extending battery + rom - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

so im in a mixup of battery life.. i dont do alot on my phone, some texts, check some emails, fb is nill.. im on the stock battery at this point. im running DU 4.3.1 currently.. i work construction, im up at 4:30 am, an if i didnt charged i'd be dead by 3pm..
Rom and governor can drastically help battery life. my question os a combo of the two.
whats the best battery you've experienced in a stock case without problem, and the rom you used to do so..
i wont trade phone size for increased time yeah that 3600 or whatever.. aint happening.. thanks for the imput..

I got a bigger battery at Batteries Plus 3.6V 3000mAh. With Fox Star rom with synergy kernel V0.10 . I am able to 46 hours. Thats talking texting and playing on the web.

Turn off everything you don't need. Like GPS for sure. Keep the screen dimmer, manually. Maybe even toggle data off unless you want to check something....then toggle it on, then off after. You will still get calls and texts.
How much are you using it through the day? No reason why you shouldn't make it through the day....unless you're using it a lot...instead of working.

Yeah, make sure you're doing all this. Brightness is a huge battery killer, I try and keep it at the lowest whenever possible. Also, this phone has an AMOLED screen, meaning that anything that's black will use less battery than vivid colors. I set my wallpaper to solid black and use a theme that changes many menus/apps to a solid black background.

I've had great luck lately with new Kit Kat based roms and WildKernel
I might suggest waiting for the next version of WildKernal, as there might be (not sure) a small issue with second core control,
and the dev is also going to be releasing his own kernel control app in the near future.
Otherwise, the Slim roms have been fantastic for just plain snappiness, stability, and battery life.
They are on 4.4.4 now,
which is very nice (and stable), but if you're more comfortable with it, they have 4.3 and such as well.
Personally I'm using Validus 6.0, which I'm not sure is offered on XDA for our device, but there is a google group
for Ground Zero roms. It's 4.4.4, ok with battery life, but has a bunch of features.
External link to official Google+ post for Hercules Validus 6 rom
I'd really recommend a Slim Rom if you're not worried about a theme engine though.

This. I ran SlimKat with Wild v008 for the longest time, got great battery life with a combo of SavagedZen and sio (256 read-ahead). It ran very smooth, but I ran into occasional issues like music stuttering while the screen was off. Besides that, though, it was great.
Oh, and no lockscreen lag.

Best Battery Rom

So I am thinking that JB Roms are still in development and won't have good battery. Is there any good battery roms on ICS?
Also are there any gingerbread roms?
You would be thinking right seeing as jb just came out. Just search and see what people are commenting on, battery wise
DO YOU JELLY?
Can i have a ICS rom and a JB rom running on Boot Manager or do they have to be the same?
I also want to know the answer to this question.
There is no best battery ROM. each ROM behave differently. they will give good battery for some, and bad for others.
what do you reccomend?
It's really less about the ROM, and more about the kernel you use...whether you undervolt or underclock or not, how you set up your apps, and how you use your phone. I'm using mROM at the moment, with Franco's kernel, undervolted. I just swapped kernels today, so I can't speak to the battery life just yet.

+1 on the kernel being important for battery life.
I chose AOKP for its high customization. Lots of ROMs are as smooth, or even maybe a little smoother than AOKP, but many are just way too bare bones for me. I find AOKP to be the best package for my style, allows for nav bar control, notification control and toggles for phone features in the notication tray and many many more things. Plus, on the market there are many AOKP theme apps like Kiwi Cobalt or Purple Kush that make your phone look saaaa-weeeeeet.
And I always run Trinity kernels on my Nexus for battery life. Not sure why, but they seem to give my phone the best life. I haven't had luck with franco or other kernels in that aspect. But every phone and setup is different.
The combo I am running is the best I have found for a perfect balance between great speed and really good battery life on my phone.
Just remember to do backups. :good: The most important thing I can recommend, especially if new to flashing/custom-ing like myself.

I have NEVER tried this Rom.
But the Redemption Rom is supposed to be fast and have amazing battery life.
The catch is ZERO features. Just Stock. But that is why it's so fast apparently and have amazing battery.
Maybe u get to the Softkeys bar, I dunno.
Jellybean ROMs are smashing ICS in terms of battery life on the Nexus, and I think it may be a result of better RAM management. If you're just not ready to take the plunge on JB (source based ROMs are out now btw), and want a mix of customization, and battery life, CM9 may be the way to go. As for Gingerbread... hmmm... I doubt there are any ROMs available for the Nexus, and it sounds like a harsh, Benjamin Button type thing to do to such a great phone, lol.

