Battery's not as good as others - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

As I write this, I am currently 32% with 2 hours of display time. That's horrible compared to other people's battery.
I installed the ktoonez kernel and copied his exact settings but that didn't make a huge difference :/.
I have no idea what it is; I've disabled GPS, i have auto-brightness on, and i have sync turned off. I just don't get what's killing my battery...
If anyone who has the ktoonez kernel installed, may you please share your settings! It would help me a lot!
Or anyone who's reached 4 hour on screen time, please share your settings !
And I use the phone in a moderate fashion, just text, send photos and use the xda app!

Your phone is a phone. Which means that unless you're in airplane mode (which I'll assume you're not since you didn't mention it), it is always sending and receiving information over the air. The quality of your signal will determine how much battery you use. Comparing your results to others that have the same phone is meaningless unless you're both either (a) in airplane mode or (b) at the same location using the same cell towers.
Maybe you have a weak signal wherever you are running these tests, and your battery is working overtime because of that? That's just one guess.

Well if you want to be really scientific about it (though this will be a huge PITA), flash the same exact software image to both phones, then repeat your test using both phones simultaneously. After this, if the phones do not perform identically, then recharge the batteries, swap them, and repeat the test.
This would identify whether the problem is related to the battery or the hardware. If it's not either of those, then yes it probably is software. Good luck!

Time without signal?

I'm getting a semi high time without signal. Is it my area or a bug?
Sent from my ADR6350 using XDA Premium App
Mines low. Might be the area?
Sent from my Dinc2.
There was a bug in older phones, especially running 2.1. I had it with my Eris. I considered it a visual-only bug...meaning it didn't affect my battery life at all. You could tell if you had it because the Time without Signal would sit at exactly 50%.
From my limited use of my new DINC2, I don't believe it has this issue. So unfortunately it may be your coverage area.
To correct the TWS display, there was a fix involving airplane mode. This would drop the TWS number down after using the phone for awhile. As I said, I'm fairly certain it was inaccurate, as in my city I'm hardly ever without even a 3G signal. If yours is showing something other than 50%, then this bug is likely not the cause.
Mine is 1%.

Cell Standby Issue!

Why is my cell standby always so high up? Right now the phone has been on for 3 hours and the cell standby is at 41 percent.
Here as well.
What ROM are you using?
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
I'm not sure but could it possibly be from the device constantly trying to get or maintain signal? Or perhaps it's just the most used thing on your phone? My battery has only dropped 15% in the last ten hours because I was working and barely used my phone, yet the cell standby was 51%.

Yeah that's what it means. But why is it so high. My old HTC Aria only used about 15-20 percent battery for cell standby.

Now i'm even having trouble staying connected to my 5ghz network. I'm literally standing right next to my router and the phone just drops the connection like every hour.
As you use other stuff those percentages go up.
IF you have had your phone on for 3 hours and done nothing with it then cell standby will be high as the stuff below it was used a lot less.
I ve had mine on the battery for 20 hours and cell stand by is 34%
If you were to say play a game for a long time then your game and screen would go up in time.
Cell standby should not be that high no matter if you're using your phone or not. This sounds like the bug the the og sgs1 epic had that always caused the phone to have a high time without signal that drained battery. It was eventually fixed with the gingerbread update. Can one of you click on cell standby so we can see if the time without signal bug is back? I would like to know b4 I upgrade.
Edit: my cell standby never goes above 7% on my SGSII. And once the og epic got the fix the cell standby would remain below the 10%. Cell standby should be at the bottom of list unless you have crappy reception and the phone is constantly searching for service.

Cell Standby is a bug, easily fixed. Use the Flashable zip from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1732722
Some ROMS may not have this fix included, but most does. If you see that you have really high Cell Standby try this out. Worked for me, I was on FreeGS3 and the version I was running didn't have it, now the lastest release has it included.
Now new problem. the phone turns on for 2 seconds and then turns off again. this is random though. Usually happens every 2 hours or so.

