I'm getting a semi high time without signal. Is it my area or a bug?

Mines low. Might be the area?
Sent from my Dinc2.
There was a bug in older phones, especially running 2.1. I had it with my Eris. I considered it a visual-only bug...meaning it didn't affect my battery life at all. You could tell if you had it because the Time without Signal would sit at exactly 50%.
From my limited use of my new DINC2, I don't believe it has this issue. So unfortunately it may be your coverage area.
To correct the TWS display, there was a fix involving airplane mode. This would drop the TWS number down after using the phone for awhile. As I said, I'm fairly certain it was inaccurate, as in my city I'm hardly ever without even a 3G signal. If yours is showing something other than 50%, then this bug is likely not the cause.
Mine is 1%.
Mine ranges from 6-24%..prob my area...ft riley Kansas....

My time without signal is 0%, even though my bars and 3g indicator would say otherwise. My cell standby is only 7 minutes though. That may be a whole other problem all together.

I believe doing certain things, such as rebooting your device, will reset the counters. It could be 0% since the last counter reset.

Okay. I thought I didn't have stellar service in my area. (Bounces from 0 to 2 bars, depending) Now my tutor, who has a DX, pulls 3-4 bars where I get none! Same exact time, same exact place! WTF gives HTC!

Im stock, unrooted. So whatever they give out stock. Im waiting for OTA gingerbread to root.

3 or 4 bars seems extreme. Could be a hardware defect. My buddy has DX and we both get no service in my basement and terrible service upstairs. So it's not universal.
Edit: could be your phones are on different towers. I know I seen a thread about configuring what tower you connect to.
I have this problem too! My signal sucks most of tthe time. When im in the 18th floor of a building in Boston I get like 1 or 2 bars. Which radio is best to flash? I've never flashed a radio before

Thing is guys you can't go by the bars they can be misleading....although the icredible does have a know problem with bad signal but if you really want to know your signal strength go to main menu, then go down to about phone, then click on network signal that's the real signal..... -85 to -75 is about average

Bars are meaningless. They are not a good indicator of signal strength. Follow the instructions posted by newtoroot to see what your signal strength actually is.
The best radio is the one that gives you the best combination of signal and battery usage. No one can tell you which one will work best on your individual phone in your specific location. The only way to know which one will work best is to test drive each one for a few days and se which suits your needs best.

Just switched from 09.01 radio to 11.19 and I my signal went from -75dBm to -69dBm. Not a huge improvement but still an improvement.
A word of caution: BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL IF YOU TRY TO FLASH A NEW RADIO. THE INCREDIBLE I HOLD IN MY HAND IS BECAUSE I FLASHED A RADIO AND BRICKED MY OLD HTC ERIS

This phone definitely has some kind of signal issue or something. Especially with SMS. I have to resend messages all the time for "general SMS error" is usually what it says. Quite frustrating and ill probably end up with a phone that's been smashed into a million bits someday.

Yeah what above said. I get 2 bars avg in my house and get about 800kbps, 4 bars I get 1mbps, They may be working on the towers out there also
Any chance you might have given them reason to throttle you data connection down?
I also experience dramatic drops in data speeds at peak times and it is location specific where I live. At 2300 in my neighborhood I get great speeds, but at the same time at work (which is full of people still awake and likely using their network) I get really bogged down.
Either a possible factor?

I think the reason why people get horrible speeds at work is because there is probably too much electronic interference.
But then again, when someone says "work" I imagine someone sitting in a cubicle.

besides the "3G hack" is there anyway to prevent from being throttled on a non rooted 2.3.3 dinc2?
I was under the impression that even with the hack you can get throttled
But I also understand you need to be using GBs/month to make that happen. Most people would have a hard time getting there.
I stream Pandora ALL the time, and I usually get between 1 and 2 GBs of useage. I'm also using my phone for most of my internet browsing.

There's a lot of things that will influence your throughput. Signal strength is only one of a few. Signal quality and available bandwidth will also influence it. A strong signal with a bit of noise will cause problems.
Try *228 option 2, then reboot, and see if it helps.

