So here's my story...
I hated the new ICS official update that sprint rolled out because of my diminishing battery life. So i decided to finally root the phone and install some roms. Everything went well for the past week but now my phone screen flickers and then my phone shuts off when i still have around 80% battery life left. I try to turn it back on and it loads up the boot screen but sometimes it fully loads the phone and sometimes it doesn't. When it does load ... my battery life is chopped to like 20% or maybe 5%. I calibrated my battery after the flash like someone told me to do but it still didn't work. I thought it was the rom i was using but I flashed 3 different roms and I still have the same problem.
I'm wondering if it's something wrong with my battery or my power on my phone? When the phone is charging it doesn't flicker and shut down on me.
Did anybody else have this problem? Is this considered a SOD? Wondering if I should get a new battery and see if it works. Also... is your battery flat? Mine seems to be a curved a bit in the middle back and front and i don't remember it being like that.
THANKS FOR THE HELP PEOPLE!!!! I really need it
Spin the battery on a flat surface and if it continues to spin, its bad. From your description of the back if battery, it sounds bad. Take it to a sprint store and get a replacement.

This is just the effects of ICS. Go to to your sprint store , they should replace it free. Consider a custom Rom to remedy the issue.

It happened on every rom i flashed.. but this is what i'm on now.
Rom version Blazer FF18
kernel version 3.0.15-sph-d710.ff18-cl663858
Baseband version FH13
I am trying to underclock the phone now and see if it solves any problems till I get a new battery. Realized that while the phone is plugged in... it doesn't flicker and shut down on me. So maybe if i lower the power consumption, it'll work. But it's just an idea I came up with.

Your experiencing a condition that's clearly battery related, while phone is plugged in it clearly shows that the problem is the battery. Making changes and undervolting may just complicate things, I would wait for a new battery before going any further.
You need a proven rom to start with, ask around and see what works for others and give yourself a fresh start. I would recommend going back to stock gingerbread el29,and trying it out for a week or so, then go from there.

Will do. Just ordered a battery. Hopefully it is a battery issue because I am not due for an upgrade yet. Thanks a lot for your advice!
It's the battery, I have the same issues right now and if I use a different battery they instantly disappear.
And you're right about lowering the power consumption, for me it only happened with 4G enabled together with the capacitive LEDs. Disabling one or the other made it go away.

Can somebody tell me what is going on with my phone??? Every so often I completely lose service and then my phone turns off. When I turn the phone back on the battery is completely drained. It just happened...before turning off the battery was at 97%, but when I turned it back on the battery was down to 5%. I've had my phone for over a year, but this just started happening in the past month.
I was running Unnamed 2.0 (GB) with EL29 modem and kernel up until last week. I tried Blazer v4.01 (GB). I just switched to the newest ICS version of Blazer with FG31 modem and rom. This has happened on each of these setups. Like I said, I was running the UnNamed - EL29 setup for a while without any problems. I've read about the loss of service bug with our phones, but I thought that was resolved a while ago.
Is there any zip file that can be flashed to resolve this? Any help and advice is greatly appreciated.

How long have you had the rom?0
It started happening when I was on UnNamed 2.01...i ran that for close to a year without any problems. I just tried Blazer GB and ICS about a month ago.
I installed the Los file from another thread but that hasn't helped.
Could it be a virus on the phone?
Should I start with a completely new install of the ROM, kernel, modem and apps...rather than restoring previous backed up versions?
Start fresh, stock rooted rom and run for a few days.
Possibly bad battery or charger also, it happens.
How much over a year have you had it?
Wonder why...

I have started having the same issue with my e4gt. I have the stock rom FI29 rooted. The phone used to work just fine and one day after applying the FI27 it just started having this issue. The phones looses the signal and shuts down when I am doing anything on the phone for longer than 1-5 min.
Did the original author resolve this? If so, could you pelase share what helped?

Yup, first it LOS, then flicker followed by turning off with no power down animation, reboot and battery is at or below 5%, shuts off again, won't reboot this is the biggest clue that the battery has pooped the bed. The battery can even still test as good, receiving and returning proper voltage but the battery is fubar if its bulging. Sprint corporate repair centers will replace free if they have one in stock, otherwise order an anker on amazon/eBay and then contact Samsung support they will email you a shipping label, you send them the battery and they will send you a new OEM battery and you end up with 2 for the price of the anker. This is the route I had to go took 10days to get my new one from Samsung from the day I mailed it til I received the new one
Edit: according to the guy I spoke to at Samsung they warranty the batteries for 18months instead of the 12 they warranty the device itself. Anker also warranties their batteries for 18months as well

I have the exact same issue.. my battery will be fully charged, then ill do something on the phone, it flickers, then restarts, and battery is completely dead..
I went to sprint, had them check my battery and they said the battery is fine...
Today my phone did this again, then when it restarted, all the setting I had on my messenger app, had all been reset, and so I had to do those all over again. And all the apps, that I had in folders I made, were now all out of the folders and I had to put them all back again. So frustrating.
As stated before though, the battery may test as good but still be bad. Happens with cars too and very often actually. I'd just go back to the store and not back down until you get a new battery. This is a common issue and they know it.

