So I haven't had the GS3 since a week before the Note 2 came out, and my wife still has the GS3. She's lately been complaining of really bad battery life. Having to charge 2-3 times a day to make it home! So I've flashed CWM and rooted the stock Rom, but I'm looking for the best Rom/Kernel combo to alleviate her problem. She really wants to keep the stock TW look and feel. Just hoping to get a few GS3 users opinions! Even if it mean stock rom but a certain battery efficient kernel. Thanks in advance!
To be honest I've found the best battery life just from the completely stock TW rom and it's kernel. I say if you have battery issues now, try solving them before you go flashing rom after rom trying to fix the problem. Could be an app causing battery drain that just needs to be reinstalled or maybe completely uninstalled. Maybe you should try Juice Defender since you are tired now.
That being said, I just flashed Cyanogenmod 10.1 RC2 a few days ago with the ktoonsez 5/29 kernel and I got very good battery life. Very close to stock, maybe better (haven't spent enough time with it to decide). Last night I flashed RC3 with ktoonsez kernel and everything seems good so far as well.

I appreciate the response. I've been following her phone usage the last few days, in hopes of finding an app to blame (or her candy crush addiction), but everyday the top battery consumption have been Kernel and Android System. I use GSam Battery Monitor Pro on both our phones. I suppose just rooting the stock rom and bebloating may be an option. I've just always had good luck with battery life in finding a decent stock based TW rom and mild Kernel. CM isn't gonna work for here. She's a creature of habit and is comfortable in TW. I've seen the Ktoonsez kernel but only listed for 4.1.2 TW, does he have a version for 4.1.1? Thanks again for the reply!
Yea don't think there's a kernel version for 4.1.1. Have you thought about an extended battery? Not gonna lie, it is pretty big so it's not for everyone. But I got used to it very fast, and actually strongly prefer the size now because before I always lost grip of my phone and dropped it from how thin it was. If she manages to burn through a 4200 mah battery in a day, give her an award!

Download wake lock detector, let it install, reboot the phone and let her use it for a while, this will tell you what's been running on the phone. The other thing you can do to stretch out your battery is turn stuff off (disable) in settings>> applications
Safe stuff I have disabled so far... Also switch from Gamil app to stock email app since gmail seems to wake the device alot.

Whenever I need a very good performing TW ROM I go back to my nandroid of Blandroid 2.7 (4.1.1) and KT747 Mar 6. I'm not sure why but I get outstanding battery life with this combo. Yesterday I had 15 hours worth of usage with 10% left and over 4 hours of screen time. Kernel settings are 384/1512/ondemand/noop.
As mentioned already, there are some apps that really drain the battery. Especially intensive games.
I have a similiar situation on my wifes rooted HTC Vivid. She does not like it when I change/erase everything. Its been so long now, I dont know if there is a process to root without wiping everything, but if you do root, Debloat obviously, but this greenify app is working for me. Simple and so far decent. I am really liking Faux kernel, with his recommended settings on Intilledemand, lately(Chubz ROM), but the best battery i ever had was on DrewGaren's M7 Rom. Like 2% loss overnight on standby.
I've stuck with the last version of ICS, frozen the stuff I don't use with Titanium Backup, and I get pretty good battery life. ICS battery life is better than JB in my experience and I don't see that much of a difference between the two that makes me want to go to JB.

Hi Guys
Looking for best battery life and bug free rom...
As I am just pissed off by battery life by stock rom, i do not mind going on Aosp rom either on gingerbread 2.3, 2.2 or 4.0
hope some experienced people over here at XDA will help me to find out a good battery life and smooth rom for daily use.
Thanks
From my experience, the best rom (fast, bugfree, no lags) that i have came through is splash mod. Now for the battery, you can download easy battery saved. You can then configure it to stop some things when the phone is locked so that battery consumption is reduced. I personally use it and have my phone up for more than 20 hours
The best thing I've found for battery is to buy a spare battery and a wall charger that holds the spare battery, that way by the time my battery is flat my spare one is fully charged. As for the roms its personal preference in my eyes, splashmod may be fast out of the box but I could have a sense based rom running just as fast within half an hour so my advice is try them all and find one that suits you.

