Hello,
I have a HTC One X that have software issues like malfunctioning of the screen and even when we reset the phone, it doesn't work as it should.
Now I downloaded 2 RUU's for the HTC One X to restore stock OS, but it doesn't work because it says that I have a newer bootloader version than I want to install(error 140).
Now I searched on the internet and also on XDA, the only option that I found was something to try from a German forum, that was also a RUU but didn't change the situation and downgrading the bootloader.
Now I don't want to loose the warranty and know to relock the bootloader and also want to keep everything original, because it is for someone else that doesn't want to have something that's not original of HTC.
What could I do to restore the complete OS on the HTC One X without losing warranty ? Sending to HTC won't be a solution for now, because we need to fix it by ourself and if it isn't possible, then we will send it as last option to HTC.

Thank you very much, but how am I going to restore the Nandroid backup without changing the recovery? Or am I just changing the recovery and after that flash stock recovery back ? And how about the MD5 sum that needs to match(Clockwordmod)?
Please explain me these things then It will be much easier to understand for me.

Yes, you will need CWM recovery for it. Try this one : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2240646
1. Extract boot.img from the nandroid zip and put all other files in /clockworkmod/backup/todaysdate/
2. flash the boot.img via fastboot and then erase cache
3. Go to recovery and use this script to wipe /system /data /cache and dalvic : http://d-h.st/kG0
4. Restore nandroid backup by going to Backup and Restore.
5. Reboot!

I need to install a stock RUU as well...
The above mentioned command gave me the following: version-main: 3.14.401.31
Not sure where to get a full RUU
CID: HTC__016
hboot : 1.39
Would this one (RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_JB_45_S_HTC_Europe_3.14.401.31_R_Radio_5.1204.162.29_release_302015_signed.exe) work?

Guys, need some info...
So I locked the device and flashed the RUU successfully... Afterwards I realised that I did not flash the stock recovery...
Do I unlock again to flash it or does the RUU restore the stock recovery as well?

Hi there,
I flashed ARHD 15 just now but unfortunately my phone is stuck on Airplane Mode.
I searched for a solution but none of them fixed it.
Do you have a way to fix it?
EDIT: Flashed boot.img again and that solved the problem.

i have tried these steps i flashed the boot.img from my custom rom (OrDroid), i went from the bootloader to the recovery, wiped dalvik and cache, rebooted system, and the only difference is that this time i saw this screen with all of my apps optimizing, the device opens, i go to settings, i have the same exact picture, Airplane mode turning off, wifi has "error" written underneath, mobile network also doesnt work neither does bluetooth! i dont know if this has to do with anything, but this was my first attempt at installing jelly bean, which means i cant go back to stock (i suppose), so im stuck without the ability to call people or simply do anything other than play teeter on this phone! so is there a solution for this?

but this thread does not contain my CID (HTC__J15) does that mean i am stuck with no phone until someone decides to make a firmware for my CID ?
______________________________________________________________________________________________________
The thread I posted has instructions in the first post. You'll want to make a backup because ou have to lock the device, unlocking it again will wipe the phone.
HTC__J15 was removed from the '401 packages, but I think there is a newer one 1.31 somewhere, have you searched the thread for your CID? Lots of people have discussed it.

yeah and all i could find that was useful was this link http://d-h.st/users/ClydeB1/?fld_id=8110#files but you are saying the j15 was removed from the 401 packages, also the only instruction i could find in the first post was this and it doesnt mention locking the device:
"Flash firmware.zip using following terminal commands:
Please rename first downloaded .zip package to firmware.zip
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip"
______________________________________________________
Update: ok i flashed it through fastboot, and now my hboot has been upgraded to 1.31, after that i unlocked it, flashed boot.img, and a custom recovery, then i went to recovery, and reinstalled the custom rom.zip , sadly however problem was not resolved
Yeah, sorry, 1.31 appears to be the latest for your CID.
I'm sure you have to relock the phone to install it. Try it (don't forget backup!), worst case it will fail.

Hi All,
Here's some questions for you...
I've got an O2-branded HOX in the UK. I was getting ticked off with the way O2 were dragging their heels with the JB update in the UK, so I unlocked my bootloader through the normal methods and took a nandroid backup with CWM. At the time my HBoot was 1.12.
Then I realised O2 had released the JB update, so relocked my HOX and installed the update. At this point my HBoot was updated to 1.36.
Then I rooted the HOX again. At this point I did not take a nandroid backup. I am a doofus, I realise.
My question is, can I revert to the original ICS 1.12 backup?
I think, from reading around, the answer is 'no'. Can someone confirm?
If this is the case, does anyone have an O2 JB nandroid backup I can use?
Edited to add: my version-main is 3.14.206.27, my bootloader is (bootloader) DEBUG: cid: O2_001

Thanks TT - I was concerned by Clyde's note at the top of his tutorial:
NOTE: These instructions require that you have one of the ICS hboot versions in order to work (1.12.0000 or lower). If you have one of the new JB hboots 1.28, 1.31 or 1.33 there is currently no way to return to stock until a JB ruu is released for your device.
So I can return to ICS stock from JB?
Re: [Q] Restore from Custom JB ROM (HBoot 1.36) to Stock Backup (HBoot 1.12)?
Yes its def possible ! TT is right on the spot
Do a full wipe, flash the boot.img from the nandroid and restore the backup then you flash back the stock recovery otherwise you can't update !
Check for updates manually and install it, the software will be updated to JB 3.14

That note was relevant some months ago when ppl were flashing unreleased JB to their phones and then wanted back to stock. It was impossible at the time. Nowadays you can ignore it.
Excellent, thank you for your reassurances.
Should the recovery be a 3.14 recovery image, based on my 'version-main'?
That is my current ROM - JB, but as I'm going back to ICS, am not sure...
Thanks again...!

