I have seen many posts on this issue but I still didn't get a clear answer. Since many had the same issue thought this mat deserve a thread. I am a new bee hence the questions.
We know that the free unlock does not work with 4.1.2.
We also know from several threads that flashing older modem solves the problem
atti317ucalj2modemfixed from previous threads (several thanks to other users who provided this information)
I am having some difficulties in updating the modem
I provided modem.bin file in Odin & used Phone button and Auto reboot. Odin fails to upload the modem. Am I doing something wrong?
Can I directly upload modem.bin or do I need to convert it into something else (tar)?
Am I getting the correct modem (baseband) files?
What is the best way to flash or install the modem/baseband without rooting the device. I don't have an option of rooting as I need to connect my phone through Good (does not work on a rooted device)
Any help will be appreciated.
You need to flash the entire 4.1.1 ROM. Not just the modem. Once you unlock by using the instructions in one of the existing threads you can simply hit the update button and go back to 4.1.2

Based on what I have read from the forums, people still can't access certain options in the modem after flashing the entire rom. Have you tired it? Which rom have did you use? Samsung-Updates.com-SGH-I317_ATT_1_20121005095854_bpaaavv07o.zip from hot files?

Yes I have done it. The reason people don't see all of the options is besauce they aren't flashing the full stock 4.1.1 ROM. I get mine from www.sammobile.com

Well that's the easiest way to flash anything on the phone!! Is using TWRP recovery.
You can try this then, when your done you can UN root it thru the superuser app.

So I installed a custom rom and now im not getting any signal. i tried going back to a different rom and tried oher roms and nothing fixes it, ANy ideas?
First, ask a mod to move this to Q&A, as this has nothing to do with development. Next, check your APNs.

You probably killed your EFS. Good luck getting AT&T to take it back.
If all else fails Odin stock tar.
Did you flash the at&t files with it? Cleanrom has you flash certain files with it based on carrier etc...
Be careful man. I doubt your borked your phone. But it is not impossible.
If you did. Return to stock with Odin and stock tar. Then use triangle away to fix it. Unroot. Reboot. If 0 flash counter in download mode. And ROM says unmodified or whatever. Take it in and say it won't get signal.

Hi everybody. I have a question. so I want to install LORJAY589's update rom. and as he has been very adamant about following his instructions down to the letter. I am having a problem. he said he installed CWM through the galaxy note 2 toolkit. so that's what I wanted to do. but when I went to the thread he mentioned in note 2 original development section. i found that the link is no longer up. I saw other posters on his thread mention work around's to this problem. but again further back in his post. he said do not use other peoples work around's. he said to follow his and only his instructions to get it to work. so my question is does anyone know where I can find the galaxy note 2 toolkit he used. untill I find it I will be unable to install his update rom. thanks in advance for any help on this problem
Google it. It is avaliable on another site besides xda.

No flash it in recovery.... You only need to flash the recovery and the wifi fix thru Odin.. Just make sure you are in download mode (volume down, home button, and power)

I just wanted to say that I was curious if I could simply flash the stock deodexed MK4 4.3 ROM from my existing rooted MC2 TW ROM with TWRP recovery and so I took a chance. I had zero issues. I didn't un root etc. as was instructed . What are the reasons for returning to stock un rooted before flashing MK4? I'm currently on rooted MK4 with no issues doing it the way I mentioned. Yes I'm hard headed lol
I have a T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S3 (SGH-T999) and I made the mistake of allowing an upgrade??? to android 4.3 which has been very unstable for me. T-Mobile, Samsung, and Google all say that there are no updates to 4.3 and I can’t downgrade, so basically I’m out of luck.
Can I downgrade 4.3 to 4.1.2 without bricking my phone and hopefully without voiding my warranty? If so, please give me some instructions. I downloaded Odin 3.07 and firmware: root66_TMO_T999UVDMD5.7z. Thanks a million.
I don't think it's possible to downgrade anymore due to Knox. There was a thread talking about it
Maybe you should check it out.

if you flash the root66 of the md5 firmware via odin after you have already upgraded to 4.3 you will HARD BRICK your phone. Taking the 4.3 ota updates your bootloader and flashing anything other than 4.3 in odin will wreck your life.
You need to download the root66mjc firmware here:
http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23212708291682181
And flash it in odin. Then from there install a custom recovery and download a rom of your choosing and the compatible modem. I recommend you download the md5 modem. Then you're gonna wanna boot into recovery and flash the rom and the modem only (kernels are ok of course) JUST NO BOOTLOADERS. I don't even know if you can do that in recovery but trying to mess with the new BL will brick your face I mean phone.
full steps?
so does anyone have any full list of steps and links on where to get the modems and all to downgrade 4.3 with knox down to 4.1.2

I was referring to the 3 persons who responded to the OP's question similar to yours. @jtl_777's response is pointing to the 4.3 Firmware.
Its more implied in this thread than stated matter of factly. This thread is several months old, and I know your question has been asked countless times in many different threads, much more recently than in this one.
I suggest you read the stickies in each section. Just by doing that you will find all firmware and modems and more. You will also find that the answer is no, you cannot downgrade your full firmware from 4.3. And you never will be able to.
If your having problems I suggest flashing the latest 4.3 build via Odin, then factory resetting. Start over clean with minimal restoring of backups (only the essentials).
Every time an update comes out there are people who have problems. The majority are solved by doing what I just said because most bugs are caused by using old data created by old apps on the new build.
Even if you could downgrade, chances are youd run into even more issues and still have to factory reset.