Here's my take on what really effects battery life:
As long as you have a ROM that doesn't malfunction and keep the phone active when it shouldn't be, all ROMs should get around the same battery life. If they don't, it's probably because you don't know about the difference in their settings - one might simply be using a more aggressive CPU governor. Even if you have a ROM that does absolutely nothing as much as possible, you are the cause of battery drain. I've tried all sorts of ROMs, and in the end, I'm the one causing battery drain. Whether it be me being sloppy and accidentally allowing too many background settings for apps, or me using more battery intensive features, I'm the one draining the battery in the end. From my experience, Stock, Liquid ICS, CM9, AOKP, Jelly Bean, Jelly Bean AOSP, any kernel you want to try, the user has the most affect on the battery life. Try adjusting your habits to improve battery life. I'm a heavy, heavy user (Sometimes with unlimited amperage from a 2.1amp charger, my phone still will die while charging.) I'm also in the Army, and when I know I will be in the field without power for extended periods of time, I change how I interact with my phone. Maybe don't overclock, even underclock/undervolt, use a more strict governor, even disable a CPU core, change Android settings to not allow ANY background apps, always turn off 4G and syncing, of course turn off BT and WiFi when not needed. I change from a user who can barely make it through the day to a user that can make it almost two. If you want something to give you better battery life without changing your habits, go buy a bigger battery or a newer phone.
Trinity 307 kernel all the way!!! Add in its conservative governor option and your conserving a lot of battery. Not to mention the kernel runs at a very low temp so your device will last well beyond the end of your 2yr contract plus it comes with a stock color mod thing that makes your gnex look amazing IMO.

[Q]TouchWiz Themes, Mods, Tweaks, Add-ons, etc...

Have a dumb question in which I am sure a lot of threads have been created about it but I cant seem to find one thread that at least displays what works on our T-Mobile variant SGS3.
What I want to know is what themes work, add-ons, tweaks, etc.
Themes: There are a lot to choose from with the "OMG 19 Themes" aroma install but there are a lot more themes that are located in the other SGS3 variant forums. I've managed to get one of the International version "Glass Theme" to work with a few adjustments. Basically it would be nice to see if there was a thread on here to show what themes work and what does not.
Add-ons:Multi-Window, Ink Effect (Multiple Colors), Pop-up Broweser, Volume Rocker Skip track, Back-To-Kill, Multi-Dpi TouchWiz apps, TouchWiz launcher features, etc...
A lot of these add-ons can be found in some of the TWRoms available but wouldnt it be nice to have a thread that gives us the freedom to have these be installed on any TWRoms?
Dumb thread I am sure but I am bored at work so....
Personally I like aosp roms such as cyanogemmod 10.1 over the touchwiz stuff, i just can't stand using the default stock sg3 rom, it's just annoying in a lot of ways. if you were to switch over to aosp i would give you suggestions on tweaks etc, i get blazing fast speeds of data at 8mb/s i get like amazing battery life, my battery usually lasts 2 days no charge before reaching 14% so I don't think touchwiz has all those features but hey I could give you one kernel that i recomend for you that also works on touchwiz, It's the kt747 kernel.
Here is link for that amazing powerful and battery saving kernel. forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1871946
make sure you download either touchwiz version or aosp kernel version because flashing aosp kt747 kernel on touchwiz rom will put u in a bootloop.
good luck

