No Signal

So I installed a custom rom and now im not getting any signal. i tried going back to a different rom and tried oher roms and nothing fixes it, ANy ideas?

First, ask a mod to move this to Q&A, as this has nothing to do with development. Next, check your APNs.

This is going to get moved .For your benefit always read and search most questions have already been answered. And pay closer attention to where you are posting ask a question in the q&a right? As far as your question good advice above and check your modem as well. Are you using roms for your device? Or are you in wrong section there as well?

Sounds like he flashed an international rom

Just do an Odin flash will fix it I did same thing

You probably killed your EFS. Good luck getting AT&T to take it back.

If all else fails Odin stock tar.
Did you flash the at&t files with it? Cleanrom has you flash certain files with it based on carrier etc...
Be careful man. I doubt your borked your phone. But it is not impossible.
If you did. Return to stock with Odin and stock tar. Then use triangle away to fix it. Unroot. Reboot. If 0 flash counter in download mode. And ROM says unmodified or whatever. Take it in and say it won't get signal.

[Q] Reset to stock rom

Just got into the rooting scene again. I rooted my phone with CWM and LiquidSmooth, but I liked the stock Samsung rom better. Looks like the LiquidSmooth is kind of bugged, the gallery is not as good at the default, camera app isn't really good etc.
I've found the stock rom for 4.1.2 for my I9305, but when I flash it, it just makes an exclamation mark when booting and gets stuck at Samsung logo.
Now the problem is, that It won't connect to Samsung Kies. I want to reset the phone to factory rom, but Samsung won't connect to phone in Download mode.
I know the rules of a forum etc. and I have really been searching, but sometimes you need personal advice, because I really tried a lot of things
Got CWM-based Recovery v6.0.2.8 right now.
I've tried flashing with Odin and I9305XXBLL3_I9305HTDBLL2_I9305XXBLL3_HOME.tar - But doesn't really work.

And at the same time as making this thread, I tried flashing with the rom again, and now it works. Think I forgot to do factory/cache reset.

Ok not sure if this is addressed but I'm using voodoo to protect root but the problem I'm having is every time I try to do that update I'm getting signed failure why? Next is how do I get the update to take?

But to answer the OP's question:
1. The reason the update is failing is because your system is modified. This is most likely because you have a custom recovery. If you really want to install the official OTA, you have to go back to the stock recovery. This is an Odin process, which you can find in qbking77's videos. I wouldn't recommend this method, as it introduces many steps which are messing with recovery.
2. If you have a custom recovery (which, if you're getting that error, means you have), all you have to do is install Freeza's Stock ROM. He keeps it updated on a regular basis and typically has it updated before a majority of the people have gotten the OTA (might take longer for more significant updates, but in my experience this is true). At a minimum, all you have to do is clear cache and dalvik cache and install the ROM (I'd recommend doing a full wipe, but that's just me). When you do this, your system will be identical as if you just took the OTA. All in one step! No need to unroot, to try to "protect root," anything.

In general I (and others on XDA) will only link to the thread that contains the Mod/ROM/etc. This ensures that the content creator get's the credit for their work (through donations and thanks) and so that any relevant discussions happen in the correct thread (bug fixes, mods, etc.).

[Q] I just need verification before I do this

Just got my galaxy s3 today and rooted it. It is currently running Android version 4.0 4 and I noticed there was a system update available. I was wondering if I can update with it being rooted already or would that mess something up completely? I also have MetroPCS and I saw no board for them.

If you have a custom recovery the update will fail. Just put the latest stock custom rom on it and you'll be on the latest and greatest :thumbup:

Like the other poster said, it will fail with a custom recovery. However, if you have the stock recovery still, it will work fine provided that you use OTA Rootkeeper to protect root access. Don't worry about the warning in the app description that the app won't work with Samsung updates over Kies. It doesn't apply since your update will be OTA. Rootkeeper will work just fine.

Kinda new to the whole rooting thing. I did the exact instructions given, so is it safe to just "update" sorry for all the noob questions, I have to learn somehow

They just told you that bit will not work. You are rooted the update will attempt to load and will fail. You have to manually flash all the updates they are available in the threads. Look for them. Unless someone is kind enough to post the links.

Even with a custom recovery, the update can still go through. It's not a 100% chance, but it can happen and has even happened to me while i had CWM installed
Check out my OTA sticky thread (its in general) to see what your options are. If you take it hoping it will fail but instead get updated, you will need to reroot

This is correct, you can still install am ota with a custom recovery... having a custom kernel our modifying system apps is what causes it to fail, not the recovery
SPRINT GS3 FAQ

That may be a very small percentage of possibilities. My wife's S3 was totally stock other than rooted. Nothing else. The OTA failed, at that point I took her to TPR. I've personally had 5 android devices none of which have ever taken ota while rooted. The moment I flash stock via Odin they take the ota instantly.
If he's rooted his best option is Freezas thread. It's so easy to just flash it all in recovery, and it's already rooted just saying. There's no difference in rom, firmware or anything it's the update via flashable.

Correct it will say failed and you just reboot and nothing updates. The you go to Freezas thread download the rom and the baseband and update it yourself.

Exactly, save yourself the trouble, just go to freeza's thread and download your preferred ROM (odex or deodex) then flash via your custom recovery. It's simpler and faster than trying and failing w/OTA...

Frieza's thing is for a sprint phone and I have MetroPCS. I'm not wanting you guys/girls to hold my hand through this or anything but like I said I'm learning all of this and I believe to learn the right way is learning through other people's experiences

Well I got it updated to 4.2.1 it says my device has been modified and software updates are not available. Is there currently a root for the metro 4.2.1 s3?

Ok perfect you root it the same exact way as 4.1.1. That's the only thing across all platforms the S3 roots the same.

[Q] Free Unlock 4.1.2 Flashing Modem

I have seen many posts on this issue but I still didn't get a clear answer. Since many had the same issue thought this mat deserve a thread. I am a new bee hence the questions.
We know that the free unlock does not work with 4.1.2.
We also know from several threads that flashing older modem solves the problem

I am having some difficulties in updating the modem
I provided modem.bin file in Odin & used Phone button and Auto reboot. Odin fails to upload the modem. Am I doing something wrong?
Can I directly upload modem.bin or do I need to convert it into something else (tar)?
Am I getting the correct modem (baseband) files?
What is the best way to flash or install the modem/baseband without rooting the device. I don't have an option of rooting as I need to connect my phone through Good (does not work on a rooted device)
Any help will be appreciated.

You need to flash the entire 4.1.1 ROM. Not just the modem. Once you unlock by using the instructions in one of the existing threads you can simply hit the update button and go back to 4.1.2

Yes I have done it. The reason people don't see all of the options is besauce they aren't flashing the full stock 4.1.1 ROM. I get mine from www.sammobile.com

Well that's the easiest way to flash anything on the phone!! Is using TWRP recovery.
You can try this then, when your done you can UN root it thru the superuser app.
