[DEV][REQ]Dualbooting Galaxy S - aka "porting" LolBoot/Siyah

Ok, you may know this Thread over in the S2 forums http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1205288 or this one http://www.gokhanmoral.com/gm/2012/04/10/siyahkernel-v3-1beta1/
My idea is too look into HellcatDroid´s special Kernel which allows one system to sit behind an other - primary - system and to be booted with a button combo, and try to "transfer" the preperations needed for this to work.
So we (this is not my project - it should be a big community project) need the help of a Kernel developer. - Everyone´s welcome
gokhanmoral implemented his own Version in his Siyah Kernel - so there is another point to look into.
I will attach HellcatDroid´s Kernel...​

I've read a bit in the thread, and I'd say that the second system uses the same partitions as the first, they are splitted for the two systems(i.e. if /data is 512Mbs, 100 are for system2, 412, for system1). Am I right with that?

Yep I think its right - but what do you mean with "512MB in /data - 100 for system2..."
They aren't installed in /data... or what do you mean?

It will be a Great Idea,But I read in Thread That It's not compatible yet With ICS ROMs,So Double GB isn't that Well great, But Good for People who want Sammy Firmware/AOSP Dual GB Buut

I mean that /data is splitted, so that the second ROM can use 100Mbs of it, the rest is reserved for the primary ROM.

But you mean using it for data or do you mean for installing both systems in /data?

Well, both ROMs use /data like it's used in one ROM, but they have to share the storage. The amount of Mbs the single ROMs can use is predefined.

Someone who want a stable ROM for daily use and be able to test other ROMs without deleting the first one .
I admit that without ICS compatibility, not a lot of people would be interested in. So for now, it's a great project which I hope will evelve to a fully ICS / GB compatible dual-boot.

As the kernel has to fit both ROMs, you never will be able to have this. Only two different cm9 or cm7 or Sammy ROMs
edit: if mialwe has enough time, I don't think it would be too hard to do this. As /system for second os one should use /datadata I suppose.
But compared to the s2 we have not much space. Maybe the system partition has to be shrinked to 210 MB, to make datadata equal in size.

@DerTeufel: You just stole the words from my mouth. As you rightly said, it won't be possible to boot 2 ROM with 2 different file systems in the same partition - rfs vs yaffs...So it's either got to be 2 CM7s, 2 Sammys or 2 ICS based roms..

so cm & miui would be possible, right? i think that would be a great combo...

I think my friend with his Moto Defy can boot both CM7 and 9... But I could be wrong.

Not impossible because both are running on MTD, stock ROMs run on BML.

Lordmod ics Rom random reboots...

Hello guys,
I using the lordmod ics rom 7.5 on my desire hd. And I get random reboots and everytime it reboots it says sim card inserted and proceeds to reboot again. Had this on 7.4 and 7.5 test 1.i had Made a full wipes.
First I had Using the default kernel and then the cfs kernel. The problem occurs randomly. Probably once everyday. Anyone else can help me?

Dont know if you flashed a lot on your phone but if youd like you can do a complete wipe of your phone and sd card for a complete fresh install. Just copy all your pics and music and stuff like that from your sd to folder on computer and try this out. Just use the 4EXT touch recovery we already have from ice cold and follow the steps. Remember this forum will erase absolutely everything on phone and sd. If issue perist after this it could be a hardware issue.

Thanks for you answer. Before i flashed the ics Rom, i had runnydroid on my phone and doesn't do a full wipe of my System.
I will tested it later. I Hope then is better.

I think i have found the Problem. It's only when my lockscreen Theme "honeycomb" is. Today at the morning, i had change it to "default" and no restarts until now otherwise i had 4-5 restarts on one Day .

If the same issue persist, one recommendation that I would like to give you will be to re-flash the same rom again but doing a Full Wipe in the phone first.
Then restore the application again and you will be up and running!!

i've been having the same issue, and I am also using honeycomb lock screen. Did this fix your issue or has it persisted since you set it back to defult?

Try the latest 7.5 test 9 version (look through the last 10 pages of the IceColdSandwich thread to find links, the link in the main post is down). It's the smoothest version yet. Lord's 9.7.5 kernel is giving kickass performance, and a lot of random reboot/freezing issues have disappeared in this version.

[KERNEL] CM12 (No Encryption, Permissive SELinux)

Simple boot.img modification that has disabled forced encryption and also has set selinux to permissive for CM12 Flounder. This boot.img needs fastboot flashed. Bla bla bla.. Use it if you want, dont use it if you dont want. Some requests have been made for a CM12 selinux permissive kernel, so here it is. Use at your own risk.

You should add the fast charging because the charge with the kernel Cm12 is really slow more than stock ROM.

Sorry man, i am not a developer nor try to be one. I just know how to make SOME kernel modifications. The fast charging thing I do not know how to do. Truly I made this kernel for myself and Ive seen other people on IRC requesting it, so im just sharing it. Im not a dev at all. But thanks for the reply.

My device connecting to home spot only at 802.11n, but when i installed buggy cyanogenmod, there was ok with that

If you have this problem, this is on asus firmware, i don't play with wifi files and for the kernel, this is the original kernel with mods/addons

yeah, on stock rom with stock kernel there was a such problem too
interesting point is that the cyanogenmod has an option in wifi settings, to chose a wifi region (but stock based roms - doesnt), and 802.11ac worked well, connecting at 292mbps, and i think may be problem in this?
i tried to set some different channels in my router opions, and if i set 128'th channel for example, asus dont even see the spot, at lower channels it says me "authentification problem"

This is a bug with alternative launcher
For keyboard

Wait a full rom, not a patch, for use a patch need reinstall original asus rom, patch, root, extract /system/, reinstall recovery, modify all and install
With full rom, just modify it and install.

I can see the phone screen on the computer, but when I click on it nothing happens.
I have installed 2.20.40.43-V1(apex launcher), works fine no others issues.

If you use Asus PC link, it don't work because i have removed the pclink manager in /system/app/

Have you actually tried that? Because I tried installing SuperSU from the playstore and it threw me an error stating that my phone was missing SU binaries. Not sure what to do (or what I should be flashing) next.
Any help appreciated, otherwise I'll stick with CM where I can enable root from Developer Options.

Yes I have. You can flash this as well if you're not sure how to get root with the app

Ok great thanks, I'll give it another shot.
There should probably be a note in the OP stating that the ROM is not initially rooted with a link to that though, especially considering most of the other ROMs derived from the CM 12.1 build are. I'm sure future newbs (such as myself) stumbling across this ROM wondering where/how to enable root would benefit from that tadbit of left out information

but i have a same situation here, cant hear anything when calling (in and out)
neither me or the other can hear a thing..
wonder if there's a solution for this ?
it's a bit annoying to not have an ability to call with this awesome rom