Rawdaddy,
One good app i can suggest you find on the play store is the air push detector because that app will save you from malware bastards who make bad software that pushes spam notifications to your phone that drain your battery. air Push detector is like your antivirus or firewall or the malwarebytes of the phone world. it will knwo all malicious apps after it scans them.
i also use the room toolbox lite which allows you to get tweaks mods etc and even edit buildprops but i'd be careful when editing build props or using roomtoolbox make sure you backup your current rom so if u mess up any settings then you can always go back. One of the most important things I can suggest when it comes to watching downloaded movies on your big gs3 screen phone is to use BS PLAYER, u can get it from the android app store.
I've tested every movie player out there and the only one that is perfect and can run every video well without errors is the bsplayer, if u notice mobo player u might not hear sound but see video and mxplayer vice fersa yet bsplayer can play all hd 720p movies very well. I'm an online movie downloader from scene sites.
another suggestion i recomend is to stay away from MIUI roms and also Jovy's roms such as his xperia, it usually takes Jovy about 5 release updates to get things right, i've tried his roms and data doesn't work right and after im done talking to a person the proximity sensor gets screen stuck on black.
MIUI is just complete junk, i'm a crack flasher flashaholic and I know definately that stuff need serious work for people to even consider seriously, they want to imitate the ios look but the whole things is unstable and battery life sucks.
Use Liquidsmooth Rom if you want super stabiltity.
I'm enjoying the cm10.1 and facebook is working on it just fine.
I also dont' recomend installing themes on any cm10 build, battery life will die.
For battery tips I would recomend you clear battery stats before flashing a new rom and drain your battery all the way, let it fully die then plug it in without unpluging at all until it finishes charging and you should notice great improvement.
Also don't keep battery plugged in yor charger overnight after it's fully charged because i heard that puts excess electricity in your battery and phone causing issues and your battery life won't be prolonged.
Well to be honest ive pretty much tried every rom that there is available for us to use. Ive even tried AT&T roms. From stock ics touchwiz to jb touchwiz. Ive tried most if not all aosp roms aokp roms cm roms paranoid roms pacman roms and I'm still not able to stick with one rom.
Most if not all Aosp based roms suffer from screen flickering and the wake up black screen of death. Some roms have features I like while the others have better visual settings.
I recently just went back to TW roms. Thata why I want to know what I can do to improve my experience with these roms.

Umm. There is some questionable advice in this post. Clearing battery stats? Not sure the poster understands what that does based on his other misinformation. You can leave the phone on the charger overnight without any issues. The phone recognizes the full charge and allows it to run down a bit before charging again. In the morning when you pull it off the charger it may appear to discharge fast but that is because it was not a full charge. That is not an issue. Running the battery dry is also bad info. It can damage the cells in the battery. Don't trust me. Do a little research and see if you come to a different conclusion.

I've seem to notice the best luck with CyanogenMod 11 Nightly (01/01/13 build). The battery drain hasn't been as bad. I tried CyanFox 4.4.2 and I felt that drained a bit quicker than CM11. Have you tried CM11? I know it's not at a stable release yet, but CM hasn't come out with a 4.4 stable release yet in general.
Seems like a lot of roms are still trying to iron out the bumps. I can post some battery results once i've tried CM11 for the rest of the day here.
I have, it was okay. Idk how to do any tweaks >.< honestly scared to try when idk what i am doing. So i rather be on the safe side & not mess with it, but I noticed there isnt very many roms & etc done for this phone :0/ okay so what about any of the 4.3 roms good on battery?
I'm a major fan of mrfeuss's 4.4 OmniROM. Haven't come across any bugs and am able to pull close to 48 hours with lite usage and listening to music almost all day. The XDA release of viper4android also works extremely well with it. Able to drastically increase the bass of my Sony MDR-XB400's while maintaining amazing clarity.

But you are getting good battery? Unfortunately i have to use my phone a little more than lite, more like medium usage & staying stock is jus ehhh annoying. Thank you very much everyone :0D I appreciate it.

So is it worth putting Kit Kat on GNexus?

Just received this phone and it seems pretty decent for having 4.2.2 but the battery drains like crazy on the phone and it seems that Cell Standby is using the battery the most on this phone at 86%. So is it worth putting Kit Kat on the phone or will battery drain still be a issue with the phone?
I see no reason why not.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Worthy from most aspects, except for battery, where it's mostly decided by how you use your phone. I just couldn't see any difference in battery usage between JB and KK.
Sent from Google Nexus 4 @ CM11
I felt quite a bit of performance difference between stock 4.3 and CM11...for example, RAM usage which would restart the launcher quite often on 4.3 is nearly gone and there are really no bugs to speak of, even in this early stage (I am using the latest stable build, but still...)
YES, I've found performance to be GREAT and best my device has run in a while(had huge ram leak issues before installing KK which caused SERIOUS lag issues)
As for battery life, there isn't very much you can do short of putting device into airplane mode and toggle on WiFi only.(yes you can use wifi in airplane mode)
I don't use carrier anymore, and this is the only time I've gotten a nice boost in battery life. The cell radios in this device (especially the CDMA/LTE version) just gulps down battery life like no other.
You will also see a nice boost just from disabling the cellular data fully or only using 3g.
4.3, I wouldn't even waste time downloading... Gawd I got so used to having to reboot three times a day just to rectify lags caused by memory leaks. So horrid.
I'm loving using this thing again thanks to KK
I haven't noticed a battery life gain, but I have definitely noticed a better overall performance and satisfaction level. I personally like how 4.4.x works and operates better than < 4.3 Maybe I just got burned out on that interface, but 4.4.x is a nice change that is definitely smooth and stable enough to enjoy. My $.05
I also just got GN used and battery life seems fine on CM 10.2.1 (18-22 hours avg.). You might want to consider that your phone is in need of a battery replacement if bought used, or that you are getting a weak signal in your area, making the radio work harder to maintain coverage. Is the phone currently activated? Either way, try airplane mode for the latter case like others have stated.
If you try KK, you might benefit all around from using a custom kernel. Make a nandroid backup before flashing one, look up a few videos on undervolting/overclocking, and check out Nephilim's custom kernel settings thread.
Good luck!

