I'm running The People's ROM and I love it but I;m not getting very good battery life. I've tried undervolting, underclocking, I even went back to the stock kernel. Nothing has worked. I saw Kenny's post to change folder qosmgr to qosmgr.bac but it was already done. Can anyone help? I love this ROM but if I can't get better battery life I will change to something else.
Download better battery stats and post screenshots of your kernel wakelocks, partial wakelocks and alarms so we can better assess your battery drain

I've installed better battery stats. Should I charge to a full charge and let it run down some and then get the screenshots?
Questions go in Q&A
Thread moved
Have you turned data off or put into Airplane mode to determine if you have a signal/sync issue?
Is MEDIA high in your battery stats?
Everything already mentioned it could be many things. First is a screen shot of your battery stats on the device and a screen shot of on screen time.
1. Are you syncing anything?
2. Are you mostly on wifi? 3g?or LTE?
3. Do you use Facebook app?
4. What kernel? Any tweaks?
5. What governor?
6. What scheduler?
Let's start with this and we will get you going in the right direction.

Data is turned on and when I put it in airplane mode I don't seem to have problems there. MEDIA is not high on the battery stats, it's always ANDROID OS. I can fully charge at night and unplug the charger and not touch it until morning (about 8 hours) and the battery will be at about 92%.

I have auto sync on, I am mostly on wifi, I don't use Facebook, at first I had Ktoonsez kernel undervolted and now I'm using stock kernel, I never changed the governor or scheduler so it was on whatever it was installed with

That's actually not horrible, but could be better, sounds like you have apps/syncs waking your device regularly, get a screenshot of better battery stats wakelocks do we can help you figure it out.. you don't have to charge fully, just plug it in once and unplug it so it starts recording your stats

After reading your reply I have turned auto sync and data off, maybe that's all it is, hopefully. I really want to keep this ROM, I like it way more than any I have found

Will do. Thanks everyone for being so helpful and responding so fast. I'm a noob and just figured everything out by myself so far using the internet. I rooted a couple of months ago and ran stock rooted for about a month and then started checking out custom ROMS. I haven't had many problems although I did get in a bootloop at one time and fixed it without problem. I figured fixing my battery draining issue would be much easier this way and I was right thanks to people like you guys that ROCK!

Ok, I've charged my phone to a full charge over an hour ago and I've been using it a bit here and there and it seems I can already tell a difference. I left data on but turned sync off. I'm really thinking the auto sync was my problem since I wasn't leaving Wi-Fi and it was still draining to fast. I was losing about 8% over night with no use at all so I will know better in the morning. Regardless I will post some screenshots of my results sometime tomorrow.

Hello everyone.
So my problem started few days ago. I flashed slim ice v3.9 and done upgrade to v4.0 day after. After that my battery just gone bonkers. First it do not display correctly inside settings>battery. It shows 1m but once you click on the graph it states 55m for example. It drains like crazy and most of the time shows charging.
I thought maybe something is wrong with the from so I flashed liquid and than come back to good old apex.
However the problem stayed through all of the rooms and settings. I have done countless reflashes and wipes but no joy. In all of the cases I have used Franco's kernel as I never had any issues and it was always good.
Any ides? Even now writing this I have charging icon on my battery but I am not charging it :|.

Hi, I personally didn't have those problems, but my friend had some similar. Try these tips, they are unrelated to each other, just random ideas:
Wipe battery stats in recovery
Try cleaning battery contacts
Clean USB with soft tooth brush
Check what exactly is eating your battery - it could just be some buggy app
Hi thx for the ideas. First three didn't work so far. I will give them another go later today. What app would you recommend to search for the rouge one? Never had such an issue so no clue which is best.

I use just the stock battery stats. But there may be better options.
Thx guys for the info.
Ill try BBStats later on.
So far i am not having big drain (lately about <1% ~ hour)
It is just that the charging icon is presistant. I have tried wiping and such and is still there. NOt really life threatning but just confusing/annoying.
Any ideas here? And small issue of the stock battery display/stat displaying completly wrong informations.
Regards.
hi again
Scrap the battery is ok now. Last night it draind 8-10% and hour 76% around 10pm and 14% 6:30 am this morning.
Than between 6:30 and 7:30 it drained all 14% while saying charging all the way along.
Shall i revert back to stock and re root?
Regards.

Just replace your USB charging board, and the phone will behave again.

This is a very well known and persistent Samsung bug that is the same across the board no matter what rom you're running

You can wipe the battery stats using the script in the updater after a couple full charges you woes should be gone. It comes in handy if you flash a lot. Check the kuban updater scripts, download scripts then choose the battery one.

