[Q] Lagging when using Revolution 5|16|13 ROM - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi!
I have installed Revolution rom yeaterday. Due to my small post count I cannot post my question in the rom's thread, so I will post it here.
I have noticed some lags. The first one comes when the ringtone is ringing (whether somebody calling me or when alarm clock is.. alarming). The ringing sound sounds not smoothly and normal, but rather.. mm.. stretchy, like there is some kind of CPU intensive task is going on the background.
The same stretchy sound is when I am listening to some mp3 - the audio is not playing smoothly, expecialy when I am oing some stuff in parallel, like scrolling phone's settings.
I haven't noticed any fast battery drain atm, so I doubt there's some kind of CPU-hungry process running.
What could be the problem? I doubt that 4.2 is not very fast on my DHD because 4.1 runs just fine.

Hello there! I got the same problem
I noticed its not the CPU over user, otherwise is the cpu is in sleeping mode.
If you unlock the phone and call it again, the ringtone works just ok.
I guess is a problem around the CPU governator and the minimal cpu speed. So I will try changing governators and the min cpu value.
If you found the solution please post it here Ill do the same.

They are known issues, flash the latest KangBang kernel to fix,
otherwise, for lag within the ROM, use Seeder application, use the V6 Supercharger or overclock

Use the stable kernel. I had lots of random reboots with the performance variant.

Blurry videos on AOKP and franco kernel

I just got my Galaxy Nexus yesterday and flashed AOKP with franco kernel milestone 3. Everything's going pretty good, except for the fact that videos in MLB At Bat and Flixster are extremely blurry!
I know that the resolution on the phone is large and that these videos might be somewhat low quality, but the weird thing is that they're not blurry at all for small periods of time (usually after I hit the back button).
This is especially evident when I play my Gameboid emulator. When I put the emulator in portrait mode, everything is really blurry. However, when I switch to landscape, there is a very small amount of time that the picture will become clear. Another weird thing is that landscape is perfectly fine in the emulator while portrait is blurry.
Are these issues with just these applications or is it something to do with the ROM or kernel? I've ran AOKP on my Vibrant and Nexus S and I've never run into such issues before.
Maybe its because ICS diesbt support it well ! Fir example look at the Live Wallpaper, all oft them are laggy

Bullsh**, franco.Kernels are extremely good, they can be used to overcloc devices, making even faster. Oh, nearly forogt: There are maybe 10 devices out on the market, using Android, where the lve Wallpapers lag, and it's definitly not this one

Go into your dev. settings, and look if "Force GPU rendering" is checked.
If yes, uncheck it, this causes videos/games to lag and get blurry, because the GPU on the board has a stock speed of 344 MHz, I think (Please correct me if I'm wrong). Just uncheck that, only check that, if you are developing apps, and want them to run with that option checked
Hope I could help!

Actually the gnex has a problem with live wallpaper lag.
Its a known problem. The only one that doesn't lag is phase beam.

I can only say, what I have seen, in my time and experience, of the GNex/Android phones. I've tried every wallpaper on the GNex, non of them have lagged... (Every ROM tested)[Literally, I've tested every ROM there is, for the Galaxy Nexus]

Hmm... I guess you could try flashing a kernel, with which you could overclock your GPU a bit. It could also be the ROM you are running, I'm not that sure
If you want, I could look a bit closer...

