Xperia Ion due in June for AT&T!? - Sony Xperia S, Acro S, Ion

So I have been checking the web constantly for the Ion release date. Though I have yet to find something concrete, something caught my eye yesterday. I did a google search for Xperia Ion and when the description came up for Sony's website, it said "Coming in June only from AT&T." Well I did the same search this morning so I could take a screen shot of what I saw and now the description says, "Coming Soon only from AT&T." I bet what I saw was accidentally put in the meta description then taken down. Hope this is correct. I'm due for upgrade in June and I really want the Ion. The One X is my second choice, but I really want that HDMI out!
Hope someone here has some inside information.

I figured out if you continuously hit refresh, the ad description updates. Here's the screenshot.

Congrats,

S3 CPU and Gingerbread? No thanks. Sony should at least have had an.S4 to appeal better vs phones like the One X and SGS3. Average consumer will prolly be swayed my the mp count but still, it should have been better overall

I disagree, partially. I really wished Sony would learn from previous experience and wouldn't be late to the quadcore party or at least come up with a 2012 SoC during 2012, but in the other hand some people will prefer the design and camera over other ubiquitous phones by other manufacturers.

Glad to see someone out there cares about this phone. I honestly expect the 4.0 update to be ready within a month of the release of the phone. I can't stand touchwiz or sense. I'm using a captivate atm. I immediately flashed a rom to get rid of touchwiz. I however have my x10 running wolf breaks tweaked stock 2.3 rom because I actually like the Sony UI. Besides, no phone on the market will have a camera comparable to the ion. 1.5ghz dual core seems like plenty of fire power for me. My captivate is smooth with ICS and a single core, don't see how the Sony won't do just as well, especially after the ICS update. The One X is my backup plan, but I really want that ION!

I wouldn't recommend HTC, their build quality and service are not comparable to Samsung, Apple or Sony.
Sammy always has the hottest hardware but their phones look plasticky and Touchwiz is not my taste. Matter of personal choices.
I'm currently using the Arc with ICS update.

Wow. That phone almost makes me want to go back to AT&T. GBs not that big of a deal, hopefully devs will jump on that phone pretty quickly and get some custom ROMs going...

Hi Orb3000, nice to see you again
You must reconsider your decission because the OP is NOT a question but a statement. The guy found an interesting slip in google advertising system which confirmed a June release date for the aforementioned phone.
Whatsmore, many recognized tech blogs acknowledged his finding and published notes about it, some even linking here to xda-devs as the source of the finding.

Just got my Xperia Ion! Here's a couple of photos next to my Xperia S, along with the Antutu benchmark!

Where did you get it from?
I'm hoping they announce it's release on AT&T very soon!

U got an S and an Ion??? SHOWOFF!!! eb

crazy
It's amazing to me how little AT&T is pushing this phone. You go to the AT&T website and you have to dig to find it (whereas the one x and the sgIII are on the front page). I understand those are higher end devices, but it seems as if AT&T doesn't really care at all about what is a pretty decent phone. Even when I walked into the AT&T store, they looked at me like I was crazy for asking for the ion (maybe they forgot how to sell anything other than iphones....)

The phone is finally visible on the site, I find it interesting..I emailed Sony about that and a few hours later the phone magically appeared!
I ordered my phone online through the website the day it was released (like you said had to dig through the search bar to find it). Unfortunately I was unable to upgrade from my end so I had to call 611.
At&t must not have told many people about its roll out because the rep who helped me had no clue that this phone existed but had no problem searching it himself and ordering it on his end. I emphasize this because he flat out told me he keeps up with all the employee updates and me asking about the phone was the first he ever heard of it.
Long story short he ordered the phone for himself and expressed my order so we both can baste in its awesomeness asap!

[Q]Why is there no OSS solution for unlocking branded Plays?

