computer). Start phone in download mode (up+down keys). Once it's started ib DL mode, unplug the usb cord, then after just a few moments plug it in again. If necessary, let it set a few moments until Odin recognizes the device (yellow stripe in id:com to the upper left), now click start in odin.
That fixed my problem. After that I read and reread everything I could get my hands on, but I think I tried flashing a i1900 kernel.....big duh to me, but maybe I'm not that dumb after all!! But, soon after I was able to root, and have flashed several custom ROMs since my little bump in the road.

Took mine to a store, they didn't have any white kits in stock so they told me to call and tell them that it doesn't turn on, got a replacement ordered without having to troubleshoot over the phone.
Had that happen the first day I got the device trying to root up. Accdently pulled usb while updating. All i did was Hold VOL UP + DOWN And Plug usb in and download mode came right back up and started the process all over again.
It was a success as.

we don't have ICS... so I'm not sure if you're in the correct section. is your phone's variant the t-mobile t989 hercules s2?
don't do anything with kies, go to download/odin mode and flash a fresh download of whatever you messed up on... or I would just flash a complete stock ROM.. the ones ending with ".tar.md5".. that should save your phone.

No it says that there was a firmware update error and to recconect to the computer with kies. I've had that error many times before and id just go into download mode and flash a stock tar in but this time Odin will not recognize it. Says not recognized

Honestly, that may be a brick. Pulling the cable while running Odin almost always ends up with that result.

This may sound weird, but try this.
Reboot your PC and load up Odin. Shut down your phone and pull the battery. While holding down the download mode buttons, put the battery back in. Then connect your cable once you boot into download mode.

Sorry to hear. If that has happened before, probably something wasn't right before. I've never had a spontaneous disconnect while using Odin and I flash a lot when testing the various releases.
If you can't get back into Odin D/L and have the phone be recognized, you might want to look at jtag repair from mobiletechvideos or having sprint expedite the warranty repair for you.

How about battery pull hold vol up and pwr for recovery mode while re-installing battery? then nan restore a backup . You did backup right?
This happened to me a couple days ago but I could get into recovery which fixed it. Make sure you have Odin open on both your computer and phone and THEN connect your phone to your computer. Also, reinstall Kies, all of your drivers, etc. on your computer. The weird part about what happened to my phone is that the phone would be detected while in recovery but not in Download mode.

download Check FUS - download the firmware - use ODIN to flash. Kies is ****.. and dont post in multiple threads - do some research.
I had a similar problem...the error screen said something like "firmware installation encountered a problem...". I believe even though that looks like a frozen out screen, you can still use Odin to either flash back to GB or flash the new ICS zip. I am by no means an expert, so do your research. My point is that i, too, thought I was bricked, and there is a way to work around it.

Yeah if you your moms phone is messed up then you got 2 options
1 flash the rom with odin or 2 return it with the warranty... I recommend you try option 1 first ... there are multiple threads on here that will explain how its done

Mine had the same problem after I tried to root it and it failed. It says "firmware installation encountered a problem" on the screen.
Solution that worked for me was:
1) Start the Kies program.
2) Under Tools at the top left go to Firmware Upgrade and Initilization and it will open up a pop up box asking you for the serial number and model number of your phone.
3) Take out the battery and look at serial number of your phone and model number (SGH-T989) and type it in the S/N and Model Name slots.
4) Put the battery back in and press both the up and down volume and insert the micro usb attached to your computer. Your phone will turn on and see that "firmware installation encountered a problem" on your phone again.
5) Now press enter on your computer and Kies will download ICS and reinstall it to your phone. You might see a couple pop ups asking you to install a Samsung program and just click yes to it (I'm using Win 7 64bit).
Good Luck.
if the previous posters solution does not work.. then try this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1705565
it will give you stock ICS on you T989
there are also great youtube vides by someone called zedomax that will show you step by step how to use odin.. it's very easy actually.
just make sure that in odin the only option that is checked is Auto reboot
the click on PDA find the file in the above link.. then press start
Here guy set for the bashers makes xda look bad but use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1513359 all I need is Odin and stock .tar the ics one is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1705565. But just so you know use the search button so I don't get all the BS.

I would make sure you have the right drivers installed on the pc. After they're installed which takes some time, put the phone into download mode without Odin running, connect to the computer and let the pc install the drivers. If the pc say "drivers installed successfully" it should recognize the phone and you can continue. Also make sure there are no other drivers interfering and make sure kies isn't running in the background if you have it. Hope this helps.

well when i can get odin to even recognize the devce, it is blue under idcom. shouldn't it be a big yellow box? i think this is a driver issue but ive tried it on two laptops. ive deleted the drivers and reinstalled three times.

Problem with USB Driver

I just got my phone fixed by a repair shop and they had to replace the motherboard. So when I got it back it has 5.0 on it instead of my KitKat ROM I like. I'm trying to get into Odin so I can reflash a stock kitkat rom but no matter what driver I put on my computer when ever I plug my phone in Windows says Unrecognized Device and Odin doesn't pick it up either. Please help!! I am dying without being able to revert back to KitKat and my favorite rom.
The driver I am trying to install is SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones_v1.5.45.0
By the way it's a T-mobile Note 3.

Try downloading and installing the newest version of Kies. It will install all the drivers you need. I'll look into that issue in case that doesn't work. Hopefully they didn't install a board with a bad port. It can be bad and still charge.

I don't have Lolipop, but don't you have to manually set USB to connect on the phone (MTP mode), otherwise it stays in charge mode only? either that or your phone is set to charge mode only and you need to enable either MTP or PTP under USB options, for connection to work.

You're correct about MTP for mounting as internal storage, but MTP and PTP isn't used while in download mode and connected to Odin. It uses ADB at that point and it does that automatically. You just have to make sure USB Debugging is turned on.

So I did exactly what you said to do and I actually have another T-Mobile Galaxy Note 3 to use as an alternate. My phone, no matter what computer I use and whether I use just the straight drivers or the install through Kies3, gives me the same issue - when ever I plug my phone in Windows says Unrecognized Device and Odin doesn't pick it up either. Please help!! I am dying without being able to revert back to KitKat and my favorite rom.
Not sure what to do guys?
The other T-Mobile Note 3 I used as an alternate worked just fine.

Just gonna check some things with you. Have you made sure to activate Developer options and turn on USB Debugging? I know it doesn't connect while attached to a computer right now but does it charge? You said you've tried different computers, but have you tried different USB cables as well?
If the phone is charging but not connecting there is a small trick to see if it's a hardware issue. Get a very this piece of plastic or something else kind of stiff and barely wedge it under the charging port. You put it under the lower side that faces the back cover. You only want something that's going to put a tiny bit of pressure there. Most of the time if a charging port goes out, it's because the contacts are loose. If you do this and it connects as it should, then they put a bad board in the phone. This trick should be the last resort though.
