Hello all,
I have had my G Pro a total of 13 days and have used 1.2 gig of data according to AT&T. I use Wifi wherever I can, and have set Google Play to only download updates over Wifi. I think 1.2 gig of data in 13 days is alot, especially when I am not streaming music.
Is it possible that my data connection is persisting even if Wifi is up and operational? Anyone seeing unusually high data usage on their G Pro's too?

Do you have your advanced wifi settings set up so that it is shutting the wifi off when the screen is off? This is how I have mine set to save on battery but it also means that any app that refreshes while the screen is off is using carrier data. But even so, I am only at 500 mb since May 10. Go into the settings and see which of your apps is using all of the data, maybe you have an app that is (for lack of a better term) rogue.
My data is also high, 'Android OS' was the leader in data compsumption . I turned off back up my data and Access to my location, and data has slowed the last 3 days from the Android OS section. I posted screenshots of usage in last 3 days and and 4 days before I turned those settings of.

Even when my phone is 'idle' it seems to be communicating over 3g. Is is normal or is there something I can do, I'm looking to tweak my phone to optimize battery life.
I've already gone through the guide telling me how to optimize my battery. Does anyone have any additional tips on how to optimize battery? Thanks in advance.
Did you shut off autosync for the Facebook for HTC Sense? Seems that thing keeps trying to update I noticed that mine was running like crazy until I shut that off.
I was having same issue and found that the people app was causing data usage. After I killed it data stopped, app still runs fine when launched but seems to only happen on first boot.

I'm having the same issue, i used 300mb of data today and i really didn't even use my phone all that often. I have fresh .3 and full root with nand unlocked. Now is there an app that will monitor bandwidth usage s o i can see which app is chewing my bandwidth? As odd as it seams i think this is just a bug, i tried to capture data use when the 3g data lite was on but it showed minimal (under 60kb in 30 min)usage, its really kind of strange. for now i just turned off data.
On another note, I'm noticing something very very odd with my phone... even after i kill WIFI tethering app my pc is still connected and i can still use data, its odd.
Shortly after I got my VZW Galaxy Nexus, I opened up the data usage monitor to change some settings. It went a little crazy, then it force closed. Now every time I try to pull up the Data Usage screen, the "Settings" app just freezes, then eventually force closes. I can get Data Usage to open, but I have to put the phone in Airplane Mode first. Once I turn Mobile Data back on, it freezes again.
Anyone else experiencing this? Any suggestions for a fix? I suppose this isn't crucial for me, but it would be nice to have it working
I have exactly the same issue. It was present with the stock Android 4.0.2 (ICL53F) and with the Revolution HD 2.1.5 after rooting.
However I figured a way to start the data usage normally (without going to Airplane mode). You have to go to Settings > More... > Mobile networks > Check off the Data enabled box
Then go back and check your traffic by clicking on Data usage
This is the only workaround I found so far, except for the Airplane mode (which is more time consuming, having in mind that you have to enter your pin afterwards and look for network).
I believe that this is an ICS bug and it should be fixed. The data usage cannot be opened while you are using your data connection, that is bs. Instead of force closing I sent few reports to Google via the phone, but i don't think they will be acknowledged when coming from a rooted phone with a custom image.
Mine works normal and I'm on stock 4.0.2.
Do you have Mobile data on?
CDMA or GSM

I figured another workround. Set a data warning and it will no longer FC. At least that worked for me. I set it at 1.6 GB. Although I have unlimited data plan I have never reached more than 1 GB of traffic anyway.

HUGE BUMP.
But is the only place I've ever seen this issue discussed.
What happens if you just can't access this screen?
Not even with Airplane mode...
I don't know what to do... and I'm on Kitkat now. Still same problem.
Hello, I've seen a few threads with people complaining about their inability to use data, but my problem is the opposite, even though I'm on wifi the phone seems be using mobile data still.
I rooted my LG Optimus G (canadian, e973) and installed cyanogenmod (10.2) recently. After reinstalling all my old apps, i got a text saying I went over my data usage. In my phone's settings, I've turned off data and the little chart that tracks usage says I haven't used any but when I called telus they said I've passed by limit by a few megabytes. I disabled data and I've been on wifi this whole time, except it's still draining data. Has this problem come up before? What should I do? Any input is appreciated
I had recently moved to MIUI V6 Global Beta from Mokee 51.1. What I Recently Observed that the Android System was Using too much data in background. Whether I use cellular data or a wifi, it would unnecessarily use data. My Google Sync is off, My Backups and location are also off. I dont understand what is causing such data usage. I dont remember this kind of usage in any of my previous roms.
Can anyone tell give me a solution for it, I dont have a wifi all the time and mostly use 1GB per month data connection which gives me about 34MB per day and cant afford Android System Using 10-15 MB Data per day.
Hello,
I've noticed horrible performance on my phone in the last few days. I did an upgrade to 5.1.1 in January and then a Factory Reset. Things have been much much better on the phone since. The last few days I've noticed some strange behavior. I've had to reboot a lot and it's been sluggish. I'm having trouble installing apps as well.
What worries me the most is that Google Books used .73 GB today alone and AccuWeather used .6 GB in about a day as well. Any idea of what's causing all of this? I don't wanna blow through my data - it's early in my cycle as well. This has never happened.

I thought that the issue was with my phone but I've encountered the same issue as well.
Since I updated my note 4 to 5.1.1 my data has spiked.
My data connection has always been h+ but after the update I started to get 4G LTE speeds. Now in a matter of 2 days of normal usage I'm on 3gb used data. I just restrict background data and use lots of wifi to safe data
Do you have problems with data connection falling while making a phone call.? Every time I make a call I get a msg saying no data connection!
I'm also also seeing insane data usage patterns with android OS background. Each month more that 10GB use. 26.5GB this month alone. I've taken out all bloatware I do not use, and replaced most original apps. All apps I do use, are clearly listed. My Android 5.0.2 tablet uses more data than my gaming system and workstation combined. 17GB last month also. Always background use, usually in large blocks. This is like the svhost issues on windows. Are there any apps that parse the modules and connections the background Android system uses, on a non-rooted device? Apps that can break it down? The system logs seem to reveal nothing. I hope Google is not running some sort of distributed computing app in the background. Someone must know what this is, without making wild guesses.