I'm just pointing out what feels like the elephant in the room here. Excuse me if I'm out of line.
I bought a Play coming from the HTC Eris (CDMA Hero), and the Eris is an amazing phone. I still lurk on the forums (and really sad it got shuffled, but out with the old, in with the new.) The community there really extended its life far beyond what Verizon gave it (it officially died with 2.1, but right now mine is running CM7 2.3.7.) Overall it was a great community to get introduced to Android with, and I'm very appreciative of all the devs that worked hard to make the Eris experience much, much more amazing.
So, I purchased my R800x in October, and I was excited. New phone, new community; I was really pumped to see what everyone here was cooking up. But we seem to be stuck in a holding pattern of some sort. I can definitely see there are a lot of talented people very eager to dev and cook up roms, but I'm finding the same loop everywhere: "Can we unlock bootloaders yet" maybe "CM7?" no.
Now, I don't expect anyone to do anything simply because this is here. That's not the point of the question. The question is (twofold): Why is there no open source boot loader unlock for all Xperia Plays? I went through the dev forum archives and can't really find anything concrete as to why phones like the R800x don't have one. And if there is an issue (or even if there is not), how can I help? I want to get involved. I don't have much experience with unlocking bootloaders, but I have gone through the Android source, and feel I'm moderately familiar with how Android works.

Same here, i was introduced brilliantly into the community when i bought my galaxy s, the development page was packed everyday of different stuff, with the play no ones trying.... but some people are. You can unlock your boot loader but it does cost a small amount of money, check the development section. Im 14 & don't really have a paypal account so i can't unlock mine either lol. We can't really help, were just 2 people out of 7,000,000,000 :L
People, the fact that the Play has few devs behind it is simple: sales. The Play has been a big flop. That is the mere reason why we're left with little support in comparison to other phones. Forget locked or unlocked bootloaders, open or closed operative systems or whatever, it's not relevant: if a phone/tablet/whatever sells well, it will be tinkered with. Commercial developers want money, amateurs are glory hounds eager to be like Darky or Geohot, and some just want to help selflessly, but the motivations of the three have sales as the common point.

Well its the best thing that ever happened in mobile gaming, compared to n gage anyway lol
I came from an Eris as well, handed it down to my niece, she is still using with 2.3.7.
I got my play back in June. In early August a dev named ashergray did figure out how to unlock the bootloader. Mine was one of the first 5-10 that they did. Lucky for me, it was free.
I am not sure if the devs involved were contacted by verizon, i think i read that somewhere, but they stopped doing it.
Right now theres a guy doing it for like 20 bucks. Kinda sucks but whatever.
Your not missing all that much yet, right now I am running Doom Kernel with the UK generic firmware. Its better then stock verizon, but not by leaps and bounds.
I think the noted difference between this community and the Eris community, is that the Eris was one of the first driod phones and it was dirt F'n cheap! Now that verizon has this going for 50 bucks, maybe we will get an increase in our community and dev population.
Oh and in general, gamers are arrogant assholes. You will see alot of that in here too.
Who would I contact about unlocking the bootloader on my R800x? I am willing to Donate to get it done. Thanks.
Check in the Development section

The way we got our early unlock was through a workaround in Sony Ericsson's standard unlock web interface. R800i gets a free bootloader unlock from Sony themselves. All you need is your IMEI number, go to their website, and type it in. It give you an unlock code and instructions on how to use it.
R800x doesn't have an IMEI, it has an MEID. The website wouldn't accept numbers with a letter in it (imei are all numbers). However, it was only the form on the website that filtered the input. Ashergrey found a way to feed the MEID directly to the unlocking program, and he was able to produce unlock codes. Sony eventually caught wind of this exploit and patched their website so now there's no free workaround to unlock.
The guy who you have to pay to unlock is allejandrissimo. You only have to pay to unlock because he has to buy credits for a sony ericsson program to do the unlocks. He is charging for the amount of the credits. This is currently the only way to do a bootloader unlock.
And honestly, this phone isn't selling well because it really isn't that great a phone. The controller is brilliant, don't get me wrong, but its a single core device with 384 meg of ram and maybe 512 of internal storage that came out at the same time as the droid x2 and similar devices, with 16 GIG of internal storage and 512 to 1GIG of ram, plus dual core to boot. And it came out at the same pricepoint. Seriously, my wife has a droid2 global, and its has 2 GIG of internal storage.
If xperia play had come out 6 months earlier, it would have been a big hit. Sony botched this one because, like most of their corporate marketing, they believe that the gamer portion of their population is stupid and will buy anything with the "playstation" name attached to it. Need I remind you of the initial PS3 marketing strategies? I almost didn't buy this phone because of the bad rep Sony had with me, related to how they treated their PS3 customers. Ultimately, my inner gamer won out.
Here's to hoping for an xperia play 2 that's got a decent screen, decent internal memory, and decent ram.

