Tethering - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

How can I use my s3 as a tether without AT&T telling me that my grandfathered plan isn't to be used for a tether

Please do a search next time, because this topic has been covered many times,
and just to let you know, there is no proven way to prevent ATT from knowing if you tether. Some will get caught while others won't.

[Q] Verizon tethering

I'm on Jellybro cm10 nightlies and with Verizon. Does Verizon count the data twice when I use the built it tethering? I have heard different things about it.

roppero speak
from my experience they don't. But you should try not to use the built in one as not so long ago they were tracking people who used it and billing them the $30 for the service.
Try using google's free wifi-tether app found here: http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
Thanks a lot. I'm going to give that app a try.

Unlimited data does not depend on your OS; it depends on your data plan. This thread needs to be closed now.

You could have unlimited data on cupcake! Lol like Jon said it depends on your plan u have setup with T-Mobile ....os does not matter
On 4.0 or 4.10 I get blocked. On the new data plane using wifi tether
Will I get blocked 2.3.4 on unlimited data plane using wifi tether

Gingerbread does not work on this phone. Did you not see the two posts above you? The version of your OS doesn't matter. It matters what plan you have.

Well seeing as how you aren't allowed to tether with this plan, obviously it will be blocked regardless.

Can you post a link? (I see several apps that are/were named this or very similar)
Does it require root? (If so I'll wait for foxfi or save up for SVTP because I can't afford to invalidate my warranty/insurance coverage)
Thanks!

Yea It requires root.

Root doesn't cause u to lose your insurance coverage. Only warranty. At least with Verizon. I just switched to tmobile but on Verizon I have sent many phones into insurance because of cracked screens and other things that were rommed and rooted and had no problems. That's what insurance is for. They don't care what u did to your phone

Why not set your phone back to stock for warranty..
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
I can't claim personal experience with the rooting process, nor with claiming insurance. I do have a lot of past experience with loading custom roms and radios on Windows Mobile, and while I hadn't heard many horror stories of warranty/insurance being denied due to such, most everyone did their best to return to stock when sending in their phones for such claims because running HSPL/custom ROMs was a contractual no-no and something support would often ask about.
Because I cannot afford another phone, much less a SGS3, and my previous phones are completely obsolete*, I dare not tempt myself with anything that has the least chance of bricking my S3. SVTP is looking like a relative bargain for when I eventually require a hotspot. (*Before anyone mentions it, yes, I do know that the HD2 runs ICS just fine. Probably JB by now too. I just haven't been impressed by the Android builds for it.)
my phone is not rooted. do i need to be? i seen people do it without rooting.

It's a hit or miss with FoxFi.... Mostly miss.

David- You could pay for a tethering plan from Tmobile, then you won't need root.
I have been successful with foxfi tethering to my nexus 7 over bluetooth with no root.

How do I use wifi tether?

Just switched from an iPhone 5 and now I get the upsell message when I try to tether. I am currently rooted if you needed to know. So what's the deal? How do i tether. Oh ya and I'm on the unlimited 4g plan T-Mobile just came out with