The battery may test as functional but as soon as you can prove it's bulging - hence the spin test - they can't disagree that the battery is failing and requires replacement.

I am having a similar issue. After flashing to Phantom Blazer ICS ROM, I inadvertently ran ROM Manager and tried to flash CWM 5.0.2.7 that way. Since then I've wiped numerous times and flashed several other ROMs, even performing a nandroid restore to GB Blazer ROM, but to no avail. The phone screen and buttons still flash a bit as a precursor to my phone shutting down, and upon reboot my battery drains down to 2% and goes to shut off again. This happens repeatedly unless I leave my phone on a charger. This has lead me to believe that it may be a battery problem, but I cannot confirm until I receive my new battery in a few days. Hope someone can shed some light on this.
Anything odd with the wi-fi?
Those that seem to be having these issues seem to also have wi-fi issues.
For example, my phone freezes at work due to the wi-fi config. If I drop it, no problems whatsoever.

Sleep of Death or Hardware?
I too am having this problem. Long story short a few days ago I flashed CM10 Alpha4 and noticed out of no where my phone would just turn off. No boot off ani, nothing. It drains my battery to 1%. I did several wipes, formatting, clearing, stock GB, many different ICS roms with TONS of different kernels (i thought it was kernel related). Nothing helps. My phone does this while charging too. It also does it when the screen is on and I can predict when it's going to shut off because the backlight starts pulsing, then BAM RIGHT IN KISSER! It. Sucks.
Currently on FH13 Wicked Sensations with Kuban kernel .0.5, I guess it's betetr. But, idk.
I hope there's a fix, but I'm thinking it's a hardware dealy.
I guess..least with the cheap ones you mess them up putting them on you just wasted that money lol..

I had SOD for 3 days and just before my screen started fading in and out, I locked my phone. When I unlocked it, it saw that Maps.Process.Whatever stopped responding. I thought that was weird bc I haven't opened Google Maps yet with this new ROM flash. So, I went into Settings > Location Services > and UNCHECKED location and google search. Since then, no SOD. I have no idea if this works for everyone. Maybe you can try that...idk

I will give this a try this tonight and run it through tomorrow, see if it helps with my issue (which sounds a whole lot like your issue). Will report back tomorrow night, thanks for the tip!
i was so fed up i use the el29 stock tar file went back to it and now i received a official 4.04 update imma afraid to update lol...battery suck..now batter life on this el29 in fine for now..
Tried turning off all location, but SoD still happening very erratically. Still have light pulsing and loss of signal right before shut down. Perhaps it is hardware, but could it really be the battery? Will find out soon when battery arrives in a day or two.
I have been monitoring this for a while now and in several different mods etc. It seems when I leave my phone plugged in fully charged with the screen on it will at a random times just think it has 0% battery even when plugged in it will then shut off. Battery temp is a little high at around 40c. Can't find any running app or process that is throwing up any red flags either. Any ideas? As you can see in the images it just almost instantly drops from 100% to 0% and then shuts down. It doesn't reboot...just shuts off until i power it back on.

Battery stats RESET at every reboot. Is it just me or is this a JB/Samsung related bug? To me this is NOT normal and it definitely didn't happen in ICS or GB
------------------------------------------------------------------------
:good: Updated Tue, Nov.20.2012
As strange as it may sound, after about 3-4 cycles, the funny issue reported above is gone. Now my SGH-I317M behaves like it's supposed to and so, the battery stats are being kept after reboot. Like all the other Samsung phones I have/had, the battery stats are being reset after the phone has been kept plugged in for a while - which is normal. I took some time to report this just to make sure that it's consistent.
Yeah, I find that annoying too. I wish it kept it's settings. I was hoping to get an accurate look at my daily usage today, but an early reboot is going to destroy that.

Still...I wonder, is this a bug or is it Samsung's/Google's new vision about how battery stats are supposed to be working? If it's a bug they'll probably fix it but if the bug is in someone's head, then we're kind of screwed - from this point onward (JB, KLP, etc)

Not quite sure what you mean by "stock phone" but I have the SG2 (SGH-I727R) with ICS 4.0.4, rooted and SG3 (SGH-I747M) with ICS 4.0.4, rooted and DEFINITELY none of them do that. The Note II (SGH-I317M) is certainly my first Android phone to do that - after all, think about it! Is your battery starting a new cycle after every reboot? Plus, the phone might not even get close to a plug. Why reset the stats?

