Hi,
I have tried scouring the web and have had no luck finding a release date besides Q2. Has anyone heard any updates regarding the release of the Sony Xperia Ion?
The Washington Post casually mentioned April 8 as the ion's release date when discussing a Nokia Windows phone. Everything else refers to the Washington Post article when claiming April 8. There doesn't appear to be any official word, but AT&T wasn't forthcoming on the Xperia X10 either. We'll find out soon enough about the 8th. Hopefully official word will come soon.
Well, it looks like the Washington Post had it wrong. Back to waiting in the dark.
if they don't release it soon I think Im going for the Samsung Skyrocket as it's pretty much the same hardware without the NFC tags or smart watch.

well.... i recommend that you wait for the Xperia Ion. although it does not support the NFC tags, it's way better than the Samsung skyrocket. I've tried a lot of Samsung devices and they don't even compare to a Sony phone. I have an Xperia play and my bro has a skyrocket, it's funny how he has way better hard ware but my phone functions better....
I'm anxious for the cool integration to my Bravia TV. Sony's doc looks great too. I have already sold my iPhone 4 and have my SIM in an old HTC Inspire waiting for the Sony.
I am also getting sick of the wait. Too many phones that were at CES have at least a release date. Q2 is too broad. The SmartWatch is out, when is this baby being released? My Captivate is getting laggy beyond belief.
According to Sony Mobile developer World, the ION does support NFC. http://developer.sonymobile.com/wp/2012/01/10/nfc-support-in-new-xperia-devices/
PLEASE RELEASE >>> ION <<<

>> > Xperia Ion Release Date: Probably in June! <<<
in :
theandroidsoul.com/xperia-ion-release-date-probably-in-june
it will be sometime in the upcoming 3 weeks. I've read several dates this month (21-26), and had 'very early July' for availability mentioned to me by AT&T order csr when I asked if the ion would fall within the GSIII's 30 day grace period.
So I have been checking the web constantly for the Ion release date. Though I have yet to find something concrete, something caught my eye yesterday. I did a google search for Xperia Ion and when the description came up for Sony's website, it said "Coming in June only from AT&T." Well I did the same search this morning so I could take a screen shot of what I saw and now the description says, "Coming Soon only from AT&T." I bet what I saw was accidentally put in the meta description then taken down. Hope this is correct. I'm due for upgrade in June and I really want the Ion. The One X is my second choice, but I really want that HDMI out!
Hope someone here has some inside information.
I figured out if you continuously hit refresh, the ad description updates. Here's the screenshot.

S3 CPU and Gingerbread? No thanks. Sony should at least have had an.S4 to appeal better vs phones like the One X and SGS3. Average consumer will prolly be swayed my the mp count but still, it should have been better overall

I disagree, partially. I really wished Sony would learn from previous experience and wouldn't be late to the quadcore party or at least come up with a 2012 SoC during 2012, but in the other hand some people will prefer the design and camera over other ubiquitous phones by other manufacturers.
Glad to see someone out there cares about this phone. I honestly expect the 4.0 update to be ready within a month of the release of the phone. I can't stand touchwiz or sense. I'm using a captivate atm. I immediately flashed a rom to get rid of touchwiz. I however have my x10 running wolf breaks tweaked stock 2.3 rom because I actually like the Sony UI. Besides, no phone on the market will have a camera comparable to the ion. 1.5ghz dual core seems like plenty of fire power for me. My captivate is smooth with ICS and a single core, don't see how the Sony won't do just as well, especially after the ICS update. The One X is my backup plan, but I really want that ION!

I wouldn't recommend HTC, their build quality and service are not comparable to Samsung, Apple or Sony.
Sammy always has the hottest hardware but their phones look plasticky and Touchwiz is not my taste. Matter of personal choices.
I'm currently using the Arc with ICS update.
Wow. That phone almost makes me want to go back to AT&T. GBs not that big of a deal, hopefully devs will jump on that phone pretty quickly and get some custom ROMs going...