You have a point with the ram and Internal Storage, but Single core devices aren't really needed yet, Look at Dead space, GTA and other high graphic games, Off course it would be nice to have a Dual core but imo the xperia play could have been better if they put more into it (HDMI, Better screen...)
I agree that in reality it isn't a big deal. But with consumer products, perception drives reality. The phone was seen as being "lesser", and thus doesn't sell well.

Dual core or not , it's still among the best , but remember no games or even softwares are near being made for dual core devices anyways . All made the same some optimum (HD) for certain ones i.e Xperia play among others. And so far as the HDMI it's believed it's built-in , just not user friendly with current update .

But all in all, I love this post because even I said the same, the xperia is the only android todate that's a pain in the rear about everything , simple things are gigntic with it. I remember the G1 could even install recovery from it's own terminal emulator , seriously , even the G1 could do such a basic function , but you turn left or right , it's the same excuses everywhere it seems no one really knowing anything

I've compiled a whole thread about the whole resources at your disposal about rooting, unlocking, flashing stuff, and so on; I've asked mods to make it a sticky thread without an answer of any kind; and now recently I've been reading more and more comments about how "nobody knows anything concrete" or "there are no threads about this stuff".
I give up. It's just pointless.
*edit* it seems that my query to the mood never went to them. I'm quite puzzled about the why.

Agree with ya logseman big time
I also agree this phone is a good gamer phone.
but I also agree that the community or lack of one is really disappointing since I came from droid X community. there was so much going on there and compared to this its like comparing night to day.
Still , it's pathetic , because other phones even with a huge marketing profits weren't as hard nor complicated as the Zeus, I.E G1 , though it was a commercial success it still wasn't a pain to do anything , fact of the matter is , with or without development , the Zeus is still "roadblocked" compared to other androids which a newbie could easily.tweak.

I haven't linked ease of modding and sales in any way. I'm just saying that if a phone is successful in the market, it will be modded. The big name Galaxies are ROM whores that you can Sim unlock for free and they have lots of roms, tweaks and stuff... But then the iThings are very hard to mod yet they have huge quantities of stuff for jailbroken units.
Maemo phones were really easy to mod, webOS devices were seemingly hard to break, and both have little content in comparison to the former two.
It boils down to sales: we as users gamble on the popularity of a device: Galaxies and iThings have millions and millions of users, while maemo and webOS have only thousands.

For all thouse wonder if the SGS3 will be a One X beater

I can't say much as my source is under an NDA but i can say that from what i have been told you'll be better of getting a One X. I can quantify this by also saying that Touchwiz will employ a drawer style interface, the hardware specs are little lower than the One x's and that device is housed in a curved plastic case (i'm still trying to clarify what that means exactly).
I can't say more till may 3rd as it looks like i will be attending the launch event in London, if everything goes to plan.
Please don't ask me any further questions on this. I may have the answers but i really can't give them. I really can't afford a legal fight with samsung over this. If anything i wanted to try and encourage any hangers on to stop wasting time (and save a lot of disappointment)
I will also say the source is reliable, he is a user of XDA and a good friend of mine. He is also the person that is arranging my tickets to the launch event. He used the device to today in one of samsungs global HQ's and i trust his opinion and judgement completely.
I can't stress enough that this is not a rumour or random fan boy hate speculation (hell if he sees this i may even lose my job).

For all members asking if they should buy the One X. Video that answers your FAQ's.