I used the OmniMetal ROM that is listed in the Android Dev section and was quite happy with the battery life. I could get up to 30-32 hours if the phone was left alone and only used to check the time occasionally. Then again, battery life is dependent on on phone usage, so mileage always varies.

There is a great sticky on the GSM GNexus development thread comparing the features of all the popular roms. It is very easy to miss if you have the verizon/sprint variant because those sections have their own set of sticky threads. Anyway, I highly recommend checking that list out since it will save you a ton of time

Are you talking about stock 4.3 or a custom rom? If not stock, then which rom? I've had the home screen refresh on me a few times on CM 10.2 but not as bad as you describe. Maybe I should upgrade for KitKat's lower memory footprint alone.
Remix Rom
Try the Remix Rom, based on KitKat, fast, stable and the battarydarain is awsome! :good:
I've tried out ParanoidAndroid 4.2 and CM11, they both work smooth and stable. As for the battery drain, flash Fancy Kernel and use some of the settings to squeeze some more life and better sound!
hope it helps

Best Custom Rom for Stability and Battery

Hello,
What Custom Rom you guys think its best for Battery Life and Stability?
I've been using CM11 for the last few months and now im Trying Omnirom. They are both stable and use the same battery.
I cannot try every rom, so im asking here for your opinion.
I very much doubt battery life would be any different because of ROM version.
It has more to do with individual usage patterns
&
BT On/active/streaming
Brightness level/Auto
Data On/updates/push services
Calls talk time
Text/chat apps
Wi-Fi/Hotspot on/active
I'd say if your getting nearly 2h's of screen on time then the ROM is just fine.
There may be others getting more, but it all depends on how you use your device.
I don't mind charging my phone 2-3 times throughout the day(to help keep it topped up), I don't use Wi-Fi since I have unlimited data, unless it's for a large occasional download (testing new ROM/apps) have auto app updates and push services on) and leave BT on to automatically connect to my car stereo and start streaming music and also always leave auto brightness on.
Personally, I have tried lot's of different Custom Roms, and to be honest, none of them are as good as Stock 4.3 in terms of battery life and stability. Yes, other ROMs offer additional features and Android Versions that would otherwise be unavailable, but are mostly less stable, more laggy and have worse battery life. If you want customisation, you can root and use Xposed Framework.
That said!.. the best custom ROM that I have used is both FML Kitkat and FML Lollipop by MWisBest.

Recently I went back to 4.2.2 (Verizon) because no roms I could find had decent battery life. I started using greenify to help with memory, as I find that soon as it gets to about 100mb free, the lag is terrible.
So in your opinion FML Kitkat vs stock on battery is worse? I briefly tried FML Lolipop but felt it was too early in dev and buggy

Yeah, I've always found that stock Jelly Bean has the best battery life. But your experiences may vary with usage.
I have used CM11, PA, Shiny ROM and FML so far. I cannot compare them to stock, since I haven't used stock due to lack of customization features.
IMO, Shiny ROM + Dirty V Kernel with Nephilim's settings had the best battery life. On standby, my phone ran for more than 2 days without a single charge. Performance was decent, although I wouldn't say that it was ideal.
I'm currently running on the latest FML Lollipop + Smitty L Kernel with Nephilim's settings. The battery life is decent, with about a day and a half standby time. Performance is fantastic. If you value both battery life AND performance, you might as well give this a try, as it is definitely worth the effort.