Hi Orb3000, nice to see you again
You must reconsider your decission because the OP is NOT a question but a statement. The guy found an interesting slip in google advertising system which confirmed a June release date for the aforementioned phone.
Whatsmore, many recognized tech blogs acknowledged his finding and published notes about it, some even linking here to xda-devs as the source of the finding.
Just got my Xperia Ion! Here's a couple of photos next to my Xperia S, along with the Antutu benchmark!
Where did you get it from?
I'm hoping they announce it's release on AT&T very soon!
U got an S and an Ion??? SHOWOFF!!! eb

It's amazing to me how little AT&T is pushing this phone. You go to the AT&T website and you have to dig to find it (whereas the one x and the sgIII are on the front page). I understand those are higher end devices, but it seems as if AT&T doesn't really care at all about what is a pretty decent phone. Even when I walked into the AT&T store, they looked at me like I was crazy for asking for the ion (maybe they forgot how to sell anything other than iphones....)

The phone is finally visible on the site, I find it interesting..I emailed Sony about that and a few hours later the phone magically appeared!
I ordered my phone online through the website the day it was released (like you said had to dig through the search bar to find it). Unfortunately I was unable to upgrade from my end so I had to call 611.
At&t must not have told many people about its roll out because the rep who helped me had no clue that this phone existed but had no problem searching it himself and ordering it on his end. I emphasize this because he flat out told me he keeps up with all the employee updates and me asking about the phone was the first he ever heard of it.
Long story short he ordered the phone for himself and expressed my order so we both can baste in its awesomeness asap!
From Codeworkx blog:
Having a look at my magical orb…
I can see that i’ll sell my Galaxy S III in the next few weeks and get a Sony Xperia T as replacement.
This means that i’ll not longer support this phone. Xplodwild will continue providing CyanogenMod support as far as i know.
I’ll continue supporting the Galaxy S II (exynos4 version) for now. There’s still a lot to do.
If samsung doesn’t provide new jellybean compatible blobs (mali, hwcomposer) and kernel sources over the next few months then i’ll stop supporting it, too.
I’ll continue support for the Galaxy S II (omap4 version) and the Galaxy Tab II (omap4 version) till my devices are dead or not capable of running a new android version.
And last but not least:
I’ll stay away from all exynos powered phones as long as there is no proper support from samsung in form of documentation and sourcecode (especially userspace) to get aosp properly working on it. (see caf and omapzoom as good example)
In short: i’ll not support new samsung devices in future.

I don't get it. Is Samsung dropping the ball more than usual on something?
Why would anyone expect Sony to be better. They have never been a leader in aftermarket dev support, afaik.

No. Sony has a single device that someone inside Google decided to try to make compatible with stock AOSP and Sony has been helping them. I don't see why that would be a reason to switch to Sony since they aren't doing the same for all their other devices.
this is locked. thread has no purpose.
There's an off topic thread for this kind of stuff
a guess it is, I have a Xperia Pro, it is a very modded and tweaked ICS phone, while my mate having a Xperia Arc (GB not modded, and I personally just tweaked it a little using Pimp my Rom)
and GB is soo much better! we're having same antutu at 4800+ @1GH plus great camera focus, a noticeably great pictures with bravia engine and aint really know if Bravia Engine in my device is working, plus when were playing games on his arc, aint got lags (after i tweaked it) damnit, maybe its about Ericson's 10 years of experience in the industry
well, unfornutely Sony were really forced to do a "stake buying" from Ericson, according to wikipedia.org, for which the Sony Ericson has some "money" problems despite of great sales ( my mom used to buy me sony ericson products, and my mom was not that techie, she's just know that Sony Ericson are way better against other mobile brands)
but sony must've taken ericson's developers so that the Solid Rock GB must have been now Solid Rock ICS
It's not because Ericsson programers were better its just that Arc is too old and weak for ICS, also updating old devices is not profitable for phone manufacturers. I'm sure that even if Sony Ericsson was still with us ICS would be as ****ty as it is right now.

lol. I have never seen such a funny, thoughtless thread in XDA before.
Firstly, those developers who made your Gingerbread are the same people who made your ICS. It's clearly stated that your phone might under perform due to increased specification of ICS. I can guarantee my Xperia Ion is as smooth as when it had Gingerbread. Secondly, Sony sold more phones than Sony Ericsson.
And finally, it's Sony Ericsson not Ericson. LOL.
And if you hate ICS so much then you can downgrade to GB easily.

If you are talking about G1 then this point is retarded because JB was ported to this device only to show that its possible. It runs at 5fps and is unusable. Seriously you think that if my microwave can boot JB then Arc is capable of running ICS smoothly? It doesn't make any sense.