Best rom
IMO,I would say the joker rom, spalsh v1.8,and sunaabh. Ive had about 30-60 percent battery life on averga more than stock rom with the 3 I mentioned
I am curious what makes splash rom faster than cm7 since it is based on nightly 256. I think it might be just because of JIT enabled in CM7 (not sure if it is by default) while it is not enabled in splash rom. JIT might (is) causing some delay when executing applications. What do you think?

No there's nothing special about it, its because he's stripped out all the apps to make it a barebones Rom, thats all.
Not for me though I need apps like the clock and don't want to waste my time downloading such apps from the market, I'd rather have a full version and delete what I don't want myself.

For me best rom is RemPuzzleRom fast, stable and good battery life.
I have had the best battery using CM7. I remove unwanted apps using Barebones tutorial.
~20 hours battery life on CM7.
~17 hours on Rempuzzle
Splash mod 2.0 is the best, becouse there is no bugs and it is very friendly to battery
Sent from my Wildfire using XDA
rempuzzlerom and splashmod .... worked really well for me (about 20 hours of battery backup)
I still use stock 2.2 and trust me battery last for 1 to 1.5 days with constant use of twitter, sms, gtalk, call and browsing.
SplashMOD is very smooth, having no issues with it yet, been in use for 2 months. No FCs, all apps working fine.
CM7 was with me for 4-5 months. Towards the end it got very laggy, like seriously jumpy (probably due to neglect), but battery life on splashmod is no where near as good as CM7.
Maybe i just use it more. I think sleep as android and copilot rinse it, which i didnt have on CM7
Am switching to Rempuzzle soon so see what all the crack is about
Have a dumb question in which I am sure a lot of threads have been created about it but I cant seem to find one thread that at least displays what works on our T-Mobile variant SGS3.
What I want to know is what themes work, add-ons, tweaks, etc.
Themes: There are a lot to choose from with the "OMG 19 Themes" aroma install but there are a lot more themes that are located in the other SGS3 variant forums. I've managed to get one of the International version "Glass Theme" to work with a few adjustments. Basically it would be nice to see if there was a thread on here to show what themes work and what does not.
Add-ons:Multi-Window, Ink Effect (Multiple Colors), Pop-up Broweser, Volume Rocker Skip track, Back-To-Kill, Multi-Dpi TouchWiz apps, TouchWiz launcher features, etc...
A lot of these add-ons can be found in some of the TWRoms available but wouldnt it be nice to have a thread that gives us the freedom to have these be installed on any TWRoms?
Dumb thread I am sure but I am bored at work so....
Personally I like aosp roms such as cyanogemmod 10.1 over the touchwiz stuff, i just can't stand using the default stock sg3 rom, it's just annoying in a lot of ways. if you were to switch over to aosp i would give you suggestions on tweaks etc, i get blazing fast speeds of data at 8mb/s i get like amazing battery life, my battery usually lasts 2 days no charge before reaching 14% so I don't think touchwiz has all those features but hey I could give you one kernel that i recomend for you that also works on touchwiz, It's the kt747 kernel.
Here is link for that amazing powerful and battery saving kernel. forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1871946
make sure you download either touchwiz version or aosp kernel version because flashing aosp kt747 kernel on touchwiz rom will put u in a bootloop.
good luck

