I updated from ICS to rooted JB using DoomLord's method 2 days ago. Since then, Gmail is syncing only very intermittently.
I have Gmail set to sync in my Google account settings, and also in the actual Gmail app's own account setting section, I don't have Extended Standby Mode enabled.
On the few occasions when I have received an email in the app, I've only found it when opening the app itself, as I've not had a notification.
In previous versions, I'd get a Gmail notification immediately if I sent an email from, say, my work PC. Not anymore, though.
Is anyone else having this problem? Has the push Gmail functionality broken in the JB update?
Nope... My Gmail sync works normally..
Have you enabled "Auto Sync data" option in Data Usage settings..?

Yes, I do have "Auto-sync data" enabled in the Data Usage settings.
This is really annoying. Even when I click the Refresh button in the Gmail app, it does not sync the new emails After doing this, and then going into the Account settings for Google, it shows a really old time for Lasy Sync on Gmail.
Any other ideas, anyone?

Wipe? I backed up my apps and wiped the data then restored using titanium backup. No bug except laggy 1080p video recording.

Do you mean at all, or just not syncing and getting emails?
Check your sync settings. Sometimes toggling to different settings will make it start syncing again.
If you can't get any emails at all, clear data, if that don't work, delete and reinstall app.
Also, make sure you're not using something like JuiceDefender. The Gmail app integrates into the Android OS and relies on the built-in data synchronization, which JuiceDefender will disable.
All of a sudden my Gmail and other email address accounts (gmail app and mail app) are not automatically receiving my emails. It only works if I manually refresh my inboxes. Anyone run into this or have solution? thanks

Have you checked Menu|Settings|Accounts & Sync? Are they set to automatically sync? I remember on my Eris, when I'd flash a new ROM, there were times when the gmail sync mysteriously was not set to sync my gmail automatically. So now I always check

THanks for the reply... Yes, everything is set to automatically sync. BTW, this is on a stock unrooted incredible 2
Have you tried clearing the cache in each of the apps? I know sometimes this will clear up these kind of problems. Also might try to restart/reboot your phone.
I just got my scmexy new Galaxy S III from Bell. Everything works great except email sync. For whatever reason it simply refuses to even fetch the email and as a result there is no notification upon the arrival of a new message. The only time it will show the email is if I open Gmail and manually refresh.
Is anyone else having this issue?
I also from time to time get "Unfortunately, the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped." I don't know if this is a related issue but I can only assume. I normally get that message when I open the browser, but I can force the error by enabling and disabling sync.
I am on a Rooted Stock Rom with no further modifications. Keep in mind this was happening before root.

I've only had my S3 for a couple days now and have this same problem. Mobile Data and Packet Data are both on... My APN is the same a what it was with my old S2 which worked fine. Not sure?

Its seems to be something with the sync interval, but I am at a loss on how to chnage it.

It is indeed checked. I must note that all my other services sync fine. Calender, picasa web all that good stuff. It is just Gmail. I seem to be receiving the notifications now but they are severely delayed now.
I'm thinking the problem lies with the Sync Frequency. I know on my i9000 I could set the frequency manually (i.e. 1minute, 2 minutes, 5 minutes, Sync Off) but I don't seem to be able to locate that menu now.
Turn off Internet sync to get rid of gapps fc issue. Internet sync, syncs bookmarks to stock browser.

I can't figure it out, Gapps is royally farked. I can't send emails in it either and now it is refusing to connect to any Google Services. I have tried on LTE, HSPA, WiFi and (just for kicks) GSM
Here's what I did because Sync uses battery life.
- removed Gmail app.
- opened the stock email app
- entered my gmail credentials in and select manual setup
- leave everything the same but in the server, enter m.google.com
and voila, you'll have push email instead of syncing at different intervals.
Intesting. I completely forgot about Push Email, which would explain the Sync Interval thing. Gmail's app uses push. Since GAPPS isn't connecting properly, I guess I know what my issue is.
Sigh, I hate resets

How does CM9 Work for you?
Any issues?
Nope! none at all! I'm using it with This Kernel and it's awesome!
my wife is using CM9 on her Note and it's super stable..

How is the Battery Life compared to stock?
I couldn't tell you, I bought the phone new, powered it on once for about 10 seconds and rooted / cm9 lol
you can undervolt the CPU to save battery life, there is also a governor that you can set it to so that it reduces batt consumption.
I'd try it, you have nothing to lose.
I've had this gmail issue from time to time. I usually can fix it but going to settings - applications - all - gmail - clear data and clear cache. Give it a shot

For some reason my Twitter app isn't pushing notifications to my device. I have it set to sync data every 5 minutes and it still isn't pushing any notifications even after 5 minutes. I'm not really sure if the sync setting has anything to do with notifications though. Any ideas?

Have you restored it via Titanium Backup? Sync is broken then. Clear data and add your account again, it'll work!

Yep. It was restored via TB. I just uninstalled the app and reinstalled it. No luck.
EDIT: Got it working. I restarted the device and all is good. If getting mentions, messages, etc doesn't have anything to do with sync interval, what is the sync interval for?

The sync interval should be for all notifications through the app

Hi everyone,
I am having problems getting my Gmail to sync with my phone and it's driving me crazy. I can open the Gmail app and refresh manually and I receive emails, but they don't sync automatically. I've spent days trying to fix this, searched the internet and tried all of the suggestions I could find. So, here's what I've done (each of these I have tried several times at least, except for the factory reset which I only did once):
-Rebooted
-Checked that sync is enabled from pull down menu. Toggled off and on
-Checked that Gmail is set to sync under accounts->settings. Toggled off and on
-Checked that Gmail is set to sync in the gmail app. Toggled off and on
-Enabled background data. Toggled off and on
-Checked that Gmail notifications are enabled
-Under notifications settings checked to be notified for every message, then unchecked
-Using different Wifi networks or data connection
-Cleared Gmail cache and data
-Removed and re-added gmail account
-Overriding filters in Gmail, and disabling overriding filters
-Disabling ad blocking
-Factory reset
Sometimes the messages will sync, other times they won't. When I clear Gmail data it might work for a few messages then stop working for no apparent reason. Sometimes they will end up in "Important" mail but not in the inbox (I set up notifications for "Important" mail and that works SOME of the time). On the web the messages always end up in my inbox. On my Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 they always end up in the inbox and I always get the notification immediately, so no problems with either of those devices.
Any other suggestions I can try? I'm willing to try just about anything. Anyone else have this problem or does it work fine for you? My next move is flash cyanogenmod or update to 4.3 (which I really don't want to do since I know there's no going back), that's how frustrating this is. Oh yeah, I'm using the Telus version of the S3 with stock 4.1.2 and rooted with latest TWRP recovery.
Edit: Forgot to mention that when using K9 mail seems to sync fine, but I strongly prefer the default Gmail app to K9.
Uninstall/reinstall GMAIL
Always works for me when I have issues with gmail.
Heeter
Forgot to mention that I did uninstall Gmail and downloaded it again from the market, but that didn't help. I also tried replacing it with older versions of the gmail app but that didn't help either. Thanks for the suggestion though.
