Prl question - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

I have a sprint note 2 flashed to straight talk. The Prl is 59325. When I reboot the data gets real slow and the radio strength goes to -125. If I call *228, *22890, or *22899 the data speeds up and the radio db goes to between -85 and -75. Why does this happen?

Update. It improves when I call any number. Does not really make sense to me.

[Q] 3G connection not possible after radio update

Hello folks, I need some help.
I updated the radio of my Desire from 5.11.5.27 to 5.17.5.23.
After that I can not establish any 3G connection anymore.
There is no network at all when selecting WCDMA only in the settings.
All other options let the phone connect to 2G, even though the signal strength is not very good (2 or 3 bars, but It might be normal, I never used 2G before in my current area).
I already downgraded the radio to 5.17.05.08, 5.14.05.17 and finally back to 5.11.05.27 but it didn't help.
I also restored a nandroid backup without any improvement.
What the heck happened here?
How can I fix this?
Left the phone 2 hours powered off, then additionally removed the battery for 30 minutes.
Don't know what happened but it's working again.

[Q] Captive portal issues

I've noticed that my S3 has problems connecting to Wi-Fi networks with captive portal. It connects, displays a notification saying that I need to open a browser to login... and than disconnects before I have the time to do so.
This only happens with captive portal Wi-Fi networks.

You can try PDAnet/FoxFi, but last I checked it didn't work. Hopefully, a new version by now that may work. If not, rooting is the way to go and for sure I know Wifi Tether works!!