Rawdaddy,
One good app i can suggest you find on the play store is the air push detector because that app will save you from malware bastards who make bad software that pushes spam notifications to your phone that drain your battery. air Push detector is like your antivirus or firewall or the malwarebytes of the phone world. it will knwo all malicious apps after it scans them.
i also use the room toolbox lite which allows you to get tweaks mods etc and even edit buildprops but i'd be careful when editing build props or using roomtoolbox make sure you backup your current rom so if u mess up any settings then you can always go back. One of the most important things I can suggest when it comes to watching downloaded movies on your big gs3 screen phone is to use BS PLAYER, u can get it from the android app store.
I've tested every movie player out there and the only one that is perfect and can run every video well without errors is the bsplayer, if u notice mobo player u might not hear sound but see video and mxplayer vice fersa yet bsplayer can play all hd 720p movies very well. I'm an online movie downloader from scene sites.
another suggestion i recomend is to stay away from MIUI roms and also Jovy's roms such as his xperia, it usually takes Jovy about 5 release updates to get things right, i've tried his roms and data doesn't work right and after im done talking to a person the proximity sensor gets screen stuck on black.
MIUI is just complete junk, i'm a crack flasher flashaholic and I know definately that stuff need serious work for people to even consider seriously, they want to imitate the ios look but the whole things is unstable and battery life sucks.
Use Liquidsmooth Rom if you want super stabiltity.
I'm enjoying the cm10.1 and facebook is working on it just fine.
I also dont' recomend installing themes on any cm10 build, battery life will die.
For battery tips I would recomend you clear battery stats before flashing a new rom and drain your battery all the way, let it fully die then plug it in without unpluging at all until it finishes charging and you should notice great improvement.
Also don't keep battery plugged in yor charger overnight after it's fully charged because i heard that puts excess electricity in your battery and phone causing issues and your battery life won't be prolonged.
Well to be honest ive pretty much tried every rom that there is available for us to use. Ive even tried AT&T roms. From stock ics touchwiz to jb touchwiz. Ive tried most if not all aosp roms aokp roms cm roms paranoid roms pacman roms and I'm still not able to stick with one rom.
Most if not all Aosp based roms suffer from screen flickering and the wake up black screen of death. Some roms have features I like while the others have better visual settings.
I recently just went back to TW roms. Thata why I want to know what I can do to improve my experience with these roms.

Umm. There is some questionable advice in this post. Clearing battery stats? Not sure the poster understands what that does based on his other misinformation. You can leave the phone on the charger overnight without any issues. The phone recognizes the full charge and allows it to run down a bit before charging again. In the morning when you pull it off the charger it may appear to discharge fast but that is because it was not a full charge. That is not an issue. Running the battery dry is also bad info. It can damage the cells in the battery. Don't trust me. Do a little research and see if you come to a different conclusion.

Hi everyone,
I come from the original i9000 Galaxy S where I loved CM, but have upgraded to the S3.
Unlike the i9000, I actually do enjoy Touchwiz on the S3 so am willing to stick with it, but wouldn't mind trying CM10.1 or AOKP 4.2 just for a change. I am aware of their bugs (ie. bluetooth), but my main concern is BATTERY LIFE.
Presently, I'm on stock (rooted) and while I enjoy stock, the battery life has been crap for me since the JB upgrade. Because of this, I am looking to switch to either a custom TW rom or something AOSP.
From your experience, is battery life better or worse for you with Custom TW roms or with AOSP? If you answer Custom TW, can you please let me know which roms you prefer?
Thanks

No one can answer this because each device is different, each person uses their device differently and each device reacts differently to different settings. I'd say just try them out.

My battery is much better on AOKP than it was on TouchWhiz, however, my wife's battery is better than mine and she's on stock TW JB. Never can tell.
I currently am using WickedV6 and the battery life is fantastic. After a normal day, I normally have roughly 50-60% battery life when going to bed. Have not attempted any AOSP Rom on the S3. On my Captivate, the AOSP Roms ate the battery. Barely got through a 12 hour day without having to recharge.
I get about 5 hrs of screen time on AOKP before my phone dies.
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Out of curiosity, are you guys all on wifi all day? I find my battery life to be ok when I'm on wifi, but unfortunately that is not an option for me at work so I am on HSPA+ all day.
Right now with new AOKP build, I am at 20% battery and my work day isnt even over yet....screen on time is only 40 minutes. I have Google Now and location services turned off, but can still barely make it through a work day with minimal screen time.
When I was on stock ICS, I remember going to be with 50% battery and 2 hrs screen time using HSPA+ all day.
so im in a mixup of battery life.. i dont do alot on my phone, some texts, check some emails, fb is nill.. im on the stock battery at this point. im running DU 4.3.1 currently.. i work construction, im up at 4:30 am, an if i didnt charged i'd be dead by 3pm..
Rom and governor can drastically help battery life. my question os a combo of the two.
whats the best battery you've experienced in a stock case without problem, and the rom you used to do so..
i wont trade phone size for increased time yeah that 3600 or whatever.. aint happening.. thanks for the imput..
I got a bigger battery at Batteries Plus 3.6V 3000mAh. With Fox Star rom with synergy kernel V0.10 . I am able to 46 hours. Thats talking texting and playing on the web.