Verizon is cracking the whip on "free" tethering. I read in an article that it can be tracked if your phone is on gingerbread. I'm not sure, maybe one of the devs could weigh in, but I read there was code written into GB to help them track it. If I can find the article, I'll link it.

Are you in an area with bad cell reception? My time without a signal is always very low only a few minutes and thats just from the time it takes me to drive through the mountain pass to and from work.
At work I have very low signal but driving to work I have great signal. So today my phone has been on 1.5 hours before getting to work. Cell standby is 63% and time without signal is 51%.
Btw this is a replacement phone. My first one had gps issues. Ive had it 3 days but seems to have weaker overall signal.
Here are my screenshots. Should I get this phone replaced too. I swear my other phone had great battery life. I have barely touched this phone but it's only on its third battery cycle. Battery is at 82%. Opinions please.

I would be happy if I got that amount of battery life. I can barely get 11-12 with normal usuage.
But that's not "normal" Usage those. That's me constantly conserving by disabling data all the time or airplane mode in general. Those numbers only reach that high on days I ignore my phone

Cell standby is caused by LTE searching, 4G Searching, GPS searching, and WIFI searching when it not connected.
So 70 % or more of my battery was used for searching for signal? That's pretty lame considering I keep everything off or disabled unless I'm using it. .... how does that make sense.

Now i'm even having trouble staying connected to my 5ghz network. I'm literally standing right next to my router and the phone just drops the connection like every hour.
As you use other stuff those percentages go up.
IF you have had your phone on for 3 hours and done nothing with it then cell standby will be high as the stuff below it was used a lot less.
I ve had mine on the battery for 20 hours and cell stand by is 34%
If you were to say play a game for a long time then your game and screen would go up in time.
Cell standby should not be that high no matter if you're using your phone or not. This sounds like the bug the the og sgs1 epic had that always caused the phone to have a high time without signal that drained battery. It was eventually fixed with the gingerbread update. Can one of you click on cell standby so we can see if the time without signal bug is back? I would like to know b4 I upgrade.
Edit: my cell standby never goes above 7% on my SGSII. And once the og epic got the fix the cell standby would remain below the 10%. Cell standby should be at the bottom of list unless you have crappy reception and the phone is constantly searching for service.

Cell Standby is a bug, easily fixed. Use the Flashable zip from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1732722
Some ROMS may not have this fix included, but most does. If you see that you have really high Cell Standby try this out. Worked for me, I was on FreeGS3 and the version I was running didn't have it, now the lastest release has it included.
Now new problem. the phone turns on for 2 seconds and then turns off again. this is random though. Usually happens every 2 hours or so.

This is probably due to a well known bug on the Galaxy S III series, originally reported in the international version. The actual power consumption of Cell Standby is being overstated in the stats by a factor of about 10. This is a reporting issue, not an issue with actual power consumption. See this XDA thread.
It needs a fix from Samsung.
As I write this, I am currently 32% with 2 hours of display time. That's horrible compared to other people's battery.
I installed the ktoonez kernel and copied his exact settings but that didn't make a huge difference :/.
I have no idea what it is; I've disabled GPS, i have auto-brightness on, and i have sync turned off. I just don't get what's killing my battery...
If anyone who has the ktoonez kernel installed, may you please share your settings! It would help me a lot!
Or anyone who's reached 4 hour on screen time, please share your settings !
And I use the phone in a moderate fashion, just text, send photos and use the xda app!

Your phone is a phone. Which means that unless you're in airplane mode (which I'll assume you're not since you didn't mention it), it is always sending and receiving information over the air. The quality of your signal will determine how much battery you use. Comparing your results to others that have the same phone is meaningless unless you're both either (a) in airplane mode or (b) at the same location using the same cell towers.
Maybe you have a weak signal wherever you are running these tests, and your battery is working overtime because of that? That's just one guess.

Well if you want to be really scientific about it (though this will be a huge PITA), flash the same exact software image to both phones, then repeat your test using both phones simultaneously. After this, if the phones do not perform identically, then recharge the batteries, swap them, and repeat the test.
This would identify whether the problem is related to the battery or the hardware. If it's not either of those, then yes it probably is software. Good luck!
