Is there an app that can do wifi tether without rooting the 4g epic? Im not worried about the wimax tether because there is no wimax around me, i just want the 3g. Can i just use the settings in the ICS?

You can try PDAnet/FoxFi, but last I checked it didn't work. Hopefully, a new version by now that may work. If not, rooting is the way to go and for sure I know Wifi Tether works!!

Rooted my Epic and installed Syndicate ROM. My speeds using the Sprint Hotspot app were MUCH faster than using the Wifi Tether app. Does someone know something that I don't?
If I can't get 4G speeds using Wifi Tether which is only ad-hoc then I'll need to go back to Sprint's ROM, unless I can install the Sprint Hotspot app. I'm new to Android modding so please be gentle. Lol. Not new to flashing/modding in general as I've done plenty of flashing with my TP2.
tl;dr
Terrible speeds using wifi tether.
Does someone know how I can install the Sprint Hotspot app while using Syndicate ROM.
I was wondering the same thing. I prefer sprint hotspot over wifi tether. Did you get sprint hotspot to work?
yeah the wifi tether is slow, i really want HOTSPOT back as i can use it and dont have to connect to it with the usb cable.
Hi Everyone -
I switched from the Evo 3D to this phone a couple of days ago and I really like it. I'm just about ready to root but I've seen some conflicting information on the wifi tethering and want to know what I'm getting in to before I root. Otherwise, I'll sell the phone.
On the Evo 3D, I was able to use the wifi tethering app and turn my phone into a hotspot, using infastructure mode, and using the 4G signal in my area. It worked perfectly, never had to give it a thought. The Sprint hotspot was "unlocked" but I used the wifi tether app because it was more convienent.
Now I'm seeing that this Epic Touch may or may not do what the Evo did. Specifically, I'm seeing that if I want infastructure, it's only going to work on 3G. I'm also seeing that IF it works with 4G, it's only in ad-hoc mode. My work computer will not allow a connection to ad hoc for whatever reason, so infastructure is my only chance.
So...is there ANY way to make this happen on the Epic Touch or do I need to sell this thing and buy another Evo 3D? I'm hoping someone can help. I don't care if it's an unlocked sprint app or the wifi tether app.
If I need to run a different rom to make this happen, cool, no problem. (I see that this LOS issue may be caused by certain roms, I need to figure out how to keep stock kernal.)
Someone please be my Yoda on this one and help me out. Just want the hotspot and yes, I'm too cheap to pay the $30 extra bucks to Sprint to go the "official"way.
thanks a lot!
Sorry as of now no

Unfortonetly, adhock mode is the only way at the moment...
Why is this phone so diifferent? Unlocking the native hotspot or making wifi tether work with the infastructure mode (in 4G) seems to be common on every other phone. What am I missing guys? Thanks.

From what I read around here, the guy that did the Sprint hotspot hack (Necroscan) doesn't have 4G in his area so his hack was never developed to work with it. I think people have talked about picking up the project but they've been unable to contact him to get permission. Something along those lines anyways.
Maybe turning off 3g would force 4g to work? I'm scared to root because of the los issues people are having. Maybe the new 1 click method will work, and if not... I can unroot. Sounds also like it's a matter of time before someone cracks this. I'm in for $20 if someone solves it.
I should clarify. I just want wifi tether to work with 4g. I don't care about the built in hotspot.

My wifi tether app (on a rooted device) works perfectly with 4G. Sometimes when I am on the go to study in a restaurant or something I use the wifi tether app to go online with 4G. It's fast!
in the meantime its not possible, yeah it sucks but only ad hoc mode is working.
There some new wifi tether beta that been coming out afther beta 6 try those

Hello everyone,
I'm having internet problems, so this is the first time I've ever actually needed to tether. So far I've went to the market and downloaded a nice little tethering app that seems to be working nicely, for 3G anyway.
My question is if there is a tethering app that will allow me to tether with 4G speeds. 3G is on the slow end, and at times it can be an annoyance. I am rooted running the Revival rom.
Thank you in advance.

Why not just use the Hotspot Hack? It should be built in to revival.

Thank you, SO MUCH. I'm now on 4G tethered, and it's so great.

It didn't work for me.
I'm having trouble getting the wifi tethering working on my Rogers Galaxy S3. It says it connected but with no internet access. I read some other posts where it says to try using wifi tether or foxfi from the playstore, with no luck. I also tried changing the APN settings for the tethering, I did not have any luck with either.
Im also running tasks 650 Rom if that changes anything.
Anyone have any luck getting wifi hotspot working with Rogers??
If you're connecting through a PC, bringing up the "troubleshoot problems" usually fixes it for me, worst case for me was I had to reboot the phone & restart my wifi driver on the PC
I'll try that out tomorrow and see what happens

You can't get it to work on LTE unless you change some coding. There's a post in Task's thread about it, I bet a little search will find it.
You can tether H+ just fine without changing anything though.

how do i set it to go into H+ mode so i can tether, and also I tried changing the APN settings as per Task's thread, it did not change anything.
last week I boght the S4 and that day he detected my ad-hoc network
few days after, the phone asked for update and after it the ad-hoc networks were not there anymore.. what happened and how to fix it?
it is really frustrating that 600 Euro phone does not have pass through internet and cannot connect to ad-hoc networks