I agree. Resetting is stupid and it would always happen towards the end of the day...before I could see my battery stats lol

I used "Device Analyzer" in the past to see a weeks worth of battery stats in one view. But it only gives you charge levels, not app usage.
My One X resets if I charge it above ~70%. Every android ROM and phone I have had in the past only reset at a full charge. And I haven't seen one yet that resets at a reboot. Sounds like a bug. Fingers crossed for fixing when they push the side by side app view update.
To make sure, we are talking about this data, right?

How come this would be caused by a recovery issue? My phone died just today because I forgot my charging cable at home. I charged it up just fine. If the recovery was the issue I wouldn't have been able to charge my phone up after it died. He overheated his phone which seems to be the link to every other case of this happening.
Recovery "might" be an issue, as if recovery cannot respond to a "power on" it will not turn on. Most recoveries will respond to a "adb reboot" command. That may fix his issue... If his PC recognizes the device. I know certain TWRP had issues with the DNA and it could have bled to the m7

Depends if they are using a commonly used recovery, or if the MD5 matched. I never let my battery go below 30% as most users should try their hardest to not also, fully draining li batteries drastically reduces their life and capacity.
Edit: it is also good to see everyone's setup who has this issue so we can find the common thing every time it happens.

Yea I generally try to not get way to low. It's a scary thought though that if you happen to forget to charge your phone it might not charge back up. That's why I was interested in what rom and kernel he was using. Plus it seemed to be that most of the people who couldn't recharge had an overheating issue before hand which is more or less why I don't believe it is a recovery issue.
Ok, for some reason it's working again. As I said before, it was just completely dead (wouldn't power on, no LED light when plugged into two different chargers, two different outlets) then I tried again about an hour after all the problems started and it powered on again.
When it came on, it had a 70% charge, so I put it back on the charger and charged it back up to 100%. However, after about two minutes being unplugged, it dropped down to 95%. It's never done anything like that before and this is the first time I've had any kind of problems with it in the year I've had the phone.
Could this have been some sort of temporary battery issue? I'm so confused. Are there and diagnostic tools I can use to try to figure out what happened?
I'm using NuSenseONE-Max_RC6_111313 (4.3 based), not sure what kernel and TWRP recovery. Also, I usually drain the battery down to 15% before I charge it.
Also, this happened after I updated about 20 apps.

That almost sounds like your battery might be going out but maybe you should update your rom and recovery just out of precaution. You'll need to update your firmware as well since you're probably still running jb firmware considering the age of that rom.

Wait... I thought a ROM and firmware were the same thing.

Not exactly. Grab the firmware from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=46506592
It's version 5.x.605 something lol
Get the one that has no boot and flash it per the instructions in the op. Then grab an updated recovery. I use version 2.7.1.2 from here . http://mdmower.cmphys.com/twrp-m7vzw/ you're more than welcome to flash whatever you like philz or cwm. Then grab a newer rom. Kit Kat has been way better than jelly bean in my opinion.
On the battery dropping to 95% quickly, this is a known software "feature" in android since froyo or earlier. When the phone is fully charged, power cuts off from the Phone and won't "charge" until it hits 90%. System will still show you 100%. It has been proven by many sources that keeping a "trickle" on a fully charged battery will damage it. That is why it probably dropped quickly. Only way to determine if battery is faulty is have it drop below 89% and see it's drain.

Ok, thanks for the help!
Does the One maybe have an auto-shutdown feature that triggers if it overheats? I was thinking that was a possibility.

How come this would be caused by a recovery issue? My phone died just today because I forgot my charging cable at home. I charged it up just fine. If the recovery was the issue I wouldn't have been able to charge my phone up after it died. He overheated his phone which seems to be the link to every other case of this happening.

Just trying to get the full picture as uzephi said. Just was wondering because there are instances where it can die and if the recovery had a glitch and or missed a charging binary in one build it might not charge...

I understand. I asked because I didn't understand why this would be a recovery issue since you can't always keep your phone from dying and having your phone brick as a result would completely suck. Plus, it would be a lot more frequent (you would think anyway) for this same thing to happen. I wouldn't want to use whatever recovery had this issue either. However, I think he just really needed to update his firmware, rom and recovery. I'm surprised he made it this long without needing to upgrade. It also helps knowing all the info because if it was a rom/kernel issue the dev could take a look into what could potentially cause the overheating because the thermal protection written into the kernel isn't doing its job if it allows the phone to overheat to death.