[Q] Ringtone stutter on CM10 SE

Hi all, i've searched the HOX forums as much as i can and haven't seen this listed.
I've got a HOX running seadersn's CM10 SE v2 rom and i'm loving it. But when i receive a call and the phone is asleep the ringtone stutters about 2-3 times before playing normally. The ringtone is a custom mp3 in "/sdcard/Ringtones".
Has anyone seen this before or know of a way to fix it?
I would post this in the CM10 SE thread if it could, but this is only my second post.
Many thanks,
Festy.
Assuming you are using seadersn's version and don't have any screen on or off profiles set in system tuner etc, you can increase the minimum cpu freq to 102 under settings, performance. This is a workaround that might work. Do you have the same behavior with other built-in ringtones as well?
---------- Post added at 07:03 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:01 AM ----------
Tbh, I have the same rom and no such experience. Do you have any custom mods installed?
Hey eyosen, thanks for the ideas. Min CPU is already at 102, but just watching the current frequency in there it goes to 51. To be honest i haven't actually tried any inbuilt ringtones, guess I'll try that tomorrow.
I've had a this problem on seadersn's ROM at 1.1 and 2 with a factory reset in the middle. Very strange as everything else seems to work perfectly.

Oh and sorry, no mods. Stock CM10 SE + gapps.

Do you use on demand governor? You may give interactive a try.
---------- Post added at 10:15 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:13 PM ----------
I know the built in bricked kernel is tailored for ondemand but hey if interactive works, and use it
---------- Post added at 10:17 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:15 PM ----------
Another thing that comes to mind is sdcard read ahead value. Try setting it to 2048 if different
I use whatever the default is, which appears to be OnDemand. Will interactive cause any other issues? Where would i find the read ahead value?
I'm new to Android but I've seen deep sleep mentioned on the forums a few times. I assume that's when its been asleep for a while and it goes into a kind of power saving? I only ask because the ringtone only really stutters if the phone has been sitting there asleep for a while.
NWM the sdcard speed. Interactive wont cause any issues. It is one of the standard governors included in every kernel. CM10 stock kernel actually only included interactive for a long time. I don't know what the latest situation is though.
Also lets try this before changing the governor.
Put your mp3 file to
/system/media/audio/ringtones
directory and changer permissions to 644 (rw-r--r--) using any root capable file manager including cm10's. Select that ringtone from settings-sounds-ringtone. Then let the phone deepsleep and see if the issue persists.
---------- Post added at 08:38 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:33 AM ----------
For built-in CM10 File Manager, you have to go to its settings, there under advanced, change access mode to allow root access.
Cheers mate. Have done so with ES File Manager. Will see how we go. Thanks for all your help.

I confirm, wi-fi isn't working. Also, no synapse (and no support of it if installed from google store), no new governors, no zram in standard performance setting. And with this kernel there's only 721 MB of RAM instead of 722 MB RAM in stock! Where's my precious 1 MB of RAM? Is it gone forever? No way! I'll restore you from recovery, my dear, come to papa!
But it's booting and seems stable. A good work anyway, thanks bubor!
updated new one:
38ac4f4657e7ce60b34a4dada67235f6 gk_1.2-i927.zip
I dont know what with wifi, try to disable wifi from rom before updating.
My i927 has many issue, but wifi stable with this kernel
Factory reset, install cm-11-20140315-UNOFFICIAL-i927.zip, gk-1.2, and wifi work.
What rom do you use?

Ok, wi-fi works, camera works, OC to 1.2 Ghz works, I see new governors (testing Intellidemand at the moment, people say it should be less battery consuming than interactive), the only thing else I wish from kernel is a bit more RAM (819 MB in LiteKernel was great, but it caused camera to bug and wake lag, maybe there is a compromise?). Thanks to bubor once again!
Fast Charge support
Any chance you can add a patch to the kernel? This would add Fast Charge support.
This patch is for another device but it looks clean enough that it can be applied to ours without much work.
https://github.com/bruce2728/android_kernel_htc_pyramid/pull/1.patch
There was fast charge on LiteKernel, but it was removed for some reason. Maybe it was unstable.
Btw, I just restored an old backup of CM 10.1.3 (it's 4.2.2 ROM), flashed LiteKernel and... Asphalt 8 is working! Hey, I tried everything for couple of days to make it run on different ROMs, with different caches and apks, and the only thing that game needs is a bit more RAM? What a crap...
Is there also a chance of increasing RAM on grakernel? Sorry for my humble asking, I'm just a fan of Asphalt series, from the first game back on Symbian... I know you're doing dev work in leisure time and I'm Ukrainian with 130$ monthly salary, so can't even donate, but I very appreciate all your work here.