A video below of a well known tech blogger who gives his impressions and thoughts about the galaxy s3 and he compares it to the One X. In short words he states that the One X is hands down the better phone in build quality, overall design is better and for a flagship phone the One X feels more premium and in all aspects beats the S3.
So this for all the members out there who are debating to go for the S3 or One X check this video first and well you should have your answer.
Would like to say this is not to start another flame war thread this is merely to point out to new users that this thread is to give pointers to members who open threads and ask about if they should buy the One X or not. So rather than opening pointless threads and asking come here instead and watch the video and this should make your mind up. Feel free to comment and ask your questions here. Please do not open threads asking if you should buy it or not. Ask your questions here
Enjoy
I'm getting crazy about these comparison threads....

dude i am not whining. i already have the one x. this is basically to show people the reason why they should get the phone and also this is a thread were people can ask all the questions they want and ask regarding why they should buy the One X. Simple as that..No moaning or comparing..
and another thing. would you prefer people opening pointless threads all over the forum asking if they should buy the phone or not? is it not better to have one thread were they can ask instead. this is the whole logic behind this thread and just give them the above video that clearly states why they should go for it and answers most frequent questions people have anyway. So no whining, no moaning and no comparing.

Forgive me if I seem a bit cynical, but a large number of your posts in the HOX forums are about the S3, so you can't blame people for thinking you have a hidden agenda.
It's almost like you're trying some sort of bizarre brainwashing technique - mention the S3 as many times as possible while at the same time denying any affiliation to it and people will start to think it's better in some way.

no you have every right to be cynical. and yeah i was leaning towards going for the s3. but like always when actually sitting down and thinking about it and reading alot this time around and reading posts by Hamdir and reading his threads about the One X there is no doubt that i have one of the best phones in the world and i should stop being a cry baby.
my anger and my moaning was due to all the issues i had with the One X so far. but after being told that they are rebuilding my phone from scratch in repair center and sticking brand new parts and reading posts in the comparison threads and the video above in the end there is only one winner and that is the One X..and i thought i share this video and to others who was in the same position as me can see why the One X is better..Hope this clears it up a bit more...and i still stand by saying that this as well can help people who wondering about the one x that here is the best place to be to find out why they should go for it
The guy in the video doesn’t even have a S3 on hand to review, all he did was summarise what he read on the web.
Personally had the S3 came out around the same time as One X, I’d have gone for the S3. But after playing around with the S3 in the shop, I don’t see any reason to sell my One X (running smoothly on custom rom) for the it.
However, the S3 screen is just as good as the One X IMO, have advantages of unlocked bootloader, likely longer screen usage time and expendable memory/battery.
I think Samsung made the wrong decision to make their flagship phone with 4.8” screen. When I was in the phone shop, a lot of people was interested in the S3 but was not sure about the large size. Samsung don’t have a similar performance phone with smaller size like the One S.

I also have problems with the HOX and a the moment its on repair the second time (i also got a new one with baaad screen ripple effect). The S3 is a nice phone but its not great like the HOX. Im really annoyed about the quality management of HTC and shame on them they released a phone with such f***ing issues like screen flex/ripple or screen loose.
In the end i decided to wait until i get a good one without any issues, because i freaking love the HOX, especially the screen and the unibody which feel pretty noble. I dont care about getting additional free space like micro SD(and come on 32 GB is more than enough) neither the possibility of changing the battery. This phone is sure one of the best phones the smartphone market will have for quite a period of time.
My advice to potential buyers is they should try it in a store and decide if they like it or not.
So thats all for now.
@goku have fun with your one x if you get it back ;-D.

Thank you. Well it has been two weeks now without it. And yes looking forward having it bk. Advice to potential owners is not to get sucked by the hype but instead to go for user experience which the one x delivers.

Now a days people just care about Benchmark score rather than the overall quality of the phone. My advice go through all aspects before you buy it. There are lot more than just benchmark scores.

exactly. this is why my advice is rather than thinking about performance go for the all round media experience and user experience out of the box instead of support from third party software..this is were the One X provides it.
Like i keep on saying. I will not lie..I was seriously rethinking of selling my one x and going back to sammy. but after reading user experiences with the handset and actually playing with my friends one for a day i am glad to stick with my one x. plus the video in OP sums up the reason why i suggest to users who open up threads asking why they should buy this to have a look. The video says it all.
This video was uploaded I think a couple of days after Samsung's announcement. The person doesn't have the phone and gives his opinion. That's understandable. However people that actually have had the S3 are saying that it's a better device than the one x. Why listen to this guy who gives his subjective opinions?

