Can you post a link? (I see several apps that are/were named this or very similar)
Does it require root? (If so I'll wait for foxfi or save up for SVTP because I can't afford to invalidate my warranty/insurance coverage)
Thanks!

Yea It requires root.

Root doesn't cause u to lose your insurance coverage. Only warranty. At least with Verizon. I just switched to tmobile but on Verizon I have sent many phones into insurance because of cracked screens and other things that were rommed and rooted and had no problems. That's what insurance is for. They don't care what u did to your phone
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Why not set your phone back to stock for warranty..
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
I can't claim personal experience with the rooting process, nor with claiming insurance. I do have a lot of past experience with loading custom roms and radios on Windows Mobile, and while I hadn't heard many horror stories of warranty/insurance being denied due to such, most everyone did their best to return to stock when sending in their phones for such claims because running HSPL/custom ROMs was a contractual no-no and something support would often ask about.
Because I cannot afford another phone, much less a SGS3, and my previous phones are completely obsolete*, I dare not tempt myself with anything that has the least chance of bricking my S3. SVTP is looking like a relative bargain for when I eventually require a hotspot. (*Before anyone mentions it, yes, I do know that the HD2 runs ICS just fine. Probably JB by now too. I just haven't been impressed by the Android builds for it.)
my phone is not rooted. do i need to be? i seen people do it without rooting.

It's a hit or miss with FoxFi.... Mostly miss.

David- You could pay for a tethering plan from Tmobile, then you won't need root.
I have been successful with foxfi tethering to my nexus 7 over bluetooth with no root.

What's actually better in terms of hiding the fact that you are using your phone to interneticize your PC? PDAnet makes it look like it's your phone grabbing all those bytes, while the hack makes it look like you're allowed to be grabbing all those bytes, correct? Is one more effective than the other at preventing letters in the mail? Thanks.
Your not going to have a problem with either one. They both just look like you are using data. Sprint can't tell. Merry Christmas

Try looking for the foxfi addon. I heard that it sometimes helps. Also read the instructions when your setting it up.

a lot of those wifi apps claims they work without root, but it is only for certain phones

Where are the settings? Not in foxfi?

I've read that foxfi is not yet ready for our phones, maybe in the next update.

If your on the unlimited plan you cant share the network. They block it that's part of the contract no tethering or hotspot.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Worked fine on my phone before I rooted.
Any updates on this issue? Does rotting help make Foxfi work on our S3?
If you are rooted why don't you just use the wifi tether app for root from the play store. I just set my device as a galaxy s2 in the device settings in the app and it works. I am on the unlimited plan.

What settings are you referring to? Foxfi doesn't have any settings options that I've seen.
Yeah there really aren't any settings for this app.
When I try it on mine seems to start ok on the phone but computer can not connection to it.
I have even tried on my old sensation and it dont work with viper rom. Or a stock one s.
I've had the same problem with FoxFi. Install SVTP and set the profile to Samsung ICS. Still $15, but only once and its the only hotspot app I've found that can get around Tmobile's blocks on my stock nonrooted T999.
I have been using FoxFi and I love it. The latest Sprint ICS update seams to be blocking FoxFi. I know FoxFi is working on this problem but I was wondering if there is another solution without root until they fix it? I have tried the bluetooth version and the other bluetooth apps with no success. Has anyone had success with any other apps or ways? Or will I just have to wait for FoxFi to find a solution and come out with updated version?
Thanks in advance
Also I do not think pdanet is working but im not 100 percent sure.

when does your billing cycle end? and also how many gigabytes have you used so far during this billing cycle?
On my billing cycle I had like 50g used. LoL. No extra charge. I don't think this update is just on my phone because there are several people having this update. Why you think this is just for me?

I am going to take a stab and suggest Sprint is not happy with that kind of usage and finally plugged a hole.
I have been reading though forums that everyone is getting this update and its even on FoxFi website that its a Google update on ICS on not specifically a Sprint update. FoxFi is coming out with a counter update.
I was just wondering if anyone else has had luck with finding another way to have wifi hot spot without root. Until FoxFi comes out with an update.

When you say 50g do you mean 50gb on sprints network? If so I applaud you good sir. Sprints network in my area makes it hard for me to use 2 gigs.
Yes! 50gb. I just download and leave it lol. Also set up hot spot when I'm mobile.
Does no one know of a killer working app for non rooted users?

Just curious, doesn't your phone heat up a lot when using it as a WiFi hotspot? I haven't used my phone as a hotspot since my Hero, hence my username, but it used to heat up fast.

Why not just root and never need a third party WiFi hotspot app again?
You can totally unroot when needed

What's the best way to root the nexus? Something very simple and leaves the phone pretty much stock? Isn't there a 1 click root program that let's you do anything to your nexus?

Please do a search next time, because this topic has been covered many times,
and just to let you know, there is no proven way to prevent ATT from knowing if you tether. Some will get caught while others won't.
