Need to flash RUU on Desire, running MIUI - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi friendly XDA peeps
I need some urgent n00b help. I've had an HTC Desire/Bravo for about 2 years now. Waaaaaaay back I managed to S-Off and root the thing, get the Revolutionary fastboot on and load MIUI. I want to reset the thing back to "stock". I downloaded the 2.3 RUU for flashing, but I'm running into the following problems:
I'm running Windows 8, so getting drivers is nigh on impossible
Connecting the phone via USB to the PC picks it up fine under device manager
Connecting the phone via USB under FASTBOOT results in the device not being recognized
ADB picks the device up fine when it's started up
Executing the RUU works fine until it gets to fastboot, where Windows doesn't recognize the device again and just hangs there
So I'm pretty desperate at this stage... It seems the device is USB bricked. I'd REALLY like to factory reset this thing with the RUU, but I'm out of ideas as to what to do now.
Any help would be greatly appreciated...
EDIT: Crappers, saw it's in the wrong section. Should be under Troubleshooting. Please move this thread...

Why dont u just put a stock sense rom on it? Then he or she can have The perks if he or she wants them
.. Maybe slam a leedroid on there..

Problem is, that the phone is USB bricked and I cant find usable fastboot drivers for Windows 8 to run the fastboot command to unbrick it... Even flashing a RUU just hangs in fastboot, because Windows doesn't recognize the device when it's in fastboot mode.

Theres a thread in desire general i think and its by K3lcior and he shows how to get drivers installed on windows 8. Find a post by him then go to his profile and look at threads strated by him n u will find it.
Also, if ur still s-off try flashing 4ext recovery as PB99IMG (in my sig) and use the unbrick option. But i think its because of windows 8, not usb brick.

Ok, I managed to find a Windows 7 PC at work today and loaded the necessary drivers. Performed the fastboot fix and flashed the RUU. Thanks for the patience and info!

If you are still s-off you can flash 4ext recovery through fastboot , run usb unbrick function if you are even usb bricked , and then
flash PB99IMG.zip version of 2.3.3 RUU

What is it today with people posting what i already posted? Jeez read before posting + he got it sorted.

[Q] Root via fastboot?

Are there ways to root using fastboot? Have usb brick but working fastboot, and guide using android emulatro doesnt work. Have latest RUU with 0.93 hboot
Have you tried running an RUU from HTC? They completely restore your phone to how it was, and your device only needs to be turned on on the bootloader screen for it to work. (power up with volume down pressed)
Note that this wil completely wipe the phone's internal memory. (though not the sd card)
You can find the RUUs here. If you have an unbranded device (meaning it wasn't customized by the carrier), this is probably the one you're looking for.
Remember: if the device powers on, it isn't bricked!
That post of RUUs is VERY old, here's the site which has them all...

It was rooted originally with oxygen. When brick, I used downgrade tool, pimg.img zip from sdcard in hope for it to fix itself. Installed upgrades from htc to froyo. No luck
but if possible to push ruu using fastboot I will try it. Strange thing, it will only charge if rebooting via fastboot, and its then detected as in need of qualcomm drivers.. no luck finding working drivers to that.. Haven't found similar case in any forums. ideas?

For drivers you should install htc sync.
I know, but it doesn't take.. Thanks for hint though
Update. When I tried to run RUU in windows I only get 170 connection error, also in fastboot mode. Found it as PB99IMG file and ran it through SDcard, but it didnt fix usb problem.. Is there a difference between those two methods when i comes to degree of restoring? Dont think so, anyway..
I'm not entirely sure, but you can try this: when the device's powered on and connected in bootloader mode, go into the Device Manager, and find your phone in the list. Right click and choose the option to install a new driver (I don't know the exact function name in English, my system's locale is Dutch). Then, go to the screen where you can select a driver. Select HTC in the vendor list and install the driver. That should fix your 170 error.
If that doesn't work, try this, and optionally the above again.
http://android.modaco.com/content/h...com/309939/usb-brick-rickrolled-b0rked-fixed/ download zip from here and flash from recovery after renaming it update.zip

Big thanks, but I´ve sent it in for repair. Hope to get in on garantee, but if not, I will just get it returned and try it out..
You need root for that though which he (and me) probably has not.
No, you don't. You can flash update.zip through the stock recovery.
Do you have access to that?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I've never had to do a usb-brick fix, but from what I understand, you should have root to flash that particular "update.zip", because otherwise you'll end up with a sig ver error or some sort of that.
As said in the first step "1. Follow this r5 rooting guide to do Step 1 of the rooting. That will give you a basic ROM to work with, with root capability."
The reason I think you need to flash it as an "update.zip" file is because the r5 method in itself does not flash a custom recovery (from which you can flash files without regard to the name).