hey baron mate. true the blogger did not have the phone and commented from watching the many videos out there already. i really do listen to what he has to say as he has been reviewing many phones for the last few years and he is a vivid android user and i respect his opinions as due to his reviews i made decisions to buy a handset.
Like i said many times in this thread. The reason why i posted this video is for the many members who open pointless "why i should buy the One X" thread or "what are the advantages" threads to come here instead and watch the video and see why they should buy this phone. It is not to compare which one is better it is for people to see what qualities the phone has over others and go for it..
So One X forum, i give a One X video that a tech blogger gives his opinions about it over another flagship and answers the many questions that members have about the phone. That way they can see the video and make up there own minds.
and please let us not start this into a S3 is better and that kinda stuff as this is not what this thread was meant for. this is for as a guide to other new members who are interested in buying the phone and the video gives the points on why users should do over the s3 and other phones in general. so please let us keep it to that

Don't get me wrong I respect your opinion. But let's be real here, it is an attempt to say that the one x is better. This is you from your op:
"In short words he states that the One X is hands down the better phone in build quality, overall design is better and for a flagship phone the One X feels more premium and in all aspects beats the S3."
Now you tell me that it isn't to compare it to the S3? I mean I know this is a one x forum and most will agree with you, but let's say what it is. I've watched blackprince310 forever in fact, I'm one of his subscribers. But I can give you easily 5 links that show people comparing the S3 and the one x and they're saying it's better, and they actually have both phones in hands! I'm not trying to make it look like Im hating on the one x, my one x has shipped from handtec YESTERDAY and just cleared customs in the US. I've spent a little more than 600$ on it so there's no reason for me to be a hater. If you want to help people make a one x purchase, you should point out the things where it excels at, not providing a vid of a guy GIVING HiS OPINION ON THE S3 release. It makes no sense. Sorry bro.

Lol, it's inevitable. The thread itself was a mistake cause it's not helping people wanting to purchase the phone, just trying to prove that the S3 is a disappointment and that the one x is better. That's not how you try to get people to buy a new device. Ok I'm done
I've looked the video and its not "all" realistic because hi has no S III but it's his opinion, and I must say that I agree with him.
Hi praised the hardware, which is good.
What really bothered me was the comments that the people wrote.
It's disgusting.
It looks like now a days almost nobody buys a phone to suits his needs or what he prefers but just to show of or out or Fanboyism !!!!
As soon as one make a bad comment about the phone and is not other ones "brand" or "choice" than he's: "retarded", "f...", ............... !!!!!
For the new phone buyers.
Go to the shop and compare the phones there. Make a decision. If you cant decide doe to the technical side come and ask. Bare in mind that the answers that you get can be different. If you choose S III and you ask in this forum you'll be disappointed of your choice . The other way around too ( One X on the S III forum). As for how it feel, design and all the rest, decide your self. It's our phone.
I myself, don't have One X or Galaxy S III but I've played with both and they are not my choice
I have One S
Sorry my bad English.
Goku can I just ask what specific problems you had with your HOX? I seem to have a few but if I send it back to HTC I'm worried they'll try and blah me off. I have over heating battery, all the time, even worse when on charge, dead pixel, yellow tinge when battery is hot, lol which is all the time, battery life is shocking, I'm on the latest update and tbh its worse than when I got it, and I get the rainbow effect when I touch the sides of the screen (i don't know of this is what people are calling rippling?) Reckon they'll swap it for a brand new one?
Samsung did make a mistake by not releasing a smaller screened performance phone alongside the S3 however the S3 is on another level to the HOX.
That is all

These are all speculations on something that even Google hasn’t announced yet. I say BS!
Back in 2011 a group of companies which included HTC agreed to support their phones upto 18 months from release. HTC One X was released in 2012 May so I hardly think HTC will stop supporting their flagship and first One Series phone in just 12 months. That will harm their reputation a lot. Besides, One X+ which has a very similar hardware configuration and was released just last Nov, IMO that will definitely get Android 5.0 so I don’t any reason for HTC to leave One X behind.