better use zram. Litekernel simply decreases reserved ram. Its very easy to implement to this kernel, but I think there is reason to reserve 280M memory.
Put ramhack version here: http://dualhoki.vim.hu/bubor/dev/grakernel/gk_1.2-i927-ramhack.zip

But not for me. The only way I managed to launch Asphalt 8 is that 4.2.2 android with LiteKernel. When I flashed back "stock" kernel from kick buttowski, Asphalt said me: no more! I even tried to manually close every service and program and turned on zRAM yesterday. Still crashes on launch and even doesn't show me an error message.

Interactive governor works as it should, smooth and stable, there was no new issues, the kernel is solid when used from the box. The only thing is the need to change CPU max clock from 1320 (default) to 1000 Mhz (this should be default I think).
But I caught wi-fi bug again - I turned it off, used my phone for a some time, and after that it doesn't turn on until reboot. Still I can't find what causes this problem. May be it's somehow related to deep sleep, because I never encountered this when the phone is on charge (the phone never goes to deep sleep on charge).
And thank you bubor and grtsarav for your help! I managed to launch that Asphalt 8! Maybe I'm just unlucky, but I downloaded apk again (not the latest 13081 version, but previous 13051), downloaded cache for third time and it launched even without ramhack. It seems that latest version of Asphalt 8 on google store is simply broken on our device.

[TUT]How to boost your battery life a great deal

3 days ago I flashed Android Revolution HD v33.1, the battery consumption of Android 4.2.2 really shocked me! What do you think if you turn on WiFi, watch the websites for just 15 minutes and it costs you nearly 20% battery?
Here I find some methods to fix the problem and boost battery life time a great deal!
What you need are
1. root your htc one x, and
2. an app called: root explorer
If you just use your htc one x for website watching, calling, messaging, and not for gaming, then my method will fit you well.
Now we start!
1. Most importantly, restrict the number of cores of your Nvidia Tegra 3 used.
Use your root explorer go to the folder: sys/kernel/debug/tegra_hotplug/, mount as r/w, find and long press the file: max_cpus, choose: Open in Text Editor.
There you can set the core number used by you CPU at most. Default value is 4, here you can set it to 1 or 2. The less, the longer battery life. I set it to 1 and experience no lags in device performance. Min_cpus is 0 by default mean it uses only the assistant 500MHz CPU core and no main 1.5GHz cores when sleeping.
2. Turn on power saver in settings/Power/. It will conserve CPU usage, reduce screen brightness, turn off vibration feedback, and put your device to sleep when screen is off.
3. Go to Settings/Developer options/Advanced/, turn off animation. and
4. set background process limit to at most 2 processes (or 1, 3, on your demand. The less, the longer battery life). Setting it to 2 guarantees that you can switch between 2 apps your use simultaneously, and have a chance for the app you switch to the background not be killed by background process started by android OS.
After the above all being done, you can enjoy your happy times with a very long battery life!
The attached picture shows the battery history. You can see that nearly 90 minutes websites watching with Wi-Fi on only cost you 20% battery. Is that amazing?
Attention: You should set CPU cores and background process limit again after reboot.
limit the cpu to only use 2 cores won't help that much and also can even take more battery juice then with 4 cores...but it's up to you if you want to use that...

Like what issues? Hey! Don't be offended No question is too silly to be a question

lag spikes while charging

Happens with cm, stock or any other rom. Mostly multitasking, playing games and typing, delays actions with low fps for a 1-5s, but no lag while watching video or playing music.
Can it be battery related problem?
LG G3 D855 32gb 3gb ram

Hello,
thanks for your reply, but no, not doing any OC with my phone, everything is rom default or stock. Ages it might be overheating from the battery, since phone is getting quite hot while charging