Well last time I've checked there was a You Tube video of a guy that managed to boot 4.1.2 on G1 and it was laggy as hell so I don't believe that a device with 192MB of RAM and 500MHz CPU is able to run JB smoothly. Clean, debloated CM10 takes 300MB of my RAM to run. Guys from YouMobile.org should start a site about gardening because apparently they don't know **** about phones.

anyway, heard the name Kunimasa Suzuki? CEO of Sony Mobile? cum`n dude, of course u misinterpret the word "JAPANESE" as All the developers are all japanese, they may have different nationalities of Coders/Programmers, what im saying is, the "HEAD" the one that makes the planning! the execution on how everything will be done, not really the "coders" or the literal programmers.
u know im a Fan of Sony/Xperia, and im a die hard fan, i researched everything on what really happened
Sony has 2 or more developments centers, the one is based on tokyo, the one is based on Lund, Sweden, developments are not just for xperia, its for all Sony Products, swedish coders are not that good, compare to russia, india, united states, ofcourse Sony wants better! so they could hire any nationality they want, japanese were good, but they're having hard time programming cuz they have a different software development programs and its in japanese, u get the point?
one thing, u want to fight? im not into fighting, fighting is not that cool for me plus please dont argue, if u really wanna argue, not on me, i saw your other post on other threads some of them are in "OFFENSIVE" mode, i think u get the point.

Nope, do not wish to fight you.
I'm still stand by my words. Sony Mobile's software team is still the same. Though that might be some structural changes, the bulk of it remains the same. So what Sony Mobile's CEO is a Japanese? Is he the one programming? It's clearly stated that Sony Mobile's software development team remains at Sweden. It's awkward and not correct to fire the whole team and re hire another group.
Cheers!
Edit: btw, it is not that Sony software suck, simply, Xperia Arc is too weak to handle ICS. My Xperia Ion runs it smoother than a melted ice cream.

Hi. The post I put up earlier shows that Sony can't tell us whether they will update the smartwatch. Could someone find a way to confirm that the watch will be updated so that I could by one
Unfortunately until it's officially confirmed individual emails from various members of customers services are likely to say different things.
Even official posts on Twitter or other social media site still do not guarantee android 2 on the swr50.
It's just a waiting game and fingers crossed...love my watch as it is now and yes aw2 would be nice but I did not buy it with that in mind....
What I also find suspicious is that aw2 is already out in preview mode for other watch phones yet nothing for swr50.
Not a good sign....But enjoy your watch now.
No mention of Sony Smartwatch 3 in list for Wear 2.0.
http://www.theverge.com/2016/12/22/14057656/google-smartwatch-android-wear-2-0-launch
android central also posted the list, no AW2.0 for SW3..
http://www.androidcentral.com/these-are-smartwatches-will-get-android-wear-20
:crying:
oh well, time to save up for something else and move on. It's been great SW3, but it looks like your time on my wrist is almost at an end. Note to self - you're not buying a watch, you're buying a phone accessory, so expect to replace it as often as your phone.
i think they will manage it somehow, why they would confirm it on twitter, support etc.

On one hand. Getting AW2.0 would be good to keep the device alive. BUT... All or most of the AW2.0 Dev Previews were for ROUND devices and the UI looks to be made around that form factor. And the SWr50 is Square... I think AW1.5 better suits SWr50 more that AW2.0.

Good point. Also, the sources that told you which devices are getting AW2.0 can't confirm anything... They can only go off what information they have. As Sony hasn't given anything, we just have to wait and see. Them not putting the SWr50 on the list is just lack of information for the time being.
I have written to Sony Support a moment ago and i'll see.

No, they added round screen lists, they didn't take square away. Square watches won't have round menus.

Yeah, I think it's best to get in contact with the technical department or something because I guess the people in charge of the commercial aspect (twitter/FB) will probably say something like that " Wait for the notification to appear " even tho they don't know much about current or future firmware developing of android wear.

Just to add my thoughts.... The sony z3 had an android 7.0 beta but was never released with sony saying it couldn't because it did not meet googles hardware rules. Specifically support for opengl 3.0 or vulkon. I wonder if its the same for the smartwaches as they will be upgraded to 7.1. I know the sw3 has opengl 2.0 but not sure what each watch on the list has.(Apart from nixon and moto sport have opengl 3.0). Any way if its not that then maybe something similar.