Ok, I will try to explain this best I can. While going through the framework and system on TW ICS I've noticed that there is a set of battery percentages. The cpu will monitor on a 1% by %. But the xmls and images correlate together with the system ui in a specific set unless otherwise altered. The battery percentages seem to be set as follows: 100,93,85,79,63,58,35,20,15,10,5,0. It may not be those exactly, but you get the drift. When flashing you can plug up and although it may not show its charging, it does. If you don't charge it can be hard on the system battery depending on what you are flashing or restoring. Because the system ui is setup with these "presests" it can "jump from one percent to the next. I've also noticed while testing that if I go from a alpha bare bones rom to my stable back up that the battery may jump up. I tend to agree that it is a bug in the coding on ICS, and wouldn't worry too much about it.

Those are just the levels where the battery icon in the status bar change. After a ROM flash it is not uncommon to have the battery report inaccurately for the first couple drain/charge cycles. Usual fix is to fully charge, reboot phone, plug in until fully charged a 2nd time (will take a few more minutes). Looking at XML's and image files is not the same as looking at the source code...
Edit: I'm not trying to bash anyone here, I just want to make sure misinformation doesn't get started and then pretty soon everyone is repeating this stuff. Just like what happened with the whole "battery stats" incident.

Entropy512 has posted often on this subject. Here's one I found via Google ...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22917725&postcount=3
Calibration does nothing on our device - the fuel gauge is designed so that it will always converge towards truth instead of diverging. Also, the "wipe battery stats" method of "calibration" has been proven to do NOTHING on ANY device whatsoever - https://plus.google.com/105051985738...ts/FV3LVtdVxPT - The "charge battery to full" and "discharge/recharge" battery are valid tactics on some devices, but NOT any Galaxy S or S II device (maybe the ****rocket and T989, but not the I9100 or I777.) - There's a slight chance this may change with ICS on the I9100/I777 but not likely.
The advantage of this is that it never needs funky calibration cycles other than "just wait"
The disadvantage is that the gauge will get thrown off in a few limited corner cases - and the "two" issues described are one widely documented one. The gauge gets confused and falseley reports low by heavily battery load immediately following a reset, and takes a few hours to converge back to normality (during which the estimate creeps upward, because it was lower than reality initially).

In a nutshell, what you are observing is the way the maxim fuel gauge IC in the SGSII line of devices "calibrates" the battery. Resets (reboots) can throw the gauge off.

Agreed. I was merely starting this is the first thing the user sees. I also agree it is inaccurate. I'm not saying that this is "why", just that thus us what I've noticed and that like you said after a few charging cycles it should correct itself so its (not something to worry about). I also encourage any user that is curious to read what entropy has on the subject.
My phone has done this one time where after jumping downwards by a significant amount it actually crept back UP. I joked to my wife that my latest flash added the ability to have the phone charge itself when the battery is low.
Hi all,
So my phone recently started giving me some battery issues that I just cannot for the life of me get resolved. I noticed that under better battery stats, my phone was avoiding deep sleep. Looking at the kernel wake locks shows Wlan_wake with nearly non stop wakes. I've done just about everything. I've wiped totally to stock Blu Kuban, tried different radios, kernels etc. I get these even on a fresh wipe with no apps installed and no sync on. It doesn't seem to be related to any application in particular. If I turn off wifi and just use 3g,the phone goes into deep sleep immediately and stays. The Wlan_wake stops and the wake counter doesn't keep ramping up. The phone once again gets great battery life while sitting idle. This occurs on both of the wifi I use predominantly, home and work. I'm really at my wits end since when I go to bed, my phones battery gets knocked down a good 20-30% in the 7 hours I go to bed. Attached is just a small sampling of what it's doing.
Any thoughts or suggestions?

Stop leaving your WiFi on. Either that or install one of the hundreds of battery scripts available that will shut off WiFi when the phone sleeps.

While I can appreciate people who want to hamstring their phones to save battery life, turning off WiFi is not an option for most people who actually use their phones for grown up things.
Sprint data is horribly unreliable for me... Without WiFi on, I would never be notified of important emails from work, done of which are time sensitive.
It's too bad that ICS has such bad battery life when compared to a similarly configured GB device.