thanks but I read online and some youtube videos showing that people have gone from 4.3 back to 4.1.2, just trying to make the phone the way it was before any updates were done and wondering if anyone knows the proper steps without bricking the phone.
They probably just flashed a rom. It is simply not possible to downgrade the firmware though.

so i found this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48758977&postcount=1412 and i have the same case as Christopher4tw with a stock 4.3 T999UVUEMJC and just want to get back to T999UVDMD5 so its running the 4.1.2 version of android
so do i just download the below file, extract and flash via odin then do a wipe via recovery? If not can you please explain how to go about this so i can have 4.1.2 running on the phone

great thanks so much for your help, can I flash the recovery via odin mobile app or is it safer to do it via pc?
Safer via PC.
It is possible via Mobile Odin. But that's one of the partitions I don't want to mess with when Phone is Booted/
If you know how to use Mobile Odin then it should be fine. I agree that its better to use pc odin if youre not familiar with Mobile Odin. However, it actually doesnt flash the recovery while booted. It flashes the flash kernel which is MO's temp recovery. It then boots to this and flashes. (So, perseus is right in that regard. But I personally love Mobile Odin and find it extremely useful and consider it safe unless you are brand new to all of this).
In fact Mobile Odin is another way you can flash 4.1.2. Itll flash the firmware, but only the system, kernel, recovery and modem. (I didnt bring this up previously because I didnt want to confuse, or go too far too fast).
If youre thinking about flashing recovery via MO, though, you can also instead just flash the rom you found. No need to flash the recovery unless you just want to. Put the rom in the update.zip slot and itll flash just fine.
If any of this is confusing, just stick with the original plan for now. The rest will come easy if you dont rush things.
One more thing, while you can usually update stock without wiping, you may find you have to factory reset after downgrading as the old system was not built for using data created on a new version.

thanks for all the help.. had to do the wipe since it kept showing the samsung logo but after that it booted just fine.

I have tried so many times to downgrade to 4.1.2 using odin but I havent be able to. I always get an error message
I posted what I'm about to post in the Q&A section already but I have yet to have a reply. I figured, why not try it here. Anyways, here goes.
Hello XDA community, my brother has been having wi-fi and bluetooth issues on his T-MO Note II ever since applying the 4.3 OTA. When I try to enable Wi-fi, it will slide to the on position greyed out, stay there a second, and automatically turn itself off. Before I go on, the first thing I did was use CF-auto root and flash both agni pure stock and devil kernel and neither of them have worked. In addition, I have used dr.ketans patch as well as flashing some AOSP based ROMs such as AOKP and SlimKat and neither of them have yielded any results. I have tried almost everything I can find via XDA and I am truly stumped.
Do you guys have any solutions to the wifi issues? Any help would be greatly appreciated! :good:

Thanks! I was just suggested the same thing by another user over at the thread I posted up on the Q&A section. I will let you know how it goes tomorrow.
Hi guys.
I'm trying to down grade my SGH-I317 rom from 4.3 to 4.1 in order to unlock it. I've done the system wipe and cleared cache ,but when I attempt to flash the 4.1 rom in recovery it gives the error message "e signature verification failed".
Does this indicate that I need to flash a different rom like Cynogen or Clockwork BEFORE trying to flash 4.1? Or is there something else I've skipped over that could cause the failure? Or is it the file itself that's not compatible?
4.3 rom is stock JB
I'm accessing everything from external SD card not via USB.
Which guide are you following? Typically the revert to 4,1.x is done with an Odin flash rather than recovery.
If you are on the 4.3 bootloader or higher you use UCALJ2. Otherwise you can use UCAMA4 or UCALJ2.

Okay, I'm heading over to those sections to research. I've read several guides on the forum but kept getting a little confused on which flash method to use so I don't end up bricking my device. Thank you for your reply.
One more question , if I'm simply flashing Odin I wouldn't boot in recovery to do so? I think I've confused myself.

The device has (2)....3 button combinations that are used to access either the recovery....or download mode...
Recovery is used for flashing the most common .zip format...like a CM rom...
Download mode..(Odin mode)...is used to push a complete package to the device...that generally includes a radio image, recovery, and in some cases the bootloader...and these files are generally a .tar or .img. designated file...
Using volume up, power, and home buttons at the same time will boot you into recovery...
Using volume down, power, and home buttons at the same time will put the device into download mode...
The difference between the two modes is very important when flashing files...so read carefully before selecting modes or files to flash...g

I'm a little aggravated I've been trying to flash the 4.1.1 rom but mobile Odin is not recognizing the file as a zip file. I'm not sure what the problem actually is ???
Try the Windows (PC) version of Odin. Also make sure you have unzipped and are working with the ---.tar.md5 file, not the zip file.

Follow this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2618447 .
I followed sections all sections 1 threw 3. At section 2 the link for the I317UCUBMK6-TZ-PARAM.zip did not work. I used this link instead.
http://www56.zippyshare.com/v/16559598/file.html
At section 3 don't be alarmed when it says it's downloading the update but it doesn't show percentages. It is downloading. In fact for me it automatically downloaded the 4.4.2 update instead of 4.3. It skipped it and went straight to kitkat. It took some time but I have Official KItkat 4.4.2.
Hit Thanks
