I had this problem when I first got this phone, and I've had it on a few warranty exchanges as well. I would just boot into recovery and do a factory reset and that would fix the problem

I've searched and searched and haven't came up with anything so i'm resorting to asking. Was Running 4.0.1 AOKP and have been for a while with no problems. Just decided to flash ParanoidDroid so i ODIN EL26 it passed no problems, after phone rebooted it showed normal samsung boot and yellow triangle then screen goes black and it stops right there. When plugged into my computer my device manager recognizes it. If i try to boot into recovery it wont go but it will boot back into download mode. was it a bad kernal i flashed? Please tell me this isn't some sort of brick. I'll continue troubleshoting but any advice is appreciated.
Why not give a one click a go and see from there since you can get to download mode?
Or use pc odin and see if its just a bad kernel flash?
No blue light so id say your hunch is right.

Solid blue, hard brick. Seen some users talk about a blinking blue and were able to come back. Since you didn't talk about that, I'd assume you may be ok but try the one click.
Also, if you find that there are issues, crawrj has written a back to life thread. But it doesn't sound like you're there just yet.
Let us know after a one click try.. Someone may have additional suggestions.

One click says it was successful. Now it gets stuck at the samsung and yellow triangle screen, HOWEVER i can now boot into CWM. So what is the best/safest option at this point? Install a rom the CWM or maybe re-ODIN? I tried wiping everything from CWM but it didnt do anything. Thanks so much for the help

How long did you let it sit at the boot screen? Have seen it take 10-15 minutes before.
And if it was me, at this point id stay w a one click and not from recovery just yet.
Which one click did you use?

Have been letting it sit about 10 minutes or so now. and i used:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342728
and just chose option C then OPTION F for EL26
Would it be an issue that i was running ICS and now Flashing back to GB? I have just read that when flashing a new rom always ODIN back to EL26 before wiping and installing new rom

I apologize. I was meaning a complete one click earlier.
But it does seem that you've got the kernel issue resolved.
So either you had a bad download of the rom you were trying from the start or a bad flash. I'd download the rom again, if you can transfer to sdcard via computer (if it has a sd adapter) and reflash.
Otherwise, id use this to get the phone in a working state. Then start again.

It can be confusing but when you flashed the rom from el26, you should have been left with the included kernel but it sounds like you had a bad flash.

Got it. i just installed my rom through CWM and everything working. idk if that was my stupid mistake or just my phone bein weird but thanks for the help anyway guys
Edit: wrong thread, I'll be back to answer your question shortly. Tapatalk flaked out on me :banghead:
Edit3: OK you may want to search for sfhubs factory reset from Odin thread and do a wipe through Odin and then use a one-click to restore a rom. Otherwise you can Odin el26+cwm direct boot, do a full wipe or run a format all script and then flash a twiz based rom through recovery, if you want an aosp based rom you'll need to flash a twiz based rom first, then boot up the phone and then Odin el26 again flash the aosp based rom, then factory reset and perform the wipes/format all script, flash the rom again and then gapps, wipe cache and dalvik and boot the phone, since your rom currently isn't full functional you'll need the twiz based rom to restore the system partitiom to be able tto flash a aosp based rom without receiving an error.

I have the odex blue rom. I decided to download the zip file for the Acid Mod. I used ROM manager and hit download rom instead of doing it manually...now it boots up the initial odex blue boot up screen and goes blank. I have tried booting into recovery by pressing the three buttons, but no luck either. Just goes blank. Any suggestions??
Whew! If I just used the search button I would have found out how KIES works...NM!

You could also try using ODIN. Flashing with KIES will wipe your entre phone clean, including all of the files. ODIN will do clean flash, but will preserve your files, such as pics for example.
I just used version 2.9 of Triangle Away to reset the flash counter, and now my phone will not stay in download mode. I can get to the intro screen where it gives the option to enter download mode or reboot, however that screen disappears after about 2 seconds and my phone powers off. I can power up the phone normally with no problems, and it seems to work normally when in use. I can get into recovery mode with no problems as well.
My question is: Is this a problem I can possibly fix, or am I looking at a JTAG repair service?
If I were you (since you said you can boot your rom fine), I would re-root if you have lost it for some reason. Afterwards, download goomanager and use it to reflash the latest twrp. Then go to the link posted below and download the flashable zip which will restore your phone to mb1 without root, stock recovery and flash counter reset. Just flash the zip in twrp like you would any other rom. Make sure to do a full wipe. Hopefully this will work for you.

Go get, or make a download jig. End of problem. Yes they do work on this phone, I use mine all the time. My bad.

I thought this was the Q&A forum?
Transmitted with a portable device using Xparent Blue Tapatalk 2
I did not lose root. I can still flash items using TWRP with no problems. I just cannot access download mode. I'm thinking its a hardware issue of some sort that Triangle Away has caused.
I have looked into using the USB jig, but that doesn't solve the problem (that is more of a work around). I would rather not have to depend on the jig to access download mode, and there is the possibility that the jig will not work as well. But, since the jig isn't expensive, I think that will be my next step in troubleshooting.
I did ask a question, in a very roundabout way But isn't this the Help & Troubleshooting forum as well?
Thanks for the replies!
[SOLVED] Operator error
I was trying to reflash the 4.1.2 firmware through ODIN yesterday but I didnt remember the correct way to get into download mode, so I accidentally kept going into recovery. Annoyed by that, when the phone tried to get into recovery mode again, I just pulled out the battery and then correctly got it into download mode. I flashed the firmware but after that it keeps restarting on the samsung logo and shows the android and tries to load the recovery but after that the screen goes black and it keeps restarting. I dont know whats wrong, maybe the recovery has been damaged. Please help me get the phone back to life. Also, another thing to note is that its not even turning on by the normal way of holding the power button, but I have to press the buttons to grow into recovery in order to turn it on, but before even going into recovery, it keeps restarting.

Can someone provide me links to a firmware version for the SGH-T989 less than 4.1.2? And I want the "Three File Firmware" where there are three separate files instead of a single PDA file that would be used in ODIN.

Ok, I flashed 4.0.4 on it and now atleast its going into recovery mode. However, its stuck on the flashing samsung logo and is not in a usable state. Can someone please help me with this?