This is probably due to a well known bug on the Galaxy S III series, originally reported in the international version. The actual power consumption of Cell Standby is being overstated in the stats by a factor of about 10. This is a reporting issue, not an issue with actual power consumption. See this XDA thread.
It needs a fix from Samsung.

I get phenomenal battery life out of my S3 (stock).
I had an Epic 4G and was afraid to leave my desk because of the battery drain. With moderate usage (30-60 mins talk time, texting, chat, some web, exchange, ect) I can easily get 16-20 hours. Signal quality in your area will impact it more than anything. Also, wifi is vastly easier on the battery.
PS Facebook app SUCKS. Just bookmark the webpage and use that. Works better and doesn't ruin your phone.

Post a screen shot and I'll tell ya what could be happening.
You can improve battery life by switching to custom roms with less bloatware, and updating to more efficient kernels. (This is on a Rom/Kernel level)
Software wise, just figure out what apps are causing wake times and try not to use them. Basically whenever an app/widget refreshes/updates content, it may cause phone to wake (like weather/clock widgets for example).
I have been using cpusleep and it seems to have helped my battery life ... also using a custom rom without the bloatware is key for me.
my current setup is freegs3 release 6 with the latest trinity kernel...even though its overclocked my battery has been amazing and phone has worked flawless.
Im also using system tuner which has given me the ability to manage the cpu with on demand and other customizable settings
The only thing I synch is my k9 mail account
I also have frozen several samsung apps which helped...
Im now getting over 20 hours of basic use between charges...I dont use games/videos so might be a little skewed . I use this phone for business calls/internet/messaging/photos/navi...pretty basic

WiFi Calling - Efficiency

I was looking at logcat and saw that there is a garbage collection happening almost every second! This happens even if the phone is asleep. If you disable WiFi calling it goes away.
This garbage collecting every second can't be good for the battery.
Does anyone else notice this, can you check?
See screen shot for sample.

I've done extensive testing for overnight power consumption (no use at all) and you save about .2-.3% an hour with wifi calling off with poor signal (my house reception is horrid) and with wifi on. This amount is probably small enough to be considered negligible.

The latest version implemented fast charge something to try.
If you just flashed it you will go through your battery considerably faster until you do a full charge.
Besides battery usage is dependant on each phone and individual user.

4G is one of the known biggest battery drainers. This isn't just for my rom. It's for all roms on all devices. Battery life is also users dependent. There are so many variables like location, apps, settings, the way you use your phone, ect... the list can go on and on. With that said. I always get around 22-25 hours and 3-4 hours screen on time on a single charge. That can vary depending upon my usage.

3 reasons: You either have Google Now setup, You sync too much stuff and/or you have location access/GPS turned on.
And as Task mentioned, 4G is a big battery drain. If you feel it's too high, drop to 3G/H while you don't need high internet speed.

Definitely the wifi and the 4g drain battery to quick, very quick.
But what really pisses me more than all is how slow it takes to recharge...

Solved the problem at least for charging.
I bought an used Galaxy s3 and apparently the guy kept the original charger or lost it and the one I was using wasn't good at all.
So I had another charger of the HTC one x and this one works perfectly!
But still, now I need to find out why it drains battery so quick when I'm on wither 4g or wifi.
Does the Kernel do that much difference?
Well if that is a yes then I have a few questions:
Do I have to wipe my memory so I must do another back up?
Will this Kernel be compatible with Galaxy s3 i747?
Any step by step guide that I can do this easily without any warning or danger?
Link please?
Thanks.

All you need to do is read the OP of the kernel thread that you want to flash. That would be your step by step. 4G will always be a battery drainer. There's nothing you can do about it.

I also run task 650 but I don't believe that the slow charge is ROM related. My phone seems to take forever to charge since I upgraded to jb. I'm thinking there was an issue with my battery because my wife's gs3 charges much faster. Only way I was able to work around this was to charge while powered off. This happened on every ROM I have flashed in the last couple of months whether aosp or twiz.