Taken from an article by andronica, who were present at the 2011 Google I/O, regarding the android alliance which HTC were part of. And there are many like this:-
That does not translate to phones always getting these updates, and logistics problems alluded to by Google VP Andy Rubin in the post-keynote say as much.
For instance, the members of the update partnership could say that a new device should still be able to receive Android OS updates within the first 18 months of release; however, companies would not be obligated to stick to that guideline, and that does not mean that phones would access every new release. The group could suggest that a phone capable of running the latest software should reasonably have it within two months of the code becoming accessible; however, testing problems or developmental sluggishness could stand in the way of that happening.
Also if you Google "android 18 months updates" you will find a number of articles reporting the demise of the alliance last year.
The one x by the way was released in April 2012, in the UK at least. I got mine on 6 April, just checked the paperwork. So its "best before date" is the beginning of October this year

They keep wondering why their business is floundering even though they put out nicely spec'd hardware. Customers remember it when they get screwed.
The life of the One X: Unfinished software -> Poor QC -> Terrible customer service when dealing with repair centers -> Not honoring warranty on unlocked devices -> No updates past Jelly Bean
The ONE I was waiting for? Don't make me laugh! The ownership experience has been mediocre at best.
Nothing but nexus devices for me or maybe Sony in a year or so since they seem to start to get it.
So HTC...here's a nice one fingered salute to you!

But it would't hurt to add a question mark to thread title as the critics are right with the fact that we are talking about pure speculation here.

It could be right, since Football is the source, but we will have to wait and see because 5.0 isn't even out yet.
I don't think that the barriers here would be because of the hardware cause we still have superior hardware as nexus devices and most of the devices that out now and all now that it will be updated... We have one of the most ancient quad core devices in the market... It will be the policy of HTC to sell the new devices I'd you want the key lime pie by new flagship or newer devices... Also bot to mention that our great developers will port it for us

Odds of Gnex seeing unofficial L Release

Let's get this out of the way first, nobody here is stupid, we know the L Release is never going to come to the Galaxy Nexus officially. So let's talk about the community. I just have one basic question for our talented devs, what are the odds that a port of L will be able to come to the Gnex and if so, what kind of time frame are we looking at here?
Does the Cyanogenmod team do developers previews like this one? We might see it from them.
I'm sorry, but this post is exactly what I expected to see today.
so lets get it out of the way.
SURE
we COULD see some 5.0 aosp love(via custom development)
MAYBE.
time frame?
when.source drops, give it a few months at most I'd say
source isn't even CLOSE to ready yet though.
SOOO
let's ALSO look at the past.
which nexus devices, after Google officially dropped support, are STILL ABLE AND ARE running LATEST android version?
ALL of them right?
stability and such isn't a factor for this question, it's IF IT CAN/DOES run newest aosp in SOME FORM.
so I'd say YES gnex WILL see 5.0 in SOME usable form. but asking for ANY "time frame"at THIS POINT since SOURCE ISN'T AVAILABLE YET is kinda pointless.
maybe though, just maybe, there are ALREADY some people at work on getting those "preview" things ported. no matter WHAT, patience and not asking for timeframe/eta is key here
I don't normally do +1 style posts, but I am also greatly interested in knowing this as well.
I imagine it is largely going to depend on how much of the underlying kernel and driver interaction changes. I remember on my prior phone, a Droid X which has been and is still locked down, it was generally impossible to get past ICS because of the major underlying changes in JB and not being able to get those on the DX. Granted the Nexus doesn't have this limitation but drivers aren't likely to be further updated and if the kernel goes too far forward it is unlikely to see compatible driver versions for GNex hardware.
EDIT: I should probably say modules instead of drivers. I'm primarily a Windows person PC-side.
Put it this way my 4 year old HTC Desire can run Kitkat then i would be amazed if we didn't end up with some pretty good builds of "L".