Is there some specific reason you can't charge your phone while you sleep? It seems like that's the most obvious and easiest solution to your complaint...
I'll take a look at that wifi idle time thread, thanks man.
To the rest, when I suddenly have a glaring issue with my phone, I usually don't include "pretend the problem doesn't exist" as a troubleshooting method. If that's what has to be done, so be it. Charging the phone while sleeping is fine, depending on my schedule/battery level, but that doesn't answer the question of why the battery is absolutely horrific when the phone is doing absolutely nothing. It's not syncing, it's not pulling down data from apps etc. I guess I'm just having trouble coming to terms with the fact that Gingerbread idles, with sync on, about 3-5 percent in an 8 hour period (on blazer) while my ics experiences have been literally 10 times worse. It's hard to just say "oh, ICS battery life just isn't as good", when the disparity is that large.
I want to make sure I'm an exception, not the rule as far as idle drain is concerned.

Since I'm included in the "rest" ill say that I was not suggesting that you ignore it, I was simply suggesting that by charging while you sleep you would remedy the issue for the time being, as there is absolutely no logical reason your phone can't be charging while you sleep... including battery level... im assuming from your post you wait till the battery is low to charge, that is unecessary as Li-Ion batteries do not have a memory, so incremental charging will not damage them, in fact ive read that its actually better for them than full power cycles.... if you want more possible solutions perhaps you should start by following revampers link and using the damn search bar, as there are 10's of ics battery threads, and I'm pretty sure phaker posted a solution to a very similar issue in one of them, as opposed to starting yet another thread about an issue that's been beat to death and replying condesendingly to those who offer you suggestions not entirely to you're liking....also use the thanks button at least for revampers post as you seem to have found at least that useful, its considered common courtesy around here...

The first response was snide to both myself and the other person who replied about slashing off your phones arm when it isn't necessary. This may help as well, worth a read at least... the script that just modifies wifi_supp_scan or something to that effect.... should be what you're after as I recall that was preventing deep sleep, read through the thread to confirm, I read it about a week ago and dont recall 100%

So here's my story...
I hated the new ICS official update that sprint rolled out because of my diminishing battery life. So i decided to finally root the phone and install some roms. Everything went well for the past week but now my phone screen flickers and then my phone shuts off when i still have around 80% battery life left. I try to turn it back on and it loads up the boot screen but sometimes it fully loads the phone and sometimes it doesn't. When it does load ... my battery life is chopped to like 20% or maybe 5%. I calibrated my battery after the flash like someone told me to do but it still didn't work. I thought it was the rom i was using but I flashed 3 different roms and I still have the same problem.
I'm wondering if it's something wrong with my battery or my power on my phone? When the phone is charging it doesn't flicker and shut down on me.
Did anybody else have this problem? Is this considered a SOD? Wondering if I should get a new battery and see if it works. Also... is your battery flat? Mine seems to be a curved a bit in the middle back and front and i don't remember it being like that.
THANKS FOR THE HELP PEOPLE!!!! I really need it
Spin the battery on a flat surface and if it continues to spin, its bad. From your description of the back if battery, it sounds bad. Take it to a sprint store and get a replacement.

This is just the effects of ICS. Go to to your sprint store , they should replace it free. Consider a custom Rom to remedy the issue.

This is just the effects of ICS. Go to to your sprint store , they should replace it free. Consider a custom Rom to remedy the issue.

It happened on every rom i flashed.. but this is what i'm on now.
Rom version Blazer FF18
kernel version 3.0.15-sph-d710.ff18-cl663858
Baseband version FH13
I am trying to underclock the phone now and see if it solves any problems till I get a new battery. Realized that while the phone is plugged in... it doesn't flicker and shut down on me. So maybe if i lower the power consumption, it'll work. But it's just an idea I came up with.
THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!!

Your experiencing a condition that's clearly battery related, while phone is plugged in it clearly shows that the problem is the battery. Making changes and undervolting may just complicate things, I would wait for a new battery before going any further.
You need a proven rom to start with, ask around and see what works for others and give yourself a fresh start. I would recommend going back to stock gingerbread el29,and trying it out for a week or so, then go from there.

Will do. Just ordered a battery. Hopefully it is a battery issue because I am not due for an upgrade yet. Thanks a lot for your advice!
It's the battery, I have the same issues right now and if I use a different battery they instantly disappear.
And you're right about lowering the power consumption, for me it only happened with 4G enabled together with the capacitive LEDs. Disabling one or the other made it go away.

Hello all, I am looking for a touchwiz rom that has full capability and has great battery life. I have tried synergy, but it doesn't play nice with the AT&T S3 for me. What are some other ones that you guys recommend? Thanks.
No one can determine the best ROM for you as we all have different needs for our phones. Additionally, each phone may react to every ROM differently. My advice would be to try out as many as you can.
This link can be a good place to start researching.