Turn off everything you don't need. Like GPS for sure. Keep the screen dimmer, manually. Maybe even toggle data off unless you want to check something....then toggle it on, then off after. You will still get calls and texts.
How much are you using it through the day? No reason why you shouldn't make it through the day....unless you're using it a lot...instead of working.

Yeah, make sure you're doing all this. Brightness is a huge battery killer, I try and keep it at the lowest whenever possible. Also, this phone has an AMOLED screen, meaning that anything that's black will use less battery than vivid colors. I set my wallpaper to solid black and use a theme that changes many menus/apps to a solid black background.
I've had great luck lately with new Kit Kat based roms and WildKernel
I might suggest waiting for the next version of WildKernal, as there might be (not sure) a small issue with second core control,
and the dev is also going to be releasing his own kernel control app in the near future.
Otherwise, the Slim roms have been fantastic for just plain snappiness, stability, and battery life.
They are on 4.4.4 now,
which is very nice (and stable), but if you're more comfortable with it, they have 4.3 and such as well.
Personally I'm using Validus 6.0, which I'm not sure is offered on XDA for our device, but there is a google group
for Ground Zero roms. It's 4.4.4, ok with battery life, but has a bunch of features.
External link to official Google+ post for Hercules Validus 6 rom
I'd really recommend a Slim Rom if you're not worried about a theme engine though.

This. I ran SlimKat with Wild v008 for the longest time, got great battery life with a combo of SavagedZen and sio (256 read-ahead). It ran very smooth, but I ran into occasional issues like music stuttering while the screen was off. Besides that, though, it was great.
Oh, and no lockscreen lag.
Hello,
What Custom Rom you guys think its best for Battery Life and Stability?
I've been using CM11 for the last few months and now im Trying Omnirom. They are both stable and use the same battery.
I cannot try every rom, so im asking here for your opinion.
I very much doubt battery life would be any different because of ROM version.
It has more to do with individual usage patterns
&
BT On/active/streaming
Brightness level/Auto
Data On/updates/push services
Calls talk time
Text/chat apps
Wi-Fi/Hotspot on/active
I'd say if your getting nearly 2h's of screen on time then the ROM is just fine.
There may be others getting more, but it all depends on how you use your device.
I don't mind charging my phone 2-3 times throughout the day(to help keep it topped up), I don't use Wi-Fi since I have unlimited data, unless it's for a large occasional download (testing new ROM/apps) have auto app updates and push services on) and leave BT on to automatically connect to my car stereo and start streaming music and also always leave auto brightness on.
Personally, I have tried lot's of different Custom Roms, and to be honest, none of them are as good as Stock 4.3 in terms of battery life and stability. Yes, other ROMs offer additional features and Android Versions that would otherwise be unavailable, but are mostly less stable, more laggy and have worse battery life. If you want customisation, you can root and use Xposed Framework.
That said!.. the best custom ROM that I have used is both FML Kitkat and FML Lollipop by MWisBest.

Recently I went back to 4.2.2 (Verizon) because no roms I could find had decent battery life. I started using greenify to help with memory, as I find that soon as it gets to about 100mb free, the lag is terrible.
So in your opinion FML Kitkat vs stock on battery is worse? I briefly tried FML Lolipop but felt it was too early in dev and buggy

Yeah, I've always found that stock Jelly Bean has the best battery life. But your experiences may vary with usage.
I have used CM11, PA, Shiny ROM and FML so far. I cannot compare them to stock, since I haven't used stock due to lack of customization features.
IMO, Shiny ROM + Dirty V Kernel with Nephilim's settings had the best battery life. On standby, my phone ran for more than 2 days without a single charge. Performance was decent, although I wouldn't say that it was ideal.
I'm currently running on the latest FML Lollipop + Smitty L Kernel with Nephilim's settings. The battery life is decent, with about a day and a half standby time. Performance is fantastic. If you value both battery life AND performance, you might as well give this a try, as it is definitely worth the effort.