[Q] Desire fails to enter recovery

Hi, sorry in advance if I missed solution somewhere but I have tried searching for answers. Either nothing works or problem is slightly different to other reports.
My problem is that following upgrade to CM7 RC, I believe the wrong Google Apps was installed. In a nutshell, now my phone wont boot into Android. I tried booting into recovery, I get to the first screen, and select recovery, phone vibrates and then I get the HTC logo come up and at that point phone freezes with no response until I remove battery.
I have followed various guides re unbricking but to no avail. Issue seems to be that ADB cant identify my phone or no drivers are present to allow me to unbrick. I am running Windows 7 64bit and understand this could be an issue. Please point me to the latest guide in unbricking as there is heaps out there but some very old.
Thanks P
You could try an ruu then root again. Yes it is a pain but might be a faster fix than actually finding a thread. If you can't then look through the Android Development thread. There are a few guides in there somewhere and also look in the Desire Index thread as well

[Q] black HTC screen

mmm how can do
S-OFF your Desire using Revolutionary.

Conquered the same problem
Hello there,
I ran into the same problem yesterday. My desire was double bricked haha. At first I had my Desire to the level that I could only get into the Fastbootmode, the Bootloader and the Recovery by using faulty downgrade software. Then I got the great idea to use some RUU's and I managed to brick the phone to the level you're at right now. I managed to solve this problem by using the official 2.3 upgrade RUU from HTC (you can download this at the HTCdev website). Still want to jump in the custom rom pool? Use the Revolutionary root&S-OFF tool.
Hope I helped
i try this but he show me waiting for device"it did n detect my device in this situation"
also the alpharev 1.8 he didnt reconised my device

That's no reason for creating two threads. If anybody can help you and sees your thread, he will answer you, no matter you created one or two threads. Furthermore, answers might be posted double or even more and you can be confused by that and do something wrong, which in the worst case bricks your phone.

[HELP] Bricked HTC one X - tried everything.

Hi there XDA,
I have searched and tried many different ways to help me,
but none have worked or are lacking in information for me to follow methods.
so i have turned to your general help!
i do not have any knowledge on how my phones bootloader was unlocked or any fastboot things at all, if you could explain to me step by step methods of using the fastboot option via connecting it to my computer to get it to work including files i need that would help.
well okay these are my problems.
~ I tried flashing a jdroid rom, with aroma installer.
it installed the rom but after i installed it it was looping the 'HTC' logo at startup.
what happens is i turn it on, it says "htc quietly brilliant" hangs for a few seconds, screen goes black then phone vibrates and it repeats.
i have a CWM flashed but whenever i boot into recovery it the cwm flashes on the screen for one tenth of a second and then it reboots and i get a loop of booting screen.
If anyone could please help that would be greatly appreciated! i have only had this phone for one week! and it is vital i get it fixed as i have alot of information in the SD card vital to my business
First, download the RUU for your phone (you should have it already as you got it before unlocking the bootloader, right?). If you didn't, then this is the first rookie mistake you've made
Second, relock the bootloader. This involves using fastboot which, again, you should how to use before doing anything that can potentially lead to issues. If you don't know how to use fastboot then check the threads in the Dev forum or Google it
Third, make sure the phone is connected in fastboot and run the RUU
This will get you back to stock and then you can start again (once you've read up on everything properly)
I tryed to install RUU yesterday with relocked bootloader to solve sense issue but did not get it work.
Tryed with 1.25, 1,28 and 1,29 but got error 120 and 170 (no USB connection and low battery even battery was 95%).
Any idea why?
Then I removed CID line in OTA and installed it by fastboot and sense issue was gone
Good news is you're not bricked, do you have adb installed on your pc?

If your friend unlocked and rooted your phone, he must have had the necessary tools on his pc.
Before trying other things, get your friend to run fastboot erase cache (or if you have the necessary tools run it yourself with your device booted in fastboot of course (volume down and power pressed))

hmm i have done some extra researching and had more help but my phone is in fastboot and is connected via cable to pc but the CMD always comes up with "waiting for device"
Have u got HTC sync installed
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
Once you have htc sync installed or just thethe drivers boot into hboot. Click on fastboot plug in device. It should show fastboot-usb.
If you bootloader shows unlocked open cmd and cd to the platform-tools folder in the sdk and type: fastboot oem lock.
This will relock the bootloader and reboot the phone. Boot back to fastboot the run the ruu for your cid and all will be back to normal.

It just says waiting for device
You got the drivers installed?
which ones?
The HTC drivers. Download and install HTC sync. That will install the drivers. Then disable it so it does not interrupt the s-off process. Follow this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2032467
But use rev.alpharev.nl website instead of revolutionary.io.
It seems I only get halfway and it sometimes don't register the phone.. in device manager i get a code:10 on the phone.
I'v tried many things to fix this but nothing seems too work
Either way I thank you for your help so far as it seem everything is done right and should work
my computer just doesn't want to co-op.
Edit: the app starts and everything seems well, but then it boots to fastboot and get stuck waiting for fastboot
FYI: did this on a computer with windows 10 and then tried it on one with 7 or XP I can't remember witch one because i have both on the same computer. but it worked, so the problem seems to be that windows 10 can't install or handle the old drivers properly.