Ya you're right. But I'm just asking what people prefer. I'm looking for one that runs like stock, maybe some mods here and there, with performance increases/better battery life.

The link I provided should be a good point of reference for gauging people's thoughts on ROMs. Reading and trying them yourself is honestly the only way to know.
try roms is all you can do. personally I like wicked v8. I give roms a one strike and youre out rule. if one thing doesnt work good enough for my needs its gone. I wanted to like synergy but it gave me a few issues. maybe I will wait a month or two and see what else comes. ive had great success with wicked and devils reject roms. I have friends using intergalactic and it also seems good for them. my battery life is better than ever on wicked but of course it all comes down to usage and tuning. most important to choose a rom that works.
I like CSROM. The battery life is great and you have good aroma install options for things like aosp messaging and email. It has good mods like tethering, toggles, etc. Also very good support from the Dev and others in the development thread.
I was looking for same thing dude actually I'm still looking.I have been try Synergy and CSROM but they are not what exactly I want . Synergy has really cool staff but they got a lot of issues with SGH-i747 simultaneously. I was trying to install Synergy rom it took my 3-4 hours beacuse I couldn't fix every problem with Snynergy after than I found a fixing uptade file and a kernel it started work okey but it still had bugs. I just decided to try another.
Now I'm using CSROM they don't have a lot of cool thing like synergy . They have some diffrent touchwizz from Sony and Motorola. They have multiwinow but my battery is working sucks . I have 2 battary but I have to get charge 2 times in a day it's mean 4 charge for a single battery.I'm not sure about all this things I'm just saying my experiance. Maybe I could do something wrong but they are my opinion try anotherone except those ::highfive:
Make a nandroid of stock and your IMEI, then flash and try them all !
Devils reject and csrom are my favorites as far as twiz roms

Let me know about what should set up. Thanks

Every phone is different. Every user is different. While a rom may work great on one person's phone it may be the opposite for yours...even with the exact same specs and hardware. The opposite can be true for other roms. And the way you use the phone differs as well. There is no "....is the best rom.". If you are not happy with the current ROM, then try another.
I'll give you three of the best IMHO that I've used extensively.
#1 Xtremperia by Jovy23
#2 Darthstalker X1 by Jovy23
#3 Deadly Venom 3.0 by Venom
All three are bug free and extremely stable with excellent battery life. I use the Ziggy kernel with all three.
At this point I'm running Hyperdrive multiview w/ Ziggy and I have Synergy w/Ziggy as my back up.
Yes they both have minor bugs but are easily fixable.
That being said the VERY first thing I would and this comes from an expensive lesson I learned BACK UP YOUR IMEI FIRST!!!! If I've helped please hit the thanks button and happy flashing.

The other reply covered it pretty good as it's different for everyone. I see a lot of people posting about battery life and I would suggest the following. Charge your battery to 100% before you go to bed. Take it off the charger and then just let it sit overnight. When you get up, check the battery stats and see if it goes into deep sleep, meaning it wasn't awake when the screen was off during the night. If you see more than a few times where it was awake, you probably have wakelock issues. If so, use Better Battery Stats to find out what's going on. Sometimes its the media scanner hanging up on a pic or vid that isn't playing nice, sometimes it's something else.
I have my mail synced 24/7 as well as contacts and calendar. I play games for about 10 minutes a clip throughout the day and browse xda and google news and I get about 20 hours with 2-3 hours screen on time.

I am new to Rom flashing. Been experimenting with the AOSP and AOKP Roms but keep coming back to TouchWiz based Roms...Currently I am running Stockorama V2...Has a Aroma installer and tons of options...Still minimalistic in size...I completely wiped the stock Rom off my phone and now running Stockorama I have 10GB free space in my internal memory VS the 5GB I had with the factory Rom...Best part is you get to pick and choose the features you want as you install...One important feature to me is SmartStay and happy to say it's installed in this Rom...Here is the link give it a whirl and let them know what you think...

Just report the thread and a mod will close it. Plus this thread was over a month old. Who ever decided to have their input just bumped it to the top of Q&A and the whole progress starts again.
Next time a thread like this pops up just report it.

I'm just going to say..I'm not the one that bumped it..the only reason I saw it was because someone right before me replied to it. But I Dont have a problem with these threads...I just Dont like how mods can go overboard on it sometimes..but I'm done here...I Dont want any trouble.. Bye!