Gentlemen, I am truly grateful for your assistance and encouragement. I am back on ICS and currently (re)downloading JB. It looks like it might be working !!!. I'll make sure and take a more recent nandroid this time, so I don't give myself the heebies again.

That's something to ask in the hox + section. If you install a hox ruu on a hox + your phone will probably be dead !!!
But basically yes, NOT a ruu doe a different device. Just a ruu for a different REGION. like Asian or Europe. But also check the difference between GSM and CDMA units.
Be careful!

Which version no. that you restored ? 2.22.709.4 ? That won't work on your device.
You need to restore the lowest version that may work for you is 3.28.709.6
but the appropriate one is 4.16.709.9 then do OTA to 4.24.709.2

I don't remember there is a version 4.16.709.4 .. what I know is 4.16.709.9 updated from 3.28.709.6 (edited my earlier post) as seen in OTA name :
OTA_M8_UL_L50_SENSE60_MR_hTC_Asia_TW_4.16.709.9-3.28.709.6_release_414076ukhzxcxrrytcp3ky
Why don't you post your fastboot getvar all result minus serial no. & imei no. so we can see what version that you actually need.
I got to go now ... post the details and I will check later in the afternoon or maybe someone else will be able to help you.

That's why I asked for fastboot getvar all to see any issue with your bootloader
Whose backup that you have ? Your own ? Or you got it somewhere ?

No worry about now or before or after...
I need the "fastboot getvar all" so I can make sure which the correct backup to give you.
I have backups for x.xx.709.x for all version except the 2nd update for 5.0.2 as it was pulled back by hTC.

You need 4.24.709.2 to return to stock.
As I mentioned earlier, it seems that hTC pulled back the 2nd update.
But I'm not sure whether the 2nd OTA is available now as I'm on custom ROM.
If you need this 4.24.709.2 TWRP backup, PM me your gmail address and I'll authorize link for you tomorrow
You have same problem as this guy : http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/update-how-to-correctly-t2878876/page3
p.s you can remove your pic of getvar as it contains your serial no. & imei no.

Here is the link for stock recovery image 4.24.709.2 : http://sourceforge.net/projects/htconem8/files/Recovery/4.24.709.2_recovery.img/download
I'll send you link for 4.24.709.2 after I receive your gmail address
No need to relock bootloader and the TWRP backup is pure stock clean ROM, no root no additional files .. just like when you first take it out from box.
You need TWRP 2.8.5.0 or TWRP 2.8.6.0 so make sure you have the right TWRP version.

I'm on the same firmware (completely stock - not rooted)
I could make a nandroid backup for you, but my upload speed is too slow, it would take ages to upload. Unless you only need the stock boot.img or recovery.
There's also an RUU available for your device, but the version is kitkat. I am not sure if you can flash it on an s-on device. But you can give it a try

You can get the right RUU for your device from here
You need to rename it to 0PFHIMG and copy it to your sd-card. then boot into bootloader (volume down + power button) and it should ask you to install the RUU,
RUU will wipe your entire internal storage, and it includes boot, radio, recovery, and etc.
But again, I am not sure if you can flash an RUU if your device is S-ON, (which is a security measure by HTC to prevent certain modifications the device)
Still, it doesn't hurt to give it a try. You have to re-lock your bootloader though.
This is my current setup. S-On but relocked. You mean so?

Okay, you are s-on, but since you are relocked, it may work.
Try moving the ruu to sd card and rename it as I mentioned before. Give it a try and see if it works or not

Once you are rooted, your system partition is modified. The OTA always checks the MD5 sum of the system partition, and if it doesn't match with the stock value, the update will fail.
If you have a nandroid backup of the stock Rom, you can just restore and flash the stock recovery. Otherwise you have to use the RUU.
Just make sure to flash the stock recovery before relocking your boot loader.

I'm glad it all worked out! You don't need root for a nandroid backup, you just need a custom recovery.
Flash the custom recovery from fastboot using the command "fastboot flash recovery xxx.img" (the name of the file)
Then make a nandroid backup.
If you ever want to go back to stock again, just restore the nandroid backup, and then flash the stock recovery.

have you relocked your phone?
I'm s-on, unlocked bootloader
aaa ... I think I understand. must first relocked bootloader, and then flash stock?
upd. so, i relocked bootloader, insert sd card and see same text:
! image update fail !
main version is older!
update fail!
device halted due too large image update fail!
press POWER to reboot
im on lollipop 5.0.2 now
and now I can't log on. only loaded bootloader
so, i unlocked bootloader and returned back into the system. no longer have to advise, today or tomorrow will posting flashable ROM. thanks.
same problem here, did you find a solution?