Thanks for replying! I figured since I looked pretty thoroughly and didn't see a thread for it and thought that having at least one place for Gnex owners to talk about the L release for us wouldn't be a bad thing. I in no way meant to be one of those people who constantly bugs the devs about ETA's, I just meant what were could be expecting in the general sense. Thanks for the reassurance about us getting it, I've just been burned before about support with previous devices when they got past official support. But those weren't Nexii so I didn't know what to expect.

yea sorry about my tone in that reply mostly too
I'm usually not the one to fly off ranting towards other users actions, at least not on xda(i do #AshRants elsewhere lol)
your question was a valid one, and I know where you coming from when it comes to nom nexus devices and their lack of support, I had a droid x2 that was ORIGINALLY SCHEDULED BY MOTOROLA to have ICS update. which for some reason they just didn't follow through on. Their REASON they said was that "android 4.0+ would not improve functionality of this device"...aka "we don't feel like fixing all the bugs we gave you already with shotty gingerbread releases, and we aren't going to allow you to unlock the device or give you usable kernel source so screw off",...back when moto didn't gaf about the dev communities. they have made huge strides towards mending that relationship. just couldn't believe they had the gall to say 4.0 wouldn't improve the first dual core android device running a tegra2 chipset. bah. ramblings now again from ash.
but yea reason I kinda went off in that reply was mostly cuz I hoped all the other people who were already drooling at the chance to post the exact same things would slow down and think instead first it wasnt intended as a personal attack towards you or to start any flamewar on the subject. and judging by your reply you didn't take offense to it anyways, so  :good: we all on the same page anyways.
personally, I haven't seen much of the IO stuff about L, I saw mostly design changes, and would like to know more details about it's new features so I'll be digging around YouTube today for recaps and such.
but I'm almost certain that if we don't get some kinda official rom like CM, OMNI, SHINY, PA, etc... building L based.roms for us, then some of our awesomely talented devs will at LEAST get us able to look like we have it, along with SOME if not z MOST functionality of L.

I also think you guys should be patient. Your life won't be (that limited if there won't be a port of the coming up Android L to our Galaxy Nexus. Just relax.
As some have already pointed out, we're unlikely to see Android 5 "officially" ported to our GNex, for pretty much the same reason that we don't have an official 4.4 release for our phone. From ArsTechnica:
"Our talk with Burke shed some light on some more obscure topics too, including the lack of an Android 4.4 update for the Galaxy Nexus. Google's official line was that the company only supports hardware for 18 months after release, which it still mentions in its official Nexus update support document. As was speculated at the time, though, the decision was tied to Texas Instruments' exit from the consumer SoC market (TI's OMAP chip powered the Galaxy Nexus as well as other prominent Android-based hardware like the first Kindle Fires).
"It was a really extraordinary event," he said. "You had a silicon company exit the market, there was nobody left in the building to talk to."

TI stopped development for the GNex SoC at Android 4.1. Google and others worked hard to support it for 4.2 and 4.3, but the official TI software was broken by 4.4. The reason that we even have 4.4 custom ROMs is because some kind-hearted person, perhaps a TI insider, released beta or engineering sample software for the SoC. But as we've found, it's not the most stable
have a great weekend,
john
You could all complain about TI stopping development and blaming them. The Google Glass uses a not to different TI SOC compared to the GNex has a 3.4 kernel and runs 4.4.2
Now please understand that Google simply ditched us for reasons other than TI stopped developing SOC bla bla bla.

I don't get your logic. And its not like 4.3 is flawless. HD video playback on this device (GNex) lags.
+ if Google themselves show a bad example to OEMs on how long to update devices, expect OEMs to not update devices older than a year. And this makes the whole "android doesn't get timely updates" into a new issue where "android doesn't get updates after a year+ at best".

Honest perhaps. It's pretty simple really. The new OS (4.4) has a new kernel. The new kernel requires new drivers. Neither TI (OMAP SoC) nor ImgTec (PowerVR GPU) will supply those drivers.
Yes, an engineer at TI "released" a blob last fall. But it was not release-quality, it was beta-quality. Not everything is a conspiracy; we've just reached the end of the official support road.
On the other hand if one is inclined to run on the bleeding edge and stability is not their primary concern, there are any number of KitKat custom ROMs in which one can indulge.
have a great evening,
john

On the other hand if one is inclined to run on the bleeding edge and stability is not their primary concern, there are any number of KitKat custom ROMs in which one can indulge.
have a great evening,
